Chapter 40: Temptation
'Temptation is a very strong feeling that is often hard to resist and it's resistant forces can range from wanting an object of another to wanting someone who you know is out of your reach. It's not often that temptation can be resisted as the victorious feeling is always more satisfying and as much as Bill wanted to keep his promise to Mabel, the temptation he felt was just too much to bear!'
It was her worst nightmare, one that she had hoped would never come true and Bill had done it. He went back on his promise to her and did what he told her he would never do, but yet he did. She saw the signs he changed and every red flag that went up, but yet, she chose to ignore it and figured they were short time changes that would be no trouble at all. Oh how wrong she was.
The monster stood in front of her and over her brother's lifeless body as the journal laid in tatters next to him. It was all because of that book that her brother was the victim of the relentless demon and his raging temptation to get his hands on it. Her eyes never left his body, but occasionally turned to the demon so to see what was on his mind. Flitters of regret had passed through his vision every now and then, but never stuck around unlike the woman who used to love him, loved the man he was before that moment. The fear that he would one day return to his full self always stuck in the back of her mind, but she chose to ignore it for reasons that she knew Bill and knew that his promise meant something to her, especially after he gave her the promise ring to make things official. However that wasn't the case anymore and that promise meant zilch!
Mabel remembered when the blonde began acting strangely whenever they either went out on dates or she was trying to do something fun with him. She still remembered how badly those moments turned out, which sent shivers down her spine. The most recent incident was still very fresh in her mind, one that she had been trying to forget about since it happened and one that fell completely on Bill's shoulders, but due to the temptation he gave into, his remorse for the situation said otherwise.
Three Days Ago
This date had been planned for months and as happy as Bill was to go on this date with his beloved, his change in mood wasn't a part of the plan. The two decided to go to The Club for lunch before heading out to a movie they both agreed on and then the park to watch the sun set, but when picking her up for the date, Mabel noticed that Bill was rather stiff and didn't respond much to her when she greeted him in their usual way. She brushed it off as him having rushed there to pick her up so they wouldn't be late for their reservations, but when they got to the restaurant, her assumption was all but right.
"I think I'm going to try something new today." Mabel happily voiced as she scrolled through the menu. "The salad looks great, but the salad dressing for the salad is very fattening. Maybe if I just ordered something-"
"You don't have to go through that explanation!" Bill snapped, cutting the brunette off as she lowered her menu to look at him. "Just pick something!"
As taken back as she was with his tone of voice, the woman noticed the look on her date's face. Anger surged through this his eyes and a look of determination mixed with disgust crossed his features. She didn't understand why he was acting like that and asking him would have most likely further set the ex-demon off, but yet, she couldn't get around his sudden change in behavior.
"Bill, what's wrong?" Mabel softly asked as the man turned away from her vision and toward the table, the eyes that began changing from their ocean grey to oblivion black.
"Nothing." Bill quietly replied. "I just have a lot on my mind is all. Sorry about that."
"That's ok and maybe getting something into that stomach of yours will help you think straighter." Mabel happily replied as she turned back to the menu.
She hadn't bothered to ask him what was on his mind and left it at that. The waiter then came to take their orders, in which her cheery tone did nothing but further upset the man which resulted in him snapping at her and she only asked had they had a chance to look at the menus for their orders! Bill then decided that he and Mabel should leave the establishment and find some place less busy to go so to finish their date.
As they trailed away from the restaurant, Mabel found herself being drug away by Bill while he held tightly onto her wrist. By that time, she couldn't help but be concerned about how he acted at the restaurant and was acting at that moment. She was trying to keep up with him, but the way he marched away, it seemed like he was on a mission of some sort. Whether or not it would set the man off, she couldn't go another minute without knowing what was going on with the blonde.
"Bill, I have to know." Mabel cautiously asked while still being drug around by Bill. "What has gotten into you? We had a reservation and you were so rude to that poor woman! What is wrong with you?"
That's what made the lanky human stop in his tracks and look to the woman rather fiercely, a look that she only saw him give to Gideon when he crossed the demon while out with her. The look in the demon's eyes scared her as with his behavior at that time, she didn't know what was on his mind or rather if she was next on his list.
"I said nothing!" Bill growled as he forced the woman closer to him, their faces were mere inches apart. "You heard that woman! Her voice was shrill and I couldn't take listening to it anymore!"
"She just asked about our orders Bill!" Mabel retorted to the angry blonde. "Something has gotten into you and I want to know what!"
The man turned away from her and continued his march as he drug her along first through the forest and then back into the city, a familiar path that the woman was familiar with. They then arrived at his place where he forcefully opened the door and tossed her inside with Mabel having tripped over her feet and fell on the carpet. From where she laid, she heard the man close the door and lock it, which sent a chill up her spine as thoughts raced through her mind about what he could have planned for her. They were supposed to go to a movie and then the park, but it seemed he had other plans.
Before the woman was able to look back at him, she was yanked off of the ground and brought face to face with the blonde as a malicious smile and shadow crossed his face. Fear found a home in the woman's heart as she faced the man she loved.
"You know Mabel, I wanted to surprise you with the ending of our date, but I figured, I'd just show you instead." Bill smirked as he pushed her against the wall in the living room and pinned her hands above her head. "Because actions do speak louder than words."
Tears surfaced in the woman's eyes as only one thought stuck out in her mind as to what the man had planned for her, something that he'd get an enjoyment out of while she suffered mercilessly.
"Bill…please." Mabel stammered in a last attempt to stop him from what he had in mind. "Please don't hurt me."
It was then that the man stopped and stepped away from her, the black oblivion his eyes became were returning to the ocean grey they always were. Something about seeing the woman upset quickly changed him and made him think about what he had in mind for her. But that wasn't what Bill himself had planned, it was the demon who recently reconnected with the blonde had planned for the woman, which also explained his behavior back at the restaurant. His connection back to the demon was one thing he planned to keep from Mabel in hopes of keeping it controlled, which when he thought about it, was not the smartest move due to the demon's relentless pursuit of her, but most of all, his pursuit of the journal. He couldn't control himself or stay dormant whenever the two were close.
"What are you waiting for? Do it!" The demon growled in urgency to the human as he watched the man stare blankly at her.
"I'm not going to do it." Bill mentally replied to his dark side. "I'm not like you and will never be you!"
"Go." Is all the man said to the terrorized woman.
"What?" She asked in confusion as she noticed the man point towards the door.
"I said go! Don't make me repeat it!" Bill raised his voice as he continued to point towards the door. Mabel didn't need to be told twice to get as far away from him as possible as the woman bolted to the door and out of it as fast as she could.
With her gone, Bill slumped to the floor in a clear battle against himself and the demon that reconnected with him. Why had he allowed this part of him to return? Was being human really that bad of a trip? Sure living amongst the common humans was not something he imagined doing, but that one woman he fell for changed all of that for him and he was willing to do everything in his power to make that connection work. However, after what happened that day, he wasn't even sure if Mabel loved him as deeply as before, especially what took place before he released her. It was all thanks to that temptation that he gave into that could have possibly cost him the woman that he deeply loved.
Two days since their disastrous date had passed and Mabel still refused to see the man, no matter how many gestures of forgiveness he sent her. There were just some things that could never be forgiven, especially when someone forces themselves on you! Dipper wasn't all that thrilled that he had to keep answering the door whenever a sentiment was sent by the blonde, consistently asking for his sister's forgiveness. Although he never voiced it, Dipper was more than glad Mabel decided to avoid him as he never cared for the man to begin with and secretly hoped that they broke up for good. However, if she would have told him what happened on their "date" that would have further prompted the younger pines to push for a permanent break up!
It was during those two days that Bill's demon symptoms got worse as his full powers settled back into the host. He hadn't heard from Mabel after he sent sentiment after sentiment to her to apologize for what happened two days ago. He found himself alone in his place without that one soul that sat in there with him for hours on end on most days. The silence deafened him which only further drove the man to succumb to what ultimately waited for him. His demonic side had grown restless and wanted so badly to act on its instinct to go after her, but there was something else the demon wanted even more than the Mabel herself, something else much more valuable.

And that's what brought that day's events out that lead to her brother's limp body lying between the sneering demon and the terrified woman with the tattered journal lying next to the boy. He was a monster again, the monster that he had sworn never to be again, but gave into the temptation of the demon and with becoming a full demon also meant the return of the demon's insanity as well. That same insanity that took her beloved human as well as her brother away. Things were never going to be the same again as Bill was once again a full demon, the same one her brother warned her about, but chose to date anyway.
It was her worst nightmare, one that she had hoped would never come true and Bill had done it. He went back on his promise to her and had done what he told her he would never do, but yet he did. She saw the signs he changed and every red flag that went up, but yet, she chose to ignore it and figured they were short time changes that would be no trouble at all. Oh how wrong she was.
