AYY LOOK A NEW CHAPTER! :D It's pretty short though.
There are spoilers for Mockingjay in here if you haven't read/watched it, you might not want to read this.
Also, I went back and forth on the scale of liking this chapter, so...
Read at your own risk.
The setting for this is sometime where Katniss is back at home, near the end of Mockingjay.
I do not own any of this. I think we have established that by now. ;P
My name is Katniss Everdeen.
I come from District 12.
There is no District 12.
I led the rebellion to save…something.
To stop President Snow. To stop the Hunger Games.
There is a Victor's Circle in District 12.
I live in the Victor's Circle.
I own that right.
Sunlight filters through the trees. It's bright and warm and refuses to let me stay put in my pool of self-pity. So I stand up to shut the sunlight away. I peer through the window as I reach for the draw, and what I see makes me scream.
Peacekeepers.
I back away, stumbling, and all at once the panic rushes upon me. I scramble up, rushing around for my bow. No, they'll take that away. Instead I grab my boots and my jacket and, at the last second, the bow anyways, because even if they take it away there's still a chance I can survive this. At least that's what I tell myself when I claw through the chimney and up to the roof and realize how many of them there are.
So I shoot and they shoot and a searing pain hits my leg as I fall from the roof but I will not give in so I fight and the last thing I remember is fighting before the blackness envelops and I wish that I had never reached for the draw.
.
I wake up in an empty room. My bow is gone, but they didn't take away my jacket. I pull it around me, shivering, by now certain that what happened wasn't just a dream. Then I stand up and turn around, clenching my fists so they won't shake.
In a movement, the door opens, and I decide to walk through it. There are peacekeepers stationed outside the door and across a hall. Cautiously I walk along, and the peacekeepers follow. The corridor has a glittering sheen to it, weaving around the walls and across the cold tile floor. I recognize the color. Silver.
Silver, not white. Snow's reign has ended, but I am yet to know who was so cruel as to replace him.
There is a lone door at the end of the corridor entirely made of glass. It's the kind that is bubbled and marred to purposely distort one's view. All I can see through it is green.
I twist the cold, glittering knob and push my way in.
And on the other side of that door is something I would have never expected, in all my wildest dreams.
"Finnick?"
Finnick turns around and stares, first in shock, then in growing horror as I run towards him.
"Katniss,-"
"YOU WERE DEAD!" I hug him hard, as if I don't he might disappear.
"I know." He emits a grin. "I don't know how...but I'm back, girl." Then he remembers what he was going to say, and the smile disappears. Tentatively I let go and step back, afraid that he'll confirm my realization. He does.
"We're back in the Games, Katniss," He says, forlornly.
We're back in the Games, I recapitulate.
'We're back in the Games, I reminiscence' was what I was originally going to put, but apparently reminiscence means 'an enjoyable recollection of past events,' which was not what I am trying to convey, so it got changed to recapitulate, which is ok because that's a good word as well. (still not the word I was looking for, though...)
I listened to The Hanging Tree for the first part of writing this, or rather the actual scene from the movie, which led to deleted scenes, which led to finding out that that Finnick had an accent, which led to an entirely unrelated topic which led to finding out that half the cast of Divergent was British. ._.
Who knew, right?
Anyways, thanks for reading this chapter. I probably will be writing in third person from now on, for the reason that I only did first person for these two because that was the style of the author. I will also try and make it less serious, which I did not plan it to be. Majorly, anyway. I mean, of course there will be serious parts, but there's also going to be humor and adventure and nefarious plots. That's what I'm aiming for.
