A/N: Alright, so I hope everyone liked the last chapter. Pretty dramatic entrance for Alex, yeah? For the entrance into Decker's training, I used the [supposed] leaked beginning for [Prototype 3]. So we finally get a little Prototype for the main subject! Yeah! Anyway, let's get moving!
Chapter 7
For some reason, Decker put of the same air of power, except it felt as if he were trying to suppress it. His height seemed to have grown to about 5'11, just a hair taller than Finn, but still an inch shorter than Alex and Ice Queen, and his hair now came down a small bit over his eyebrows. At first, Decker had this really confused look on his face, but then he smiled real big at all of them, the three women in particular, as if he hadn't seen them in a while, "Hey, guys! What'd I miss?"
While Finn and Jake had puzzled faces, Fionna, Cake, and Ice Queen were slack-jaw. "Well... not really anything, Inficere. We just got through the portal," Fionna informed him.
"His name is Decker now," Ice Queen said to the blonde.
"Wait, what?" she asked.
"He changed it when we were in Wizard City. I guess he didn-"
It was at this particular moment, that Finn decided to make himself known to the rest of the people, pointing to Decker and Alex, "Okay, wait just a moment! Who are you guys adn why the bliz are y'all in my house?"
Decker now had his attention on the third human in the room. Finn wasn't all that different from himself in the show, but there were certain things that were most definitely noticeable. His pants were as Decker thought they would be, navy blue cargo shorts and his shirt was the plain, white wife-beater he'd seen Finn wear with his pajamas when he was captured by gnomes. He could only assume Finn hadn't fully gotten ready for the day yet. His shoes were low cut black Converse with no-show socks.
But, what he saw next almost made him facepalm. Unfortunately, his bear hat was exactly as it was in the show. It completely covered the sides of his head and his neck, only showing his face. Even his more muscular, more realistic form couldn't shake the hat from Decker's thoughts. Though, he approved of the cool blade of grass that was curled up the other young man's right forearm.
It seemed a little funny because Decker had seen Finn writing with his left hand, so it seemed to him that swords worked with Finn like it had with him and a fork; write with his left hand, eat with the right. Jake, however, was basically a Saint Bernard-sized, golden bulldog. Contrary to the show, his jowls were black, but his front paws looked to be more dexterous, like fingers, so he didn't doubt that Jake could stand on his hind legs for a long period of time and use his front paws like hands. Even if he couldn't normally use his 'fingers', he could stretch them into true fingers. But, he saved the rest of his observations for later, as he needed to tend to the other human's question, "Okay, I'm Decker and he," he gestured to the man, still silent behind him, "Is Alex Mercer. He's my teacher."
Cake interjected, "So wait, you went all the way to your dimension just to get some guy in your school and came back?"
"Whoa, you're from another another dimension?!" Jake exclaimed.
Finn's face was puzzled, "Wait, how does that work?"
"Tangent!" Decker shouted over them, causing silence.
He sighed, "In order? No, he isn't that kind of teacher, yes, and I'll tell you in my explanation of why we're here."
Decker leaned on the counter with another sigh of exasperation, "Okay, so it all started a couple months ago-"
Fionna interrupted him, "But, you just got here yesterday."
"No, I was gone for about two months, but nevermind that now!" Decker was beginning to get annoyed by the interruptions, "Anyway, when I was running toward the portal, a couple Infected tackled me into the portal and threw my concentration from home to the universe where Alex is from... New York Zero."
New York Zero Red Zone... 2 months earlier...
Alex Mercer had just witnessed something that had to be among the more disturbing things in his life. Merely a single rooftop away, he saw himself being consumed by someone by the name of James Heller. Inwardly, he thanked the sergeant for saving him the trouble of hunting down his evil doppelganger. But, on the outside, he settled for an unseen nod in the man's direction. Alex almost went to get Dana, but stopped himself, 'It's best if she stays with Heller,' he thought, 'I suppose it's safer... But, I'll be around.'
Then, he sped toward Dana's place, having seen Heller go through there a couple times. Soon, he was atop a tall building and jumped as high as he could of of it, then began to glide, manipulating the wind currents with the BLACKLIGHT in his hands and legs until he saw Dana's safehouse. He griped the side of the building, the tendrils of the virus in a constant dance along his hands and feet, and looked inside the window to make sure no one was there. The emptiness satisfied his paranoia of being caught, so he opened up the window and jumped in. He found a loose piece of paper and grabbed up a pen; he proceeded to write on the paper,
"Dana,
Call me if you're ever in trouble. (212) 834-4956.
A."
He didn't necessarily want to be so cryptic with the short note, but he also didn't want this Heller character after him. Not that he couldn't take him on with this new duplication mutation he has, but he just wanted to air on the side of caution, just in case. In fact, the single initial reminded him of a television show. Not one that he personally ever watched, but so many of the women (and even some of the men) he'd consumed had. Which reminded him of why he was still sane with all of those people's memories running around in his head.
When the Mercer-ganger split from him, he split the consumed in half. Unfortunately for him, the corrupt Mercer got the thousands of consciousnesses and personalities that drove him insane, while the real Mercer got the memories and info. Plus, when they split, Alex noticed that the virus had mutated to a point where whenever he consumed new people, the virus kept the memories and banished the personalities and consciousnesses of the people, thus protecting his sanity. He found it quite useful in a lot of ways. One, he didn't have the constant harassment for every single thing he did from the horrible voices and two, it left a lot of room up in his head for a bit of emotion.
Or at least, more than perpetual anger, but he's used to smirking and sometimes, even smiling. And even though he should work on the other emotions, like humor and work on empathy as well, for now, he was satisfied with happiness being in his clutches again. But, before he could leave, a loud howling came about. It wasn't a normal howling as much as it was a howling of the wind. A gaping hole opened up in the wall to spit out Decker and a few Infected, the hole in the wall closed up quickly.
The bites and blows coming from the mutants were constant and caused the teen to see in black and white once more, except the strange shades of red that came from the beasts and his own virus-enlarged veins. He realized that BLACKLIGHT was telling him he was in trouble, so he did whatever it took. He thrashed a second or two before something got them off his person.
What he saw next didn't console him at all.
Usually when one sees their favorite character from a video game, they're inclined to be naive enough to try and befriend them, even if said person is the villain. Decker, however, was not naive and, at the sight of Alex, scrambled backwards on his behind. Never in his life, besides the situation with his sister, Larkspur, had the young man been so terrified. Though, when Alex noticed the veins on Decker's arms, he used his Infected Vision and confirmed his suspicions. "Usually when Evolved find me, they try to kill me," he said.
"Are you kidding?! Why would they do that? First off, you're Alex-freakin'-Mercer, for God's sake! Secondly, I thought you made those guys, why would they try to kill you?" Decker's voice was more frantic and afraid than his pride wanted it to be.
Alex simply walked forward, grabbed the younger person by the arm, and lifted him to his feet. "I'll explain. But, not here," he said, "We're in my sister's safehouse."
Decker cocked his head to the side in confusion, "Dana?"
Touchy subject, as the young man had come to realize, as he saw Alex's eyes narrow for a moment before returning to normal, "You're also going to be giving an explanation as to how you got here and how you know Dana."
He nodded and followed Mercer out the window and down onto the streets, this one less crowded with Infected. They were both able to walk calmly down the street and talk, minus the stray mutant that would cross their paths that Alex would merely punch away. Alex started, "I want the truth. If you lie, I rip you apart here and now, got it?"
The sound of Decker gulping loudly made him smirk, "W-Well... uhh... Where to begin," the teen tapped his chin for a minute before snapping, taking a deep breath, and releasing it all in one breath, "Okay, so I go to sleep one night and all of a sudden, I wake up in one of my favorite TV shows, Adventure Time, except it was the gender-bent version. Now, at first I thought it was all cool, but then, a Prince injected me with BLACKLIGHT because he wanted to find a vaccine and it gave me these powers, probably because the DNA came from you or Heller, I dunno. But, it doesn't matter- Oh. Right. Dana. So, in my universe, you, Heller, Dana, and all of this is just a video game, so I know most everything about you guys, well, almost. Am I talking too fast?"
A simple shake of Alex's head signaled him to stop, "Okay, that's crazy."
Decker couldn't tell whether his heart had dropped or jumped into his throat, but greedily sucked in air anyway. "But... Your Viral Activity indicates you aren't lying," he sighed, "So, I guess believing you isn't out of the question. As long as you don't try to kill me, I doubt we'll see each other again."
As he began to walk away, Decker gathered his nerve, willing himself to say something. But, the more he tried, the more afraid of Alex's reaction he got and the farther away the man got. "Wait!" he managed to call out.
Alex turned to face him and saw Decker jogging toward him, which it didn't take too long for him to catch up.
End Story...
"So, I asked him if he'd help me master my virus stuff and, even if it took a lot of convincing, he finally gave in," Decker was now sitting on the coffee table while Finn, Jake, and Fionna were on the couch and Cake and Ice Queen stood on either side of the couch.
Alex, though still silent, leaned against the fridge with his arms crossed. The story had taken about ten minutes to tell, but Finn hadn't forgotten any of his questions, "So what about these guys? I mean, does that mean Ice King's whacked-out stories are real after all?"
"You tell us," Fionna replied, "We thought you and Jake were just as crazy an idea as you thought we were!"
Ice Queen shot Fionna a smirk, "See? Told you they were real!" she pointed to her eyes, whispering dramatically, "Witch Eyes~..."
Decker bowed his head and pinched the bridge of his nose with a sigh. But, his lips betrayed him by smiling a bit, his sigh turning into a chuckle. "All the stories?" Finn asked suspiciously.
Fionna said, "It depends, did you ever hear a story about us riding a giant penguin?"
"Uhh... Yeah, actually..."
That earned a chuckle from everyone in the room, except for Alex, but his perpetual scowl broke to form a smirk. Inwardly, Finn was worried just a bit if they could trust the other two guys. He wouldn't shun Decker or Alex, but he would at least take cautionary measures around them. His thoughts were broken by the only other blonde in the room, "Then, no. Those were just their crazy."
The both of them laughed, then Finn got up, "Well, I'ma go put a shirt on while Jake cooks breakfast, I'm starving!"
As the hero got to the second floor from the ladder, Decker got up too and went after him, but instead of going up the ladder, he simply leapt up through the hole in the ceiling, leaving behind only a streak of golden crimson. "Finn!"
The human in question turned around, "'Sup, Decker?"
Decker's features darkened, "Listen, there's a big part of the story we left out. The Lich is back with a vengeance. Plus, that virus that me and Alex have doesn't always work the way it did with us. And he's got an entire army of those infected, super-strength zombies. We slowed him down by coming here, but he'll get here eventually... and when he does, we need to be ready."
Finn stopped putting on his shirt midway when he heard the part about the army of the super-undead, "Whoa... I knew the Lich had something to do with this, but I didn't know that he was doing something this big."
"Yeah," the brunet continued, "But, now! As you probably don't know, where I come from, you guys are all just a show. Shows are like movies, only shorter. So, that means I know just about everything there is to know about this place. I've seen into parts of people's lives you haven't."
Unbeknownst to Finn, Decker was practically begging him to mention Flame Princess mostly because, in Decker's opinion, he had time before the Lich showed up, so why not try to fix as many things as he could. 'Work my way from Finn and FP up to Simon,' he mused. "So..." Finn began putting on his the rest of the way, "Would you mind helping me out with something-"
The other teen quickly said before he could stop himself, "Of course I'll help you with FP!"
Just as quickly as the sentence came out, he clamped both hands over his mouth, eyes wide in mortification. "I'm so sorry," he said, "It's just that... You guys are my favorite show in th-the- forevers. I guess it's catching up to me just where I am and who all I'm talking to."
Decker chuckle and joked, "My 'inner fan' is getting stronger."
The both of them laughed. "Come on," Finn nodded towards the ladder, "Jake's probably almost done with breakfast."
"Hold on," Decker stopped him, "Look, that hat is the most awesome hat to greet my sight on TV besides a fez, but I can't take you seriously. So, I'd be glad to help make your clothes more awesome."
"I-I dunno, man," he gripped the sides of the hat, "I mean, this is my only hat and-"
"It'll help with Flame Princess," the teen retorted.
"Do it."
It came to his attention before doing what he was about to do that the Grass Sword more than likely acted as an armored gauntlet, so when he placed his finger on Finn, the thin, wire-like BLACKLIGHT tendrils that leaked from his fingertips danced along Finn's arm and formed a single gauntlet on the hero's left forearm that had thick, black cloth with layered plates of steel-looking metal. Over all, it was simple, but the changes didn't stop there. The tendrils darted up the arm of the hero until they reached his bear hat. The coloration distorted from white to Decker's black, red, and gold and morphed the hat into a hood of sorts that connected to the blue shirt Finn was wearing, which made some of Finn's blond hair fall in his face and much more visible. Even there, it didn't stop, as it danced danced down to his right wrist, just below where the cursed sword coil ended and formed a black wristband.
"There," Decker took his fingers from Finn's arm, the remainder of the tendrils following his fingers, "Much better!"
The hero just stood, his mouth hanging open a little, "Whoa... That was algebraic!"
"Yeah. It's cool most of the time, but sometimes the tendrils are a real pain when I get tangled in them."
A single chuckle escaped Finn, "I kinda like this look."
"I thought so. Now come on, I smell bacon!" Decker said, his smile growing as he jumped through the hole to the kitchen, Finn soon following after him.
Okay, so there will be songs somewhere and I would like some suggestions. If not, I'll just pick one. Just not any rap or screamo. I stay mostly around Jason Mraz, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Train, etc. Until the next chapter, then!
