A number of alarm clocks went off, chiming a dissonant number of sounds in an effort to wake up everyone in the three tiers of condo occupation now. What once could be counted on as the dawn was blocked by the swath above them. Not that everyone got up at dawn, some people couldn't wake up to a marching band through the bedroom if one 'tried'.
But it was a new condo, it needed cleaning and effort! It was a focus that wasn't the gloom of the outside world, but the shine of the interior! Thus even the most sleepy of sleepy woke up with a bright eyed enthusiasm! Breakfast was made and eaten in the twins condo, while both sets of new residents went over lists of what they would need to clean the condo.
A majority of it was going to be Carly and Jack since the twins and Ryu couldn't clean all that much in the condo on their own. Most of the work had been finished in Asuka's groups condo, but only 'most'. Schedules were drawn up, lunch time schedules and who would help cook for that, as well as dinner. Seamlessly transitioning from a lone group to three groups working as one.
The Dragons would roll out to patrol the city and keep an eye out for Judai and co as well. Asuka's group would eventually return to surveillance, with Momoe and Junko helping cook meals, but for now Asuka and the guys would work on cleaning. Asuka with Carly and the guys in their own condo cuz mermaids... while the radio played from a local radio station providing them with music and news.
With so many people, the lunches the twins had were now robust with conversation and tales. Set up, cooking, break downs, everything was with this large group of teenagers that quickly become their own little community. More Duel Spirits drifted more readily around the place with Aki and Ruka both being there.
"So you can't read fortunes since your fairies are in those cocoons?" Asuka inquired as her eyes drifted to the orbs that hovered around Carly.
"I... I don't think so, but Misty says that I can, its just that I'm more comfortable using the deck as my medium than other things..." Carly hedged over her bowl of rice.
"Things like?" Momoe asked between adding a bit more kim chi to her meal. Spirit of Wind was idly staring at the food on the table with a passing curiosity in her eyes. Yet the spirit was more spirit than others. She was a straight up ethereal being compared to the more grounded Cyber Tutu or Witchy Witch of the Black Rose.
"Well I have a roulette wheel now..." Carly began when Momoe and Junko's eyes lit up with excitement. She watched as the pair quickly got to their feet before making their way to the elevator.
"Where is it?" Junko asked in excitement while Asuka shook her head, but got up as well.
A roulette wheel sounded interesting and the guys even joined in.
"If its ok?" Ryo asked when he noticed Carly merely sitting there blinking in a slightly stunned expression.
"Su-sure!" Carly got up as well while the kids continued amid their own conversation. Ryu was discussing duel spirits, and the cards in his deck. Which actually 'was' odd to her as Ryu had a deck that didn't manifest a single spirit? Shaking her head she turned her attention back to the group and taking her bowl she walked towards the elevator. After all! Cleaning was hard work and boy she was hungry!
"So I mean I saw it and bought it one day cuz it was my Fortune Fairies only as a roulette wheel," Carly began as she joined everyone. "I painted it as well, and all you do is spin it to see where it lands for your fortune supposedly."
"Supposedly?" Kazu repeated a bit curious. "You don't think it works? Why?"
"Well, because..." Carly stuck her hand out and curled her fingers as though she was holding a knob. Then gave a quick flick of her wrist, "the idea is that the spin will be random, but once you're used to spinning the wheel I can't help but wonder. 'Just how can it be random if you spin it the same way every time?' I shuffle my deck for a reading, but I don't shuffle anything on the wheel."
"Good point," Fubuki replied thoughtfully. "I suppose for the average person its more the novelty and to make a quick yen. Yet in your case the spirits would control the wheel... But..." his eyes drifted to the cocoons... 'Their color reminds me of Honest... I wish he would come back. His guilt trip is getting over long.'
When the elevator stopped at Carly's condo, the group stopped to take in the atmosphere once more. There was no real way around it, it was just so singularly unique and pleasant to see such art, perhaps akin to walking into an art museum. There were a few display units up placed strategically to ensure that no ray of sunlight would bounce off the glass and strike anything possibly flammable. A hold over from the days when the sun could even get high enough to focus that much energy.
The elevator doors opened creating pools of light in the darkness, as the environmental lights eased into their own settings. Allowing the group entering to loosely fan out. Shadows were tossed against various objects and walls, brooms, mops, dusters among other things, with cloth covered furniture waiting for their release from their fabric shields. While a single table was stationed in front of the aforementioned covered couch.
"I suppose, I actually got the roulette wheel because it was my Fairies and only intended it to be a decoration." Carly explained as she resettled her glasses while gesturing off to the right, waving towards the table. "I'll get the wheel, you get settled!"
"Wait we'll take the bowl!" Asuka offered, granted they didn't know how big the wheel 'was' but Carly's klutzy nature was known.
Clop
….
Given the size of her, everyone had agreed that when Natasha opted to manifest herself she needed, was required and mandated, to make a small hoof sound so everyone knew. Because everyone needed to expect the laid back friendly centaur might manifest directly behind them. So that when Asuka turned around and got a face full of centaur stomach not to scream and to keep her hand holding the bowl of rice just to her side and not have it mid swing.
"Hi Natasha."
"I heard divination devices were being demonstrated, after the pool I'm totally interested." Natasha announced gleefully as she looked down at Asuka.
"Demonstrated?" Carly called out from the bedroom where she had just popped open the case. "Eh, well its just the roulette wheel," she elaborated.
"Yes, but we don't have things like that, and my partners are responsible mature humans who don't do anything 'fun'." Natasha replied as she faded her self so she could prance in place and not damage the floor. The twins explained that to her.
"Have you seen the state of the world?" Junkos' rebuttal was with none of the anger and all of the amusement. She folded her arms and gave the spirit her best squinting in lofty judgement stare she could muster.
Junko got a tail flick as an answer while Carly reappeared with said roulette wheel. Granted the group imagined more the typical upright wheel but this was flat, parallel to the ground. They could even see fairies all around it!
"I'm starting to see your issue," Momoe confessed as they followed Carly to the table. "How are you even supposed to grip the knob properly with the fairies in the way?"
Carly nodded as she settled it down, her bowl placed her near by Asuka, and the others getting comfortable around her very quickly. "More the reason to buy it for the novelty than the function. Um... does anyone have any questions?"
"I do!" Fubuki spoke first, his tone rushed enough that Asuka glanced at him in surprise. Carly turned her attention to him ensuring he couldn't go back from it. So trying not to sound guilty or awkward he asked, "is Honest ok?"
Everyone looked at him and then down as Ryo frowned at that realization. "He... hasn't been around has he..."
"We've... not been good friends huh?" Kazu asked feeling a bit shamed as well. "I mean I know he was pretending... But he meant well and tried to look after us..."
Momoe looked around and there were a number of spirits in the condo. From her Spirit and Sky Scout, the Cyber Harpy Lady, everyone was visible and supportive. Even if their families were out of the country, and school was gone, they had each other and their spirits.. She looked down at the scars on her body. "It... its my fault isn't it?"
Everyone paused, Carly pushing her glasses back up her nose, while turning to look at her. "I've just been about myself, my looks and my abilities to still be part of the group. I've sucked away so much of everyone's time and effort that no one had time for Honest."
"Momoe..." Asuka began but Kazu cut her off.
"No, its not on you its on all of us. But at the same time how do we know we willingly 'forgot' about him? He hypnotized us before, and he felt terrible about what happened so maybe he did it to save our feelings? Its not on you, maybe not on all of us, but we 'should' try to find him and make sure he's ok. He's his own person after all, and he should be free to be here with us."
"Right," Asuka chimed in as the others nodded.
"Well that adjusts the question then doesn't it?" Carly noted as she looked at the wheel. "Hmm... 'Is he ok' well are we talking mentally and emotionally or physically? Because he could be fine in one category but not the other and welp..." she gestured to the wheel and how they reflected the Fairies limited expressions of fortune.
"Physically," Ryo stated with the solid force of a man not to be argued with, and with such a speed the others blinked at him with loss. "We know that he was forced away from us for a time. So we know he can't force his way here if someone is blocking him. That saying, if we ask about his emotional and mental state and we get a bad reading. It could be just a sign of his feelings of guilt, or it could be signs of him being tortured. First we need a reading on his physical state, if he's safe, then we know no one is forcing the other."
"That's our Emperor!" Fubuki cheered as he clapped away the negative energy that tried to wiggle into the condo.
"Here here!" the others called out before all eyes turned to Carly.
Pleased as punch the duelist settled herself before the wheel as the others settled in as well. "Welp we have our question so lets go!" She reached in and grabbed the knob. "I would like to know the current physical fortunes of this groups' Duel Spirit, Honest."
She sent the wheel in motion and the clacking of the pins and pointer was whisked into a blur of sound. Everyone sat with baited breath as the wheel turned, a blur of various colors that began to slow as did the sound. Soon they could hear each unique clack until even that slowed down further.
Water blue Swee was where the wheel stopped, the words 'A little bad' were being pointed at, leaving everyone sitting back to ponder.
"A little bad isn't torture," Junko noted while every single duel spirit in the room was either leaning over or, in the case of Natasha, leaning over with a janga pile of spirits resting on her back and shoulders.
"Maybe he's just depressed to the point that its affecting him physically?" Asuka suggested and the others slowly nodded.
"Now watch," Carly spoke up as she reset the wheel, "I'll spin it again with the same force, and give it no question." She gave the wheel a spin then resumed. "This is why I don't like using this, because now if I spin I know that Hikari is going to lead to Swee."
"But lets believe the reading, and if that's the case how do we find Honest? We can't leave and go looking for him with the world being in the state it is. Yusuke 'might' be able to call him. But I don't feel good letting him know that Honest is missing. He might still be upset with Honest." Junko pointed out as the wheels' clatter drummed a beat to her words.
"Lots of photocopies of Honests' card-," Fubuki began and got jabbed from both sides, one from his sister the other Ryo.
"We should have some faith that he'll come back, or let our Spirits spread the word that we're worried about him?" Kazu suggested as Queen's powerful lion paws did that kneeding thing that cats did.
"He must be lonely..." Momoe thought aloud as her gaze traveled to Spirit of the Wind and its fixation on the roulette wheel. She followed the spirits attention and let the blur of cheery colors lull her into a pleasant light hypnosis.
"She's right, but are you guys willing to forgive and let him be part of our group? If we can free Yusuke, it would mean one more person." Junko pointed out as she gave Ryo and Kazu her attention. Fubuki would accept him, given everything Fubuki went through 'because' of Honest. It just broke character for him to retract that support and help.
"Well.. given the time he's been away I'll admit its given me time to adjust to what we learned." Ryo conceded, his line of sight drifted across the group until it landed on Momoe and her, with Spirits, fixation on the wheel. The sound filtered into his concern and caused him to frown finally. "Has that wheel slowed down at all?"
Spirit of the Wind responded first with a shake of their head, but Ryo's question caused everyone to snap their attention to the wheel.
"Uh Carly?"
Not that she heard, Carly's whole world snapped into the clacking of the roulette wheel as it continued to spin. It showed no sign of slowing as she tried to focus on a single color and follow it until her eyes were spinning. "There's no batteries or anything..." She argued to herself, but needed her voice to comfort her. Reaching out she brought her hands down on the wheel to cause a hard stop, yet the base began to rotate! Her increase in pressure only made her realize that if she let go it would resume!
"Maybe it needs a question?" Tutu asked feeling the need to speak in the growing silence. "Its suppose to tell fortunes but you spun it without purpose..." She suggested while a cyber dragon rumbled in agreement.
"Yeah, it might just be that you've come into your own power Carly! Time to stop being a mouse!" Sky Scout suggested as he leaned over.
"Its not supposed to... I mean I'm not..." Carly struggled before Natasha reached down and gently pushed Carly back off the wheel. Unhindered it resumed its spin, despite having a young woman bear down on it at all. "Stop it! You're not supposed to spin like this!" She ordered, only to be ignored by the very roulette she set in motion.
"Just ask it if we will be successful rescuing Yusuke, Judai and Jesse," Kazu asked in mounting excitement. 'Fortune telling isn't like this in the real world, if something is happening it must mean Carly has a serious talent!'
Flustered to the point of her glasses becoming skewed as she looked around the group and the condo for help. The people had stood up and moved back a step from the wheel, while their Spirits began to hover a little closer. For those like Blader who had her face covered by a colored glass shield it was impossible to know her feelings. But Tutu and the others seemed excited!
Carly merely parroted the question back, shoving all her fear and confusion into the energy of the question.
The wheel slammed to a stop on Ann.
No slowing down or anything just the repetitive sound of pins slapping against a pointer then nothing at all. So the echo of the sound had to suffice as it faded into the foliage painted onto the walls of trees, bushes and grass.
"Unhappy Reading." Asuka finally read aloud as she leaned over to look. "But I guess we shouldn't expect better. They've been kidnapped and brain washed, its not like they left their phone and went out to the mall..."
"Its not supposed to do that..." Carly muttered, indifferent to the reading and fixated on the 'novelty roulette wheel'.
