A/N: I am SO terrible sorry for everyone who is reading my story! I kind of fell off of it and now that I am in college I never really had the time. Or motivation really. But recently my friend and I got into one of our conversations where we go to so many topics and torture came up (yes, that is me and my friend for you), and she told me that I should really continue to write this story. So, here we are. I reread the chapters so I remember all what was going on. And I might make Katsu cool… what do you guys think? Anyway, for those of you who will still read my story, ENJOY.
P.S. I realized the symbols I put in for my time skip didn't show up on this site for some reason and it got a little confusing at places. So now I will use xxx to show a skip in time. Sorry about that! Wish I had realized it sooner!
Chapter 14
Ayumu woke up to a loud buzzing that blared throughout the house. Panicked, Ayumu quickly sat up in bed, instantly regretting it as a slight pain coursed through his body. It took a few rattled seconds before Ayumu realized the smoke alarm in the kitchen was the culprit.
Ayumu stiffly climbed out of bed and made his way towards the kitchen to see what was going on, although Ayumu had a pretty good idea exactly what had happened.
Sure enough, Hizumi was balancing on a chair so he could reach the alarm and was attempting to wave the smoke emitting from the toaster away with a paper plate. The counters were scattered with more used bowls and utensils than someone should have to use in baking anything.
"For God's sake, just take out the battery," Ayumu yelled, trying to get his voice to rise above the annoying alarm.
Hizumi dropped the plate and fumbled as he tried to quickly remove the battery. Ayumu let out a sigh of relief when the awful buzzing finally ceased.
Hizumi smiled at Ayumu sheepishly. "Sorry to wake you."
Ayumu tried to hide the fact that he was actually quite amused at the whole situation. It was funny to see Hizumi clumsily try to stop the alarm.
"New rule. No cooking while I'm asleep. It's obviously a fire hazard," Ayumu smirked.
Hizumi pouted. "I was just trying to make you breakfast in bed. I must have had the toaster set too high, and then I kind of forgot about it."
Ayumu pulled out the completely black pieces of bread. "Yeah, I would say so."
"Ayumu!" a voice called out through the house. Hiyono quickly rounded the corner into the kitchen. She stopped and looked at the messy kitchen, used to seeing it spotless. "What happened in here?"
Hizumi frowned and started to clean up, not wanting to talk in case Hiyono wanted to start a fight.
"Hizumi tried to cook," Ayumu yawned.
Hiyono frowned and crossed her arms. "What have you been up to anyway? Every time I come over to see you, you're never here. Did something happen?"
Ayumu shook his head and walked to the dining room to take a seat. "Um, no, it's been pretty boring over here."
"Shouldn't you be getting rest? You are injured after all!" Hiyono defended.
"It's not like I have to lay around all day," Ayumu defended. "I'll be fine."
"Okay, so then what happens now?" Hiyono asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I mean that something else has to happen, right?" Hiyono asked. "Just because whatever happened to you is over now, doesn't mean life goes on as normal. We still have Hizumi here, and well, you know what Kiyotaka said about you two."
"Will you stop bringing up the whole thing where one of us has to kill each other?" Ayumu sighed.
Hiyono frowned. "That's hard to do when he is living in your house with you. I worry about you, Ayumu."
Ayumu stood up and patted the top of Hiyono's head as he walked passed her and back towards the kitchen. "Don't worry about it so much, okay? I'll be fine."
"Wait," Hiyono said, grabbing the back of Ayumu's shirt to stop him. "Just what are you doing anyway? This goes beyond not caring about fate. There is no reason for you to let Hizumi live here, even if it wasn't for the situation you are in."
Ayumu shrugged. "I guess it's nice to have some noise in the house."
"I could stay!" Hiyono defended.
Ayumu shook his head. "Don't take this the wrong way, but you make a little too much noise."
Hiyono frowned and crossed her arms, but she knew that she could get a little loud sometimes. And that she talked quite a lot. But that didn't mean she liked the idea of Hizumi living there.
"I don't think this is what Kiyotaka would want, Ayumu," Hiyono said. "I mean, if you really don't plan on killing him, you shouldn't give Hizumi the chance to kill you."
Ayumu smiled, which caught Hiyono by surprise. It wasn't often she got to see Ayumu smile. "I respect my brother and I know he thinks that I need to kill Hizumi, but why not let things play out? As for Hizumi killing me, I really don't think that will be a problem. So don't worry."
Hiyono watched in slight confusion as Ayumu made his way back into the kitchen to help Hizumi clean up the mess he had made.
The moment he saw Ayumu, Hizumi's eyes lit up and he smiled.
Hiyono frowned. She always believed that Hizumi just put up that smiling mask when they first had met. She still believed that on that day outside of the hospital Hizumi's smile had been faked, just to get into Ayumu's life.
But somehow, Hiyono thought she saw something different in Hizumi's smile. Something genuine.
Hiyono shook her head and walked out of the door.
No, that couldn't be it.
