Disclaimer: I own nothing except Abbey and her family.

a/n: I'm really sorry for the delay in posting a new chapter for this story. It's May and the weather is FINALLY starting to be nice so I've been working on getting my yard ready for summer and so my want to write has been pretty much down but I'm using the cool of my basement and rainy days to write this chapter.

Last chapter, we saw Abbey struggle with the fact that Pete was moving out and moving on with Gabby and subsequently having a best friend heart to heart and everything is good between the two as usual and her and Matt spend one last evening with the Darden's before they move as well so in this one, we see her as well as the whole firehouse struggle with that departre. This chapter is extra long since I tackle both departures in here so I hope you enjoy it.

One Week and a half later, Abbey's POV.

For the past week or so, I concentrated on going to shift and spending time with Matt and Pete outside of it. On the odd days that I wasn't blue, thinking about the fact that Pete was moving out and the Darden's were moving away, we went for a few date nights at Molly's and tonight was one of those nights. Most of 51 was there, including chief, enjoying their time down after a long week of shifts. I sat at the bar with Matt, nursing a beer and lost in my own train of thoughts.

"Baby, are you ok?" He whispered in my ear.

"Huh. What's that?" I snapped out of it and looked at him.

"Are you ok?" He moved a strand of hair out of my eyes and furrowed his brows.

"Yeah, I'm good." I smiled at him.

"No you're not. What's going on in that head of yours?" I looked him in the eyes and decided that lying to him would get me nowhere.

"Apprehending tomorrow."

"I'll be there with you so everything will be ok."

"It's going to be pretty lonely in there when Pete leaves."

"More uninterrupted time for us now." He smirked and wagged his eyebrows playfully, making me giggle. "That's better."

"Thanks for cheering me up." I kissed him. "Christopher Herrmann." I bellowed to Herrmann that was at the other end of the bar, serving Severide and Shay. He laughed and came in our direction.

"What can I do for you kid? Lieutenant." He gave Matt a nod.

"Shots please."

He squinted his eyes at me before replying. "Coming right up." He exchanged a glance with Matt and poured me two shots.

"Help me out baby?" He looked at me as if I was an alien and I pulled his left hand closer to me and ran my tongue on it and put some salt, making him laugh. I licked it down before downing the shot and taking the lemon in my mouth, helping the burning liquid down. I repeated my actions with the second one and smiled at Matt. I decided that I wanted to have some fun instead of sulking. I took a sip of beer when a song came over the speakers and all I wanted to do was dance. "I love this song." I smiled at Matt and walked around him to grab Sylvie who was obviously flirting with a more than willing Otis so we could go dance. She giggled as I pulled her behind me and we found Leslie and Gabby already dancing to the beat. The four of us started dancing together, obviously with a slight buzz from drinking.

Molly's Matt's POV

I went along with Abbey's shot idea, laughing as she looked like she was hell bent on enjoying herself instead of being sad. I knew that Pete moving was weighing a lot on her so I just let her have her fun. She took a pull of beer before excitedly moving around me to grab a flirting Brett and head to the dance floor.

"How's she doing?" Herrmann came back in front of me while she was dancing.

"Not looking forward to tomorrow but I think she wants to have fun tonight." He followed my eyesight to where the four paramedics were dancing and laughing.

"Keep on a eye on her will ya?"

"Sure thing Herrmann. Just let her have some fun with the alcohol, we can cut her off if it becomes too much."

"Sure thing Casey."

"I'll keep her safe I promise." I smiled at him as he left to serve more customers and I drank more beer as I watched the girls dance and laugh.

"Looks like the girls are having some fun." Severide sat on a stool next to me and looked at the girls too.

"Yeah."

"How is Abbey doing with Mills moving in with Dawson?"

"Not so great but she'll be ok." I smiled at him.

"I'm pretty sure you'll make her all better." He chuckled, his mind always going to that place.

"Not everything goes away with a good lay Severide." He looked at me like I had grown two heads. "Ok maybe it does." I laughed. "But I don't think that's what she'll need when he leaves tomorrow."

"Probably not."

"Plus, she'll most likely be nursing a hangover." I pointed in the girl's direction, all four of them doing more shots.

"Perfect." He rolled his eyes laughing. "Looks like we'll have our hands full and I'm pretty sure Brett will be leaving with Otis from what I've seen so far."

"You've noticed it to huh?"

"What's not to notice? She's been all over him since she got here." It was indeed hard to miss. When I looked in the direction the girls were, they were already gone.

"Looking for someone lieutenant." She whispered in my ear.

"You." I wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into me. "Having fun with the girls?"

"Absolutely." She smiled before taking the beer from my hand and taking a sip.

"How many have you had?" I asked as she handed me the beer back. She pretended to think before she giggled.

"Probably too much but I'm having fun."

"I bet Casey will have fun picking up the results of that in the morning." Pete came close to us with Gabby draped all over him.

"Look who's talking." I pointed to Dawson.

"We have had a long week." Dawson slurred slightly. "So we're entitled to a little bit of drunken fun." She smiled at us. Abbey was still wrapped in my arms, facing me.

"That we are." She answered looking over her shoulder. She shifted so she was now at my side, my arm never leaving her. She ran her fingers through my hair and I just looked at her, smiling. Even if she was drunk, she could still have some effect on me with just a single touch.

"Ready to go home baby?" I stared into her eyes and kissed her.

"Yes." She kissed me back, putting her hand on my cheek. I let her go so she could go hug the girls and then Pete.

"I will see you later, just not too early?"

"I promise." He laughed along with the rest of us. We left and I drove back to her house. As soon as we walked in and she closed the door, her lips were on mine.

"I'm glad we're home."

"Me too." she kissed me again, this time with more passion.

"Let's get you to bed." I knew she was trying to do but I didn't want her to regret it.

"Make love to me Matt."

"Abbey." I whispered.

"I had fun tonight, I just want to finish the evening, just you and me." She wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me again.

I pulled her closer to me by her waist and kept kissing her. I ran a hand under her top and pressed myself to her. It always amazed me how well our bodies fitted together. I effortlessly picked her up, bridal style, making her squeal before she kissed me again and I walked us up the stairs and into her bedroom. I gently placed her on the mattress and resumed kissing her. Suddenly, making love to her wasn't the distraction she had originally tried to make me believe. Our bodies moved as one, giving her as much pleasure as possible before both falling over the edge, sheer with sweat and panting. I nuzzled in her neck, breathing heavily while she ran a hand though my hair, her breathing matching mine.

"You'll be my undoing." I mumbled in her neck, causing her to chuckle.

"I love you." She whispered, making me look at her and smile.

"I love you too." I pulled her with me as I rolled us to our sides and pulled her body to mine. She snuggled closer to me and tucked her arms between our chests, resting both hands on mine as I draped my arm around her waist. "Good night." I pressed a soft kiss to her lips.

"Night." She closed her eyes and quickly fell asleep. I pulled the covers a bit higher over us before closing my eyes and falling asleep myself. I woke up, feeling her stir in my arms but never wake up. I managed to pull away from her without waking her. I pulled some boxers on and went downstairs to start a fresh pot of coffee and some breakfast, knowing she would wake up at any time.

Abbey's POV

I woke up and stretched my arms to find the spot next to me empty. I heard some noise coming from the kitchen so I found my panties and Matt's shirt and got dressed before going down. My head was not pounding as much as I first expected it to, which I was grateful for. When my foot touched the floor at the bottom of the stairs, my nose was filled with the aroma of coffee.

"Morning." My voice was still heavy with sleep but Matt turned around when he heard it.

"Hey." He said softly. "How's the head?"

"I think I'll live." I laughed softly, trying to prevent the light pounding in my head from getting stronger.

"Take those." He pointed to two ibuprofens and a tall glass of orange juice.

"Thanks." I took both at once and downed the glass of juice in four gulps.

"Breakfast is ready." He put two plates of french toast on the table and I took a seat, pulling my left leg up to my chest.

"This is heaven." I all but moaned as the first bite went down making him laugh.

"Eat up, we have a long day."

"Yeah." I wasn't looking forward to Mills's arrival because after that, it would become definitive. I would have this house all to myself.

"Where is your head at?"

I looked around the kitchen, little reminders of Peter lying around. "Hoping that the silence won't become too much. There's a lot of memories here."

"I can only imagine." He rubbed my arm up and down.

"This was delicious baby." I got up with my empty plate and kissed him.

"Thanks. I figured you needed a pick me up this morning."

"You know me too well."

"I'd like to think so. So what's next?" He placed his empty plate in the sink and leaned against the counter.

"I need to shower and brush my teeth to get the taste of alcohol out of my mouth. Did I drink that much?"

"I saw you do two shots and drink two beers. I have no idea how many shots you did with the girls."

"Probably too much." I stiffled a yawn. "Ok shower time if I don't want to fall asleep." I went upstairs as Matt put the dishes in the dishwasher before coming upstairs with me. We took individual showers although it was tempting just to share the water instead.

"You can't be dressed in nothing but that when I get out of shower and expect me to show some restraint." I turned around at Matt's voice. I was standing in front of my dresser in nothing but my underwear, trying to find something to wear.

"That coming from the man who has nothing more than a towel wrapped around his waist with water still dripping from his hot body." I turned around and leaned against my dresser, both arms on the side of my body, my eyes only on the hot man standing in front of me, walking slowly towards me. My eyes ran up and down his body, thoroughly enjoying the view.

"Do you like what you see?"

"Oh yeah." I licked my lips just before his came crashing on mine in a hungry kiss. His hands were on either side of me, supporting his weight on my dresser. "I knew we should have shared a shower." His lips were mere inches from mine when he ended the kiss.

"We'll have to when I'm done with you." He growled as he pulled my body to his and kissed me again, want evident in his eyes and my heart picking up in pace with every second that ticked. Just as he pressed my back on the bed and had his lips all over my neck, the doorbell rang. He buried his head in my neck and huffed his annoyance.

"Abbey, Matt?" Peter's voice could be heard downstairs.

"I swear that guy has the worst timing."

"Right there with you." Right now what we both needed was a very cold shower. He quickly climbed off me and changed in his clothes while I quickly pulled sweatpants and a t-shirt.

"We'll be right down." I yell from my doorframe.

"Meet me downstairs." I quickly kiss Matt and bounce down the stairs, happy to see Pete but also sad that I'll be helping him move the last of his boxes to his truck. "Morning." I say as perky as possible.

Pete looked at me oddly before answering. "I didn't expect you to be in this state this morning."

"I can hold my liquor that's all." I chuckled.

"I can see that."

"So, what do you have left to get? Put me to work." I was hoping that I was convincing enough that both Pete and Matt would's see through the perky exterior. Today would definitely be a long day. Matt came down a few minutes later and helped us grab the rest of Pete's boxes so we could put them in his truck. It took us about an hour once that was done to go through the house and put what Pete had forgotten to take with him.

"So this is it." He came walking in the house just as he finished loading his truck with the last few boxes.

"This is it." I echoed, a little bit lost in my own head.

"Hey, it's going to be ok." His words snapped me back to reality. The space between us quickly became un-existant as I wrapped my arms around his neck and he placed his around my waist, squeezing me tightly. There was a slight difference in hight between us so my head was burring in his chest, tears stinging my eyes.

"I'm going to miss you." My words got caught in my throat.

"I'm not going anywhere." He kissed my forehead and as I closed my eyes to relish in the feeling, a few tears escaped my eyes. He pulled me back a bit and wiped them with his thumb. "You will see me every day and you will call me and you'll see me on shift. You'll see me so much that you'll be tired of it and want me to go away." I chuckled lightly, wiping the rest of my tears with the back of my hand and hugged him again.

"Ok." I managed to say.

"Good." I pulled away from his embrace and he rubbed both my arms up and down in a comforting way. "Take good care of her Casey." He extended his hand to Matt and he shook it.

"Will do." They both smiled at each other while I leaned against the wall, willing my legs to support my weight. Pete kissed me one last time on the forehead before he left. I closed the door behind him and leaned against it, letting a sob escape my lips. Matt was quickly in front of me, taking me into his arms and letting me cry in his chest. After a few minutes, my cries subsided and Matt just kept holding me.

"I'm ok." I mumbled into his chest.

"Are you sure?" I was still securely tucked in his arms.

"Yes."

"I can cancel my construction work and we can spend the time together."

"No." I finally found my voice back. "No I won't let you get away from your other engagements to babysit a total mess." I slightly pulled away from him.

"It's ok, it's just a small job that can wait."

"No." I said more firmly.

"Ok ok." He chuckled. "You're the boss."

"And don't you forget it." I smiled back at him.

"Ok. I'll be back in a few hours but if you need anything, anything at all, I want you to call me.

"Sure but I'll be fine." He let go of my and placed a kiss on my lips. It was soft and tender, nothing like where we were headed before Pate arrived.

"I love you." He pecked my lips.

"I love you too." I smiled at him before he left. I closed the door behind him and leaned against it. "Alone." I whispered. I knew I said I was fine but that was the last thing I was. A ache settled into my chest as I got up from the door and I did what I did best when that happened: I cleaned.

Pete's POV

I drove back to Gabby's place, thinking. If I admitted it to myself, I was sad leaving that house. Ever since Abbey's mother had put it in her name a few years back, the first thing she asked me was to move in with her.

"Peter Mills." Abbey shouted as she walked into my mom's house.

"Hey, what are you doing here?"

"Well how would you like to move in with me?"

"You're moving out?" I couldn't believe that she had found a place and that I didn't even know about it. In fact, I was pretty sure she hadn't said a word about looking for a place.

"As a matter of fact, I am staying exactly where I am." Now I was utterly confused.

"My mother just put the house in my name." She squealed, jumping up and down and handed me the official documents that said the house was now her property.

"Oh My God when did that happen?" I looked the papers over.

"This week and she just surprised me with it."

"Than yes." She smiled and jumped in my arms.

"We are going to have so much fun living together.

And from that moment on, we shared everything in that house. We went through bad break-ups, death, graduation and everything in between. I would sure miss her making us late-night snacks when we couldn't sleep after a long day at the diner or our cramming sessions for school but I wasn't regretting anything about my move-in with Dawson. She had been the first girl to really hold my heart that way and I loved her with all of it in return so this was the natural step to take. I walked up the stairs to her place with two small boxes that I put on the ground by the front door.

"Hey baby I'm home." I called to the empty apartment.

"I'm in here." I followed the voice to our bedroom. "How did it go?" She asked as I leaned against the doorframe, my arms crossed against my chest. She was folding a whole basket full of clothes.

"It was ok."

"Tell me the truth Pete."

"She broke down before I left."

"And how are you feeling?" I was so overly concerned with Abbey that my feelings weren't so important right now.

"A bit sad but taking this step is the right one for us." I walked into the room and grabbed her by the waist and hugged her.

"The right one." She smiled up at me as I released her. "Just give her some time. The both of you have to get used to living apart."

"And the voice of reason has spoken again." I laughed. I kissed her again and went to get the rest of my things out of my truck and into our apartment.

Abbey's POV

I was in the kitchen, furiously scrubbing down the counter. I moved around methodically cleaning a surface and moving to another when I was satisfied with it. The phone was lying around on the island and I had picked it up a few times and even pressing the call button to call Matt but hung up each time, trying not to pass as the cry baby that wasn't able to deal with something like this. Once the kitchen was done, I moved to the powder room and reserved the same treatment to it. I managed to do the top floor as well but when I got to what was once Pete's room, it hit me like a ton of brick. I was alone in this house, truly alone for the first time in as long as I could remember. I closed his door and went back downstairs to do the only room I had left to clean, the living room. First, I straightened everything up and then proceeded in cleaning every piece of furniture that needed cleaning. I was rubbing a particularly stubborn spot on the coffee table that I barely heard the front door open and then close.

"Abbey?" Matt's voice called out to me but I kept rubbing. "Abbey, baby, what are you doing?"

"Cleaning." I didn't look up at him, just kept rubbing.

"Hey, stop it." I felt his hand around my wrist and he gently pulled me up so I was face to face with him.

"I have to get this done." I didn't even look him in the eye.

"You should have called me." He lifts my head so I look at him.

"I'm fine." I insist.

"You don't need to lie to me Abbey." He says softly.

"What if I need to lie to myself?" A tear escapes from my eyes and instantly he takes me in his arms and holds me there. I grab onto him for dear life and try to get my breathing under control.

"It's going to be ok I promise." He whispers in my hair.

"Ok." I simply said in his chest.

"Come on and sit down." He pulled me down with him on the couch and I lifted my legs up and curled them under me.

"What's in the bag?" I hadn't noticed it before just now.

"I figured you this would need some ice cream." He pulled out my favourite kind with two spoons.

"Well you can't go wrong with chocolate chip cookie dough flavour." I took a spoon while he opened it and I took a spoonful directly from the pint.

"No you can't." It was the middle of the afternoon and diner was going to come around soon but we were just content in being cuddled together, eating ice cream. "Are you ready for tomorrow?"

"Are you trying to kill me?" I interjected.

"No." He chuckled. "But I'm trying to make us go through it together."

"I'd like that." I put another spoonful in my mouth. "How did that job go?"

"It went smoothly, right on schedule."

"Maybe one day you could help me do some work on his place."

"Sure." We stayed like that for a good part of the evening until Matt ordered some chinese food. The rest of the evening was uneventful and we ended up in bed around eleven. I was mentally exhausted from the day so as soon as my head hit the pillow, sleep came and claimed me. I woke up to my alarm at five thirty and we got ready for our shift. On the several occasions where Matt had spent the night here before a shift day, we settled into a morning routine that worked well for us. We decided on my truck this morning and we made our way to 51. He had his arm around my shoulder as we walked in and I was laughing at a story he was telling me about one of his first days as candidate.

"Morning lieutenant." Boden called to Matt before we separated.

"Stay safe out there." He kissed me.

"You too lieutenant." I winked and smiled at him before heading to my locker. I was changing when Shay and Brett walked in, a look in their eyes.

"Hey, are you ok?" Shay sat down next to me.

"Peachy why?" I looked from one girl to the other, flanking me on each side of the bench.

"I need your help." Brett exclaimed from my right.

"You ladies have a funny look in your eyes, what's the matter?" Brett looked around her before talking again.

"I slept with Brian." She confessed.

"I knew it." I exclaimed happily but my smile disappeared. "And what is wrong with that?"

"He asked me out on a date and I have nothing to wear."

"We can go shopping tomorrow after shift if you want."

"That's the problem. He asked me out for diner tomorrow evening and if I want to be good to go I need to sleep."

"And since the two of you look about the same body wise, I figured she could ask you to borrow some clothes." Shay said.

"Yeah sure." I chuckled. "We can do a pit stop at my place after a call, no problem."

"Thank you." I could see the worry fall off Brett's face as I pulled her in for a hug. Just as I was done tying up my boots, the paging system went off.

Truck 81, Squad 3, Engine 51, Ambulance 61 and 44, battalion chief 25, multiple vehicle accident corner of Baldwin Avenue and Judd.

"Come on ladies." We moved quickly through the firehouse and went to our rigs before driving off towards the scene. "So where is he taking you?"

"To this new Italian restaurant on Madison Avenue."

"I heard the food was amazing."

"See, I have no clothes to go to that kind of place." She said from the passenger side.

"I have something that would be perfect for you." I smiled at her before looking at the road. We arrived on scene ten minutes later and hopped out to assess everyone's injuries. Ambo 61 was already treating the driver of one of the cars while Squad was trying to pry open the doors to a minivan full of teenagers and a mom that was bleeding from the head. Truck was taking care of the third car that only had two passengers, a couple, who seemed to only have minor injuries.

"I got the couple with truck, see if Squad needs help." Brett instructed me. I wheeled the gurney towards the minivan and waited for someone to acknowledge me before talking. Severide saw me from the corner of his eye as Mills and Capp were working on the door.

"What do we have lieutenant?"

"Minivan full of high school kids coming back from a soccer tournament. The mom's kid says she had slurred speech when it happened, could be a heart attack?"

"How much longer until you get those doors opened?"

"Five, ten minutes, give or take."

"She might not have that long." I walked towards the van to see if I could get a better reading on the mom. The front passenger door had it's window opened just enough for me to talk and the kid sitting there was coming to. "Hey, I'm Abbey, I'm here to help you. What's your name sweetie?"

"Mark."

"Ok Mark, tell me, does it hurt anywhere?"

"I.. I don't think so."

"Is she your mom?" He nodded yes so that was a good sign. "Can you check for a pulse?" He did as he was instructed and pressed his fingers to her throat. "Can you feel it Mark?"

"Yes."

"Alright guys hurry up and get that door opened." I said. It took no more than five minutes before the door was opened and the woman was c-collared and put of the gurney with Squad's help. We wheeled her to the ambo as Brett joined us after tending to the couple in the other car. We lifted her in and Brett took the back while I went to drive us at Chicago Med. We met up with 61 that had just finished their paperwork and we dropped off the mother and did our before we were on our way.

"We're going to make a stop at my place, we'll see you back at 51."

"Alright." Gabby smiled at us and the girls left ahead of us. We drove to my place and went directly for my room.

"Give me a few minutes to find what I'm looking for." I quickly made my way though the closet and my dressers before I found what I was looking for. It was a navy blue peplum top with black skinny jeans. Brett sat patiently on my bed while I found the clothes. "Go in the bathroom and try these on while I find the shoes. All my boxes of shoes were at the bottom of my closet and I quickly retrieved what I was looking for. Brett came out a few minutes later and she looked amazing.

"Now that is HOT."

"You think so?" A slight blush crept on her face.

"Totally. Otis won't know what hit him. Try these on." I handed her a medium heal, black peep toe show and she easily slipped on and I couldn't refrain myself from whistling at her. With the right hairstyle, this would be perfect. The blue of the top was complementing her blue eyes and it just looked really good on her.

"Thanks again for this, I don't know what I'd do without you."

"That's what friends are for. Come on, I'll let you get changed and I'll wait for you downstairs."

"Ok I'll be right down." Less than five minutes later, she was down with the clothes in hand and we placed them in a bag before leaving for 51 again. I digged for gossip about her night with Otis but she was way too shy to even spill one detail. We arrived back at 51 in no time and made our way to the common room where everyone was minding their own business of talking amongst themselves. I walked towards Matt's office since he wasn't at his usual spot and not surprisingly, he was at his desk writing the incident report for our latest call.

"Hey." I knocked softly on his doorframe.

"Hey, what took you so long to come back? I was worried."

"We stopped by my place after we dropped the mom off at Chicago Med."

"Now I don't like that, are you ok?"

"Yeah. Brett has a date with Otis tomorrow and she needed to borrow some clothes."

"Is that so?" He turned his chair to face me completely and smirked.

"Oh yeah and she looked hot, he won't be able to resist her."

"I hope it works out."

"Me too. So when are the Darden's stoping by?"

"Heather said they'd stop by on their way out of town." He took a look at his watch when the overhead pager went off.

Fire eaters in the house.

"Right about now." He got up from his chair and took me by the hand towards the apparatus floor. Heather was walking in with the two boys. I could see the moving van parked in front of the house and the boys ran directly in our arms. Matt took Ben and hoisted him up in his arms and Griffin wrapped his arms around my waist.

"Hey guys." I smiled at them. "Heather." I kissed her cheeks with Griffin still attached to me.

"Hey Abbey." She smiled and kissed Matt too.

"So today's the day huh?" Matt asked Ben.

"Yeah, the truck is full and everything."

"I think the rest of the guys want to say bye to you." As if on cue, the rest of the house walked through the doors and on the apparatus floor. Everyone took turn in hugging them and saying how they'd miss them and they left Kelly Matt and me for last. Kelly promised them cool uncle outings and hugged them both tightly with a promise of coming down to Milwaukee the next time he'd have enough free time and then he hugged Heather goodbye. Then it was my turn.

"Be good for your mom ok?" I crouched down in front of Ben and ran a hand through his hair before hugging him tightly and kissing his cheek. I saw Matt say bye to Heather and then I moved on to Griffin.

"I want you take care of your mom and your little brother ok?"

"I'll try."

"And if you need anything, anything at all or you just want to talk, you give me a call." I handed him a folded piece of paper.

"Anytime?"

"Sure. I'll answer every time you call except if I'm on a call."

"Thanks." He wrapped his arms around my neck and I kept him to me a little while longer while Matt was saying goodbye to Ben. I kept Griffin to me and I got up and Matt help Ben in a tight hug. He looked up at me with tears in his eyes and I mouthed that it would be ok. I released Griffin as Matt came to say his goodbyes but I stayed close.

"Your dad would be so proud of you Griffin and how far you've come. I'm proud of you too and I love you will all my heart."

"I love you too uncle Matt." and Matt pulled him in his arms and clutched onto him tightly.

"And promise me that you'll come see us sometimes and I promise I'll go see you guys too."

"Ok." Ben came and joined them as the three hugged before releasing each other. My heart was breaking for myself but it broke most of all for Matt because these three people that were family, not by blood but by bond were leaving town and suddenly the world would be a little more empty. Everyone waved at them as they left and Matt suddenly turned around and went to his office. I watched him go and decided to let him be alone a little bit. I let fifteen minutes pass before I left to see how he was doing but the overhead system called everyone to a a road accident downtown.

"Stay safe out there." I called after him and he looked at me with red eyes, obviously he had been crying but he smiled nonetheless.

"You too." And we all left for the accident. When we got on scene, it wasn't as bad as we first had thought. Dawson and Shay had left with the patient and Brett and I packed up to leave. We were stopped at a red light, waiting for it to turn green and Truck was right behind us.

"Are you ready for your date?" I asked Sylvie as the light turned green and I started driving.

"A little nervous." She smiled but the only thing I saw was horror in her eyes.

"ABBEY LOOK OUT." She shouted as I looked in the direction she was before everything turned black.

a/n: I hope you guys don't hate me too much with this ending. At first I wanted this to be part of the next chapter but thought it was better suited for the ending of this one. I hope you'll take a few minutes to leave a review after you're done with your read. There's only seven chapters left plus an epilogue so stay tuned for more.

Up next: The girls from 44 get into an accident and lives hang in the balance. How will Matt take it and how will it change his outlook on life? mostly Matt's POV.
