The Fairy Goddess Chapter 1:
Heartbreaking News and Resolve:
It was a chilly winter's day in Magnolia and Lucy breathed in the crispy air with a sigh. She had just recovered from a cold and was going to head towards the guild to pass the time until the tenrou group got back. She was supposed to go with Cana, but had fallen ill right before leaving. Luckily, Carla had convinced Cana to allow her to be her partner. Lily had also gone along after convincing Master to let him watch the S-class trials. This had left her rather lonely the past week, other than quick visits from her spirits (minus Loke who was with Gray) and Bisca to check on how she was doing. So, she went to the guild now that she was in good health again, since her team wasn't expected back for half a week. She walked along the side of the canal, waving to the men in the boats telling her not to fall. She smiled when her guild was in sight.
"Morning Minna!" Lucy exclaimed with a smile on her face as she threw open the doors of the guild.
"Morning Lucy!" The guild shouted back. Lucy sat down at the bar.
"Hi Kinana! Can I have a strawberry smoothie please?" Lucy asked the purple haired substitute barmaid. Kinana smiled.
"Of course!" She turned around to start Lucy's smoothie. Lucy turned to watch the guild. It was considerably more quiet and less crowded without the tenrou group around. It felt really weird. They had left the morning of the 11th, and today was only the 16th, but it still felt weird without them there. Once Kinana had finished making her smoothie, Lucy took it and moved to sit with Romeo who was reading a book with papers scattered across half of the table. Glancing at the clock she noticed it was 10:30 Am on a Saturday. Sitting down at his table, she asked what he was up to. Romeo looked up with an exhausted expression.
"I have a history presentation due Monday and I'm still exhausted from getting a combined 8 hours of sleep the last two nights." Romeo moaned from his side of the table where he was practically buried under homework. Lucy frowned,
"How come you haven't been sleeping lately?" She inquired with concern. Romeo sighed before going to take another sip of his drink before realizing it was empty.
"Well I was sick last week and I missed half of the school day Monday to see team Tenrou off, so I was a little behind and then on Wednesday all of my classes decided to give me final projects due Monday through Wednesday of next week before I leave for winter break. I have 5 classes so it's a lot to do so suddenly and I hate doing stuff at the last minute, so I decided to stay up late to get extra work done." He sighed before laying his head down on the table. Lucy looked at him with sympathy, remembering her childhood of nothing but study. Then, an idea popped into her head.
"What if I helped you with your projects?" She asked the gloomy child. Romeo looked up with hope in his eyes.
"Really Lucy-nee?!" Romeo practically begs while looking at the blonde mage across from him. Lucy nods and Romeo jumps from his side of the table. Hugging Lucy, he kept telling her how awesome she was. Laughing, Lucy pulled him off of her and got the topic back to the projects.
"What projects do you have left?" Lucy asked the much more relaxed Romeo.
"I already finished my math and science, so I have this one which is my history project as well as my ancient language and reading and writing classes." Romeo said. "For this project I need to finish reading this book and then mark places on this map. But this book is taking so long." Lucy nodded while thinking.
"Well how about you take my gale-force reading glasses to finish your book, and in the meantime I go get a map of Fiore from the library and get us both refills from the bar?" Lucy asked. Romeo nodded with a smile. 15 minutes later Lucy was back with their refills and a map of Fiore and Romeo was done with reading the book. Lucy sat down and together they started working on the history project.
Time Skip
Stretching both Romeo and Lucy stood up from the finished history presentation. Looking at the clock, Lucy noticed it was a quarter past noon. "Romeo, you have two other projects correct?" Romeo nodded from where he was stretching. "How about you bring them here and I get us lunch and we have a lunch break before doing those two? Lucy inquired. Romeo smiled.
"Thank you so much Lucy-nee!" Before racing upstairs to the Master's office where his father was temporarily setting up camp. Lucy walked to the bar and ordered another refill of strawberry smoothie and hot chocolate as well as two orders of pasta for them both. After the order was done she thanked Kinana and walked back over to Romeo setting their lunch down. They scarfed the food down and began working on the last two projects. At some point, she felt Loke return to the spirit world, but thought nothing of it, assuming it meant the S-class trials were over and that everyone was headed home. By the time they were done it was 3'o'clock and both of them were exhausted. Romeo was thanking Lucy profusely and she was shaking it off saying she was happy to help. As he skipped away to put his homework in his backpack upstairs, Bisca sat down next to her.
"Hey Lucy." Bisca said in greeting. "How are you feeling today?" Lucy stretched her arms out and yawned.
"I'm good." The blonde said to her green haired friend. "A little tired though. How are you?" Bisca nodded.
"I'm good. I was just seeing if you wanted to have a girls night with the rest of the girls when they get back next week." Lucy looked at the gun magic mage.
"Sure! Sounds like fun!" She exclaimed excitedly. They continued to chat for a bit before the guild doors were burst open by a strong force. Standing there was Lahar and Mest backed by a group of Rune Guards. All of them looked shaken up and overall in bad shape.
"Where is your stand-in guildmaster?" Lahar commanded in a loud voice. Macao raised his hand while the various members of the guild pointed to him. "I need to speak with you." Lahar projected across the guild. "It's urgent."
"Whatever you need to say to me you can say in front of the guild." Macao said in a loud and confident voice. However, he wasn't feeling very confident, as his best and closest friend Wakaba could sense from him. Lahar looked at him for a second.
"Very well then." Lahar said. Him and his crew walked into the guild shutting the guild's doors behind them. "I suppose it will be easiest to just say it, so here it goes." Lahar cleared his throat. "Tenroujima island was destroyed. There are no survivors." Everyone in the guild froze. Mest looked down in guilt, Lucy looked like she'd just seen a murder, Macao shook, and Kinana gasped, simultaneously dropping and shattering a glass she'd just been holding. The sound of glass shattering on the floor shook everyone out of their silent stupors and resulted in the screaming of a simultaneous 'WHAT?' from the remaining guild members.
"The trials were going fine until Grimoire Heart attacked. Fairy Tail won, but then a huge black dragon named Acnologia came from the sky. With a single roar, h- he e-e-eradicated the e-entire i-island." Mest choked out. "T-there wasn't e-even a-a-a- tr-trace." He sobbed as he fell onto his knees. Lucy covered her mouth horrified, tears streaming from her eyes. All of a sudden Romeo patted her on the shoulder, a grave look on his face, before turning to a crying Mest.
"If everyone died, then how did you survive?" Romeo inquired with suspicion. Mest cleared his tears, but still looked destroyed.
"My name isn't really Mest Gryder." The man in question said. "It's Doranbolt. I was sent as a spy from the magic council." He looked down in shame. "I'm so sorry that I couldn't rescue them. I wish there was something I could have done." He started to silently cry again. Lahar looked at his broken best friend before turning to the grieving fairies.
"I'm sorry for having to deliver this news to you." Lahar stated. "The council will be declaring them officially dead next week. We will also be paying for their memorial service." Lahar said. "We are all sorry for your loss." He said looking down before raising his head and leaving the guild without another word. The Rune Guards followed him, leaving the tear stained Doranbolt with the Fairies. Doranbolt looked at the Fairies with regret.
"I'm so sorry." He whispered just loud enough for them to hear in the now silent guild. He walked to the doors and shut them gently, following where Lahar and company had already headed. The devastated Fairies cried in silence. Until someone's voice cut through it.
Lucy's Point of view:
"They aren't dead." I heard a voice from behind me say. I turned towards the voice as people disagreed with the comment. There was Romeo, standing tall and proud, just like Natsu used to. He was still young, but in that moment there was a look of knowing belonging to someone much older. "They are still alive. I can feel it." Romeo stated and I could feel my tears lessen as I looked up at the child who was so sure of himself in the face of doubt. "You know it too, don't you? They aren't dead." He looked in my eyes. "They aren't dead." At that moment he looked so much like Natsu to me. I remembered how many times Natsu had looked at me with the same look in his eyes. I remembered how many times they'd faced certain death and survived. In that moment I knew too.
"You're right they aren't dead." I said brushing the tears from my face. "They're alive. I can feel it." Once the words had left my mouth I knew it to be as true as my name was Lucy. With more confidence I stood up. "How many times has Fairy Tail denied the odds and come out victorious? How many times have we faced death and survived? They are alive because they have each other and nothing can break this guild's bond. They are out there waiting for us to find them, and we can't stop looking until they are safely home. How would they feel coming home to us being stuck in the past? We need to move on to preserve this place we call home." With this the remaining guild members had stopped crying and started to look at me with hope. Then, an idea popped into my head. "Kinana, bring me a knife please." The barmaid did so, with a look of concern and confusion in her eyes. Taking it from her, I grabbed my hair in my opposite hand. "I swear on my honor as both a Fairy Tail and Celestial mage, to protect this guild in my family's place." Then I took the knife and cut through my hair as swiftly as I could. As gasps were heard from around the room my blonde locks fell to the floor below me. Looking into the nearest reflective surface, I could see my new hair, uneven, but it signified a change I needed to make to myself. Smiling, I thought to myself I swear on my life that I will protect the guild in your absence. And a Celestial Wizard never breaks their promises.
Hello everyone! It's Salem here! Sorry I haven't updated in so long. I am still working on my other story, but I REALLY wanted to start on this one because I'm really excited about it. I hope you have enjoyed it so far. I will hopefully have another chapter soon. There will be OC characters in this story, and I will be making Lucy stronger, just not a multi dragon slayer level of stronger. I also think that this will either be a NaLu or LaLu story when the tenrou group returns, but we will see. I was planning on LaLu because (spoiler) Lucy will be adopting kids and the oldest would be only a couple years younger than Natsu when he returns, and I thought that that would be weird. Please leave a review! Thank you for reading!
Love you lots,
~Salem
