At only 17, it was rare that Kate was allowed to be at SAMCRO parties, but her big brother patching in to the club was kind of a big deal.
Rylan was 21 and had just finished prospecting. He had taken a couple years after high school to explore the possibility of college. Although he'd always wanted to patch into SAMCRO, he'd also been interested in the idea of an education and wanted to explore his options. But he'd soon learned it wasn't his thing and had eventually returned to Charming a year ago to prospect.
"Baby sister!" Rylan yelled when he saw her push through the heavy club house door. Although she wasn't the baby of the family, she'd always been treated as such, not only Rylan taking on the role of protector, but Abel and Thomas as well. As much as they could anyway. With both her fathers and the entire club doing the same, there wasn't much protecting left to do.
"Finally got your top rocker." Kate said, walking over and reaching out to give Rylan a hug. "Now you're an official asshole." She joked.
"Watch your mouth, girl." Happy said, appearing behind the blonde.
"As soon as you learn to do the same, daddy." She said sweetly as she kissed him on the cheek before doing the same to Kozik.
"Proud of you, baby." Lana said as she pulled Rylan in for a hug.
"Yeah, baby." Thomas teased. He had just been patched in as well.
"You hush." Lana pointed a finger at him. "Gemma's on her way over and I'm sure you're gonna get much worse from her."
Thomas' smile fell, knowing his grandmother had absolutely no shame when it came to public affection. As he headed off with Rylan, Abel turned away from the bar with a fresh beer in his hand. The bar was already crowded. It was a big day for SAMCRO and there would be a huge party tonight so everyone would be there, including 13 year old Caiden and 17 year old Kate.
Abel caught site of Kate. The two had grown up together and they'd always been close, but it wasn't until recently, over the last few months, that he'd started seeing her in a different light. She was nearly 18 now and he couldn't help but see her as woman rather than the little blonde girl that would follow him and the other boys around when they were kids.
She'd always been a tomboy. He supposed she hadn't had much choice, growing up in the club with only boys to play with, but seeing her now in a pair of skinny jeans and tank top, she was clearly a woman. He tried to shake off the thoughts he was having. He should find someone his own age. The girl was seven years younger than him. Not only that, but Happy would most likely kill him if he only knew.
"What are you looking at?" She asked as she walked up to him.
"Huh?" He asked, being shaken from his thoughts. "Nothin. Want a beer?" He asked.
Kate laughed and raised her brow in a way that made her look just like Lana. "Trying to get me drunk?"
"Like I gotta try." Abel said sarcastically.
"Here. Don't tell your mother." Kozik said quietly as he handed Caiden a beer.
Kozik turned around to meet Lana head on, eyebrow raised and hands on hips. "Really? She asked.
"The kid is 13. He's old enough to have his first beer." He said. When he didn't get a response, he continued. "It's kind of an important day. Let him celebrate it like the rest of us."
"He's not even old enough to drive a car yet and you're giving him alcohol." Lana argued.
"That's ridiculous. He'll have a bike, not a car." Kozik said.
"Jesus Christ!" Lana threw her hands up in the air, simultaneously rolling her eyes and turning away. She would never win.
Gemma watched her family from the doorway of the small kitchen in the clubhouse. Her heart was full of pride today with two of her boys becoming fully patched members. Sure they weren't her sons, but she'd known them and helped care for them since the day they were born and she cared for them just the same. She watched them enter the chapel and sit at the redwood with Jax, Happy, and Chibs and she smiled.
Glancing across the bar she saw Kate and Abel joking around. Perhaps no one else saw it, but she did. The way Abel looked at her. Happy and Kozik would be thrilled when they figured it out. She was sure Happy would try to wring Abel's neck.
She caught site of Caiden taking a swig of his beer and Lana watching him closely as he did so. Gemma smiled again. She could tell Lana was trying to keep her baby a baby for as long as she could. He was her last one and now the only boy who wasn't an official club member. She knew how it was to be the mother of a Son. You worried for them in a different way than your old man.
Kozik wrapped his arms around Lana from behind and she relaxed into him after a moment and Gemma felt at peace. She only had a few more months. Her heart was finally giving out and she was worried for her family, her club, but seeing how well Lana fit into the club, how well she'd taken on her role of old lady over the years, Gemma felt confident she would do just fine. SAMCRO would have a new queen.
