Thank you for supporting my story. I really do appreciate it.
I don't own Bones.
Oooooooooooooooo
Entering a small room down the hallway from his office, Booth waited for Lester to follow him. "Okay this is your office. It's small, but it has to be better than the bullpen you're used to over at the Hoover."
Pleased with what he saw, Lester walked past Booth and smiled at the layout. The oak desk and matching chair faced the door, the small couch on the left side of the room with a small oak coffee table were solid pieces of furniture and obviously better than the government issued furniture he was used to. Two credenzas on the right side of the office balanced the room. There were also two chairs located in front of his desk. As an added feature there was a small refrigerator in the corner of the office next to the credenzas with a small TV sitting on top of it.
Impressed, Lester looked around and grinned. "Wow, this is pretty nice."
Amused, Booth watched Lester sit down behind his desk and open the desk drawers. "If you need anything you let me know and I'll see what I can do. I told them to leave the walls blank. You can add what you want."
Looking up, Lester frowned at his new Boss. "Harris was a little put out that I took this job, but I have to think of my family. Claire has been depressed ever since I was shot. With the baby coming in a few months and all, I just don't want to put her through any more crap."
His thoughts jumping to Brennan and his son, Booth sighed. "Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for your family. I loved the FBI and if I hadn't been hurt I might have stayed with them, but I think moving out of law enforcement was something I needed to do for my family. I understand what you and Claire have been going through. Bones get's upset when I'm sick let alone hurt so when I changed jobs she was sad that she wouldn't be working crime scenes with me anymore, but she's happy I'm not being shot at." Chuckling, Booth glanced in the hallway to make sure no one was nearby. "Truth be told, I'm happy she isn't being shot at either. She's pretty courageous and she doesn't take shit from anyone."
"Claire too, she's going to be a partner at her law firm someday. The Partners love her." Standing, Lester walked back around the desk. "So what do you want me to do right now?"
After checking his watch, Booth replied, "I'll give you a quick tour of Security, introduce you to our security team and then I'll have someone give you a tour of the Jeffersonian. That should take about two days to do it properly. This place is huge. I want you to get acquainted with the exhibits and the offices on the top floors. There's also the basement and the labs. I'd like you to talk to everyone in the building at least once. I don't expect you to remember everyone's names. I just want you to get acquainted with everyone and see how the Jeffersonian is set up . . . how things work." Checking his watch again, Booth frowned. "After you've made the tour, we'll talk again."
"That sounds great." Lester walked over to the doorway. "Thanks for the opportunity."
Leaving Lester's office with the younger man following him, Booth waved at Cam as they passed her office. "It's nice to have someone I can trust as my right hand man, Lester. Believe me."
Oooooooooooooo
In her office, Angela was staring at a piece of footage from the rose gardens. Uncertain what she was seeing, she played it back frame by frame, studying everything in each frame very closely. Once she was sure of what she'd found, she called Booth and asked him to come over to her office when he had a chance.
Curious, Booth walked down the hall to the artist's office and found Angela sitting in front of her Angelatron. "Hey, what's up?"
Her smile bright, Angela pointed to the chair next to her. "Have a seat. I need to show you something, but it might take some time."
Glancing at the screen, Booth sat down. "Is this about the Rose garden victim?"
Tapping a few keys on her pad, Angela nodded her head. "Yes . . . I went through the three months of footage twice before I found what we were looking for. The first time through I just looked for someone burying something in the gardens. It stood to reason it wasn't that blatant, but still prisons are full because people get careless or are just stupid. When I didn't find anything then I started to look at the area where the body was buried frame by frame. I finally found this."
Starting the video, she remarked, "I'm just going to show it to you and then you can decide if I'm right."
Booth leaned back on his chair and watched a tent put up over the area in question. He watched the employees lay down an Astroturf floor, then put up the tent. Once the tent was up, the workers carried in chairs, one long table and several small tables. Once they were done, he watched the footage advanced by Angela until he saw people milling around the tent. After awhile roughly forty people entered the tent for some kind of function. Saving time, Angela advanced the time until they could see the people who had entered the tent leave it. After a few frames, the tent was abandoned and soon there was no activity around it to be seen.
Curious, Booth started to ask Angela a question when he saw two men in brown uniforms approach the tent and then enter it. They both pulled two large garbage cans into the tent and closed the tent flaps that had been left open when the event had ended.
Pausing the footage Angela glanced at Booth. "Okay nothing happens for thirty three minutes, so I'll advance it to that time."
Once the video started up again, Booth witnessed the two men flip up the tent flap and leave the tent. Both cans had garbage in them. "If you look through the tent flap you can see that the chairs we could see earlier aren't in view. I checked the footage later and figured out that the chairs were all folded for pickup. You can see the long table that was sitting near the entrance is folded and lying in its side."
Glancing at Angela, Booth shrugged his shoulders. "Okay, tell me what I missed."
Amused, Angela backed up the footage and started it again to when the two men in brown clothes arrived with the big cans. "Look at the first can and the man pulling it."
His attention drawn to the big garbage can, Booth realized that the man pulling it was Doug Clary. He had on a cap and a moustache to try to hide his features, but it was definitely Clary. He also noticed that the man was moving the can as if it was heavy and was struggling to turn it to push it in to the tent. The other man, a stranger to Booth, pulled the second can behind him and the ease with which he moved it told Booth that it was empty.
"Well, that's one way to bury a body." Annoyed, Booth shook his head. "They used the tent to keep anyone from seeing what they were doing. They must have buried Tassin near the tent wall next to the rose bushes. You'd think someone would have questioned the freshly turned dirt once the Astroturf was removed."
Smirking, Angela advised him, "Well, in all fairness, you need to see the next bit of film." Fast forwarding the footage, they watched the chairs and tables taken out of the tent the next morning, the tent taken down and the Astroturf rolled up.
After she stopped the video, Angela pointed towards the rose bushes. "They must have cut the sod, buried the body and then replaced the sod. They did a pretty good job. You can tell the area was disturbed, but any casual observer would probably assume the gardners had been working in the area before the tent was put up."
Rubbing his chin, Booth stared intently at the spot where Tassin was buried and dryly remarked, "I guess I'll have to show this to security and add it on their checklists . . . check for graves after each event."
Unable to stop herself, Angela snickered. "How embarrassing."
Standing up, Booth smiled at the artist. "Not for me."
The image died on the screen after she tapped on her keypad. Turning towards Booth, Angela informed him, "I'm going to start a search for the smaller man with Doug Clary. Once I've identified him, I'll make a copy of the relevant footage and send it to Agent Harris along with the identification of the second man. Maybe they can use it to find the other guy and maybe force Clary to admit what they did."
His admiration written on his face, Booth nodded his head. "Great job as usual, Angela. A really great job."
Worried, the artist turned her chair around to face her desk. "I'm sorry, Booth."
Puzzled, Booth shook his head. "Sorry for what? You did a great job as per usual."
Slowly shaking her head, Angela sighed. "I'm sorry that this isn't over. It looks like the Gravedigger has another accomplice out there. I know Jack is going to be very unhappy when he hears about this."
Booth knew Hodgins was going to be very upset. "I'm not worried about it and Jack shouldn't be either. We'll catch the son-of-a-bitch and that will be the end of it."
After he left her office, Angela hugged herself.
