Karr was worried about Melissa. She had asked him to read two of Michael's case reports to her, explaining they involved her brother (who she did not get along with), and she wanted them read to her in in a dispassionate tone. Karr had only gotten a short way in when Melissa had run from the room in tears. She hadn't taken her cane, so at least he knew she couldn't have gone far.
Karr wondered what had upset her so. Devon was quite obviously still alive and hadn't suffered any long-term ill effects from whatever Elizabeth Knight had used. Though perhaps learning that Karl Elliot had died – and so Devon could have died – had triggered her response. From talking with Kitt, Karr had gathered that Melissa was quite close to her godfather.
Although . . .
Karr reviewed the facts. There was only one rational explanation for Melissa's irrational behavior. And so, he reached out to Kitt.
