First off I apologize that it has been so long since I have updated this story but I have been in a writers block for this. Hope you don't hate me for that! I want to thank you all who have been reading this story and I hope you enjoy

Chapter 21

Nervously Jaken paced his Lord's study; he knew that Sesshomaru noticed the other demon glancing his way. In truth Jaken did know the man but only because he used to serve him. He had no wish to return to that evil man, yes Sesshomaru could be cruel but he wasn't heartless like his last master. He felt boxed in waiting for Lord Sesshomaru he thought about running away but that would no doubt make him look guilty. Yes he was in some ways but only because he didn't want to see the Taisho line tainted with human let alone a Miko. It was bad enough that Inuyasha existed.

Just then Sesshomaru burst through the door slamming it shut behind him. Jaken looked down unable to bring himself to look him in the eye. It was going to be a long night that was for sure. He was going to be tortured and questioned and there would be no point in lying he would know being an Inu youkai.

"Jaken you know why you are here save yourself the pain and tell me what I want to know." He commanded.

"Yes milord. That man in there his name is Erai he is my old master. He's a panther demon, he only wants power and now that the Miko is a demon mix he will try to claim her. I beg you milord I have nothing to do with him anymore! Let him take her and be done with him!" Jaken cried at his feet.

Sesshomaru kicked him off him sending him across the room. He was outraged that he would suggest that he would get rid of his future mate. Stalking across the room he picked him up by his neck and held him against the wall. Squeezing his throat slightly making it almost impossible for him to breathe, Jaken frantically gasped for air.

"She will be going nowhere and you do well to remember that."

"Yes milord." He said after Sesshomaru dropped him to the floor.

"Now I will give you a chance to redeem yourself and make yourself useful."

"Anything!"

"Figure out what his plans are, then return." He went to scurry away tripping over his feet. "Oh and Jaken."

"Y-yes?"

"Do not return until you have completed your task." He gulped at thought of having to return to his old life and vowed on his life he would not fail his Lord.

"Sesshomaru?" Kagome asked searching the castle grounds. She ran into Lord Hikaru, literally making her fall to the floor. Caught off guard but the sudden attack he failed catch her.

"Lady Kagome, forgive me I was deep in thought."

"Oh that's alright, have you seen Sesshomaru?"

"I cannot say that I have."

"Oh, well thank you." She went to side step him but was stopped when he was in front of her yet again.

"Would you take a walk through the garden with me?"

"I don't know if…" But stopped mid-sentence when she saw Koga coming her way and agreed pulling him in the direction of the gardens.

Once they reached the garden's they sat down on the nearest bench. The night air was warm but had a nice cool breeze which made Kagome sigh contentedly. She looked everywhere but at Hikaru feeling slightly wrong for being alone with another man.

"Kagome, I wished to apologize for my earlier actions to you. As you may know we all have a demon side to us that we keep caged and mine broke free from me and I cannot begin to say how sorry I am."

"I forgive you." She told him finally looking at him. He breathed a sigh of relief.

"Thank you, even if I am undeserving of your forgiveness."

"Don't mention it."

"Alright, there is another matter I had wished to discuss with you. I hope you will hear me out."

"What's up?"

"Well my beast seems quite attached to you and I was wondering if there is the slightest chance that I were to win if you would consider me to be your mate."

"Lord Hikaru…"

"Hikaru." He corrected.

"Hikaru, I have no doubt in my mind that Sesshomaru will win. I'm sorry that I have caused you any hurt but I will either have him or no one at all."

"I see, and there is no way to change your mind?"

"No, I am sorry."

"I'm a patient man; if you change your mind my offer will remain open." She didn't answer to this only smiled at him. She kissed his cheek in a friendly matter and walked away. All the while unknowing who was lurking in the shadows.
