Sorry, everyone. I didn't mean to skip a week of when I could be writing these requests. I got busy unexpectedly and now with my birthday coming up in a week, I might be busy again so I'm gonna try and get WitD's third chapter out before Sunday, and finish at least 10 or so of these requests by then. I really do have a lot, so please be patient. (There are 245 reviews total for this one-shot collection, so that should give you an idea of the amount of pages I have to scroll through)
From Guest (Guest): "Hey thank you so much for posting my dipper and Mabel's reaction to finding out they were going to Gravity falls prompt! I was wondering if you would do one like that but from stans pov. Thx!"
No problem! I'd love to write this request!
Worth
It had been a slow day at the Shack when they called him. Wendy had left early to take care of Manly Dan, who had a cold and was apparently throwing some sort of stubborn fit, if her conversation on the phone was anything to go by. Soos was up in the attic fixing some loose boards so the shop was empty, save for Stan himself. He tapped his fingers idly on the counter, annoyed with the lack of customers. It had been dull all week long, most likely because kids were still in school and summer would officially begin in two weeks. He was growing bored with the decreasing activity in the tourist trap. The Mystery Shack seemed too big for one man at times, especially whenever he tried to talk aloud to himself.
The phone rang in the kitchen and Stan groaned loudly. He headed over to grab it, running a hand over his face before speaking into it.
"Hello, this is the Mystery Shack. If you're trying to sell me something - "
"Uncle Stan."
All of the air left in his lungs blew out in one deep breath. He stared blankly at the peeling wallpaper, trying to comprehend whose voice he had just heard. It had been so long since they had seen each other, so long since they had last talked... Why was he calling now?
"Look, I know we've had our...differences in the past but my wife and I agreed that Dipper and Mabel need a breath of fresh air. They're both fighting like cats and dogs waiting for summer to come and we didn't want to send them to some overnight camp so... would you mind taking them in for the summer?"
...Well, that was unexpected.
His nephew rushed on, as if afraid of being stopped. "It'll just be for those three months, I promise. All you have to do is watch over them, feed them, and make sure they get along. I - I admit that they're a bit of a handful sometimes, but they're twelve now and hopefully they will be on their best behavior."
"Why me?" Of all the questions that came to the old man's mind, this one bugged him the most.
The silence on the other end wasn't reassuring. A deep sigh reached his ears.
"Because we think that you can handle this. It's a big responsibility - "
"Yeah, I'm not six, knucklehead."
Another sigh.
"Uncle Stan, I'm serious. You haven't had experience with kids like we have - "
"I work with kids everyday!"
"Yeah, in a tourist trap! That doesn't mean you can take care of them."
"Is there a point to this discussion of yours?" Stan snapped, rolling his eyes. He was starting to regret picking up the phone.
His nephew sighed for the third time. "Look, we think you're capable of handling two kids for one summer. Do you think you could watch them and keep them safe?"
"Is there some kind of cash reward for this?"
He heard the man mutter, "Unbelievable..." on the other end of the phone. "If I send you money at the end of the summer for doing this, will you say yes?"
Stan grumbled to himself, peering into the empty shop of the Shack. This place was getting lonely, not that he would ever admit it out loud, especially in the years since his brother's disappearance. Besides, maybe two kids could help liven up the workplace, get more adolescents to come again. Wendy might like having someone close to her age here, and Soos certainly wouldn't mind the company.
He couldn't believe he was actually thinking this over.
"Fine. But it had better be at least forty each when it comes!"
I bet they actually did bribe Stan into taking care of the kids at first. I don't know why he would say yes immediately, because I don't think that he did. It probably took a bit to convince him that this would be worth it.
