We woke up to the sound of the first rays of sunshine peeking through the curtains. I blinked my eyes open and found Draco's face resting comfortably against the crook of my neck. His eyes were still closed, and for a moment I allowed myself to appreciate the peacefulness of our embrace.
I gently brushed the hair away from his forehead, feeling my heart beat faster with every touch. I knew that this was a moment that I would cherish forever.
But all good things must come to and end, and I slowly began to untangle myself from his grip. I looked over at his sleeping figure and couldn't help but feel a wave of emotions come over me. Part of me didn't want to move, the other part of me knew that I not only had to move, but also wash away these newfound feelings.
As I rose from the couch, Draco opened his eyes. He looked at me inquisitively, obviously having just woken up. His gaze was filled with questions, and I could feel my cheeks beginning to heat up as I caught his gaze.
"Good morning," I said softly, breaking the silence that had engulfed us.
"Good morning," he said, a small hint of a grin playing across his lips.
We both slowly rose from the couch and Draco walked towards me. "Hermione," he said slowly, his gaze still on mine. I found it difficult to breathe as he continued to look into my eyes, but before I could create more awkwardness by clutching onto the throbbing in my throat, he placed his hand on my arm.
"Thank you," he whispered, "for taking care of me."
I felt my throat release as I opened my lips, my voice cracking a little bit as I said, "Anytime."
We just stood there in the silence, our eyes still locked in an intense gaze. I could feel my heart racing in my chest, and I knew that a line had been crossed. I had no idea what would come of our moment, but I knew that everything had changed.
