Crimson Rising

Chapter 50: Battle Cry, Part 1

Song: Battle Cry

Artist: Imagine Dragons

Stars are only visible in darkness
Fear is ever-changing and evolving
And I, I can poison these eyes
But I, I feel so alive

Nobody can save you now
The king is crowned
It's do or die
Nobody can save me now
The only sound
Is the battle cry
Is the battle cry
Is the battle cry
Nobody can save me now
It's do or die...

Agonized screams echoed through the cell block aboard Ivan Ooze's cruiser, as it sped through hyperspace. The other few unfortunate prisoners were thankful that they were not the object of the Duronian's anger today. Two hulking Generals, each with a woven whip in hand, took turns lashing the prisoner, who hung shirtless from shackles.

"Halfbreed scum...you were not fit to shine Prince Xinshing's boots, much less duel him," one of them spat. Hunter gasped for air and sweat poured down his body. He knew that his plan to let Ivan Ooze actually toss him in the Fire Pits would probably mean beatings and torture along the way, but it didn't prepare him for the pain he was experiencing. It also didn't stop his smart mouth.

"Apparently I was. I made a green scorch mark out of him," Hunter retorted. The Generals growled and lashed him with new fervor.

"I can't wait to watch you suffer, ranger scum," the other growled, as he punched the crimson ranger in the jaw. Hunter coughed and spit blood, expertly aiming it so it landed on the Duronian's boot.

"I'm already suffering, moron. You're lashing me with a freaking whip," Hunter spat back. They laughed.

"This is nothing compared to what you'll experience in the Fire Pits," one hissed. Hunter rolled his eyes.

"Oh yeah, I'm sure I won't survive surrounded by own element," Hunter mumbled sarcastically.

"You should feel privileged though. We only throw those we hate most into the Pits," the other joked.

"You mean you only throw those you're scared of into the Pits," Hunter corrected, earning him a kick in the gut.

"We're not scared of you, brat!" he hissed. Hunter smirked and looked up at them, as his eyes flashed gold and an aura of crimson surrounded him. The Phoenix spirit answered his call and the Generals stepped back in fright.

"You will be," Hunter growled. But purple lightning struck him violently and Ivan tortured him until he finally lost consciousness, hanging limp by his shackles.

"Don't antagonize him, you fools! Or your fates will be the same as Xinshing. And if you muck up my chances of getting him in the Fire Pits, than you'll wish that he killed you, for he will be far more merciful than I," Ooze hissed, as they hurried out of the cell. Ivan Ooze looked around and though he didn't see anything, he called out anyway.

"You can't protect your spawn, Zander. He will pay for all your crimes against me!" Ivan hissed, angry that even as he stood there, the brat's injuries were already healing.

"Not even he can survive what I have in store for him!" Ivan called, almost as if he was trying to convince himself, before quickly walking away.

Aboard the Phoenix zord, which was much like the Astro Megaship, being that it had actual living quarters, Tori sat by the view window in the common area, looking out at the stars streaking by. Shane peeked in and slowly came in.

"Hey Tor..." he said, as she looked up at him.

"You still mad at me?" he asked. She rolled her eyes. The lost puppy look on his face was pathetic.

"I should be mad at you both...but if this crazy plan works, then we'll be rid of Ivan Ooze. Besides, I know it was Hunter's idea," she said, as he sat down next to her.

"You're right...it was," he agreed. She sighed.

"I know he's doing it for us though. I just..." she started to say, but angrily swiped the tears away. She hated crying.

"Hey...come on, he'll be okay," Shane assured her, as he hugged her tightly.

"Will he? All I can think about is what Ivan Ooze is probably doing right now. I know he's in pain...I don't know how, but I know," she sniffed. He rubbed her back in a soothing manner.

"Yeah, I'm not gonna lie to you. Ivan Ooze is probably beating the living crap out of him right about now," Shane said. She glared at him.

"He can handle it, Tor. I don't like it either, but he'll recover faster than any of us ever could. Do you really think he was going to chance the possibility of Ooze capturing you?" Shane asked.

"What are you talking about?" Tori asked.

"Zedd was positive he would try it if Vile didn't beat him too it. He knows he can't beat Hunter in a fair fight and the lure of possibly having another with power like his to mold into their own instrument of destruction is just too great," Shane said. Tori's heart skipped a beat in her chest.

"The baby...he wanted the baby," she realized.

"Hunter wasn't going to take that chance so he came up with this plan instead. And despite it being drastic, I think it actually might work," Shane said, as he patted her shoulder just as Dustin walked in, mouth full of food from the giant sandwich in his hand.

"Dudes...someone totally stocked the fridge. I'm carb loading," Dustin mumbled.

"Did you bring me anything?" Tori asked. He frowned.

"No..." he said, not liking the way she was looking at his sandwich.

"Dude...she's eating for two," Shane reminded, as the yellow ranger plopped down on the other side of her.

"I know and if little dude eats like his dad, you're gonna be huge," Dustin joked. Tori gasped in mock outrage and smacked him in the face with a pillow.

"You know I'm kidding," Dustin defended himself and handed her the rest of his sandwich.

"Thank you," she said, as she took a bite.

"And for the record, little dude could be a little dudette," she reminded. Shane and Dustin chuckled.

"Oh man, Hunter is doomed if it's a girl. She'll have him wrapped around her pinky," Shane said. Tori smiled.

"And all her uncles too," Tori said slyly.

"She's got us there, dude," Dustin agreed.

"Man, that's right. We're going to be Uncles. I'll be the coolest Uncle ever," Shane said.

"Dude, I think we all know that I'll be the coolest Uncle. I'm way more fun than you," Dustin replied. Tori smirked.

"He's got you there, dude," Tori teased and Shane rolled his eyes, but didn't argue. When Dustin was right, he was right.

"Seriously though, everything's gonna be fine. Hunter is wicked strong. Ooze's plan is going to backfire, cause we're going to make sure of it," Dustin assured her. She nodded.

"Thanks guys," she said, grateful to have her two best friends by her side, as always.

"Guys, suit up. We're coming out of hyperspace," Cam called through the comm system. The three Winds got up and hurried to join the others on the bridge.

To the prisoners in the Fire Pits, no joy or peace existed. Most collapsed and died of exhaustion or heat stroke within their first few days inside the molten prison. But those that did survive either followed the strongest prisoners and did their bidding inside the hellish place that was their dwelling or they were tormented by the others. Their entertainment was watching the strong dominate the weak. To some of those that followed and were too timid to stand up against those tormentors, they believed that the sweet release of death was preferable to their existence. They just had a problem with the pain that had to be inflicted to get there. As if existing in a place where flesh burns from mining diamonds and heat so extreme that it could cause death in minutes wasn't enough, there were those that decided dueling on lava islands was necessary. And when fresh meat arrived, you could see the tormentors eyes light with feral glee. And what a spectacle it was today.

Ivan Ooze, a being feared by all, even the Duronians landed before them. He tossed the unfortunate being that he held in the electric net to his feet and cut the trap open. They were all astonished to see a man, a very young man, pull himself to his feet.

"A human?" one uttered in horror.

"Here? He'll burn up in minutes," another snapped in disappointment.

"It's still fresh meat, even if he'll be charred to a crisp by dinner," one of the lead tormentors hissed. But one of the quiet bystanders wasn't so sure. This was something different about this boy. He was definitely not bad, many thrown in here were not. Many were good and powerful. He himself was a quiet, unassuming wizard from Inquirius whose only crime had been to cross and embarrass a Duroniana nobleman. Afraid of anyone who could possibly overpower them, the Duronian's threw them into this place.

"Well, I'm here. Happy now?" Hunter snapped. Ivan Ooze chuckled.

"Blissfully," Ooze said with glee.

"What's the deal? Why put some weak human in here? He won't last five minutes," the lead alien hissed.

"Yes, he doesn't look like much gentlemen, but don't let that pretty face fool you," Ivan goaded.

"Say hello to the Phoenix Ninjetti ranger and please be my guest in making his life a living hell," Ivan spat, as he started to walk away.

"Or you could fight me yourself!" Hunter spat.

"But we all know that's why I'm here, because you're too scared to take me on!" Hunter called fiercely. Ivan growled and turned, fired his purple lightning, which Hunter dodged.

"Fine brat...you want a fight, then that's exactly what you're going to get!" Ivan shouted, as his attack made contact and Hunter howled in agony, as he was tortured. Ivan used his magic and a device appeared in the sky.

"This device is now sending a signal not only all over this planet, but all over the universe! Everyone will witness me, Ivan Ooze, kill the mighty Phoenix ranger!" Ooze screamed. But Hunter smirked through his pain. This was exactly what he wanted and as the lightning ceased, Hunter pulled himself to his feet.

"What's that?" someone called, as they saw an object falling through the opening. Hunter jumped up and somersaulted through the air, catching the object, which happened to be his morpher and strapped it onto his wrist. Ivan Ooze's eyes widened and he saw the Ninja Storm rangers on the reverse projector of the planet's surface they were all now seeing. In the background, the Galaxy, Lightspeed, Space, and Dino Thunder teams thwarted the Duronian army's interference, as the Ninja Storm rangers gathered around the opening. Before them, the image inside the Fire Pits was being projected to them and all the Duronian spectators.

"Do it guys!" Hunter called, knowing they could see him on the projection.

"Good...a whole slew of rangers in one place. It will make it easier to kill you all!" Ivan hissed, as he began floating in the air toward the opening.

"Shane...you're co-leader of this team. Do it now!" Hunter snapped. Shane sighed and brought his hands together.

"Power of Air!" he called fiercely, as a red film covered the opening.

"Now Dustin!" Hunter ordered.

"But dude..." he protested.

"I'm fine...do it!" Hunter pressed.

"Power of Earth!" Dustin shouted, as his yellow energy joined Shane's, creating an already powerful barrier. Tori shook her head, as she stared at his image and her visor opened.

"Tor...I'm fine. But none of us will be if we don't do this. I can defeat him, but only if we keep him in here long enough," he told her. A tear slipped down her cheek and she willed her visor closed. Taking a deep breath, she brought her hands together.

"Power of Water!" she screamed. Blake knew he was next, but he was feeling the same reluctance.

"Blake...I'm fine..." Hunter assured him.

"You better be bro," Blake bit back, as he raised his hand to the sky.

"Sky of Wonder...Power of Thunder!" he called fiercely, as a layer of Navy lightning combined with the already impenetrable shield covering the opening.

"Cam...seal it with your ice power," Hunter ordered.

"No problem," Cam replied.

"Wow...you're not even a little worried?" Hunter teased.

"Please...I can't rid of you this easily," Cam retorted with his usual snark. Hunter smirked.

"You're an ass," Hunter joked.

"Takes one to know one," Cam joked back, as he brought his hands together and his amulet glowed bright green.

"Samurai blizzard beams!" he called, as his ice created the final layer. Hunter smirked, as he watched Ivan try in vain to use his powers to bust through the Storm shield, before he finally floated back down to the ground.

"I'll kill you for this! You won't keep me here!" Ivan ranted. Hunter smirked.

"You mean like how you were stuck in here for thousands of years? And how you can only be destroyed in here?" Hunter goaded. Ivan chuckled.

"I'm going to make you eat your words, brat. And we'll see if even the mighty Phoenix can survive being thrown into a river of lava!" Ivan growled, as he charged the young ninja. Hunter flipped over his head and landed behind him, before activating his morpher.

"Phoenix Storm, Ranger Form!" he called, as he morphed and drew the Phoenix saber, as Ivan charged again, dueling the ranger, while others looked on.

"Pfft...so he's a ranger. Bet I could take him," one of the leaders boasted.

"Then you are a fool," the old wizard from Inquirius retorted.

"Watch it, old man," he warned. But the old wizard wasn't concerned with his threat. If this boy was a Ninjetti and possessed the spirit of the Phoenix at that, then it was those with evil in their hearts that needed to be worried.

"Let's help Lord Ooze out with this whelp. Maybe he'll reward us by getting us out of here," the cocky leader said, as he approached the ranger from behind. He wound his arms back, fisting his hands in an attempt to hit him between the shoulder blades. But sensing the poorly devised plan, Hunter flailed his energy and a bolt of crimson lightning struck the would be attacker, throwing him back. The fool growled.

"You wouldn't be so tough without that armor on," he accused. Hunter sighed. This idiot was not worth it, but to make it a point with him so he could get back to his real target, he would play his game. He canceled his morph and glared at his attacker.

"Fine...you get one free shot," Hunter tempted. He and some of the others laughed.

"You're dumber than you look, brat," he hissed. He clutched the jagged shank he had fashioned over the years and took a nasty swipe, slicing the side of Hunter's face. The crimson ranger's head jerked to the side and blood began to rush to the surface of his skin. The man and his friends howled in laughter, but stopped suddenly, as he turned his head back and the cut healed before their very eyes.

"Yeah, I'm totally the one that looks stupid right now," Hunter said sarcastically with an eye roll, as his fiery aura flared and his eyes glowed gold with the Phoenix spirit.

"Anyone else?" he offered. No one moved a muscle and Hunter turned his attention back to Ivan Ooze, activating his morpher again. The morphological being was using his purple lightning in an attempt to break through the storm shield. But his friends were holding strong. Hunter drew the Phoenix saber and heard the call of the Phoenix spirit.

"Don't fear it, my son. Embrace your destiny fully and you'll reach a new level of power of which has never been seen," Zander's ghostly voice spoke to him, how, he had no idea.

"Father...but how?" he asked.

"Well, I'm breaking just about every rule, but I was never one for rules anyway. I could never defeat Ivan Ooze, because it was not my destiny. It is yours," Zander explained.

"He's right sweetheart. Trust the power inside you," Dulcea spoke to him telepathically from above where she stood with the others, offering her own power to seal the opening.

"I don't understand why it's me," Hunter responded.

"Why not you? You are the child of two Ninjettis, the Phoenix Ninjetti, most power of all," Zander countered.

"We all believe in you sweetheart. Start believing in yourself," Dulcea said.

"She's right. And I know Ivan Ooze is powerful. But there is one incredible power that you have that he will never know of have," Zander said.

"Love," Hunter said.

"Yes...love for your friends, your family, and your home. And ultimately, love for your future wife and baby. Love will transcend all. He can never defeat it," Zander said, as Hunter renewed his focus on bringing his power out.

On the surface, they were starting to tire, but held strong, knowing that all their lives depended upon it. Tori felt the power course through her and crimson thunder sizzled along her forearms, adding yet another layer to the shield. It helped immensely, but Shane worried about her now.

"Careful Tor...I don't want you to strain yourself too much and endanger the baby," he said. She smiled at him, grateful to have someone like him. He truly was a big brother to her.

"I'm fine Shane. The baby is strong," she assured him.

"Just in case, let's give you a little extra protection," Zedd stated, as he transferred the dragon shield to her. Tori smiled beneath her helmet.

"Thanks," she replied, as she went back to concentrating her powers on the shield.

Hunter's aura exploded around him, crimson lightning shooting off wildly around him. He had regained Ooze's attention and he willed his visor open so the being could gaze into his now golden eyes. And Ivan couldn't hide the fear, as he looked the Ninjetti.

"No...this isn't possible. You're a child! I will not be bested by a child!" he roared angrily, as he fired a crackling orb of purple and black energy at him. Hunter sheathed his saber and concentrated his own energy into a fiery orb. The spheres of power collided and dueled for control. The ground shook beneath them and broke apart, spewing magma around them. Ooze shot into the air and Hunter deployed his wings following him. For several moments, all that could be seen was the clashing of a purplish black figure against a crimson and gold one, as they moved almost too fast for the naked eye.

Carter, Ryan, Dana, and Kelsey charged at the pair of Duronian Generals with a ferocity they had never known. For months, they had waited for the opportunity to avenge the deaths of hundreds of innocent people in Mariner Bay and all aboard the Aqua base, four of which they had all loved very much. With their morphers finally repaired, they charged into battle, but not without the weaponry to do the job. Carly had constructed battle gear for them all. The green skinned aliens were determined to get passed the rangers in order to attack Hunter's team. But the rangers were more determined to hold them at bay.

"Out of my way, red ranger," one of them growled.

"Don't you get tired of being slaves to that monster?" Carter questioned, as he blocked the creature's punch.

"My people have prospered under the rule of the Ooze Empire for centuries!" he boasted.

"Yeah, because no one has risen up against him. You're just well paid slaves," Carter retorted. The alien growled and lunged at him, but Carter pulled his new canon weapon and fired in rapid succession, blowing the alien to pieces.

"That was for you Chad," he said.

The other three rangers charged at the other general. The girls split his defenses, while Ryan powered up a blast with his new canon. He fired and blue blood splattered everywhere, as his blast went through the creature's abdomen.

"That was for you, Dad," he said solemnly. Dana and Kelsey finished him off, each firing a blast from their respective canons, leaving the alien now in pieces.

"And that was for Joel and Angela," Dana stated.

Trent's white arrows met their mark and pain exploded in the soldier's chest. The Duronian soldiers were coming in droves. They were strong, but not nearly as well trained as the Generals serving in Ooze's army. The soldier had no time to recover either, as Trini's attack came on the heels of Trent's, her Ankylo glaive delivering justice by severing the head from the body. More soldiers dropped like flies around Kira and Tanya, as their super Dino mode was just too much. Kat and Ethan made quick work of their lackey's as well, leaving Jason and Conner free to shred through several more Generals.

Jason's energy orbs took out three more Generals, while Conner's battle blast devastated another slew of oncoming troops. Conner looked to Leo and Andros, finding that their teams had both squelched the rest of the resistance. With that, he took the lead with Jason behind him and marched into the Duronian palace. Foolish guards attempted to take down the young ranger, but they were swiftly cut down by the advancing Dino rangers, as they stormed the Throne room.

"Surrender and we won't do you any harm," Jason said, as two guards pointed their weapons at the rangers.

"And I'm supposed to believe that?" the Duronian on the Throne spat.

"My guess is that you're just as confused by your King's actions as your people are," Conner responded. The being was silent.

"Obviously, you've been put in charge in his absence in an attempt to keep some kind of order on your planet," Jason continued.

"Yes...and then you rangers have come and invaded us!" he spat.

"We're here, because Ooze made us come here by taking one of our own. One that can and will free your people from that tyrant once and for all!" Conner spat back.

"That brat will not defeat the likes of Ivan Ooze," he said skeptically.

"Are you paying attention to that battle? The fire down there is weakening your precious Emperor and only fueling the Phoenix ranger's energy. He's on borrowed time," Jason warned.

"So you just expect me to kneel and give up to the likes of you, weakling human?!" he spat.

"We're rangers and we keep the peace, above all else. Surrender and there will be no more bloodshed. Give up your violent ways and your people can know peace," Conner pleaded. The green skinned ruler glared at the rangers.

"There will be no peace...only your demise!" he screamed, as he and the guards launched at them. Conner blocked him with the Triassic shield and hurled him back, causing him to hit the Throne and topple behind it. Jason cut the guards down with his saber, just as S.P.D. arrived to take over. A red ranger they had never seen before, though his helmet looked similar to Wes' design nodded curtly to them.

"Who are you?" Jason asked.

"Commander Tate, Space Patrol Delta," he said simply, as he took out his badge and placed the current acting ruler in containment.

"Guess you guys got it from here," Conner said, as he and Jason ventured out of the palace.

Ivan Ooze had never felt quite this winded before, not even against Zander. The young Ninjetti continued to draw from what seemed like a well of unlimited power. But he would not be bested and as the saying went, desperate times called for desperate measures. Hunter noticed the sudden change, as his energy turned completely black, almost swallowing him inside an orb of dark energy.

"You will not defeat me, brat! Once this energy sphere burrows its way to the center of the planet, it will explode and I will kill you all!" Ooze cackled maniacally. Hunter's eyes widened beneath his visor, as he watched the energy slowly descend to the surface. It was now or never. He had never unleashed the Phoenix spirit fully and now he was about to find out if he could do it.

"Battlizer!" he called, as his armor molded around his body. He drew the Phoenix saber and thrust it into the sky, calling his powers forth. Crimson thunder and fire slowly grew into a mass of energy above him.

"Spirit of the mighty Phoenix...unleash!" Hunter commanded. The mass of energy formed into a giant crimson and gold flaming bird and shot up at the descending energy. The Phoenix jaws swallowed the attack and kept barreling toward its enemy.

"NOOOOO!" Ivan Ooze screamed in disbelieving rage. The Phoenix swallowed Ivan Ooze and Hunter guided his energy into the lava lake below them, plunging him into the fiery abyss. He landed on the bank of the molten river, watching the burning creature struggling to pull himself from the lava, even as he was melting.

"No...this can't...be happening!" Ooze screamed in pained rage, as his eyes bled purple ooze.

"Finally...justice for all the lives you've destroyed, for every innocent life you took, for every planet you enslaved or obliterated!" Hunter yelled. Ooze's charred, dripping hand grabbed Hunter's ankle, but the Phoenix fire aura only caused him more pain, as the place he had crawled from thousands of years ago finally claimed him back. His final screams were finally squelched, as every ounce of his essence burned up. Hunter floated into the sky above the river that coursed through the hellish place.

"No one...no matter what crime they committed deserves to be in a place like this!" he said, as he made several swiping motions with his saber, sending flails of Phoenix energy into the lava. The Phoenix fire hardened the lava, turning the once fiery prison into a much more docile place. He willed his visor open and looked at the recording device that still whirred in the sky.

"It's over guys...Ivan Ooze is dead!" Hunter called. They were already celebrating, their visors open, with wide smiles. They released their powers and the barrier disappeared. Hunter saw a flying transport descend into the pit with a logo Space Patrol Delta on the side. Once the vehicle landed, Hunter was surprised to see several alien and human looking people get out, all in similar uniforms. The one in the center was perhaps the most striking, as he walked like a man, but had a dog head with reptilian-like skin instead of fur.

"Ninja form," Hunter called, as his armor disappeared and he returned to his crimson lined ninja uniform.

"Hunter Bradley I assume," the creature addressed in a clear tone. The crimson ranger nodded.

"I'm Doggie Cruger, Space Patrol Delta. We're here to deal with the prisoners that have been kept here and police this out of control planet," Cruger stated.

"The majority of the Duronian Army is under the control of Master Vile, who has hijacked their King. The other rangers and I will be dealing with him. I doubt after what they saw here, that this planet will put up too much resistance, cause they probably don't want me to come back," Hunter said. Doggie nodded.

"As for these prisoners, some should be incarcerated, but many committed no crimes," Hunter continued. Cruger nodded.

"My team has all the files and we'll return those who deserve liberation to their homes and deliver others to the appropriate prisons. You've done the galaxy a great service," Cruger said.

"I'm just glad that bastard is finally dead," Hunter replied. He rode to the surface with Cruger and was immediately tackled with hugs, first from his mother and Uncle and then his friends and fiance.

"I love you Mom," he told Dulcea.

"I love you too sweetie...so much," Dulcea replied, her eyes brimming with tears.

"Don't you ever try a risky plot like this again!" she scolded. He chuckled.

"Your father is watching and I know he's bursting at the seems with pride, just as I am," Zedd told him.

"Are you getting mushy on me, Uncle?" Hunter teased.

"Of course not. Training in the morning at five am.," Zedd quipped, earning a groan from his nephew.

"Dude...that was epic!" Shane exclaimed.

"Yeah, you smoked him...literally!" Dustin added.

"Boiled ooze," Shane joked. Tori rolled her eyes.

"So that's it...we won!" Blake cheered.

"Half won. We still have Vile and half the Duronian army to contend with," Cam reminded.

"You're such a downer," Dustin teased. Hunter and Tori weren't paying attention to them anymore though, as they hugged fiercely. His plan had been risky, but just holding her made it all worth it.

"Don't you ever scare me like that again, thunder boy," she said fiercely. He chuckled and pressed his lips against hers.

"It worked, didn't it?" he asked, giving her a lazy smile. She huffed.

"This time...and he's really gone," she said, smiling at that, as she pressed her forehead against his.

"He's really gone, babe and Vile's about to join him," he assured, as she kissed him again.

"Guys...I hate to break up your love fest," Cam drawled sarcastically.

"Not sorry enough not to do it," Hunter retorted.

"We should head back to Earth," Cam suggested.

"Yeah, we're still on candid camera so I'm sure he won't wait long to attack," Shane said.

"Yes, he's desperate for sure and knows his time is limited. There's no telling what he'll do," Dulcea agreed.

"Meanwhile, Ooze meant for the entire galaxy to see him kill you, but instead, hundreds of worlds witnessed you kill a feared tyrant. This day will definitely have impact for years to come," Zedd stated.

"What do you mean, Uncle?" Hunter asked.

"I'll explain more on the way back. Let's go," he said, all the Earth teams loaded onto the Phoenix carrier zord bound for Earth, leaving S.P.D. to deal with the aftermath on Duronia...
