Alek's POV

"You're going to have to tell Chloe eventually." Jasmine told me later that night. Mimi said that she could watch Chloe until Jasmine could take over for Uniter duty so I walked on home after saying goodnight to Chloe.

"I know. I just don't know how I'm going to tell her that my ex-girlfriend of two years is her new protector and is living in our penthouse. Mimi doesn't even know that Chloe and I are dating. When I requested more bodyguards for Chloe, I didn't expect Mimi to be the one that they send." I said.

"Chloe's really cool. I'm sure that she'll understand." Jasmine reasoned.

"Yeah, you're right." Everything will be okay. Right?

"Besides, you really need to tell her before Mimi does." I forgot about that issue.

Chloe's POV

Maybe today won't turn out so horribly. I thought to myself as I woke up the next morning. Alek and I are going out, or hanging out, or whatever it is. I didn't wake up screaming because of a nightmare. I actually woke up a little early today.

And today is Friday, the day I have another date with Alek.

Want to grab some coffee today? I texted Amy. Not a minute later, my phone beeped.

Sounds great. Pick you up in 5?

Sure. Any chance we could bring some coffee to Alek? After last night's late training exercise, I figured Alek could use something to wake him up as well.

Yeah. See ya soon.

"Chloe," I heard a voice behind me and spun around. "Alek's right. You do need to start paying more attention to your surroundings." It was Jasmine.

"Did you stay on the roof last night?" She nodded. "Jasmine, you could've come inside. It's really not necessary to stay on the roof the entire night."

"It's easier to keep a look out at the surroundings when I'm on the roof. It's no biggie." I looked at her skeptically, but knew that I wasn't going to convince her to stop staying on my roof.

"Amy and I are going to get some coffee and bring something to Alek. I'm assuming your going to tag along?"

"You know you could just meet him at school. It would probably be easier." Jasmine suddenly looked nervous, but I figured I was just imagining it.

"The coffee will probably be cold by then. Besides, we have plenty of time."

Twenty minutes later, Amy and I were knocking on Alek's door with coffee in our hands.

"Chloe, Amy," Alek said as he opened the door and saw us. "I wasn't expecting you guys. What are you doing here?" He said while staring at Jasmine behind us.

"We just thought that after training last night everyone would be a little tired so I brought you some coffee. Can we come in?"

"Ummm, yeah. Sure."

"Alek, who's at the door?" I heard a familiar female voice call out from inside the apartment.

"Is that Mimi?" Amy asked Alek as we were entering the apartment. There wasn't a need for an answer because Mimi had walked out of the shower, her hair still wet, wearing only a towel. My mind was trying to piece together why she was here.

"Oh, Hey guys," Mimi said quickly while walking into the guest bedroom. "I'm just going to get dressed now."

"Why is Mimi here so early?" Amy asked to Alek, who was staring at me.

"She lives here. Valentina didn't think that it was necessary for her to get her own place when we had an extra room so we figured she would just stay here when she was helping protect Chloe. It's easier to coordinate the protecting schedules and stuff. Thanks for the coffee. It's really going to help after being up so late last night." After his speech he grabbed his coffee and went to sit on the couch.

"Didn't you say that David was going to be added to her protection detail as well?" Amy continued her inquisition.

"He has been added." Jasmine piped into the conversation behind us. "He's been watching Chloe for a few days now. We just don't think he's going to teach her often because while he is an amazing fighter, instructing somebody else is not a strong point of his."

I walked over and sat next to him on the couch just to have him to get up and walk over to the table with Jasmine. Hurt flashed through me. Why would he purposely move away from me? Stop it Chloe, I told myself. I'm just overreacting. He probably didn't even notice that he did it. Right?

"Do you guys want to go to school now?" Alek asked hastily, "We don't want to be late or anything."

"We still have plenty of time," Amy answered behind me. "Besides, shouldn't we wait for Mimi?"

"Chloe, why don't you go with Alek this morning? I need to finish getting ready for school anyways. I'll take Amy and Mimi to school once she's ready." Jasmine offered.

"Sounds great. Ready to go Chloe?" I eyed him suspiciously. He was really eager to get out of the apartment.

"Sure, I'm ready."

When we got to school, Alek stopped the car, but didn't move to get out. "Chloe, I need to tell you something. It's not that big of a deal, but if I didn't tell you, it would make it seem like a bigger deal than it actually is and than I don't know if you would mind more because I hadn't told you and you figured out and-"

"You're rambling." I interrupted him.

"Right, sorry." He apologized. "Mimi and I sort of dated for a few years a while back." He looked at me nervously like I was going to explode or something.

"Oh," How did I react to this? How do I feel? I trust Alek; he's not going to cheat on me with her or anything. There's not a large population of Mi, so the dating field is a little limited, so it kind of makes sense that they would date. Besides, Mimi seems really cool. "How long did you guys date?" I asked calmly.

"Two years," He looked shocked that I wasn't screaming at him. It was weird though. It makes sense that he's dated before, I would actually be surprised if he hadn't, but two years is a long time to date when you're a teenager.

How close were they before they broke up? Why did they break up? Did they just grow apart and realize that they don't have any feeling for each other or was it something more? Did she cheat on him? I threw that thought out. Mimi didn't seem like the kind to cheat on someone, same with Alek. While he might be really cocky sometimes, he's the most loyal person I've ever met.

But now, they're living together in that apartment. But should that really matter?

"Chloe?" Alek interrupted my thoughts. "You haven't really said anything for a while." There was no reason to distrust him. There was no reason why it should change wherever this relationship was heading, so why did it suddenly feel a little more awkward?

"Thanks for telling me," Was all I could come up with.

"You're not mad?"

"No, of course not." I said honestly. I wasn't mad at him for having a relationship before me. He smiled. Not his infuriating Alek smirk, but a full on smile that made me smile as well.

"Now, about tonight, are we still on for our date?" He asked cheerfully. "I was thinking that after the game, we could go grab a bite to eat or maybe go see a movie?"

"Sounds great,"

"Come on, let's walk to class." When we got out of the car, he grabbed my hand. I had expected him to let go as soon as we walked into the school, but instead he just smiled.

Being Mai is great. The super powers were super cool and everything, but I would've given anything to have normal hearing again just for the moment. Everybody had something to say about us being together. And sadly, as Mai, we could hear all of it.

Can you believe Alek's dating her?

I never noticed this, but she's actually pretty hot.

Why would he pick her to be his girlfriend when he could have anybody at this school?

Please, to be with a guy like Alek, she has to be putting out. A football player was saying to his friends. A flash of hurt crossed me. Was I honestly being called a slut just because I started dating Alek? I have never even dated anybody else or kissed anybody else other than him. Apparently, Alek had heard that last comment because he let go of my hand and started walking towards them.

"Alek, don't" I said so quietly, only Mai could hear. "It's not worth it. Besides, how would you explain that you heard them from twenty feet away in a crowed, loud hallway?"

"I won't leave him much time to ask questions."

"Alek, it's fine. Come on, I don't want to be late for class." I said, quickly grabbing his hand again. "Please?" He nodded once; his eyes still a little angry but fading fast.
