Six Weeks Later… (Valentine's Day)
"What do you think about when you think about Valentine's Day?" asked Elizabeth to her students.
Becky raised her hand and said, "Hearts."
Cody also piped in and said, "Love."
"How about kissing?" asked Emily to which the rest of the children snickered a little.
"Yes, many of those things come to mind when it comes to Valentine's Day, other than maybe kissing," said Elizabeth looking at Emily. Elizabeth went on to talk about the story of Saint Valentine and Valentine's Day celebrations around the world before art time allowing the children to make Valentine cards for their mothers, friends, and siblings. Elizabeth grabbed a few supplies and sat down at her desk, grateful for the time to finally be off of her feet. Carrying around a seven month pregnant belly was getting harder by the day, she felt. She created sveral cards for her family members back in Hamilton and then hesitated for a few moments, thinking about what she wanted to write to Jack. She finally wrote down her message after some thought. she slowly pushed herself to her feet and walked over to the children, "alright children as soon as you are finished your valentines, you are dismissed," she said brightly. Once all of the children had gone home, Elizabeth gathered her things to head home for the day. When she entered her house, she found Jack hanging up his hat and red coat.
He turned around and smiled when he heard her enter, "Good afternoon my sweet Elizabeth."
"Hi honey," she smiled giving him a quick kiss. She sat down on the couch and Jack sat down next to her.
Jack kissed her on the temple before he said, "Go change."
"What?" asked Elizabeth surprisingly.
Jack chuckled and kissed her and said, "You heard me, go change into something nice. I'm taking you out for Valentine's Day."
"Where Abigail's?" asked Elizabeth knowingly.
Jack smiled and said, "Maybe, maybe not. But I would dress fancier, just in case."
Elizabeth gave her husband a confused look but headed upstairs to change anyway. She finally found a dress that fit over her twenty-eight week bump. Elizabeth smiled every time she thought about her and Jack's child within her. She just wanted to hold the little one in her arms already. Once she had finished changing, Elizabeth made her way downstairs to find that Jack had changed into a suit. Whether he had his Mountie uniform or a suit on, or quite frankly, even if he was only wearing pajamas, her husband was the most handsome man she had ever seen.
Jack smiled at her and said, "You look beautiful Elizabeth."
"And you look as handsome as you did on our wedding day," said Elizabeth adoringly. The couple kissed before Elizabeth said, "Now about that special dinner you're supposed to be taking me?"
Jack smiled and said, "Well we must head to the train station in order to make it in time for our reservation."
"Reservation?" asked Elizabeth following her husband to the coach. She loved him to death but he also confused her more often than not.
Yep," said Jack. The couple rode to the train station and Jack picked up their tickets to the surprise destination.
Jack and Elizabeth waited for a while before the announcer said, "Train 122 to Vancouver is now boarding."
"Well this is our train," said Jack stading and helping Elizabeth stand.
"Honey, what's in Vancouver that's so great?" asked Elizabeth following Jack.
Jack sat down next to Elizabeth on the train and he said, "You know that little mountain resort in Vancouver?"
Elizabeth let the news sink in before she smiled and beamed, "You didn't?"
"I did," said Jack happily.
Elizabeth beamed again, leaned over, and kissed Jack on the cheek, "But it's impossible to get reservations there. Especially on Valentine's Day."
"Well I managed to make some arrangements. We have the whole weekend to eat, sit by the fire, ski…"
"Jack, I don't think we want to try any skiing," chuckled Elizabeth rubbing her abdomen.
"Okay, no skiing, but maybe a nice romantic sleigh ride. And of course…"
"Jack!" said Elizabeth embarrassingly.
Jack smirked and kissed her temple. When the train arrived in Vancouver, the couple stepped into the station and found the coach to the resort, to which all of their belongings Jack had already sent to the room in advance. The couple entered the restaurant and placed their order before Jack lifted his water glass, "To our first Valentine's Day as husband and wife!"
Elizabeth chuckled and sipped her water, "I can't believe you planned all of this."
"Well believe it, my sweet Elizabeth," said Jack. After the couple had finished their meal, they went up to their room, where Elizabeth was overtaken with shock. Roses, soft lighting, boxes of chocolate, and champagne were in the room, though Elizabeth knew she couldn't have the champagne, "So what do you think Elizabeth?"
"Jack, it's amazing, but the champagne?"
"Yeah, I told them you're expecting and can't have champagne I guess they just forgot," Jack admitted honestly.
"Well, it's the thought that counts," said Elizabeth kissing him.
"So what do you say I light the fire, I can pour a glass of champagne for me and water for you, that way you won't poison our unborn son…"
"Or daughter," said Elizabeth jokingly.
"And we can relax, before I finish my gift for you," said Jack.
Elizabeth smirked, "Sounds like a plan Constable."
Jack and Elizabeth cuddled by the fire while Jack rubbed his hand over Elizabeth's abdomen, "So you really think it's a girl?" he asked.
"Well that's what I believe but I'll love whatever gender God made our little one," said Elizabeth, "It's our child."
Jack kissed Elizabeth and said, "Happy Valentine's Day Elizabeth. I love you and I'm so happy God gave me you."
Elizabeth kissed him back, "I love you too Jack." The baby started to kick again and Elizabeth smiled and said, "Someone else says he loves you too."
Jack leaned down and kissed Elizabeth's swelling belly, "See little guy, Mommy is finally admitting you're a boy."
"No, Mommy's not. Mommy is just humoring Daddy," said Elizabeth.
"Well, we'll found out soon enough won't we little one?" asked Jack. He received a not-so gentle kick in response.
"I think he or she agrees," said Elizabeth, "Now about that last part of your gift…"
Jack smiled happily, "Well now it's time for me to show Mommy how much I love her."
"If you insist Constable," Elizabeth smirked. Jack picked her up gently and carried her to the bed. She squealed with delight, which he immediately swallowed with a kiss.
