Chapter Fourteen
Colleen Renee Anderson is 36 years old, and was born and raised in Lansing Michigan. She went to college at the University of Michigan where she got her undergraduate degree in Nursing and then went on to get her master's degree, as an adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner & clinical nurse specialist, from the University of Michigan as well. After she graduated she worked at the University of Michigan Health System, which happens to be one of the world's leading hospital systems, with Seattle Grace is close behind. She worked there for 5 years until Dr. Webber, or Chief Webber offered her a better job here at Seattle Grace, nurse manager of the orthopedics department, and she has been here ever since.
When it comes to her job she is pretty amazing, to Callie nurse Colleen is like my nurse Lauren, except Colleen is a little better then Lauren at the moment. Lauren is only a charge nurse, and is in charge of the nursing staff that is on her shift. However Lauren is taking night classes at the University of Washington, she is getting her master's in acute care pediatric nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist. So by the end of the year she should have the same title as Colleen but she will be the nurse manager for the peds department.
However when it come relationships is where the perfect Colleen starts to crumble. According to an authentic Arizona Robbins not so legal background check and stalking session, please don't tell Callie, Colleen has been in 4 relationships, and that includes the brief fling she had with Callie. Come on I'm not that dumb. Each relationship ending on bad terms, now when I say bad term I mean each of her girlfriends had to file a restraining order on her. She did hardcore stalking, death threats to her ex's and their current girlfriends, and she has even threatened to kill herself on several occasions.
Long story short, the bitch is crazy, and has her craziness set on my wife at the moment. Unfortunately for Colleen what she has with Callie won't end with a restraining order, it's going to end with her death, once again please don't tell Callie.
I believe that Teddy is somewhat right. When I get rid of the Colleen and Stark, this whole no killing thing might last a lot longer and might go away when I have no one provoking me. So for the past few days I have been trying my best to stalk the both of them, but right now stalking is easier said than done. At the moment, Callie and I have become a one car family yet again, because Callie doesn't trust me enough to leave me alone with a car. If I need to stay late she goes and picks Sofia and the twins and they just play in her office until I'm ready to go home.
So how am I doing my stalking, you ask? I do it during our family outings to the grocery store and other places Callie needs to go to. I was and still am the one that drives everywhere when we go out as family. Callie is usually too busy in the passenger seat entertaining the kids to realize that I go out of my way to go to the store just so I can stalk Colleen or Stark.
Usually I purposefully forget something that Callie needed just so we can stay out a little bit longer if we need too. Callie hasn't caught on yet so I'm going to abuse the hell out of this situation.
"Hey, I was about to go to the OR did you want to come with me?" Callie asks from my office doorway.
"Yeah," I say with a slight smile as I close the window with Colleen's information on it. Callie and I have our first case together since she slapped me in the face a few weeks ago. We have 13 year old girl who has a fused hip with OA knee. Something both Callie and I have never seen before.
I get up from the desk and grab my scrub cap before I turn off my lights and close my door. Together Callie and I enter the quiet and empty elevator and make our way downstairs.
"How are you feeling today?"
"Surprisingly good," I say with a small smile.
Callie pauses to look at me. When she sees that I'm not hiding anything she somewhat drops the subject. "Well that's good. It's nice to finally have you not snap at me."
"Yeah, I'm sorry about that."
"You shouldn't be. I took away something that you loved. I knew you would be mad at me, but it's always going to hurt when you yell and take your anger out on me. Nothing I can really do to brace myself for that."
"Well since Sofia is going to be at Zola's house tonight and the twins will be with Addison and Teddy, why don't I make it up to you tonight?"
Callie doesn't say anything as she just looks at me.
"I don't mean sexually," I blurt out. That didn't sound right, "Not unless you wanted to do that." Why am I failing at this conversation right now? "What I meant was we could have a date night. I could take you out to dinner and movie and when we get home we could just see where it leads us?"
Callie just smiles at me, apparently she finds my failure at talking cute at the moment. "I would like that, but we have food in the fridge that we need to eat before it goes bad and right now I really want to see that Disney movie Planes and I will feel guilty if we see it without the kids because I know they are dying to see that movie."
"Ok, there is nothing wrong with a nice romantic evening in. I could kill the two of us with my cooking and then we can watch Insidious because it's next on our Netflix queue."
Callie's face changes a little bit when I tell her what the movie is going be. Just like me playing the quiet game with the kids, coming in at a close second to things Callie hates are scary movies. "Well I'll make dinner tonight, and I can't promise you that my face will leave your neck during the movie."
I just grin at her when the elevator dings on our floor. We both get out the elevator and scrub in for our surgery together. In total it takes us about 4 hours to do a successful surgery. We don't have time to stay and chat with each other after our surgery because I have a club foot repair with some intern and she has some surgery as well right after.
Somehow my dumb intern has messed up a simple surgery and it takes us a little longer than usual, so by the time I scrub out I see Callie in the hallway waiting for me. "Ready to go?"
I just look over towards to the clock on the wall that is hanging to my left. "Wow didn't realize how late it was." I say when I notice that my shift was over an hour ago. We have idle chit chat as we make it upstairs to the lounge to shower and change. Like usual I'm the first one done and I'm left waiting for Callie.
About 10 minutes later Callie is done getting ready and we go out to my car. We change cars every week so we can get good use out of both cars.
Things are starting to get back to normal between Callie and me because the car ride home is a nice comfortable silence as we both lean towards the center console holding hands with our fingers intertwined.
"I don't know about you, but I'm starving." Callie says when we walk through the front door.
"When am I not hungry?" I say back with a smile.
Callie gives out a small chuckle before she walks into the kitchen to start dinner. While Callie goes to the kitchen I find myself going upstairs to our bedroom to get everything situated for tonight. It takes both Callie and I an hour to get everything ready. When I'm finished with everything upstairs is when Callie calls me for dinner.
When I get downstairs to the kitchen I see that Callie has made filet with mashed potatoes, broccoli and a side salad. I see that she has taken Sofia's seat while I still have my same seat at the head of the table.
I don't say anything at I cut into my filet and take a bit. "Well?" Callie questions. "The filet has been in there for a while and it was about to go bad. Can you deal with it or should I just order pizza?"
"No, it's delicious like all of your cooking." I start out with a smile, "but you know me and steak." I give her a small grin.
"A1," Callie says as she gets up from her seat to go to the pantry.
When Callie has her back turned towards me, I instantly feel guilty. I can't believe I'm about to do this, but a serial killer has do what a serial killer has to do. I reach into in my left pocket and pull out a needle that is half filled with M99. It's not enough to make her instantly pass out, but when the time comes to watch our movie she'll feel very tired and she'll have a good night's rest.
With her back still towards me I take my needle and inject the M99 into her filet. When she turns around I quickly put the needle back into my pocket and just smile at her as she puts the bottle in front me. "Thank you, honey." I say as I lean in for a kiss.
After a quick kiss we both eat our dinner in the same comfortable silence that we had when we were driving home. I offer to clean the kitchen while Callie goes upstairs to change. It doesn't take me that long to clean the kitchen because it was only the two of us and usually Callie cleans the kitchen while she cooks so there isn't that much of a mess by the end of dinner.
Callie is already lying on the couch pulling up the movie when I leave the kitchen. I can see it in her eyes that she is fighting to stay awake. "Let me change, and then we can get our scare on."
Callie lets out a low growl letting me know she isn't thrilled about our movie choice. She makes me watch romantic shit all the time, I think it's fair that I get to make her watch a horror movie every once and a while.
When I get upstairs I take my time to change into my traditional kill outfit, which was still in its original resting place. Once I'm changed I go downstairs to find Callie passed out on the couch. I give her a kiss on the cheek before I cover her with blanket and turn off the TV and lights in the living room. I grab my car keys and leave the house. After a quick stop by my boat to pick up my supplies I find myself waiting in the parking lot at Urban Yoga Spa.
I parked my car right across from Colleen's car, who parked in the back away from the security light. Thank you for making this easy for me, Colleen. I'm waiting for another hour when finally her small evening class gets out. Most of her classmates parked in the front row and are long gone by the time Colleen emerges from the building. I wait quietly as she walks up to her car. She pops open her trunk to get everything situated before she leaves. With her back facing me I get out of my car and quietly make my way over towards an unsuspecting Colleen. I don't say anything to her as I inject M99 into her neck.
Immediately she falls into my arms and half carry her back to my car before I tie her up and throw her in the trunk of my car. It takes me 30 minutes to drive and sneak into the abandon Seattle Behavioral Health Clinic. I found this place during one of my many detours with Callie and the kids. I get out of my car and walks towards the truck. When I open the trunk to grab my black duffel bag and rolls of plastic when I pause to stare at Colleen's passed out body.
'Since did my code include people who get emotionally attached to someone?' Tim says on my left side.
'She's emotionally attached to my wife. Too emotionally attached if you ask me, who knows what she is capable of doing. She needs to be stopped before it's too late, and she takes out her anger on Callie or my kids.'
Tim just shakes his head at me, 'fine. Kill her,' he says before he disappears.
The lack of fight between me and my brother (or myself) throws me off my game and I just look at the spot where my brother once stood. I'm staring the spot for about 10 minutes before I turn my attention back to Colleen.
Colleen doesn't want to leave my wife alone, and I know Callie has probably asked her to stop and she hasn't. She's upsetting my wife, which in return upsets me. Why am I building myself up to kill Colleen right now? It's been two weeks since I've killed someone and I've been dying for the opportunity to kill someone. Here's my opportunity and I can't do it. Come on, Robbins take the plastic, set up the room, and stab this bitch.
"Fuck," I scream as I close my trunk and lean up against my car. I'm staring up at the stars when I feel my right hand slip into my pocket and pull out my phone. I look down at the screen as I unlock the phone and pull up my favorites list. My thumb hoovers over the top of the list over Callie's name. I sigh to myself as tap her name and call her phone.
No surprise when she doesn't answer the phone the first time, but that doesn't stop me from pushing redial. Every time I push redial I feel myself break down little. Finally after the sixth call Callie finally answers the phone.
"Hello?" her voice is a little groggy since I just woke her up.
"I need you," I say as I cry into the phone.
"Arizona?" she questions.
"Please, Callie." I cry. "I need you, right now."
"Where-where are you?" I hear her as she lifts herself up from the couch.
"I snuck out of the house when you were passed out on the couch." I pause for a moment. "I was going to kill someone before you woke up. I want to do it, I have someone passed out in my trunk, but for some reason I can't bring myself to do it."
"Where are you?" Callie's voice starts to get more stern as she wakes ups and processes everything I'm telling her.
"I'm at the old abandon behavioral health clinic, in the back off of the Pike side street."
"Ok, I'll be there in a few minutes. Don't move or… kill anybody." Callie says to me.
"Ok," I whisper into phone before I shake my head yes.
Callie stays on the phone with me until she arrives 35 minutes later. When she gets here she parks her car right behind mine and gets out. I'm too ashamed and upset to move so Callie just makes her way over towards me.
I look at her for all of 2 seconds before my face falls into my hands and start to cry. I'm crying into hands when I feel Callie's warm body wrap itself around me. As Callie hugs me tighter I remove my hands from my face and wrap my arms around her and bury my face into her neck/collarbone.
"I'm sorry," my voice is muffled from Callie's shirt.
"It's ok," she says calmly as she rubs my back for comfort. "Did you,"
"No," I cutoff, I immediately know what her question was going to be. "They're still in my car." I say with my head still in it resting place. "What should I do?"
"You going to put this person back where you found them, and then we are going to go home." Callie says before she kisses the top part of my head. "Ok?"
"Ok," I say as I shake my head. We back away from each other and we both look into the others eyes.
"I'm glad you called me," Callie tries her best to smile, but like usual Colleen is ruining the moment and she's not even conscious.
Unlike Callie, I'm able to muster up a small smile. "Come let's put them back before they wake up." Callie says to me.
Callie walks back to her car while I get into mine. Since she blocking me in she is the first to back out followed by me. After we leave the property Callie follows me back to Urban Yoga Spa. I pull up next to Colleen's car and place her still unconscious body into the driver's seat before Callie and I go home.
The closer we get to the house the more nervous I get because I know Callie would have recognized Colleen's car and body, and I'm scared about what she might say or do. Sure she was happy when I called but things might change when she saw that Colleen was about to be my next victim.
When we both enter the house we are silent, and it's not comfortable. It's awkward as all hell. We both walk upstairs and walk into the master bedroom. Callie gets into the bed while I walk into the closet to the change. When I get out, I get into bed with Callie but I turn my back so I'm facing away from her on the far side of the bed.
I feel Callie move for a few seconds before I feel her body press up against mine and her arm wrap itself around my waist, pulling me closer to her. I would love to make about joke about this because every time Callie and I play big spoon little spoon I usually play big spoon, but having her wrapped around me feels nice. We are both quiet for about 2 hours because we both find it hard to sleep, but after waiting for about 2 hours sleep finally comes to visit the Robbins' family.
A combination of things, that aren't my internal clock, wake me up the next morning. I hear the sound of Jackie squealing followed by a small playful gasp from Addison first. My eyes are still closed as I start to slowly wake up. The next think I feel is a small warm pressure on my chest. This causes me to fully open my eyes and look down at my chest, because the pressure is too small and a little too warm to be Callie. I look down to see William curled up on my chest sleeping.
When I place my hand on his back is when all the noise from Jackie and Addison playing downstairs instantly drowns out. He is hot to the touch and he never sleeps in, well not right now at least. He starts to squirm and lets out a small whine when I start to move to get up from the bed. After I manage to sit up on the bed, is when William repositions himself in my arms. He is sitting on my right side with his hands holding on to the front and back part of my shirt, while he buries his face in the crook of my neck. The minute his forehead comes in contact with my neck I know instantly that my little man has a fever, but that doesn't stop me from going into the bathroom to make sure.
I try to set him down on the countertop but he refuses to leave arms. Every time I try to set him down he lets out a whine and clings to me tighter. "It's ok, little man," I say as I take out the thermometer and take his temperature, which proves to be a hard task since he doesn't want to leave my arms and the thermometer is an ear thermometer.
After a few seconds the thermometer finally beeps and I look down at the small screen. Its official, my son is sick with a fever of 103 degrees. "Potty," William says to me.
"Okay," I say as I walk him over to the toilet. However it's a little too late because along with his fever, William also has diarrhea which is half in his diaper and half and toilet. Once he is done, I take him to his room to change his diaper and to change his pajamas to his Looney Tunes two piece instead of his Marvin the Martian onesie. That way if he has to go to the bathroom again it won't take that long.
When he is changed I pick him up and he goes back to holding both my front and back part of my shirt and he reburies his face in my neck. I take him downstairs to see Addison hovering over Jackie tickling her sides while making faces at her. She pauses to look over at us before she stops playing with Jackie and walks up to William and I.
"I would ask if he is feeling better, but I'm going to say not." Addison says as she gently rubs William's back. "He had a fever of 99 last night."
I give a slight groan of worry. "It jumped up to 103 this morning."
Addison gives me a slight face of concern, "is there anything you want me to do?"
"Try to keep Jackie's attention away from her brother." I say with slight sigh.
"Ok."
"Where's Callie?" I question before I take William to kitchen.
"She's in the basement with Teddy. She really wanted to talk to her alone. It must have been important because they have been down there for the past 2 hours."
Well seeing out they are probably talking about me and my hobby I would expect it to be a long painful conversation.
"Babbie," Jackie says from the couch.
"Coming princess," Addison says before she walks over and picks up Jackie and sits her in her lap.
"I'll be in the kitchen if they finally come upstairs." I say to Addison.
Addison shakes her head before she lays Jackie down over her knees and gives her a raspberry on her stomach.
When I get to kitchen I grab William's Toy Story sippy cup, and fill it with water. I hold the cup to him and just clings to me tighter while letting out a whine. "Okay, you don't want water. How about some milk?" I question. Fun fact of the day, most parents believe that milk causes mucus build up and it is bad to give to a sick child, but it's actually a good thing to give to your child when they are sick. The protein, calories and fat found in milk will help them keep their strength when they are sick, thought I would share that fun fact with you.
"Noooo," William whines again when I suggest milk.
Okay, he doesn't want milk or water. I open the fridge hoping that there is juice inside, but we only have orange juice and that can irritate his throat. Apple or grape juice would help him more but we don't have any. I close the fridge and open the freezer, one thing I know he won't turn down is a Popsicle, which we don't have either. Well fuck, how am I supposed to hydrate him when we have nothing in this house?
William's whine turns into him crying, "Potty." The smell and warmth coming from his diaper lets me know that I'm too late on getting him to bathroom so we go back upstairs so I can change his diaper again.
After his diaper is changed, I'm joined by Callie. A quick glance shows that she has been crying. "Hey you, are you alright?" Clearly she's not, because she has been crying, but I ask anyways even thought I know she is going lie and say that she is alright when she's not.
"Yeah, I'm fine." See I told you, "How is he doing?"
"Well according to Addison, worse than yesterday."
Callie's face drops and she has the classic worried mother look in her eyes. Something I see on a daily basis. "Oh my god is he sick, does he have a disease, do we need to go to hospital."
Callie is on rapid fire with the questions giving me no time to answer. "You need to calm down," I say as rest both of my hands on either side of her shoulders. "He has a fever and diarrhea. His fever is high but not too high. If it's still high tomorrow then we should take him to hospital, but right now he just needs rest and fluids." I keep my voice low and calm because that always seem to calm Callie down, and it is working right now. "We need to go to store because we don't have any juice or popsicles."
"You're the pediatrician. You and Teddy should go to store because you'll know what to buy."
Callie's request catches me off guard. I figured I broke all the trust I gained over the past few weeks last night with the whole drugging her and sneaking out to kill Colleen. Maybe Teddy hammered it in her brain that I always put my family first, which is true, and that is why she letting me venture out on my own with Teddy as a chaperone. The scream that William lets out breaks both of us from our thoughts as we turn our attention to him. I have heard him scream and cry before, but nothing like this. Callie is holding him in her arms but he is crying looking right me with his arms extended towards me. He wants to be held and close to me at the moment.
We both don't put a fuss as we grant his wish. The minute William is in my arms he resumes his previous position. I put hand under his shirt and rub his back as he starts to calm down. "Go with Addison and take Jackie with you." Callie just shakes her head. "When you go to the store get Pedialyte, get both the drink and the popsicles if they have them, he likes all the flavors expect bubble gum and the unflavored. If they don't have Pedialyte then get him apple or grape juice preferably one with low sugar, and get him popsicles with real fruit. Oh and I think he should have your homemade chicken soup for dinner."
Callie just shakes her head before she leans in to give William a kiss on the head. I hear Addison and Jackie follow Callie out of the house, while I stay upstairs pacing around with William. I'm walking up and down the hallway upstairs when I hear Teddy's pager go off. Right when I turn around to start walking towards the stairs is when I see Teddy coming up the stairs.
"The page is from Yang, so you know it's important." Teddy starts "we both know you won't do anything while you're with any of your kids, so we'll talk later."
"Okay," I whisper to Teddy before she turns around to leave.
After Teddy leaves the house is quiet, I manage to get William to fall asleep about 10 minutes later. I place him in his crib and turn on his baby monitor and walk downstairs. When I get to the foot of the stairs is when the doorbell rings. I take the short walk to the front door and open it to see Sofia, Roxie and Derek.
"Hi Mommy," Sofia says as she gives me hug. I bend down to give both her and Roxie a hug before the two of them go run around the living room playing with each other.
Once they go off in their own little world I turn my attention to Derek, who has slight look of concern on his face. "Oh God what happened?" I question.
"Nothing," Derek says as he wipes the concerned look off this face. "It's just Meredith and Zola are on this dog kick now, and I know when Bailey can talk and understand what a dog is, he is going to want one too."
"I still have the number from the place where I got Roxie. She only does pure breeds of Golden Retrievers but she can point you in another direction if you want something else. Do you want me to give it you when I find it?"
"Really, there is no hope for me?" I just give him a slight shrug, before I shake my head no. "Man," he says under his voice. "Well I guess I'll look into if you find that number, oh and p.s. your wife and kids want to give Roxie a little brother or sister. Just a little heads up for ya."
I just let out sigh before I drop my head, "Yeah, maybe we can go through this process together at some point." Derek turns around starts to walk towards his car. "See you later, Arizona."
"See you later Derek," I say before I close the door.
After I say goodbye to Derek I step into the living room with Sofia, I'm about to play with them when Sofia stops me. "Mommy, I'm hungry."
"Okay, let's get you something to eat." I say as we both walk into the kitchen. Sofia sits at the table while I make the two of us a roast beef and Swiss sandwich. The table is somewhat quiet as we eat lunch number 1 because I know when Callie gets back she is going to make lunch, and Sofia nor I will turn that down.
Sofia's kicks her leg back and forth under her chair while humming to herself while she eats her sandwich. I finish before her so I just sit at the table and wait for her finish eating. "So Sof," I start out when she finishes the last of her sandwich, "I want you to tell me a story."
"A story about what, mommy?" Sofia still has a smile on her face and there is still a slight chirp in her voice.
"I want to know what happened to Fluffy."
Sofia's smile leaves her face and she is trying her best to give me a blank stare, but she and her dark passenger haven't been friends for long and I see the guilt in her eyes. "I don't know, he went outside to play and never came back. I think he got lost because this isn't his neighborhood." Sofia says before she looks down at her plate avoiding eye contact with me.
I inhale deeply before I reach into my pocket and pull out Fluffly's nametag and collar and throw them on the table in front her.
"He was dumb cat that was mean to Roxie, William and Jackie." Sofia immediately goes on the defensive.
I don't say anything mainly because I'm shock, so Sofia takes my silence as a queue to continue. "Roxie only wanted to say hi, but every time Roxie got close he hit her and ran away."
"What," I pause for a moment trying to find my voice again. "What about William and Jackie?"
"He scratched William for pulling his tale and he always hissed and chased Jackie around for no reason."
"You do know that Fluffy is a cat and Roxie is a dog, right?"
"So," Sofia pouts as she leans back in her chair.
"Cats and dogs don't like each other."
"Roxie is a nice dog and wouldn't be mean to Fluffy, but Fluffy never gave her that chance."
"Not a lot of animals like their tails being pulled." I lean forward towards Sofia.
"William always pulls Roxie's tail and you don't see her getting upset about that." Sofia counters back.
"Roxie is used to William always pulling her tail, Fluffy wasn't."
"What about Jackie," Sofia cuts off.
She's got me there. I would have turned that cat into a fucking soccer ball if I saw it hiss and chase my daughter around for no reason. "So you killed Fluffy after you saw how he treated your little brother and sister, and your dog."
Sofia just shakes her head yes, still looking down at her plate.
"How did you…" nope I can't ask that question. She killed the cat and that is all I need to know right now. "How did you feel after you killed Fluffy?" I quickly change my question.
"Sad, I saw how much Colleen loved Fluffy and I felt bad for taking him away from her."
We are silent for a few minutes before I break the silence between us. "Have you killed other animals since Fluffy?"
"No,"
"Have you thought about it?"
"No," Sofia pauses for a moment. "Mommy, am I in trouble?"
If I say yes, how do I get this past Callie? She can barely get over the fact that I actually kill people, I don't think she handle the fact that her daughter is starting to walk down the same path I did when I was her age. "No," I say in a soft voice. "But what happened to Fluffy will be our little secret, okay?"
"Okay, mommy."
"Sofia," I pause for a brief second. "If you ever feel like killing or hurting another animal I want you tell me, okay?"
"Okay," Sofia shakes her head.
"Go play with Roxie in the living room," Sofia doesn't say anything as she gets out of her chair and starts to walk towards the living room.
"Mommy," Sofia turns around to face me. "Can I watch Scooby Doo?"
"Sure thing, baby girl." I say as I get up and walk to the living room with her. I turn on the TV and start her show before I go to the kitchen to clean up the mess. I'm about to join Sofia in the living room when I hear William start to cry and scream my name.
I go upstairs to his room to see him sitting up in his crib crying looking for me. "Hey little man, I'm right here." I say as I walk up to his crib.
"Mommy," he cries as he raises his arms in my direction.
I pick him up and he resumes his previous position. I pace around upstairs for a few minutes and I manage to get him to stop crying but he is still awake with his face buried in my neck. I take him downstairs to try and get him to drink something because it is take the girls a long time to go to store, which means that even though I said regular juice is fine Callie will look all over the place until she finds Pedialyte because it's what's best for William and her kids only get the best.
I try to give him water and milk again but all he does is turn it down. "Come on little man, it will make you feel better."
"Noooo," he whines into my neck.
I sigh to myself before I open the freeze and take out an ice cube. "How about a mini Popsicle?"
"Popsicle?" William lifts his head from my neck to look at my hand.
"Popsicle," I repeat as I hand it to him. William takes the ice cube from my hand and puts in this mouth and keeps it there until its gone.
"Do you want another one?"
William shakes his head yes, and I give him another ice cube before we go back upstairs. Even though I know it's pointless I'm trying to keep Sofia and Jackie away from William right now because when a person is sick they are the most contiguous the first two days they are sick, which mean that Callie and I will get sick at some point down the road.
I make it to the top of stairs when I hear Callie and the girls get back. Addison and Jackie start playing with Sofia and Roxie while Callie comes upstairs to check on William and me. Right when Callie enters the room I have managed to get William to lie down on the bed while I lay next him. He is curled on my left side between my left arm and body. I'm about to start his favorite TV show, the Looney Tunes, when Callie walks into the room.
"I had to go to three different stores but I found Pedialyte in the flavors that he likes." Callie hands me a bottle and I just put it on my nightstand, saving it for later. "Is he going to be okay?" Callie asks she leans down to run her hand through his hair.
"Yeah, he'll be fine. I've taken his temperature again but he's starting to cool down. I can feel it when I touch him."
Callie just shakes her head.
"Mama, I'm hungry." Sofia says from the doorway.
Seriously? I just fed that kid not more than 5 minutes ago and she's already hungry again. She's not my biological daughter and she already has an appetite just as big as mine if not bigger.
"Okay sweet heart I'll make lunch in a minute." Callie says to Sofia, "did you want lunch too."
"I can't believe you just asked me that question."
Callie just lets out a chuckle before she leaves William and I alone. At some point during the show William and I pass out, and we don't wake up until around 5 in the evening, mainly because William has to go to the bathroom.
Callie hears our movement and tells us that dinner is almost ready. I clean up William before we go downstairs to eat dinner. Callie made her super delicious homemade chicken soup. After dinner the girls watch Cinderella downstairs while William and I watch Toy Story in the master bedroom.
After their movie Callie puts the girls to sleep while William and I stay in the master bedroom. William is completely passed out and I'm on the verge of sleep when Callie comes in. Callie gets changed and joins William and me in the bed. William is sleeping between us and after Callie turns off the lights and TV I feel her hand find my hand and intertwine our fingers. After the lights go out I would say in a matter of seconds I pass out just like my son.
The morning is a little ruff because just like yesterday William doesn't want to leave my side. Unfortunately Alex and I have surgery in the morning so it has to be Callie who takes the day off to look after our son.
I drop Sofia off at Brightwater before Jackie and I go to the hospital. When I get to hospital I go upstairs to the attending's lounge and I can't help but notice the strange looks from a few of the nurses. Fucking Colleen, I should have killed when I had the chance. Stupid conscience.
I ignore the looks and just change into my scrubs before I do rounds. After rounds I go downstairs and meet Karev for our gastric transposition on a 12 year girl with oesophageal atresia. Our surgery takes about 4 hours, and is successful. After surgery I make my way back up to my office and open the door for the first time. I plop down in the chair and turn my computer on, I put my elbows on the desk as I rub my left hand through my hair while look down towards the floor. When I glance down towards the floor the drawer that is on the bottom right side is closed, but it's closed a different way. I always make sure that my drawers are even with each other when they are closed and the bottom drawer is uneven to the others.
I don't touch the drawer and start to scan my office. My filing cabinets and the paperwork on them are still in their natural resting place. However the stack of papers on my desk is another story. Someone has been in my office.
"Hey," I hear a voice coming from my doorway. I look up to see Addison standing there in her pink scrubs.
"Hey," I say back with smile on my face. "What's up?" I ask when I see a worried look on her face.
"Did you not hear the news?" she questions.
I just shake my head no, "I have been so focused on William yesterday and this morning, I didn't get the chance read or watch the news. What happened?"
"Colleen Anderson, Callie's ortho nurse was murdered the other night."
I give Addison a slight look of concern when I hear the news as I play it off like I care a little. Now on the inside I'm freaking out a little bit, because I'm willing to bet that Stark killed Colleen, and planted the evidence in my office. "God, that's terrible. Do they know what happened or who did it?"
"She was found in the woods outside of her yoga studio but the police believe that her body was dumped there after she killed in another location. Her body was beaten and bruised like she was running away from something or someone, but what killed her as a spear to the coronary artery." Addison starts, "the police don't know who did yet and they have been asking around the hospital."
My public hatred towards Colleen plus hospital gossip equals bad news for Arizona Robbins.
"I know a few members of the nursing staff have commented about how the two of you hate each other. So I'm just giving you a heads ups, because they are probably going to want to talk to you at some point today."
I go back to look at the paperwork on my desk before I lightly shake my head, "okay, thanks Addison."
"No problem," Addison says before she leaves my office.
I'm about to put on a pair of latex gloves and go over my office with a fine tooth comb when I hear a deep male voice coming from my doorway. Once again I turn my attention to the doorway to see special agent Ramsey and another man standing right next to him.
"Dr. Robbins, we have reason to believe that you killed Colleen Anderson on the evening of November 9, 2013. We would like to search your office and ask you a few questions if you don't mind."
Sneaky son of a bitch
A/N: Alright ladies and gentlemen I'm going on another vacation starting tomorrow and I won't be back until Monday August 26, which means no update next Friday (Sorry). I'll try to make it up to you guys by posting two chapters the following week but I can't promise anything because I'm finishing up on getting my Certificated Flight Instrument Instructor Rating so most of my time will be spent preparing for the practical and knowledge test. So I'll see you the Friday after next...
P.S. I really like the video Kauhalee.
