Well, it seems as if I suck at not procrastinating, because even though I said I would update more than once a month last chapter, it's still been a month. Then again, I was gone last week and the week before that from Monday to Saturday so I really didn't have time to write... But still, no excuse. God, I feel bad. This chapter is heart-wrenching all over again, god. There is even a POV switch, which I'm sorry if you guys don't like it, but I wanted to add a little something else in there.
Oh, and I'm writing a book! Like an actual, proper book. I'll (Hopefully) be selling it on Amazon. It's still very much in the works, and probably will take more than just this summer. So hehe, I kind of have an excuse not to update. That's not good.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy this chapter, even though it's kind of sad and happy at the same time. I have mixed feelings about this one. I think I wrote it way worse towards the end, but that's up to you to decide! Enjoy!
Phoenix span around in the spinny chair as the Doctor gave his little presentation with the glass. Truthfully, she thought it was just stupid and a one way ticket to getting someone hurt. Sharp, broken glass means a lot of blood. She was staying as far away from it as she could. Plus, a simple explanation could have sufficed. It wasn't like Yvonne was going to listen anyways.
Phoenix tapped on the armrest of the chair. 1-2-3-4. 1-2-3-4. The damn drums. Could they get any more annoying? She wanted them out of her head and out of her fucking life. But of course, the Master will always survive and all that bullshit. Seriously, why did Moffat have to favor the Master so much? She would be much better off without him, literally!
She had theorized that somehow the drums were wired in through him, considering she had gotten them after she had kissed him, which she was still beating herself up about. She could have bloody avoided that situation easily. But no. She had to kiss him.
Phoenix shook her head. Why was she thinking of those kind of things at a time like this? She had to save Rose! She glanced over to the man cleaning up the glass from the Doctor's 'presentation'. Standing up, Phoenix walked over to the man before squatting down and carefully picking up a piece of glass.
"Do you ever get annoyed with this job?" She asked, glancing up at the man as she carefully stored the piece of glass in her pocket. She didn't know why, but she felt as if she would need it later.
The man shrugged. "I suppose, when stuff like this happens," He said softly, glancing over to Yvonne in a nervous way. He must not like talking bad about his job behind his boss's back. Which was rather stupid, because everyone did it anyways.
"Do you ever feel like there isn't something right about this place? Like you get a tingly feeling up your spine when you walk around a certain area?" Phoenix questioned, raising her eyebrows. At the moment, she was trying to be productive and get to the area where the Cyberman was. The show didn't exactly give maps of buildings, so she had to get some help with that.
The man gave her an interesting glance, before giving an uncertain nod. Phoenix smiled. "Great. So could you show me?"
They both stood up, and the man glanced at his boss before pointing down a hallways and walking in that direction. Phoenix smirked. So far, so good.
When they reached the construction area, Phoenix thanked the man before saying he could go back to his job. The man just nodded and walked off, just like Phoenix expected him to.
She turned toward the construction area, taking a deep breath. This could either go really horribly or even worse than really horribly. Both bad options, but she was opting for the first one. Let's just say she had a stupid plan that she was crossing her fingers it would work.
She walked inside the curtain, acting more nervous than she actually was. For this to work, she would have to get there while the rift was opening up. Which meant she had to hurry. Walking faster, Phoenix kept going through the curtains.
Finally, the Cyberman was in front of her. On the outside, she was panicking as he grabbed her, but on the inside, she was smirking, with a hint of nervousness. She was just really hoping it would work.
*POV SWITCH: The Doctor's 3rd Person POV*
The Doctor glanced around the room from the chair he was sitting in. Everything was going according to plan. Well, mostly.
"Excuse me? Everyone? I thought I said stop the ghost shift. Who started the program? But I ordered you to stop! Who's doing that?" Yvonne exclaimed, extremely confused.
The Doctor abruptly stood up. Something was going wrong with the levers, and it was opening by itself. It wasn't supposed to do that, someone was controlling it. The Doctor quickly went over to Adeola.
"What's she doing?" He questioned, bending down next to her. He snapped his fingers in front of her eyes. Nothing, no response, not anything. He immediately could tell she was being controlled… but how?
"Addy, step away from the desk. Listen to me. Step away from the desk," Yvonne exclaimed, eyes wide with panic.
"She can't hear you. They're overriding the system," The Doctor said, looking at the computer. The equations danced across the screen with ease. It was obvious to tell that they were hacking into the lever.
"We're going into Ghost Shift," The Doctor said, looking up at the rift with worry, though a plan was already forming inside of his head. Which then reminded him, where was Phoenix? He looked around, though he couldn't see her anywhere. He began to panic. Where was she? If she had gotten captured by something…
But then, he saw her walk in. He almost ran over to her in relief, but he noticed something. She had a metal contraption in her ears, exactly like the people at the desks did. And she had the same monotone look as the others did. Trailing in behind her, was a Cyberman. The Doctor's eyes widened.
She had been converted into a drone for the Cybermen.
*Back to Phoenix's 3rd Person POV from now on*
Phoenix walked down the hallway, stiff and drone-like, towards the area where the Cyberman should just be starting to become more than footprints. Her plan, sort of, was to disguise as a Cyberman drone, and somehow sabotage the whole thing. She was hoping it would work. Really, really, hoping.
She stiffened more when they finally reached the door, and attempted at clearing her face of any emotion. She wanted even the Doctor to be convinced that she had been transformed into a Cyberman drone. It would get him up and working, she assumed. She hoped. If it didn't, well, Rose was going to get sucked into an alternate dimension and Phoenix was sure to sacrifice her own life to make sure she didn't.
As they walked into the room, Phoenix's gaze turned over to the Doctor's. His eyes were wide in shock and fear. His mouth had dropped to the ground. She so desperately wanted to make a witty remark about that, but she kept her mouth shut and her monotonous look stayed on.
"What the hell did you do to her?" The Doctor growled, getting over his shock and giving a death glare at the Cyberman next to Phoenix. He was outraged, furious, and ready to fight. She was right, it would get him going.
"She had been converted into a drone. She will be useful." The Cyberman said in its robotic voice, showing no emotion for the person he supposedly 'killed'.
"A drone? A drone?!" The Doctor screeched, almost flipping the table. Yvonne grabbed his arm, keeping him from doing anything rash. Phoenix was glad, because it looked like the Doctor was about to walk over and try to slap it out of her. Which, wouldn't be painful if she was a real drone. But, since she wasn't, it would be painful as all hell. Especially considering the Doctor had quite the mean backhand.
"Change her back. Change her back, right now." The Doctor panted, glaring daggers at the Cyberman. Phoenix couldn't help but think that the situation would be fun to watch. Yes, she had to sabotage shit and all that, but by the way the Doctor was reacting, it would be funny as well.
"Impossible." The Cyberman replied, looking at the Doctor with its dead eyes. That made Phoenix slightly scared. If she had been actually converted, she would never have been able to go back.
"What do you mean 'impossible'?" The Doctor questioned, suddenly so much more serious. And so much more deadly. If the Doctor acted calm in a situation like this, you are in so much more trouble than you actually think you are.
"Once they are converted, it is impossible to be converted back." The Cyberman replied, which made the Doctor even angrier. It meant that, in his eyes at least, Phoenix was never going to be normal again.
"You are going to pay for that. You ruined a perfectly innocent life!" The Doctor exclaimed, immediately setting to work on the computer, to try and stop whatever was happening. He was fired up, he was ready to get revenge. Phoenix's plan, so far, was working perfectly.
But suddenly, the drums in Phoenix's head crashed against her skull, making her crumple to the ground in pain. She whimpered holding her head. The drums beat constantly, almost destroying her mind in seconds. 1-2-3-4. 1-2-3-4. 1-2-3-4. 1-2-3-4.
The Doctor quickly rushed over to her side, eyes wide with fear. He had no idea what had happened, so he thought that the ear pieces had done something. But as he looked at her ears, he saw that they had fallen out. They had been connected to Adeola and the other guy, however. How could they just fall out?
Phoenix whimpered again, curling up into a ball. The drums just kept beating louder and louder against her skull, insanity pressing behind the closed doors. She couldn't take it anymore. Tears slipped down her cheeks, and she started to glow a golden color.
The Doctor's eyes widened. She was jumping to a different place, different time. She didn't look like she could handle that. He wished her could keep her from jumping, but he knew he couldn't. He watched as Phoenix slowly disappeared from his arms, to a different point in time and space.
Phoenix appeared inside the Tardis, on the metal flooring of the console room, and immediately broke down crying. The drums had dimmed down slightly, but her head still hurt. She felt a pair of lanky but strong arms wrap around her, which she identified as the 11th Doctors. Don't ask her how she knew, she won't tell.
Phoenix sniffed, and looked up at the Doctor. "I-I was… at C-canary Warf…" She said, still slightly sobbing as she did.
The Doctor's eyes widened, and he held her closer. "Are you okay? What happened? Are you alright?" He said, almost frantically.
"I'm fine, Doctor." She said, chuckling lightly. She hugged him back, pulling him close in need for comfort. "The earplugs messed up my head for a few minutes." Phoenix knew she was lying, but she really didn't want the Doctor to know what had actually happened. She didn't know exactly when this was, and if he knew about the drums yet or not.
But, with a glance at his clothes, she knew he already knew. He was in his Victorian style clothes, the purple and brown ones. She had always fancied those the most, surprisingly. He looked dead sexy in them… What the hell was she thinking? Now that she was in the Doctor Who universe, she couldn't just have fangirl thoughts like that. He was actually real, and in an actual relationship with River Song/Rose depending on the time.
But, for some odd reason, Phoenix felt the urge to kiss the Doctor, then and there. Something inside her mind told her to do it, to just snog him. She was hesitant at first, but her heart took over and she leaned in and kissed the Doctor.
He kissed back almost immediately, which shocked Phoenix slightly. He couldn't have guessed she was going to do that, could he? Though, her thoughts didn't continue for long as the kiss became more passionate, more needy. All she could think about was how rough but delicate he was, and how his lips tasted like custard, mint, and something else rather indistinguishable.
Phoenix wrapped her arms around the Doctor's shoulder, pulling him closer to her. It was almost like an obsessive thing, she needed him closer to her. But soon, all of that was shattered, when she started glowing the familiar golden color.
They broke apart, and Phoenix gave the Doctor a sad smile and a small wave. But before she disappeared, a vision, or flashback, popped up in her mind.
Eventually, Phoenix suddenly stopped in her tracks, noticing an image over down another corridor. She slowly walked toward it, noticing it was her. But the more disturbing point to the story was, she was snogging the Doctor. Like, full out snogging. It looked kind of disgusting. Phoenix turned her back, instantly regretting walking over to see it.
Phoenix then disappeared, leaving her utterly disoriented and confused with that.
She reappeared back at Canary Warf, a lost look in her eye as she did. What the hell was that, and why was that relevant? Where had it even come from? Her thoughts were interrupted soon by someone calling her name.
She turned around to see Rose and the Doctor walking up to her, both with relieved looks on their faces. Phoenix smiled softly, but it was more like a lopsided grin. She was still very disoriented from the whole previous situation.
"Phoenix! Are you okay? What happened?" The Doctor said, a worried look in his eye. He was looking her up and down, making sure she wasn't hurt or anything.
"N-no… I'm fine… Just confused." She said, shaking her head slightly, trying to rid her outrageous thoughts.
"Confused? About what?" Rose questioned, grabbing Phoenix's hand and giving it a tight squeeze. Phoenix couldn't help but notice the quick glance of jealousy at the gesture from the Doctor. Why was he jealous?
"It's nothing. From the future and all that. Don't you have something you need to be working on?" Phoenix said, looking at the Doctor with almost scolding eyes. She had suddenly remembered what exactly was going to happen, and she wanted to do something about it. Her original plan had gone to waste, so she would have to think of something new, and quick.
The Doctor's eyes widen, and he quickly rushes over to the computers he was messing with earlier, leaving Phoenix and Rose alone. Phoenix looked over at Rose with a lopsided grin, before pulling her into a hug.
"I haven't seen you since Reinette. God, it feels like it's been such a long time." She said, smiling softly. She wasn't going to say Rose was her favorite companion, because she really did like all of them, but she had been the first companion she had ever watched, so that gave her a special spot.
Rose hugged back tightly, smiling as well. They had both missed each other quite a lot actually. It felt like Rose hadn't seen Phoenix in the longest of times as well.
The Doctor walked over to them with three magna clamps. Phoenix chuckled. That was an odd coincidence. The Doctor handed one to each girl, as he grinned slightly, but with the same spark of jealousy stuck in his eye. Phoenix frowned. He was probably jealous of her holding Rose's hand and hugging her. God, how could she be so stupid?
"When it starts, just hold on tight. Shouldn't be too bad for us but the Daleks and Cybermen are steeped in Void stuff. Are you ready?" The Doctor asks, with a worried look on his face.
Phoenix raised her hand slightly. "I kind of have a lot of void stuff on me too. You know, from a different dimension and all of that." She reminded him, chuckling as she said so. It all sounded a bit weird, actually.
The Doctor looked almost pained for a second, before shrugging his shoulders. "Just hold on tighter." He said, walking over towards the levers. He activated his magnaclamp, and looked over at Rose and Phoenix.
They both looked at each other for a moment, before shrugging their shoulders and walking towards the other lever. Phoenix was at her last plan. She would pull down the lever, instead of Rose. She would get sucked in, and leave Rose to stay with the Doctor. It was the only thing she had, so she was hoping it would work.
They both activated their magnaclamps, before looking over to the Doctor. All three of them pulled down their levers, and immediately grabbed onto the clamps as the Void started to pick up wind and suck things into it. Phoenix grimaced, gripping the bar extra tight. It was tougher for her actually. The more Void particles you had, the stronger the pull was. And supposedly, she was absolutely drenched in them.
"Offline." The computer calls, signaling Phoenix to start her plan. She slowly let go of clamp, but grabbed hold of the lever. Slowly, she started to pull it down. It inched its way down, and each moment, the pull was getting stronger.
"Online and locked." The computer called. Phoenix grinned widely. She had done it! Phoenix looked up at Rose, who was looking worriedly at her. Phoenix's fingers had started to lose their grip, after all. Rose held out her hand, in a gesture to take it. Phoenix took it, and Rose pulled her up slowly. She grabbed her clamp just in time, but then she noticed.
Rose's grip was almost gone. "NO!" Phoenix shouted, trying desperately to grab Rose, to prevent her from falling through the Void into another dimension. But, as always, fate was cruel. Rose flew away too fast, she didn't have enough time to catch her. Phoenix watched as Rose's dad teleported in and grabbed her just in time. Just like in the TV show.
The suction finally stopped, and Phoenix fell to her knees, on the floor, sobbing. She had just lost her friend, right in front of her eyes. She could have saved her, if only she hadn't grabbed Rose's hand. She was an idiot, she couldn't even save Rose.
Phoenix chocked out another sob, realizing the Doctor probably hated her now. She was right, he was going to kick her out of the Tardis. He probably wouldn't even be able to stand looking at her face ever again. She had basically killed someone.
But then, a pair of warm, muscly arms embrace her. And she knows, she had been forgiven. For now, at least.
That ending though. It sounds like something that comes off of a Christian movie or something. Not that that is a bad thing it just sounds a bit weird in this context.
Anyways, I don't really like this chapter all that much. I like the story line and all, but I didn't do much with the whole drone thing, and there were too many jump cuts. Eugh, again, I don't like how this chapter turned out. I totally could have done something way cooler with the drone thing. But eh, I wanted to get to the kissing bit, because so many people have been complaining about the torturing stuff, and that I don't need to be the next Steven Moffat. I actually wouldn't mind that, but there's your romantic scene guys.
