++++++ Here, have another chapter! Sorry it's a bit late, I had birthing classes tonight. I do not own! Apart from PJ! Cheers! ++++++
Sixty-Eight
"Morning sleepy-head," spoke a familiar voice that pulled me out of my semi-slumber. Soft touches danced across my abdomen, tracing circles over my flesh.
I moaned. "Rickā¦don't start something you can't finish."
"Who said I couldn't?" he grinned as I opened my eyes. "Beth's still looking after Judith. I thought we could spend the day together."
I chuckled and rolled over to face him. "And you miss out on the crops? Matt would kill me if I just decided not to show up for guard duty."
"Swap with Lucas," Rick suggested, trailing kisses up my neck. "He's swapped with you enough to steal a kiss or two from Beth. Teenagers."
I snorted. "Teenagers, says the man with his hand on the inside of my thigh. You woke up in a good mood, Mr Grimes."
"If things were normal, we'd be on our honeymoon, Mrs Grimes," Rick grinned.
I rolled my eyes. "If things were normal, I'd be in the marines, you'd still be in a coma. None of this would have happened and I'd never have met you."
"Mighty big word, 'if'," Rick mumbled into my neck.
"I swear to god I am too old for a hicky," I told him, a giggle escaping my mouth. "Tell me where you'd rather be," I smiled, straddling his hips.
"Anywhere with you," Rick replied.
I snorted. "That is the cheesiest line ever. There has to be somewhere that you'd rather be than here. Me-I'd rather be in my apartment arguing with a five-year-old over why Mulan is the single most kick-ass Disney woman ever. Jade prefers Cinderella. The whole rags to riches story I think." Rick sat up and wrapped his arms around me, when he leant in to kiss me I put my hand on his chest. "I've morning breath," I told him.
"Don't care," he replied.
I shrugged and kissed him.
Twenty minutes later and a make-out session worthy of putting a teenager to shame, the two of us made our way to the showers.
"You two shouldn't even be out of that cell," Tyreese teased as he passed us in the corridor heading to the showers. "Or you done already?"
"Bite me," I chuckled. "World doesn't stop just because we got married. Things to do today, Tyreese. Going out on a run."
"Way to spend a honeymoon," Rick spoke behind me.
I grinned and grabbed his hand. "On the plus side, I'll make it up to you in the showers."
Sophia woke me up just as the sun was starting to set, letting me know that her mum had sorted something out for dinner using what was in the house.
When I got to the table, most of the food had been set out for me, Lizzie and Myka. I raised an eyebrow and resisted poking at it but Carol gave me a stare worthy of my mother, forcing me to sit down and eat. "Thanks, Carol."
"Sleep okay?" Tyreese asked me.
I nodded. "Yeah. Sorta. Keep dreaming. Not sure if it's just cause of what's happened or the fact I miss Rick."
Carol gave me a sympathetic look. "I feel the same way about Matt. But, we can't worry about what we're missing, just worry about surviving for now. You'll be okay, PJ. We'll all be okay."
I sighed and chewed on some food. "Anything happen whilst I was asleep?"
Carol glanced over at Lizzie who was eating her food with Myka and Sophia near the window. "Lizzie was playing with a walker."
I rubbed my nose. "Again? I caught her doing that at the prison. She'd named the walker."
She nodded her agreement. "She named this one too."
"So what do we do?" I asked her. I glanced over at the two sisters. "Their mother didn't really give them the skills they'd need to survive in a world like this. They're dead weight. Lizzie's thinks the walkers are people and Myka's too weak to do what they need to do to survive."
Tyreese sighed. "They're just kids, PJ, Carol. Let them be kids for a bit."
I shot him a glare. "You can't be a kid these days. Hell, once HG's old enough I'm pretty sure they'll have a knife in hand. We can't raise our kids like we were raised. Not anymore. I just wish there was somewhere safe out there. Huge walls, a functioning government. There would have been plans but us regular people wouldn't never have made it. I doubt what's left over of the government even knows what's going on in the world anymore. How children are raised are the least of our problems."
"You mean a place like Terminus?" Tyreese replied.
I sat back and shrugged. "Doesn't have to be Terminus. It'll be a start but the fact that my brother suggested it to me but hadn't been there yet makes me question the existence of this place. It's somewhere to start I suppose."
Tyreese put his spoon down and sighed. "When we did a run for medicine, before he Governor attacked the prison, Daryl found a radio station."
Carol and I gave him questioning looks.
"There was a woman on it, she said that those who arrive, survive," Tyreese told us. "It's gotta mean something. All radio stations are dead. And Daryl picks up this one station. Those who arrive, survive. That means something PJ."
"I'm a glass is half empty kind of girl," I shrugged. "But if it makes you feel better, I can believe for a while. Whilst I do so, I'm sure my belief will bring a fairy to life. Or is that the sound of a child's laughter?"
Tyreese smiled a bit. "You're so cynical, PJ."
I grinned. "Thanks Tyreese. Makes a girl feel special."
"You want first guard tonight?" he asked, changing the subject.
I nodded. "Yeah. I've slept enough thanks. Relieve me at midnight?"
He nodded. "Carol can do till sunrise than it's Sophia and Ollie."
"We need to hunt for food if we're going to be here for a couple days," I suggested, trying to put some kind of plan in place. "A deer would be nice."
"Would you be okay doing that on your own?" Carol inquired. "Tyreese and I can scout a head, see how far we can go. Clear a path if we can."
I nodded. "Yup. Think Sophia will be okay here with Lizzie and Myka?"
Carol nodded. "I trust her. She's a good kid."
"Had a good mum," I replied.
"Suck up," Tyreese muttered.
The three of us started laughing. Judging by the look on Sophia's face she looked less than happy with being forced to sit with the kids. "So," I smiled, looking to change the subject, "we're gonna play cards after dinner. See what we can bet."
"You're on," Carol grinned.
Tyreese nodded. "Definitely."
I grinned, just a regular dinner.
