Hello everyone! I have another update! Much sooner than the last one, I'll have to say... It's funny, I'm getting more inspiration as school gets closer. Which is kind of tough, but I think you guys will get at least 2-3 more chapters before school starts. Though, I do have a summer camp I have to go to next week, so that will be a bit of a mess.
Anyways, I have a poll up on my profile (Or at least, I'm pretty sure it's up on my profile. I haven't had time to check.) to see if you guys want a Rose x Phoenix Side Story! I hope you guys will go vote! Please tell me if there isn't actually a poll: I'll have to see what's wrong with it if there isn't.
This chapter is interesting. I mean, it's only two scenes. But I think it's pretty good, and I'm changing my original plot a bit drastically with this, especially considering it's so soon in the story, while I did it later in the story on the other one. But I think you guys will overall appreciate this more than the other one!
Anyways, I hope you enjoy, as always!
(Disclaimer: I still do not own Doctor Who, no matter how many times I have put it on my Christmas wish list...)
"Doctor? What are you doing here, on a broken Dalek ship? No, never mind, I know the answer to that. The better question is, do you know why I am here? I'm rather confused myself, the Tardis brought me here herself, and I generally don't know why. I might be important to the line of events coming up, but what would they be? I have no idea, and this is really getting to me. I don't like not knowing things. It's frustrating," Phoenix rambled, pacing back and forth across the room, aware of the Doctor's eyes staring after her. She knew that he had recognized her, but she wasn't sure exactly what the hell he knew beyond that. But, it wasn't exactly her main focus point. Actually, she was mostly focused on what was coming up next. Obviously she had some part to play in the war, that was for sure. But what was it?
The Doctor chuckled, watching her with an amused expression. Phoenix stopped, turning to him, a lopsided grin on her face. She was being rather silly, after all. There really shouldn't be anything to worry about, besides the fact that a Dalek might show up any second and attack them. Well, and possibly how bad the Time War is at the moment.
They sat in a content silence, though it was a bit more awkward for Phoenix considering she didn't know him that well. In fact, she didn't know him at all. There had been, what, one episode with him in it? She knew that he was kind when he wanted to be; that was about it. She didn't know about his personality at all, unlike the other Doctor's. She couldn't began to guess what appealed to him.
Suddenly, The Doctor stood up, startling Phoenix. "Well, it was nice seeing you, but I have some important business to attend to," He said, heading for the exit of the room. Phoenix's eyes widened. That was really brief. It had to be extremely important, and Phoenix had a slight inkling on what it was. She stood up as well, following after him.
"I'm coming too. I'm pretty sure I know what you're doing, at I don't want you to do it alone. Okay?" Phoenix said seriously, looking up at him. He wasn't much taller that her, only about a foot or two, but she still had to look up to reach his eyes. They were a silver-ish color, but at the same time they were almost hazel. They were almost deceptive, as if they were trying to trick you into thinking it was a different color altogether.
"You can't come," The Doctor said sternly, looking over at Phoenix roughly. Phoenix smiled softly, shaking her head. She understood that he was trying to protect her; all the versions of the Doctor she had met so far had done that. But sometimes he needed to learn that he couldn't always do things alone.
"I'm coming with you no matter what you say! And if you lock me out of the Tardis, I'll probably jump there myself anyways!" Phoenix said, putting her hands on her hips with a hint of a smirk on her face. He couldn't say no to that!
"Still no," The Doctor uttered, picking up speed as if to get away from Phoenix. She pouted, trying to catch up to him. How could he say no to that? It wasn't nice! She could help with a lot of things!
Suddenly, a tingling feeling began spreading throughout her body, and Phoenix smirked. Time was finally on her side, for once. "See you there Doctor! I get to skip ahead! Ha!" Phoenix exclaimed, childishly sticking out her tongue at him before being sucked into darkness.
When Phoenix reappeared, she was standing in the middle of a desert. Well, what she assumed was a desert. There was sand as far as the eye could see, stretching out across the horizon and far beyond that. There was nothing but a little house, far away, that looked almost like a speck in the wind. The only trace of anyone actually existing in the barren desert were the small footprints trailing towards that small house far away. They were deep footprints, meaning someone had carried something heavy and had been taking their time. And Phoenix knew exactly who is was.
Phoenix trudged across the sand, cursing her choice in shoes. She had somehow decided heeled boots would be a great decision for going out and exploring. Of course, she didn't know she was going to be walking through miles of sand at the time, but she still hated her past self slightly.
Panting, Phoenix finally reached the little old house in the middle of nowhere. It looked worn, with the wood beginning to fade away and the roof looking as if it was about to cave in at any moment. Sand had collected in any crack or dent in any part of it. It obviously had been there for a long time. Stepping inside, Phoenix saw the Doctor looking at the Moment and trying to figure out how to open it.
"How, how do you work? Why is there never a big red button?" The Doctor said, beginning to get slightly frustrated over the contraption. Phoenix muffled her laughs, amused by the Doctor's distress. A slight scuffling sound was heard, and Phoenix ducked behind one of the crates that was laying around the place.
The Doctor stood up and walked over to the door, opening it to the bright shining light that was the outside world. "Hello? Is somebody there?" He questioned, basically yelling to thin air. Phoenix smiled slightly, peeking out from behind her box.
"It's nothing." Phoenix turned her head toward Rose… Sorry, Bad Wolf. Phoenix smiled, remembering the moment they had shared before. Well, not exactly them, but Rose and Phoenix. She looked almost the same; but with curled hair instead of straight hair, and golden eyes instead of her usual brown eyes. How Phoenix remembered that, she had no idea, but the point still stood. "It's just a wolf."
"Don't sit on that!" The Doctor exclaims, rushing over to her with a stern expression on his face. Phoenix smiled, the expression reminding her of a time with her own father. But tears soon filled her eyes, and a frown replaced the smile. She would never get to see her mother and father again, if things went like how she imagined they would. She would be stuck, traveling throughout time and space, constantly jumping from Doctor to Doctor, never having a stable relationship, or a family, or any of that kind of stuff. She would never get to have a domestic lifestyle. She had always wished to travel with the Doctor while she was back in her own universe, but now that she was actually in the Doctor Who universe, she would give almost anything to go back and have that lifestyle.
After sulking in her own self-pity for a few minutes, Phoenix realized there actually were events playing out around her, and she probably had to take part in them. Possibly not yet; but soon enough, she would. Peeking out from behind the box yet again, Phoenix began listening to the conversation.
"I hear you. All of you, jangling around in that dusty old head of yours. Though, I chose this face for Phoenix, who happens to be hiding. It's from both of your pasts though, so I'm sure it works for you as well. Or future. I always get those two mixed up." Rose said, glancing toward the box that Phoenix was hiding behind. Taking that as her cue, Phoenix stepped out from behind the box and out into the open.
"My past, his future. Hello interface. Or Rose, I don't know what you want me to call you." Phoenix said, making a funny face before turning to the Doctor. "Hello again, Doctor. I told you I would meet you here. Hope you didn't doubt me, Doctor." Phoenix had a big grin on her face, knowing the Doctor did indeed doubt that she was actually coming.
"Stop calling me Doctor." The Doctor said softly, his face going downcast, his eyes swirling with regret, remorse, sorrow, anything you could think of that had nothing to do with joy. It was all in his eyes. The man in the blue box, that had seen and done too much, yet kept up the façade of happiness, and saved worlds in repentance for what he had done in the past.
"That's your name though." Phoenix quietly said, her face softening dramatically. He was going through a tough time, she had to remember that. If she had to commit genocide she would be like that too. She couldn't begin to imagine what it would be like to completely wipe out her own kind. Of course, he didn't actually, but he still would in memory and that still was enough.
"It shouldn't be. I've been fighting this war for a long time. I've lost the right to be the Doctor." The Doctor said. Phoenix frowned, shaking her head sadly. He never lost the right to be called the Doctor. Not even the time he had saved the people during 'The Waters of Mars'. He may have lost the right to be called a Time Lord at that point, but never lost the right to be called The Doctor.
"Then you're the one to save us all." The Moment said slowly, glancing over at Phoenix ever-so-slightly. Of course, Phoenix was still confused about the Moment. Why would she choose that interface for her? Why wouldn't she choose someone for the Doctor?
The Doctor took a moment, before replying simply with, "Yes." He obviously could have gone into more detail; but detail wasn't his thing. He was a straight to the point kind of person. That wasn't a bad thing; it was great during times like these, but casual conversation had to be awkward.
"If I ever develop an ego, you've got the job." The Moment said humorously. The Doctor slowly stood up and trudged over to the Moment, a serious look on his face. As always. He had barely even smiled in the Day of the Doctor episode.
"If you have been inside my head, then you know what I've seen. The suffering. Every moment in time and space is burning. It must end, and I intend to end it the only way I can." The Doctor said softly, looking past the Moment's shoulder and into space. It looked as if he was remembering something.
"And you're going to use me to end it by killing them all, Daleks and Time Lords alike. I could, but there will be consequences for you." The Moment said, her voice almost sounding like it was filled with sorrow. Almost as if it really cared about Gallifrey. Phoenix didn't doubt it. This is Gallifreyan technology we're talking about here, it wouldn't be a surprise if that actually did exist.
"I have no desire to survive this." The Doctor said, frowning slightly as he turned away from the Moment. Phoenix walked toward the two, frowning herself.
"Then that's your punishment. If you do this, if you kill them all, then that's the consequence. You live. Gallifrey. You're going to burn it, and all those Daleks with it, but all those children too. How many children on Gallifrey right now?" Phoenix said softly, the sadness evident in her voice. She never lived on Gallifrey, that's true, but the Doctor had to live with this thought. The thought that he had burned all of the children on his own planet. That he killed all the sweet, innocent children who had just barely started their lives.
"I don't know." The Doctor said sadly, walking over and sitting on a log. Phoenix and the Moment followed, Phoenix sitting down next to the Doctor and the Moment sitting down next to her. It was almost as if Phoenix and the Moment were connected, considering how close they sat together. The Doctor noticed it as well, but they didn't comment on it.
"One day you will count them. One terrible night. Do you want to see what that will turn you into? Come on, aren't you curious?" The Moment said, smirking slightly as she opened a portal to the future above them. Phoenix smirked, knowing where it led. 3 Doctors. That would be a total and utter disaster, especially if two of them liked her. Or even all three. She didn't know what the War Doctor's feelings for her were like at all, he kept them so hidden.
"I'm opening windows on your future. A tangle in time through the days to come, to the man today will make of you." The Moment said, glancing up at the portal as it swirled around. A fez suddenly flew out of it and fell to the ground, startling the Doctor and the Moment. "Okay, I wasn't expecting that."
"I was!" Phoenix exclaimed, standing up and picking up the hat. "You want to know your future selves? This is the definition of one your future selves. Eleventh, to be exact. A fez. Silly, I know, but he loves them. And bowties. Bowties are cool in his eyes."
The Moment and The Doctor stared at her, confusion swirling in their eyes. Phoenix just smirked, brushing the hat off with her hand and putting it on her head. It looked slightly awkward on her, but really only the 11th Doctor could pull it off. He had the perfect hair for it.
"You ready to go see your future selves? From experience, they can be pretty cool. But fair warning, one of them forgets things a lot and is really silly, while the other can be kind of cocky and take things too seriously. Alright, warnings are over now, let's jump through." Phoenix said, sticking her hand out towards the Doctor with a smile on her face. She was excited for this adventure. Yes, it was rather serious, but it was fun.
The Doctor hesitantly placed his hand in hers. She smiled even brighter, before pulling him over to the portal. She looked up at it, then looked back at the Doctor. "We're going to have to jump. On three. One…Two…Three!" Phoenix exclaimed, jumping up along with the Doctor into the portal. The traveling just felt like when she traveled through time. In fact, it was probably along the same lines. The landing wasn't as nice though, as she landed on her hands and knees. But, of course, it was all worth it. This was one of her favorite episodes after all.
"Anyone lose a fez?"
Dun Dun Dun. I'm sorry I don't get to use the whole Jenny thing this time around, but that was kind of weak in my opinion anyways, so I've decided on a much more interesting idea. You'll enjoy it, don't worry.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed and all of that! See you next time!
