Thank you for reviewing my story. I really appreciate it.
I definitely don't own Bones.
Ooooooooooooooo
After dinner, Miguel invited Booth and Brennan to go with him into town. Pouring on his charm, Booth talked Brennan into going with him to get a cold beer and possibly some chocolate ice cream. "Come on Bones, you could use the break and I could use a cold beer."
Arriving in town, Miguel pointed out a small restaurant that he knew served food and beer, "Their beer is cold and their food is spicy. A great combination and because I know you really want some, they serve ice cream. They make it themselves."
Satisfied with the menu, Booth ordered beer and Brennan ordered a glass of guava juice and after arguing over the selection, both decided that chocolate ice cream would suit them. Sitting near the picture window watching pedestrians walk by, Booth enjoyed the fact that the ceiling fan over head whipped up a nice cool breeze that felt so good on his skin. While they were enjoying their snack and each others company, Booth noticed the young intern Victoria enter the restaurant with a handsome young man. Waving at the younger woman, Booth smiled and called out, "Hey Victoria do you want to join us? The ice cream is really good."
The young man with Victoria, seeing Booth waving at them, seemed to grow noticeably pale and a little nervous. A look of fear growing on his face, he suddenly pulled his girlfriend back towards the entrance, talking quietly but insistently to her. Puzzled, Booth stared at the young man as he pulled Victoria out of the open doorway and then across the street.
His eyes narrowing, he turned to look at Brennan, "I have a feeling I know who my attacker was." Pointing at the open doorway, Booth nodded his head slowly, "That guy saw me and he freaked out. My gut tells me that he might be worth looking at."
Curious, Brennan stared at the retreating figures crossing the darkening street and shook her head, "Because he left when he saw us?"
"Oh yeah." Rubbing the back of his head, Booth contemplated the situation, "That guy is definitely acting suspicious. I'll have a little talk with Jorge when we get back to camp."
Oooooooooooooo
After Brennan returned to examining the skeletons from the caves, Booth left the tent in search of Jorge. Finding the man sitting outside his tent, Booth stopped a few feet from him and hooked his thumbs in his belt, "I think I have someone you should look at. While me and Bones were in town, we saw Victoria with some guy. As soon as he saw me, he pulled Victoria out of the restaurant we were in and tried to get across the street and out of sight pretty quickly. Now in my book, that is not normal behavior."
Rubbing his chin, Jorge slowly nodded his head, "Yes that is not normal behavior in my book either." Standing, the head of security glanced around and spotted Hector entering his tent, "If you will excuse me, I think I will go have a talk with Hector about his intern. . . . Thank you, Booth. Thank you for bringing this to my attention."
His gaze moving down the aisle of tents towards where Brennan was, Booth grimly replied, "I want the asshole that's been going around hitting people caught. I don't want Bones' life jeopardized. Sooner or later whoever the attacker is, is going to make a mistake and he's going to kill someone. I want him caught as soon as possible before that happens."
In agreement with Booth, Jorge nodded his head, "Me too. Believe me, I need to find him before he murders someone."
Watching Jorge stalk down the aisle between the tents. Booth sighed, "Just this once, I wish I was still in the FBI and I had jurisdiction. Just this once."
Ooooooooooooooooo
The sun set and the temperatures cooling, Booth stood up and stretched, "Come on Bones. You need to rest. You don't need to work on these bones twenty four seven. You've got baby Tiger to think of."
Straightening, Brennan took off her gloves and then rubbed her lower back, "Yes, you're right." Moving over to where Booth was standing, Brennan kissed him and smiled, "I need some water before we go to bed and perhaps a light snack."
Following her out of the tent, Booth spotted Miguel sitting outside his tent, staring at the ground. Moving over to where Miguel was sitting, Booth stopped and asked, "What's wrong, Miguel?"
Slowly moving his gaze up to Booth's face, Miguel exhaled deeply, "Jorge has gone into town. Victoria is in her tent crying. She said that Jorge suspects her boyfriend of being the one who hit you and Marco and well, she's really upset. Jorge is going to contact the police while he is in town and see if Victoria's boyfriend is our thief."
His voice lower, Booth spoke softly to the young intern, "If Victoria's boyfriend is the thief then at least the attacks will stop now."
A sigh escaping his lips, Miguel turned to look over at Victoria's tent. "She really likes Erick. It will be a sad thing if it turns out that he was using her to get access to the dig. She's such a nice person and she doesn't deserve to be treated like this."
Patting Miguel on the shoulder, Booth walked down the aisle and joined Brennan in the mess tent for a snack. Entering the mess hall, he found her sitting near the entrance peeling an apple. Retrieving a bottle of water from the cooler along the back wall, Booth sat down next to his wife, "I guess we'll know by morning whether or not Victoria's boyfriend is our attacker. I feel sorry for Victoria."
Her apple peeled, Brennan paused to look at Booth, "I hope Victoria isn't part of the pilfering. If she is her career will be over before it starts."
Sipping his water, Booth let the cool water refresh his parched throat. "Yeah, I hope she's not part of it either. She seems like a nice kid."
Ooooooooooooooooo
The next morning, while Booth and Brennan were eating breakfast, Hector entered the tent and walked over to where the couple was sitting. With a heavy sigh, the project manager slumped down on the chair and folded his hands on the table, "The police searched Erick Mendez's house and found Marco's wallet and some ancient pots. They also found some jewelry that looked like it might have also come from this city. Erick probably found them on the skeleton in the floor of the house you were attacked in. I found three skeletons in the floor and two of them had been disturbed."
Relieved that the attacker had been found so quickly, Booth smiled grimly, "Well at least we should be safe now. Do you think Victoria had anything to do with this mess?"
Shaking his head, Hector responded, "No, she's just as much a victim as you and Marco. She's really upset though and blames herself. She's been telling Erick all about the dig and what everyone's jobs are and where and when they're doing them so she feels partly responsible for your injury and for Marco's. She's withdrawing from this dig and returning to the University. I tried to talk her into staying, but she's very embarrassed and . . . well, she didn't want to stay and I couldn't make her. Hopefully she'll get over this quickly and not let it affect her career. She has a bright future and none of this was her fault."
Glumly, Booth shook his head, "Poor kid, she really shouldn't blame herself. Can I talk to her, maybe I can talk her into staying?"
Sad about the entire situation, Hector shook his head, "She's already gone. Jorge drove her to town a little while ago. She's going to catch a bus and go back. When the dig is over and I go back to the university, I'll talk to her and try to get her to put this all behind her. She's really brilliant and I don't want her to waste her chance."
Grimly, Brennan interjected, "If you'd like me to talk to her, let me know, I may be able to help her. I'm not really good at personal communication, but I have an idea what she's going through and I may be able to help her."
Grateful, Hector smiled, "Thank you Temperance. I think that's a wonderful idea. Victoria really admires you and I think a word from you might help her. Perhaps you can see her at the University before you go home."
Oooooooooooooooo
So, is this still interesting?
