I don't own Bones.

The plastic bag in his hands, Booth stared at the badge in wonder. "What do you mean Hodgins found this on the victim?"

Shrugging her shoulders, Brennan sat down on the chair across from her husband's desk. "We didn't find any identification on the victim, but Hodgins did find the badge case in the jacket pocket of the victim. When he opened it he found the ID card was gone, but the badge was still in the case. He dusted it for finger prints, but the case had been wiped clean."

"This is my badge." Glancing at the badge and then at Brennan, Booth placed the bag on his desk and leaned back on his chair. "I don't understand. I lost that . . . " He paused and stared at the badge in thoughtfulness.

Uncertain how much he remembered of that time of his life, Brennan reminded him, "When you were rescued from the ship, you found out later that night that your badge and ID were missing. You thought you'd lost it on the ship, but apparently the grave digger or one of her accomplices took it from you."

"Accomplices?" Confused, Booth stared intently at Brennan. "Taffet only had one accomplice, Doug Clary."

Patiently, Brennan explained, "A few days after you were rescued, you expanded your search for the Gravedigger to include an accomplice. You told me that you didn't believe that there was any way that Heather Taffet could have taken you out of your apartment down the fire escape and carried you down into the hold of that ship. You were certain that she had to have had at least one accomplice and possibly two, but she never mentioned one and you were unable to pin down an associate. You did keep the case open though . . . After your brain surgery you seemed to forget about the case and your search. Since we didn't have any clues to help us find the person or persons involved I didn't bother to mention it. You had too much to deal with at the time as it was."

His attention rivited on his badge, Booth shook his head in frustration. "I don't remember that. Damn, that is so irritating. Maybe if I'd kept looking I'd have found Clary before he shot me. The only reason that I decided to start looking for an accomplice before I was shot was because I read over the Gravedigger files before the trial and I found a note from me saying that it was possible that Taffet had an accomplice, but I didn't find any other notes or references mentioning it. I started thinking about it and it just didn't seem reasonable for her to have kidnapped me by herself. She's too damn small and there was not way she could have carried someone like me down a fire escape. It was stupid that I didn't remember that after my surgery."

His agitation growing, Brennan leaned forward and placed her hand on his desk. "Booth, there were a lot of things happening to you after your surgery that you had to deal with. You forgot certain things and even some of your mannerisms changed. Until the Gravedigger trial came up, you had no reason to think about the case. You did the best you could."

Booth dropped the badge on his desk, but still kept his eyes on it. "I'll have to hand this over to the FBI. If our victim is one of Heather Taffet's accomplices they may try to get her to talk about him. I doubt she'll spill though. Harris says that they've tried to talk to her about Clary and she just sits there with a damn smirk on her face. There's no way she's going to admit that she murdered anyone else. Clark and the FBI will have to figure it out themselves . . . They may get Clary to tell them, but I won't hold my breath. He has a murder trial coming up and he sure as hell won't let the prosecutor pile on if he can help it."

"I told Cam that I want to help with the investigation." Booth staring fiercely at her, Brennan knew he was afraid for her safely. "I need to do this, Booth. I plan to help Clark and Cam because I want to get you closure. You deserve closure after almost being killed on that ship and then by Clary in your apartment."

His concern growing, Booth protested. "You were just as much of a victim as I was Bones. It was a really close thing when she buried you and Hodgins in that strip mine. The both of you could have easily died there and . . ." Standing, Booth moved around the desk and pulled her up so that he could wrap his arms around her. "Both of you deserve closure just as much as I do or the Kent twins or the other victims they harmed. I just . . . I just want you to be careful, because if there really is another accomplice . . . I need you to be careful."

Placing her arms around his chest, Brennan leaned against her man and sighed. "If that person was killed by Heather Taffet or Doug Clary I intend to prove it. If he was responsible for our kidnappings then I want to prove that so that everyone's cases will be completely closed. The Gravedigger's victims need to know that everyone involved is no longer a threat to them or anyone else."

"It'll happen Bones." Staring at the empty doorway, Booth spoke quietly. "I don't know why the body was buried here, but Taffet made a mistake. Maybe she thought she was tweaking our noses or maybe she planned to use it as a diversion of some kind, who knows. All I know is, she made a big mistake and she's going to know she did when you and Clark are done."

Climbing the stairs, Cam was surprised to find Booth sitting in the break room. "I thought you had a meeting with Director Foor this afternoon." Carrying her plate and coffee cup over to the table, she sat down and placed them on the table top in front of her.

"I saw him earlier this morning." Sipping his coffee, Booth watched Cam pick up some apple slices from her plate. "He wanted to be briefed about the John Doe found in the garden before he went into his meeting with some of the regents this afternoon. I gave him an update." Amused, Booth shook his head and chuckled.

Curious about his amusement, Cam asked him, "What's so funny?"

"I think he was beginning to question hiring me when he heard about the body." Booth took a gulp of his coffee and placed it down on the table. "He seemed to be relieved when I told him that the body had been there for at least sixteen months. I guess he was afraid that I'd allowed a body to be buried on Jeffersonian grounds on my watch."

Swallowing her bite of apple, Cam commented, "Instead, the body has been there for sixteen months and no knew about it. You know that is going to be played up in the news."

Since there was anything he could do to stop it, Booth conceded her point. "Yeah, probably but the Lab has nothing to do with security for the Jeffersonian and I didn't have any say until a couple of months ago. The press can try to embarrass us, but I'll make sure that the truth gets out there."

Relieved, Cam picked up a small cube of cheese. "Good, so will I. I think between the two of us we can keep our reputations intact."

Done with his coffee, Booth picked up his cup and stood up. "I sent a copy of our security footage to the FBI. I sent them three months of data. Angela has the same footage. Maybe we'll get lucky and find that the burial was recorded, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I checked and our security department has a guy that looks over footage every day to make sure that nothing odd has happened in the gardens or around the museum or lab after hours that got by the security guards. I made a change and I have someone else doing the same thing for day footage. I didn't like the fact that everyone was assuming that nothing would happen during normal business hours. I think everyone around here has been a little too complacent about security."

Holding her coffee cup in her hand, Cam looked up at her friend. "I knew you'd be a good fit around here. We really needed someone with your experience. I'm glad you're here, Booth."

Pleased that he was appreciated, Booth smiled. "Thanks, Cam."

Tired, Booth removed his tie, threw it on his dresser and started to unbutton his shirt. "Do you still want to stay in tonight?"

After she removed her blouse, Brennan picked up her sweat shirt and held it against her breasts. "Yes, I want to have a comfortable night at home. You don't mind do you?"

Pulling his shirt off, Booth threw it on top of his tie. "To tell you the truth, I'd like to stay home too. I know we talked about trying out that new restaurant, but today was pretty busy and I think we could both use the break." Walking over to where she was standing, Booth placed his hands on her bare shoulders. "I'm going to order pizza, we're going watch a movie and we're going to just veg. No thinking about murders or bodies or anything about any cases that you are working on. We're just going to relax."

Her eyes glittering, Brennan dropped her shirt and placed her hands on Booth's hips. "Well I was thinking that we might go to bed early tonight."

"Oh, well, that sounds pretty good too." Kissing her, he moved his hands down her arms to her wrists. "You know me, Bones. I'd do anything for you and that includes making a huge sacrifice and going to bed early."

Her snicker quiet loud, Brennan squeezed his hips. "I know Booth and I'd do anything for you. It's good that we're like that."

Releasing her wrists, Booth placed his hands on her hips and pulled her firmly against him. "Oh, yeah."
