One of the Ghouls
beccalovesbumblebee- I know it has been forever since I have updated, and I could give you all excuses, but I think we all know sometimes life doesn't go your way sometimes and that is the way things just happen. I'm sorry I've been neglecting this story and all of my other ones lately. So I have stopped holiday updates, and I am going to finish up this story in two chapters. This was something, I was going to call "Sleeping Grimwood" but I decided to add this here, because my dear cousin Nightshadowv had suggested that I give some background on Miss Grimwood, and pull a ship that we both support Grimwood/Calloway.
Chapter 25
After Christmas most of the other holidays went on like you would expect them to, with a few minor quirks from Ms. Grimwood and the other ghouls. Things like Sibella's "blood" punch on Easter, Elsa's electrifying fireworks on the fourth of July, Winnie playing a groundhog to "cheat" winter out of its last couple of weeks, and Tanis' mummified hearts on Valentine's day.
(Miss Grimwood's P.O.V.)
A whole year had come and gone, and the girls were being sent home, once again. This was the time of year I dreaded the most, when the girls returned to their Fathers and the school became painfully quiet. Even Phantasma had somewhere to go this year, since her father had decided that Phantasma could go home with Danielle to Amity Park, instead of finding her a house to haunt, or leaving her here with me. Even my dragon Matches had somewhere to go, he was leaving with Coach Rogers and the Doo's. The packing, the sad goodbyes and the quiet summer ahead of me always made me long for the old days, when I was a gypsy. The last night the girls were here we all slept in the attic, that was our tradition, then when the sun rose they would head home to their fathers for the warm summer months. Shaggy planned on taking them first thing in the morning.
The girls woke me in the morning to say goodbye. After giving them all hugs, and kisses on their foreheads they loaded into Shaggy's red van and he pulled away with the usual barrage of waves from him and everyone in his van.
That was when the silence set in, and I finally noticed the letter sitting on my dining room table. It was addressed to Ms. Rosemary Grimwood in penmanship that could only come from one person, Cornell Calloway. I opened it expecting the usual letter about our next meeting for the upcoming school year, but this was exactly the opposite.
Rosemary,
That day I met you on the road to our schools changed me forever. I knew where you were headed, and that you were one of the beings that my Grandfather despised more than anything. That didn't stop me from falling in love with you, and loving you every day since then. You were the woman that I was meant to be with, but the one that my family would never accept. I want you to know that I love you with every fiber of my being, and that I always will.
I stopped reading for a moment, to gather my thoughts. James- I mean Cornell Calloway stopped acting like we had ever being anything more than acquaintances when I had taken over here, and he became the head of his family's military school after his Grandfather passed away. What was this about? Why was he saying this now? I was trying to figure this out that was when I realized that I didn't finish reading the letter.
I just needed you to know that, because it is almost too late for me to tell you the truth about how I feel about you. My parents, since I am their only child and I am unwed, have arranged for me to be married over the summer, soon after school lets out. I've known about this for some time now, but I didn't know how to tell you. I have wrote this letter over, and over again, but never had the courage to send it, now I don't have a choice. I wished I would've said a real goodbye to you, but this is the best I can do. Next time you see me I'll be a married man.
My heart will always be yours, Rosie Rayne.
The letter was signed James Travis Calloway.
My heart shattered, when the last few lines of the letter sunk in. A few tears lined my eyes, and my breath caught in my throat choking me with the sobs that refused to come out. I sat on the floor by my table, and read the letter over and over again, and each time it only just made the feeling in my heart and the feeling of despair deepen. "He's getting married. My- James- Cornell Calloway, is getting married." Saying that allowed only made it worse. I clenched my eyes shut and hoped that I was dreaming. The thought of James marrying some other woman, a woman that he didn't know, or love was killing me. Part of me was dying, and I knew in my heart that I could not let this happen.
I willed myself to my feet, and went to pack my bag. The way to his parent's place was engraved in my brain, like the secret passages that were long forgotten under the rivaling schools. The steps seemed, like they ran for miles, and every movement I made felt forced. It was like my body was fighting against my will.
"Come on, Rose," I commanded myself to move forward. "This is for James. You can't let him marry someone that he doesn't love, I need to tell him that I love him. That he doesn't need his parent's approval, as long as he has love." That was what gave me the push to keep moving forward, thinking of what I needed to tell James got me into my room and my traveling cauldron packed. It was then that I felt a hand on my shoulder.
I turned to face a woman that I had never met before staring at me angrily. She was clutching the letter in her hand the delicate paper was crumpled and torn in between her fingers. I immediately got into a fighting stance, and thought of every defensive spell that I could roll off of my tongue.
"I don't know who you are, but I warn you that if you are after my girls that you will never get to them. You would have to get past me first," I threatened this woman shaking her hand off of me and taking a step away from her.
"Oh well you see," the woman began her voice came out like the loud purring of a cat, "I'm here for you, Rosemary Grimwood. I have no interest in your girl ghouls. You are in my way, I need the heart of a mortal man to be under my spell to make me a more powerful witch. I will weave James Calloway into my web, and then I will be more powerful than my sister Revolta ever could've imagined."
That was when I really looked at her, her skin was a pasty green color, her hair unlike her sisters was a black instead of the green mass of hair Revolta had, and her eyes were a dark brown close to blood red. The thing that the sisters had in common was their evil laugh, which sounded like a middle aged man was laughing at his 1960's version of the three stooges.
"Revolta, you mean the former witch of the web. I won't let you do this to James, he'll see through your spell."
"No, no mortal man can resist my magic. The only thing that could break my spell, is the words, or kiss of his true love, and since that is you Rose once you are out of my way, no one will be able to stop me." The witch began laughing loudly again.
I opened my mouth to cast her out of my house, and return her to the dark hole that she came from.
Before I could speak, she chanted dropping a potion bottle at my feet, "Somnus!"
My body felt heavy immediately, I slumped slowly to the ground clutching my heart that was the part of me that hurt the most. The fact that it was going numb and that all feeling was gone scared me. "What did you do to me?"
The evil witch stopped laughing long enough to answer her. "Getting you out of my way. You will sleep until I marry Cornell mortal heart, and my spell will be complete. Until then enjoy your nap."
"Why do you want his heart so badly?" I asked desperately trying to grasp what little strength I had left.
"Because it was promised to me by his parents," the evil witch answered with another hardy laugh.
She placed the letter into my hands, as her parting gift. The last image that I saw, before everything faded into my dreams was that wicked witches smirking face standing over me. The fate of my love was no longer in my grasp, and his heart would soon be held by one of the evilest witches I had ever met.
(Dani's P.O.V.)
It had only been a couple of weeks since me, and Phanty came home with me to Amity Park. As soon as we got settled in Sam's pool house she was ready to fly back to Grimwood's.
"Phanty, we just got here, and the other ghouls are coming here tonight, why are you ready to go back to Grimwood's right this second?" I asked trying to understand the blue phantom.
"I feel like Miss Grimwood needs me, or us. She hates being home by herself, what if something happened to her?" Phanty explained and questioned me until I had to raise my voice to answer her.
"Phanty, she isn't alone she has Matches-"
"Matches left with us remember. He is the guard of the school. What if she was attacked?" Phanty turned on me.
"Who would attack her?" I asked.
"Plently of people that are after the ghouls she protects. Revolta, and evil witches like her, Dani. I am just worried about Miss G," Phanty trailed off finally laughing.
"When the girls come here at sundown, we will talk to them about it. If they decide that we should go then, we will all go to Grimwood's tonight," I said. It was finally setting in that Miss Grimwood may have a target on her head, like Danny did, just because of what they did.
Shortly after the sun set and the moon began to rise, the girls began to arrive. Sibella was the first to arrive, followed by Winnie who claimed she only beat her, because of her flying. Shortly after Elsa, and Tanis arrived. By that time Phantasma was bouncing off, well more like through the walls.
"Not that it isn't fangtastic to see you, but what has gotten Phanty so bent out of shape?" Sibella asked her green eyes gazing worriedly at Phantasma.
"She's-"
"I'm worried about Miss Grimwood, I feel like something horrible has happened, or will happen to her very soon," Phanty explained holding off on her laughter.
"Do you have any idea, what that horrible thing is, Phanty?" Elsa pressed, trying to get answers from the startled Phantom.
Phanty shook her head. "I just have a feeling, a strong feeling. If you guys don't want to come with me, I understand but I will not be able to calm down until I check on Miss Grimwood."
"Okay, Phanty. I will go with you to Grimwood's to check on Miss G." I sighed giving into Phantasma.
"I'm coming too," Sibella chimed in.
"And we are too," Winnie, Tanis and Elsa added.
"We'll split up, me and Phanty will shoot through the ghost zone, Sibella come by air, Elsa and Winnie follow her and Tanis..." I trailed off not sure what to tell her.
Elsa, and Sibella shared a knowing glance. If this came to danger they did not want their youngest ghoul in the crossfire. "Tanis, Danny and Sam need you here to help look out for ghosts. Even Tucker may need your help," Elsa tried to convince the young mummy. At the mention of Tucker, Sibella's eyes widened it was almost like she forgot her boyfriend lived here.
"Really, Elsie? Danny Phantom wants my help?" Tanis asked excitedly.
"Yes, he does. Maybe you can help Sam make dinner, or cookies," Elsa said, before the little mummy went to find Danny and Sam. "I really hate lying to her."
"I know, but we also don't want to put her in harm's way." Sibella tried make Elsa feel better about lying to Tanis.
"I know, well we need to get out of here, before she comes back to look for us," Elsa stated.
That was when we went our separate ways, me and Phanty headed into the ghost zone, and the others (besides Tanis) were headed to Grimwood's on foot.
(Danny's P.O.V.)
When Tanis came running to me at Sam's front door, I didn't know what to expect. "Tanis, what are you doing here?"
"Elsa told me that you needed my help to look for ghosts." The mummy reached up to give me a hug, and in response I pulled her into my arms and stepped into Sam's place. As I set her down Sam came down the steps.
"Danny, I told you I would be right down, were you really that impatient to go out on-" She paused when she noticed Tanis standing next to me. "Oh Tanis, Sweetwraps what are you doing here?" Sam came down the rest of the steps and gave her a hug.
While Sam was talking to Tanis, I checked my phone and saw that I had a text from Dani. "Dad, I am sorry that I left Tanis with you on your date night with Mom. Me and the other girls are making a run to Grimwood's to check on Miss G. Phanty has a feeling that something bad may have happened to her, we just couldn't risk Tanis if there is danger. I'll make it up to you."
"Elsa told me that you needed me here," Tanis explained.
Sam gave me a skeptical look, as she waited for an explanation. "We're going to make some cookies Tanis, meet us in the kitchen." Tanis bounded away her pony tail and pink bow flowing behind her.
"So, what's going on Danny?" Sam asked me.
"I guess the rest of the girls are headed towards the school. Phantasma has a feeling that something bad has happened to Miss Grimwood, and they went to go check it out. They left Tanis with us, so that she wouldn't be in danger should there be any," I explained.
"I guess, we are baking cookies tonight Danny," Sam exclaimed going into the kitchen to begin making cookies with Tanis.
(Dani's P.O.V.)
To say Phanty was right would be an understatement, we found Miss Grimwood in her bedroom laying face down on the floor. Me and Phanty picked her up and laid her on the bed. Phanty began trying to wake her, but the thing that interested me more was the fact that Miss Grimwood's cauldron was packed, and there was a note crumpled up in her hand. I began to read it, and what I read I didn't believe.
"Phanty, Miss Grimwood was leaving," I began hoping Phanty would wait to respond so I could gather my thoughts.
"She isn't waking up Dani," Phanty explained still trying to wake their school's head mistress.
"I don't think she is waking up from this Phanty. She was leaving to go find Cornell Calloway."
That Phanty laughed at. "Why would she look for that stick in the quick sand?"
"They are in love, Tas. She was leaving to prevent his arranged marriage."
"So, what does that mean for us?" Phanty asked giving up on trying to wake Miss Grimwood.
"We have to go find Cornell Calloway, and stop that wedding," I answered. "For Miss Grimwood."
A/N: Next chapter will be a look at Miss Grimwood's time at the finishing school before it was hers.
