Thank you for continuing to support my story. I appreciate it.

I don't own Bones.

Oooooooooooooooo

The jeep bumped along the road while Booth watched the forest glide by them. Brennan, reading a book in the back seat, was surprised when the jeep finally stopped. "Why did we stop?"

Laughing, Booth turned and looked at his bride, "We're here, Bones. Get your nose out of your book and look."

The road ended at a dirt track leading into the woods, which killed Booth's hopes of easy access to the dig. The driver of the jeep turned towards his charges and informed them, "It's not too far from here. The road was extended as far as we could go without entering the city. The trail will take us to the part of the dig that Dr. Rayburn is interested in. We were too afraid to extend the road further into the city because Dr. Rayburn was afraid we might damage something."

Hopping out of the jeep, Brennan grabbed her laptop case and her bag while Booth grabbed the remaining three bags that made up their luggage. Following Brennan and Robin Perry onto the trail, Booth noticed his wife's easy walk. A smile on his lips, he was glad that they had come on this dig. He knew that once Brennan was further along in her pregnancy she wouldn't really enjoy working in a primitive location or at least he didn't think so. He knew she was nervous about becoming a mother and he wanted her to be happy, so the dig would certainly help her to take her mind off of her worries, at least for the time being.

The trail breaking through the trees into a clearing, Booth looked up at a stone building partially covered with plant life. Curious, he placed his bags down and moved closer to it and looked up.

Inspecting the crumbling ruin where she stood, Brennan finally nodded her head, "Alright, I'd like to see Dr. Rayburn now."

Retrieving his bags, Booth followed Brennan and Robin as they walked on a faint trail around the pyramid and into another clearing containing some tents. Leading the way, Robin stopped at the end of the row of tents, reached over and flipped the entrance flap over, "This is your tent. If you'll stow your gear, I'll take you to Dr. Rayburn."

Tossing their bags just inside the entrance, Booth nodded at Brennan and they both followed the younger man to the manager of the dig. Spying Pat Rayburn talking to a young woman, Brennan strode over and called out, "Pat."

His attention captured by Brennan, Rayburn beamed a smile at her, "Temperance, I'm glad you could make it." Shaking her hand, he turned to look at Booth, "And you must be Booth." Shaking Booth's hand, Rayburn assured him, "I think you'll find everything is fine here for the moment. The local police come by and check on us once in a while and the locals have really been a big help. I think they're excited about the find just as much as we are."

Firmly shaking the Manager's hand, Booth smiled, "Good, I'm glad to hear it."

His enthusiasm bubbling over, Pat continued, "The locals actually knew about this place being here, but no one ever bothered coming out and exploring it until one of the local school teachers decided to see what the place looked like. He's from Mexico City and not a local himself. He was shocked when he found a small town instead of the few buildings the locals thought were here. Most of the area was covered in vegetation and he said he had to tear some of it away every time he came out this way just to get around. When he realized that there was actually a town here he asked the locals why no one from the government knew about it and they told him the buildings were old and that the stories handed down to them said that everyone that lived here died of some kind of plague. They weren't eager to come near the place since it's considered a charnel house and they weren't sure it was wise to let any outsiders know about it. I'm not sure why they told the school teacher, but Ricardo called a friend of his at Univerisdad Autonoma de Yucatan and Dr. Hector Guerra came out and had a look. Dr. Guerra and I have teamed up on digs before, so he called me to see if I'd like to come down and join his dig. He wanted my expertise and I agreed to run the dig on a day to day basis while he became the mission director."

Chuckling, Pat shook his head, "Dr. Guerra took a lot of heat hiring an outsider to come in and manage this dig and of course I had to add fuel to the fire by asking you to come down and help out."

Certain he didn't like what he was hearing, Booth interrupted, "Wait a minute, fuel to the fire?"

Unconcerned, Pat responded, "Politics, Booth. It's all politics. There are some in the Mexican government that didn't think it was necessary to bring in Yankees and Dr. Guerra had to do a lot of talking to get his way. He wants the best for the dig. Every dig I've ever been involved with has produced remarkable results and of course Temperance is the best forensic anthropologist in the world. Why not use the best? He finally got his way and here we are."

Shaking his head slowly, Booth complained, "It would have nice if you had mentioned all of this when you were recruiting Bones."

Annoyed at Booth's attitude, Pat responded, "Look, everything is fine. We're getting cooperation from the local police, the locals have been hired to help and they're getting a fairly generous salary. We're buying our food locally which is adding to their economy and they appreciate that we're here. No one is causing any trouble. It's fine."

Unconvinced, Booth crossed his arms and stared intently at the Site Manager, "What kind of security do you have here?"

Glancing around, Pat smiled and pointed, "We have four retired Federal Policeman working security. They've worked at other digs and they have a solid reputation. I've worked with them once before and they're good at their jobs."

A little mollified, Booth nodded his head, "Alright. I'll talk to them as soon as I can."

Shaking his head, Pat informed him, "You may of course talk to whomever you please, but your job from what I understand it is to be the body guard for Dr. Brennan and that's fine. Just remember that site security is already taken care of and I don't want you to interfere with our set up. This is not a Jeffersonian sponsored dig, so you will have to accept that your role is just a body guard, nothing else."

Worried that Booth would cause unnecessary trouble, Brennan placed her hand on his arm, "Booth . . ."

Shaking his head, Booth smiled, "Don't worry about it Bones. He's right this isn't a Jeffersonian sponsored dig. It's okay. I'm your body guard and that's just fine with me."

Surprised, Brennan gave Booth a tentative smile and then turned back to speak to Pat, "It would appear that I should have asked more questions, but since Booth doesn't have any objections then I have none either."

Relieved, Pat patted Brennan's arm "Good, very good."

ooooooooooooooooooo

So what do you think? Does this sound interesting?
