-DEAN-
Dean tore out into the blizzard storm though the hole his tall guard had created. The wind and snow lashed across his face. He threw one arm up trying to shield himself as best he could from the snow and trudged forward. He needed to get away. If he could just get away he could get his emotions under control the blizzard would stop. His heart would stop hurting; everything would go back to how it should be.
Dean heard a voice carrying to him over the howl of the wind, "Dean! You can't run from this!" dean turned around his bright green eyes landing on Ruby. The wind swirled around her pulling her hair away from her face.
"What are you doing out here?" Dean called back watching her walk slowly forward towards him
"You need to know about your brother!" she called back a look Dean couldn't quite read on her face.
"If I need to know anything about my brother," Dean said taking a few steps back the closer that Ruby got to him, "Balthazar could tell me."
A small sad smile came to Ruby's red lips then, "Balthazar is inconsolable. He is refusing to leave Sam's... He returned from the mountain burning up like a furnace and week. His hair was almost completely red. He said your magic attacked his heart. Balthazar tried to save him, but it was too late."
"No." Dean whispered to himself his heart feeling like it was ripping itself to shreds inside his chest.
-SAM-
Sam and Castiel stumbled clumsily through the snow, and fought against the storm raging around them.
"What way were they coming from?" Sam called to Castiel
"That way." Castiel called back pointing over to the iced over lake. Sam nodded and began to stagger onto the ice.
"Gabe!" Sam called somewhat desperately into the storm. He looked down at his hands the tips of his fingers to his knuckles a clear blue ice, with shards of ice flowering off from his knuckles. He clutched his hands close to his chest and pushed forward calling out Gabe's name every few minutes till he heard his own name being carried back to him very faintly.
"Sam! I hear you! I'm coming for you!" Gabe's voice called. "I'm sorry I ever left you!"
Sam smiled and pushed forward as fast as he could. He could feel the slow loss of feeling continuing in his hands like a poison as well and it starting to spread on his feet and the middle of his stomach.
-DEAN-
"Your brother is dead Dean," Ruby told him, "Because of you."
"No!" Dean yelled that time feeling the grief rip though him sending him to his knees. All the snow stopped moving all at once. Everything was still and calm as Dean cried wanting to curl into a small ball.
-SAM-
Sam stared around in amazement as he lost complete feeling in his hands up to his wrists. Looking straight ahead he could see Gabe and Anna in the distance, and slightly closer to his left lay Dean curled in a ball crying and Ruby standing behind him. In her left hand she held a long sword that she took in both hands. She rose it getting ready to strike and kill Dean.
"I'm sorry!" Sam called to the running forms headed his way, and then yelled, "Dean!" as he turned and ran to protect his brother. He didn't care if he died. He got himself between Ruby and Dean, stuck his arm up to stop the swinging of the blade and everything went dark and cold.
-DEAN-
Dean looked behind him in sudden shock and horror. He saw Ruby fly back onto the ice he head hitting it quite hard. Sam stood like a frozen statue made of ice.
"Sam," Dean said quietly taking his brothers face between his two hands. "Oh Sam I'm so sorry for shitting you out. I want nothing more than to experience life with you. I'd love to build a snow man and cut your hair whenever you asked. It's because I cared for you that I hid from you and now you took the fall." Tears were streaming down Dean's face as Gabe Charlie and Castiel came into Dean's peripheral view. "I wanted nothing more than to protect you, now look at you frozen by my own hands. I've always just wanted to hold you close and open my door because I loved you most. Just give me that chance one more time please." Dean begged wrapping his arms around Sam's frozen body and crying in earnest.
"Sam." Gabe said quietly taking a few more steps forward staring in disbelief at the frozen man in front of him.
Starting from his chest out Dean stared in wonder at his brother as the ice fell away from his brother's body until Sam sagged slightly in Dean's arms.
"Sam!" Both Dean and Gabe explained happily.
-SAM-
Sam let his arm fall a small smile on his face as he pulled his brother into a tight hug, "Dean." He closed his eyes hugging him tighter.
Dean pulled away slightly, "You were willing to give up your life for me?"
"Of course you're my brother. I love you. I would do anything for you." Sam replied letting Dean go
"An act of true love will release a frozen heart." Castiel said a huge knowing smile on his lips as he stepped closer to Dean.
"Love." Dean murmured looking down at his own hands.
"Dean?" Sam asked a huge goofy smile on his lips.
"I can control it with love." Dean answered looking excited. He held his arms out on either side of him and all around them the snow swirled up and away. Within a few minutes all the snow and ice had gone and melted away. They stood on a ship.
"I always knew you could do it." Sam smiled but it faltered when Ruby stood up holding her head.
"I thought you died," She grumbled at Sam her eyes throwing daggers at him and Dean.
"Looks like you were wrong." Sam growled back at her
Gabe took an aggressive step towards her but Carlie beat to Ruby as he punched her again making her fall back on the deck knocked out cold.
"How come your magic doesn't affect me?" Castiel asked walking around Sam to stand next to Dean.
"Because you are a creation, a mighty handsome one I might add. I don't control you, you have a mind of your own." Dean replied and Sam saw Dean take in a sharp breath and his cheeks get slightly pink.
"I think I could be alright with that." Castiel answered a smile on his lips as he reached out tentatively to take Dean's hand in his.

Sam Dean and Castiel stood out in the towns square watching people leave, watching Ruby being escorted into a cop transportation car and just enjoying the sun.
"So when is your boyfriend supposed to be here?" Dean teased his arms wrapped around Castiel's stomach.
"He should be here," Sam looked down at the watch on his wrist, "In about five minutes." Dean nodded planting a kiss on Castiels cheek.
"Why are you so clingy Dean-o?" Gabe's voice called out a smile on his lips around the lollypop stick that was hanging from his lips.
"You need to watch it Gabe, I could tell you that you can't date Sammy." Dean warned.
"But that would be cruel," Lucifer chimed in walking hand in hand with Balthazar to them. Dark bruises still lay like a patch work quilt across his face, "Sam actually loves him."
"Yeah don't remind me." Dean joked smiling at the two new comers.
Sam on the other hand felt his neck and face burn; Gabe intertwined his fingers with Sam's, "it's alright my lovely Sasquatch, I love you too." Sam couldn't help but lean down and kiss the man.
"You better get used to life like this Sam," Dean said as Sam rested his arms on Gabe's shoulders.
"What do you mean?" Sam asked a silly grin on his still bright red face.
"The gates aren't going to close. They will always remain open." Dean smiled over to his brother, "And I know this because of you." Sam couldn't help but smile at his brother. Everything wouldn't always be perfect, but there was hope for a future. Hope for a future that included Dean in his life. Hope for a future with Gabe, and hope for a future of happiness.
