Walking out into the snow, Sam balanced the bags of salt and the ice pic and rope. With a sigh of relief he saw that the sleigh was still there and what looked like a small fire burned in the barn next to the shop. Walking up slowly to the barn door Sam listened to the two talking to one another.
"You know you didn't have to be so rude Gabe," Char snapped, "this is the only trading post between here and the north mountain."
"Well sorry Charlie." Gabe retorted rustling around in what sounded like hay.
"How are we supposed to get up there now?! You need to learn to keep your big mouth closed." Charlie said then Sam walked in. Charlie was sitting up glaring at the other man who was across from her; she had bits of hay sticking out of her hair. Gabe sat up glaring at Sam obviously not trusting him.
"What do you want?" Gabe asked eyeing Sam.
"You guys need these to get up to the north Mountain," Sam explained holding up the goods, "And I need a ride. We all want this snow to stop and I know how."
"How do you know how to stop it?" Charlie asked crossing her legs and turning to stare at Sam.
"My brother creates the things that have started all this snow and all I need to do is talk to him and he would stop it for me if I asked." Sam explained.
Gabe's eyebrows shot up, "Your brother is creating all those Sand human wing things?"
"Yes. And as soon as I talk to my brother and you get me home you will both be compensated for getting me there and back." Sam replied quickly.
"That would definitely help with our job," Charlie murmured to Gabe then said to Sam, "When do you want to leave?"
"I would like to leave now." Sam replied
"How do we know you can compensate us?" Gabe asked squinting at Sam.
"Cause I'm Prince Sam, and my brother is King Dean." Sam replied. Charlie's and Gabe's mouths popped open.
"Alright let's go!" Charlie exclaimed jumping up and grabbing the stuff from Sam.
"Charlie!" Gabe exclaimed but she had already left to put everything into the sleigh.
"I really appreciate this." Sam said standing awkwardly in the barn with Gabe.
"It's to help us." Gabe replied shrugging his shoulders.
"How does it help you?" Sam asked finding himself unable to look away from the smaller man's golden eyes.
"We sell ice for a living. And this is when we really sell it. Without this we are out of money." Gabe replied getting to his feet and walking further into the barn and leading out a reindeer.
"Will he be able to pull all three of us?" Sam asked following Gabe outside.
"Easy, Char put the fire out please," Gabe called and strapped the reindeer to the front of the sleigh, "He carries Charlie, myself and about 500 pounds of ice."
"Wow." Sam said clambering into the back of the sleigh.
"You can sit up front Sam." Charlie said walking back to them.
"Oh, Uh…. Thanks." Sam smiled and clambered back to the front of it.
"Quick introduction," Charlie said from the back leaning forward between Sam and Gabe who was just climbing into the sleigh, "I'm Charlie but I prefer to be called Char. It's easier to say. I also have a wife at home so don't even try anything," She smiled, "And this is Gabriel who prefers Gabriel unless he really trusts you and he is single and ready to mingle." Sam couldn't help but laugh and laughed even harder when he saw the sour look on Gabriel's face.
"Don't worry," Sam said whipping a tear from his eye, "I won't try anything with either of you. I'm engaged."
"Engaged? Since when?" Gabe asked ushering the reindeer forward.
"Someone is obsessed." Charlie giggled. Sam felt himself blush.
"Am not." Gabriel snapped back his cheeks going red.
"That's actually why this whole thing started," Sam admitted looking down in his lap shivering slightly as more snow fell on him.
"What do you mean?" Charlie asked looking sideways at Sam.
"Well I met this guy, Named Balthazar, and we got engaged today and we went to my brother for like his blessing and he got all angry saying I didn't know what love is and I couldn't marry him. So I went after him to try to make him understand and I pulled his glove off and he got all worried and this huge thing erupted into existence. After that he ran and I chased him trying to let him know he wasn't alone and no matter what those things where he wasn't alone. He ended up in my room and made a whole bunch of the human sand wing things." Sam explained running out of breath near the end of his story another shiver running down his spine his ankles freezing cause of the damned pants.
"Here." Gabriel said pulling his hat off and handing it over to Sam, "How long have you known Balthazar?"
"Yea I understand people freaking out about short span times together. Meg and I only knew each other for four months before we got married." Charlie interjected sweeping her bright red hair behind her ears.
"Thanks." Sam said to Gabriel, "And I've known him for a day. But I've never felt anything like it."
"A DAY!" Gabriel and Charlie exclaimed together.
"How do you know if you love him? Do you even know his last name or his favorite food?" Gabriel asked looking astonished.
"Do you even know if the way he eats will bug you or even his shoe size?" Charlie asked the reassuring smile that she had with Sam a few seconds ago was now gone.
"What about his eye color?" Gabriel added.
"Last name Of the Southern eyles? Favorite food is sandwiches," Sam replied rolling his eyes and ticking his answers off on his fingers, "Eyes are so dreamy, how he eats will never bug me, and I don't need to know his shoe size." Sam relied
"That doesn't tell us how you know you love him." Gabriel replied his eyes darting around them now.
"I don't have to explain much but I just know he is dreamy so attentive gives me everything I need and more. And I don't need you to make me-" Sam retorted feeling hurt.
"Sush." Charlie said waving her hand.
"Excuse me?" Sam asked as the sleigh came to a stop.
"Be quiet." Gabriel hissed
"What is that?" Sam whispered seeing two yellow glowing eyes to his left.
"Wolves. Go Sphen!" Gabriel yelled. With a jolt the sleigh flew forward wolves chasing them. "Take this." Gabriel handed over the reins to Charlie who was clambering to the front. Turning around determined to help, Sam grabbed at a large stick as Gabriel lit a similar one on fire.
"What do you think," Gabriel asked between gritted teeth as he batted off wolf, "You are doing?"
"Helping!" Sam exclaimed in exhilaration as he swung at a wolf as well sending it rolling back into the snow.
"I don't need your help! Nor do I want it from someone who is marrying someone who he doesn't even know." Gabriel snapped.
"IT'S TRUE LOVE!" Sam yelled swinging at Gabriel who ducked just in time to not be hit in the face and sending another wolf flying.
"Gabe!" Charlie yelled pointing the huge chasm that they were getting closer and closer to.
"We are going to have to jump." Sam said in a sudden realization.
"I know! Please don't tell me what to do!" Gabriel said exasperated. Clambering back to the front, Gabriel grabbed Charlie around the waist and threw her forward onto the reindeer. And with a jolt deep in his belly Sam felt himself be thrown onto the reindeer as well. Then what felt like his belly was in his thought they jumped. Charlie was clinging to the reindeer and Sam clung to her. Looking back he saw Gabriel launch himself off the sleigh. As the reindeer landed safely, Sam scrambled off and saw in horror that Gabriel was clinging to the snow and slowly sliding down towards the bottom. Grabbing the rope and ice pick from Charlie's bag he threw it to Gabriel who glug to it.
"Hold on!" Sam called to Gabriel then to Charlie, "Please help me." They both pulled Gabriel up off the ledge.
With a gulp Sam and Charlie both walked up to a panting Gabriel. "I understand if you guys don't want to take me to the north mountain anymore. When I get home I will make sure that you guys get a new sleigh." With that Sam turned around and walked slightly confused on which way he was supposed to be going and could hear the conversation between Charlie and Gabriel.
"Are we really going to let him wander off alone?" Charlie asked
"Why should we help him though Charlie. We almost died because of him." Gabriel grumbled.
"That was with us," Charlie said, "We won't get a new sleigh if he wanders off by himself. He doesn't even know which way to go."
With a grown Gabriel called, "Wait up, we're coming."
"You are?" Sam exclaimed happily, "I mean yea of course you can tag along." With a laugh from Charlie they got up and caught up to Sam.
"The North Mountain is that way." Charlie giggled pointing the complete opposite direction that Sam had been walking.
