Hey everyone! Another chapter up! I've changed this one up quite a bit from the original, but I think you'll like the changes... Anyways, I hope you enjoy! :)
(Disclaimer: I do not own Doctor Who. Only my OC, Phoenix.)
Phoenix appeared face-down on a very hard and cold floor. She groaned. Not the ideal landing at all. She slowly sat up, propping herself on her elbows. She looked around at her surroundings, only to see Amy crying, Rory in a roman outfit comforting her, and the 11th Doctor looking sadly at her, before glancing in Phoenix's direction and noticing her. He went over and helped her up, and Phoenix smiled at him.
"Number?" He asked. She frowned sadly. Damn it, still early. "Four." She replied, glancing over to Amy again.
The Doctor drooped slightly, but still was considerably happier than when Phoenix first got here. Just as he did that, she realized which episode this was. She frowned harder. Damn it, not now.
"This is demon's run, isn't it? I arrived just after the battle." Phoenix mentioned, looking around the room again. The Doctor just nods. She frowns sadly.
She absolutely loved the episode Demon's Run back in her universe, but of course, it made her quite sad to watch it. Being here though, in person, made it worse. It's the reality that Amy and Rory actually lost their daughter, that they actually lost the battle, that the Doctor found out Melody wasn't exactly human. It's depressing, sad, heartbreaking.
"Demons run when a good man goes to war. Night will fall and drown the sun when a good man goes to war. Friendship dies and true love lies, the night will fall and the dark will rise, when a good man goes to war. Demons run, but count the cost. The battle's won but the child is lost." Phoenix recited, gazing sadly at Amy as she did. She had just lost her child for the second time. Even if her child would be here soon, Amy didn't know that. Phoenix thought she would be really upset if it happened to her.
"What's that from?" The Doctor asked quietly. She shrugged her shoulders.
"It's a quote." Phoenix said slyly, not giving away anything. She decided early on she wasn't going to tell The Doctor about Doctor Who. Ever. Just make it an all knowing power thing.
He sighed deeply. "You always avoid my questions."
"Within good reason." Phoenix retorted, still looking over at Amy. She genuinely looked distressed and sad. Poor Amy.
He just rolled his eyes. Phoenix crossed her arms. "Do you know where we find Melody?" He asked, staring directly at her with that gaze of his. The serious one.
"Yes." Phoenix said plainly. Again, not telling him anything at all.
"Well?" The Doctor questioned, basically asking her to go on.
"But I can't tell you of course. That would ruin the surprise." Phoenix finished, frowning slightly as The Doctor slumped. She went up and wrapped her arms around him, trying to comfort him.
"Hey, wait a second. You do find her you know. I'm just not saying when." Phoenix said, giving a hopeful smile to the Doctor. But it didn't reach her eyes.
Just then, River, or should we say Melody, flashed in with a pop. I took a deep breath and let go of the Doctor, to let him interact with Melody.
"Well then soldier. How goes the day?" River asks, smirking slightly at The Doctor.
"Where the hell have you been? Every time you've asked, I have been there. Where the hell were you today?" The Doctor rages at River. Phoenix sighed. That's Melody Doctor. She couldn't have come.
"Doctor, you should bloody well calm down." Phoenix muttered to The Doctor, but got ignored like always. She sighed.
"I couldn't have prevented this." River said, rolling her eyes at The Doctor.
"You could have tried!" The Doctor exclaimed, waving his hands about.
"And so, my love, could you." River said, then she turned toward Amy. "I know you're not all right. But hold tight, Amy, because you're going to be."
"You think I wanted this? I didn't do this. This, this wasn't me!" The Doctor exclaimed, eyes going wide and getting angrier.
"This was exactly you." River and Phoenix said at the same time, but Phoenix was smirking while River had a serious expression on her face.
"You make them so afraid. When you began, all those years ago, sailing off to see the universe, did you ever think you'd become this? The man who can turn an army around at the mention of his name. Doctor. The word for healer and wise man throughout the universe. We get that word from you, you know. But if you carry on the way you are, what might that word come to mean? To the people of the Gamma Forests, the word Doctor means mighty warrior. How far you've come. And now they've taken a child, the child of your best friends, and they're going to turn her into a weapon just to bring you down. And all this, my love, in fear of you." River said sadly.
"Who are you?" The Doctor asked, finally getting to the real question.
Phoenix stood on her tiptoes so she could reach The Doctor's ear "Someone you know very well." She whispered.
"Oh look, you cot. Haven't seen that in a very long while." River says, as she giddily walks over to the Doctor's cot. It was a simple wooden cot, with copper stars and planets hanging down. On the side, there was golden gallifreyan encrypted on the side that looked strangely familiar to Phoenix. It felt as if she had some special connection to the words.
But how? She couldn't even read them, for god's sake! Why did she feel drawn to them? Phoenix squatted down as the two others talked, and brushed her hand against the encryptions. A tingling feeling ran up her hand, through her arm, and spread to her whole body. Phoenix squirmed slightly, not liking the feeling too much.
Phoenix stared at the gallifreyan words, wondering what they meant. She remembered, back in her universe, many people believed it was the Doctor's name on the side of the cot. She wasn't exactly sure herself. Why put someone's name on the side of their cot? Ok, that was a stupid question. But Phoenix wasn't really too positive it was the Doctor's name on the cot. She wasn't sure why though, she just had a gut feeling about it.
Someone grabbed her hand, and she was pulled backwards across the ground toward the Tardis. Phoenix growled lowly. She really didn't like being pulled. She stumbled up onto her feet and walked after The Doctor, the one that had been pulling her.
Phoenix closed the Doctor, who had immediately gone over to the console to start flying. Phoenix hadn't been inside this Tardis before, so she stared around the desktop.
The walls were orangey-yellow with little circles with lights on them. The console had stairs going up to it, and the floor was a transparent glass. The console was quite messy, a little tidier than 10's however. It used a lot more… interesting things in the console. Like a typewriter, and a pinball machine. A pinball machine! Where the hell did he think that up? Anyways, the time rotor in the middle was glowing a faint blue color, and moving up and down making that grinding noise everyone loved.
Phoenix stumbled up the stairs, still somewhat disoriented. God, talk about the element of surprise. The Doctor was a genius with it then...
"So, you knew it was her?" The Doctor questions as he pulls the lever to send them into the vortex.
Phoenix sighed. This was bound to end up bad. "Yes, I did. But I couldn't have done anything about it." She said, a tiny bit of irritation shining in her voice. By now, he should have gotten the term FIXED POINT.
"You could have tried." The Doctor growled, exactly how he said it to River.
"No, I really couldn't have. Do you know what happens if you try to change fixed points?" Phoenix said, more irritation slipping through her voice. Come on Doctor, are you really not going to understand at this point?
"I really don't enjoy when my friends get hurt." The Doctor said, really darkly. She was actually slightly frightened of him. Phoenix afraid of the Doctor. Wasn't he supposed to love her? She immediately made a new goal; getting out of the console room, and avoid the Oncoming Storm.
"Whatever you have to say, stop there. There really wasn't anything I could do. I didn't even arrive before ten minutes ago! And if you're saying it to brief my future self, well, I've already done it, so it's fixed. Plus frankly, I would have ignored you anyways. I'll leave you to… brood over the subject. It's my first time being in this Tardis actually, I want to explore." Phoenix says, turning around and walking out of the console room, leaving The Doctor standing there in the dust.
Phoenix wandered through the hallways endlessly, finding many rooms to be interesting. At one point, she had found the library. Saying it was massive was an understatement. It wouldn't be surprising if The Doctor had all the books throughout time and space stuffed into this one library. Phoenix skimmed through about five bookshelves, before giving up on a hopeless case. Just those five bookshelves took about twenty minutes to go through. Each. Phoenix shrugged her shoulders, and walked out of the library, continuing on her journey through the maze of hallways.
Phoenix wandered to a very curious door in the middle of an empty hallway. It was made of old wood, unlike the other doors in the Tardis. There was some more gallifreyan on it, though instead of gold it was encrypted in a sparkling orange. She brushed her fingers across it, and the same tingling feeling came over her as before. This gallifreyan also felt familiar to her, although why still remained a mystery to her.
Her curiosity took over her, and she twisted the brass knob of the door and pushed the door open, the hinges making creaking sounds as she did. Whoever this room belonged to, they hadn't been in there for a long time. What was inside however, explained everything. Phoenix's mouth dropped open in shock.
Inside the room, was a perfect replica of Gallifrey. Everything from the red-orange grass to the two shining suns above. Phoenix covered her mouth in shock. It was perfect. Around her, was the most beautiful sight she had ever seen. The reddish-orange grass was dotted with bright red flowers than shone out against the grass, making the grass seem probably more orange than it actually was. Not far away from her, was a crystal lake. It was surrounded by small boulders and lilies were floating on top the water, making it seem like a perfect romantic spot. Not far away was a forest, a silver forest in fact. The tree's silver leaves were blowing to the right with the wind, with some of them occasionally flying off the tree and onto the ground. Far off in the distance, were mountains as high as the clouds, peaked with the white of snow. The two suns shone down, creating a brilliant light dancing across the grass, reflecting an almost golden color all around Phoenix.
She sunk to her knees into the grass, just too shocked at the beauty. It was dazzling, marvelous, fantastic. There were just simply no words to describe the kind of beauty shone in front of Phoenix's eyes. A few tears fell down her face. Phoenix couldn't explain it, but an immense sadness exploded inside of her heart. It was as if she was connected to Gallifrey in some way, and seeing an exact copy of it was just too much, it was heartbreaking. Phoenix closed her eyes, and a vision flashed before her eyes.
Phoenix was walking through a path inside the silver forest, the leaves falling around her and into her hair. Theta, her new boyfriend, had told her to meet him here. It was late at night, and the silence was starting to get to Phoenix. What if… there was something in the forest? What would happen to her? She couldn't die now! She was doing so well in the academy… even if she didn't want to be. She was making her parents proud? Phoenix sighed. Her life sucked, except for her brother and Theta. They were the only people that motivated her enough to keep going on. Else… well, she wasn't sure where she would be. The cracking of sticks brought her to her senses, and she jerked around, looking frantically into the dark of the forest. Oh god, oh god, oh god. She could hear something moving inside the forest. She backed up slightly, but ran into something soft that covered her eyes with its hands. She screamed, scared. But then she heard laughing, and stopped. That was Theta's laugh, she could recognize it anywhere. That idiot! Scaring her like that! She sighed, and smiled, turning around and pecking her boyfriend on the lips. She could forgive him… for now.
Phoenix jerked up, and turning to look at the forest toward the left. That was the exact forest in the vision. The exact one. She could just tell! The gut instincts today… She stood up slowly, turning toward the forest. Should she go explore? What was the harm? It's not like this was an actual planet with terrifying creatures out to kill you. That couldn't happen in the Tardis… could it? Well, actually, Journey to the Center of the Tardis…
Phoenix shrugged, and started walking in the direction of the forest. Who cares, at this point? If she got killed, at least it was in the Tardis where the Doctor could find her body. That was a really deep and creepy thought.
Phoenix jumped up and grabbed a leaf, pulling it down from the tree. It felt all so real. Like it wasn't just a room generated from the Tardis. But how could it be? Phoenix stared at the leaf, leaning against the bark of the tree. The leaf reminded of the most important lead in history, except it was silver. And nowhere near as important. It was just a simple silver leaf. Like her. Phoenix sank down to the ground, pulling her knees up to her chest.
What was Phoenix actually, what was her point in the Doctor's timeline? She wasn't important, she wasn't smart, she wasn't cute. She had no purpose here. She just wanted to go home…
That broke it. Her mask she had kept up since she had gotten here shattered, and her tears came flooding out. She chocked out a loud sob, the only thing muffling it was her knees. She would never get to see her family again… Her mother, father, brother, friends, all gone now. She couldn't ever go back. Travel between parallel universes were impossible normally, it was crazy enough that she got in. Going back? That was never happening. She was stuck here, for good.
Phoenix raised her head as she felt something wet drop onto her leg. It had begun to rain around her, and she frowned. It must have a low level telepathic field around it… meaning her feelings affected the weather. It would be salt water rain. Just like in the episode, 'The Snowmen'.
Now she had another problem on top of her others. Great. How was she going to get back? She obviously couldn't walk in this rain without getting soaking wet! There was only one solution… to stop crying.
But how? The tears still flew down her cheeks, creating a never-ending waterfall. It was weird… she wasn't even exactly depressingly sad anymore, she had shoved it all to the back of her mind and locked it up. Tightly. So why was she crying? Phoenix wiped the tears off her face, and looked up at the sky, at the orangish grey clouds above. Maybe it had something to do with being here? So getting wet would be unavoidable.
Phoenix sighed. Well, here goes nothing. She stepped out of the shadow of the tree, instantly getting soaked. There went her cool dress. She quickly ran over to the wooden door, which was actually just a door in mid-air, and turned the knob quickly, pushing it open and stepping out of the room. Phoenix sighed in relief as she got out of the freezing cold rain. Now, time for the hard part.
To find her room and get out of the soaking wet dress that was now sticking in to her body. Oh god, if the Doctor saw her now…
Phoenix mentally slapped herself. No thinking those thoughts! Those are saved for writing fanfictions… well, they used to be. Now what was she going to do with them…? Phoenix sighed, giving up on her mind entirely. She swore sometimes that it had a mind of its own.
She hobbled down the corridor, really hoping the Tardis moved her room closer. Luckily, the Tardis was on her side, and when she went around the corner saw a door that said 'La salle du Phoenix', which meant 'the room of the Phoenix'. She smiled at that. It meant it was her room. She slowly opened the door, the cringes making a slight creaking sound. Her eyes went wide and her mouth dropped open at the sight of what was inside.
First off, the walls were Tardis blue with golden swirls all around. There were a couple paintings and posters, including the exploding Tardis painting. The floor was an amazing golden carpet. In one corner, her bed was a nice black wood, with the covers a golden color, and the drapes around it Tardis blue. The wardrobe and nightstand both were the same black wood, as well as the bookshelves in another corner, which looked as if it held all of her favorite books. There was a Tardis blue beanbag near it. In another corner, there was a black wooden desk with her laptop from the other universe and all of her art supplies on it. Her watch was also on that desk.
Phoenix smiled brightly. This was her perfect room! And then she looked up, and gasped. The ceiling was basically the night sky. Planets and stars and constellations and galaxies all viewed from her ceiling. It looked magical, mystical, impossible! But there it was.
Phoenix stepped over toward the wardrobe, cursing herself for being so wet. It was ruining the beautiful carpet! She pulled open the wardrobe doors to reveal quite a selection of outfits, all from different eras. She skimmed through them all, smiling as she did. A dress from the 1800's, a cute outfit from the 3000's, a rather… skimpy… outfit from the 4000's, and so on and so forth. After quite a bit of laughing at what was available in her wardrobe, she pulled out the perfect outfit. Black button-up short sleeve shirt, blue sweater, black skirt, and blue converse, with a necklace that had a little clock on it. Phoenix twirled in the mirror and grinned. Perfect.
Now, for the problem of making sure the Doctor wasn't mad at her… That would be tricky. She wasn't exactly sure if he was or not, and she didn't exactly want to take the risk if he was…
Well, she never had to make a decision. Phoenix looked down just as her hands started glowing.
"Shit…" She muttered, frowning. She didn't want to leave already! She'd only just gotten here! Well, maybe it'd been about a couple hours, but still not enough time for her!
Phoenix sighed. Time was going to be a bitch to her a lot, wasn't it? "Bye Doctor." She said out loud, than disappeared into a golden flash of light.
Little did Phoenix know, the Doctor had just been outside the door, waiting for her. He frowned as he heard her leave. They left on a bad note, and The Doctor hated when they did that. It really did break his hearts. Even if she still was early.
Yay! Don't worry if you liked the little conversation they had in my old version, it'll pop up again sometime... I hope you enjoyed! :)
