Okay, third part of this arc. There are like...two or three left. Probably closer to three, but I'm honestly not sure, it depends on what happens. I've got one more chapter written as of this moment, but the rest will be knocked out soon! Also, I totally have reasons as to why I did pre-Guardians Peter, there are vague plans in the future. Very highly vague plans.
In this chapter: Peter and Jack meet!
Jack pressed his forehead against the cold stone, attempting to call the wind to his aid. It refused to respond though, not that he expected it to. He was human now, his magic wasn't working. He couldn't even manage a snowflake.
He gave a long sigh and settled back next to Bruce. The doctor was shivering, and Jack moved closer in an attempt to share body heat. He was cold too, but was used to it. Just because he could withstand it before didn't mean he didn't feel it.
"A-a-a-any luck?" Bruce stuttered, teeth chattering with the cold, and Jack shook his head.
"Nothing. I have no magic." His voice was defeated, he knew it. He had no magic, which meant he was useless. He was supposed to be a Guardian, but he couldn't even get one man away from the frost giants. If he could just summon the wind, anything, he could get them out. Or not be totally defenseless. He flexed his hands, missing the solidness of his staff. It had been with him for 300 years. It was a part of him now.
"Hey, it's going to be-" Bruce was cut off by the entry of one of their captors. Even as Jack rose to instinctively stand between the giant and Bruce, he had to wonder if this was what Loki looked like when he wasn't normal.
"Who are you? Why did you take us?" Jack demanded, only to be pushed aside as the giant grabbed Bruce and began dragging him out. Jack could only watch in muted horror until it was too late.
The door clanged shut.
Loki had not wanted to bring all of Thor's friends along. They would only slow things down, especially as they knew nothing of where they were going. But they insisted, and honestly, there was no time to argue with them. As it was, he felt they took far too much time to get ready and gather at the Bifrost site. Perhaps his pathway would have been easier, but he also wanted to save his energy.
Which was why the group was now standing in the barrenness of Jotunheim. Perhaps they would do for cannon fodder at least. Especially Stark, he would do quite well, if he would possibly shut up for long enough. The Captain may be disgustingly moral, but at least he knew how to hold his tongue at times. Stark was giving a running commentary as they walked towards the castle, complaining about the cold and discomfort and everything he could think of.
"We must be cautious." He broke in, voice soft as they neared the castle ruins. "Charging in yelling like buffoons will only get us killed. Or start a war." He said the last directed at Thor, who at least had the grace to look sheepish.
"There are a number of secret entrances, but I would say some of us should stay outside. Myself, Thor, Hawk, and Widow will likely be enough." He chose Thor only because the oaf knew Jotunheim nearly as well as he. It was not because he wanted him by his side while going into danger like this, near the monsters that were like him.
Except he wasn't a monster. Was he? Everyone seemed to have their own opinions, and even he didn't know sometimes. And now wasn't the time to think of it.
He squared his shoulders as they began walking towards the castle. He had a beast and annoying winter spirit to rescue.
It felt like hours later when the door swung open again and Jack scrambled to his feet. This time the only sign of their captors was a large blue hand as it shoved a complaining man inside the room.
"Seriously, I'm just trying to ask directions! Don't you speak the language? Krylor! Krylor, I'm trying to get to Krylor." The door clanged shut again, and Jack eyed the man. When he turned around though, there was some sort of mask covering his face, with red glowing eyes.
"What are you?" Jack asked curiously, taking a step back. Theā¦.thing's hand came up and pressed something on the side of the mask and folded back to reveal a normal human face, something that Jack was grateful for.
"Peter Quill. Maybe you know me as Star-Lord?" Jack's blank look must have discouraged him, because he gave a defeated sigh.
"Right. Well, you got any idea where we are? Because my ship's navigation is crap, apparently. I'm supposed to be on Krylor." Jack took a moment to wonder where or what Krylor was before he answered.
"Where's Krylor? And those are frost giants, so I guess this is Jotunheim. I'm Jack, by the way." He introduced, wondering what to do now. Maybe the guy had a way to get out.
"Frost giants? Shit, I'm in Asgardian territory, aren't I? Shit, no one's supposed to fly out here. Where are you from?" Peter asked, and Jack had to take a moment to answer. Asgardian territory? He hadn't though they ruled over more than their own planet. And wasn't this guy from Earth? He didn't look anything like an alien. Even his clothes were normal.
"Um, Earth?" Peter's eyes went wide.
"Really? Terrans have space technology now?"
Infiltrating the castle had been simple. He and Thor had gone one way, the Hawk and Widow the other, after being cautioned to not allow the giants to touch them. Asgardians were able to heal it easily, but he was sure that the mortals would be far weaker against the frozen touch.
Now he and the oaf were moving down a hallway towards the center of the castle. Because obviously his own creativity was unique to both species, and they had no other place to hold prisoners. It would be pathetic if there weren't the magic sensors in place.
Those were the worst part. Normally when doing something like this, he would cloak them in an invisibility spell, or alter their appearance. But the Jotuun were smarter than they appeared, and apparently quite talented at magic. He had felt them as soon as he entered, spells in place to tell their castors whether or not someone else was using magic inside the castle. It would only make this harder to use magic, which meant his options were limited.
He just hoped they could find the place they were keeping the two soon. He needed off this planet.
