Chapter 62
Spectra grinned as he lead Viki up the stairs to the roof of the building a block away from Marucho's home. The girl was practically skipping alongside him her brown eyes shining with delight of being so close to Spectra.
Spectra could not be more pleased with how things had gone, within 2 days he had accomplished what Vanessa and Hal-G had asked of him, and he had gained a useful new servant out of the bargain already. He could hardly contain his excitement at the thought of the other rewards he would reap as a result of being in the past, and the advantages he now possessed.
Chuckling to himself the pyrus masked brawler pushed open the door leading out into the cool night air. He paused to hold the door open to allow Viki to come outside the girl still smiling as brightly as ever.
"So I see you succeeded." Spectra let the door to the building click shut before turning to consider the four people gathered at the top of the building. The dark haired woman with piercing red eyes dressed in a fitting black leather jacket and jeans narrowed her eyes at him before glancing sideways at Gus. "I had begun to wonder if your pet was exaggerating after having to sit through him shower you with gracious words." She said.
"Well you shouldn't have doubted Master Spectra to succeed!" Gus snarled at Vanessa who shot him a menacing glare.
"Dude, I'd avoid pissing off the lady who's in charge, you know if you want to keep your tongue." A blond haired boy with glasses that Spectra didn't recognize spoke up. He was standing off to the side next to Alica who had her hood drawn up over her head concealing her face from view.
"Easy Aidan." Alica said gently placing her hand on Aidan's chest and pushing the boy back from Gus who snarled and clenched his fists glaring daggers at the newcomer.
Vanessa flashed Alica an approving look. "So you do have taste in your allies."
Alica flashed a wicked grin. "I only brought the best." She said. "Hello Viki." She said pulling her hood down and revealing her face to her friend who scowled before turning to look at her friend.
"Yes?" She said sounding irritated. "Oh hi Alica, Aidan." She said with a bored wave before linking elbows with Spectra. "Nice to see you." She said flatly before turning back to look up at Spectra with hearts in her eyes.
One of the downsides of having Viki completely obsessed with him. She had become insanely clingy.
Alica looked a bit put off by this response while Vanessa chuckled.
"She's completely devoted to you," Vanessa said, with a grin and a laugh when Spectra grimaced as Viki moved to give him a peck on the cheek. "She'll be attached to you like a burr for a while but if you start putting some ground rules down it'll lessen, as she'll easily change herself to please you." She said. Then her gaze hardened and she moved forwards at lightning speed to grab Spectra by his collar. Before the masked brawler could cry out or respond she pulled him down to her level and glared into his mechanical eye and where the other one was hidden by his mask. "If I find out that you used the 'devotion potion' to do certain things to her, well." She unsheathed her claws on her free hand and clenched her fists the blades flickering in the light as she moved them. "I'll let you use imagination." She hissed. Spectra frowned and tilted his chin looking at her impassively, which made Vanessa grit her teeth and raise her clawed fist threateningly.
However her threatening ceased when the girl attached to Spectra's side let out a war cry and threw herself at Vanessa. Vanessa's eyes narrowed and quickly sheathing her claws she backhanded Viki making the girl stagger back clutching her quickly reddening cheek.
"Tell your pet that if she tries to attack me again, I won't be sheathing my claws." Vanessa said icily shoving Spectra backwards and releasing him leaving him to stagger back as she moved back towards the edge of the roof and gazed towards Marucho's large home a block away. "So we know the plan right?" She asked not bothering to turn back to the others who were also standing on the roof.
"Of course." Spectra said as he worked to straighten out his jacket where Vanessa had manhandled him. Then reaching down he pulled Viki to her feet frowning as the girl continued to hold her cheek which was bright red and a few tears pricking her eyes. Then he snorted and focused back on Vanessa leaving Viki to nurse her cheek by herself. "I will return to the Marukura residence, along with Gus and Viki, then around midnight Gus will put all the cameras on loop while I awaken Alice and draw her out."
"And then take her and deliver her to Hal-G," Vanessa said. "Good, that'll keep the old man out of my way."
"What's going to happen to Masquerade?" Alica asked.
"We kill him." Aidan said flatly shooting Alica a malicious grin. "I mean what's the point of keeping him around."
Vanessa scowled. "Men, so wasteful." She growled. "Lets not get ahead of ourselves, clearly we all now what's the plan. But there is no guarantee it will go well. For all we know we could have a repeat of what happened when I challenged Masquerade, where not only did a girl I had no warning about being on his side aided him, but one of your kind." Vanessa cast a glance towards Aidan and Alica. "Dropped in to allow for Masquerade to escape. What's to prevent that happening twice?"
Aidan snorted and folded his arms across his chest as he tilted his head. "That Tyler is an idiot, and I'm going to intercept all of Mike's calls from here on out. Jet's phone doesn't work anymore for some reason, and Viki is well, indisposed to them." He said sneering at the girl at Spectra's side. "And Meredith is still not in the know. So there's no hope of her randomly showing up. At least in time to keep Masquerade safe tomorrow."
"As for getting it down tomorrow." Spectra said frowning. "There is one snag."
Everyone turned to look at him Vanessa growling softly. "A snag?" She echoed her tone quiet but no less menacing.
Spectra sighed. "The brawlers," He grimaced. "they insist that I don't fight their battles for them, they refuse to let me fight Masquerade on my own."
Vanessa snarled narrowing her eyes and clenching her fists. "Well that's your problem! Figure something out!" With that said she turned on her heel and pulled back the sleeve on her jacket revealing a device on her wrist that looked like a bakupod. "I must return to my men, heaven knows what they've gone and done in my absence! It better be done tomorrow or you will have my wrath to deal with." She said shooting Spectra one last glare over her shoulder before she pushed a button on the device on her wrist. A circle of light appeared at her feet and she faded out of sight.
Spectra frowned mechanical eye narrowing slightly. 'That woman.' He growled in his mind clenching his teeth.
"Well seeing as the boss lady is gone." Alica said lifting her hands up behind her and tossing her hood back on. "Aidan and I have interference to run. We'll be heading out." She said Aidan pulling out a DT and disappearing from sight without as much as a glance in anyone's directions. Alica pulled out her own DT but then paused turning slightly to Spectra, "I wouldn't worry too much about convincing the brawlers to let you go. Come tomorrow, a new ally of ours will have Masquerade put in a position that the brawlers cannot keep you from taking him down."
Spectra snorted. "Don't tell me about it," He said folding his arms across his chest. "Just make it happen." He said.
Alica scoffed. "Don't get ahead of yourself birdbrain, you won't get anything until you handle Masky, not before." She said then with a nod to Gus and Viki she raised her DT and disappeared in a flash of light leaving a rain of sparkles in her wake.
Spectra sighed before he grinned maliciously his mechanical eye glinting. "All right then," He looked to Viki who looked like she was still waiting for some form of comfort and then to Gus who nodded in affirmation. "Let's get to work."

After everyone being apart so long, and with no news about Shun's condition. The brawlers had all decided that they would all spend the night at Marucho's.
Mike would share a room with Dan, the two boys getting along quite well with Mike helping take a little of worry off Dan's mind by telling him crazy stories about the crazy things he and the others had done back home. Although a lot of it was exaggerated, he was pretty sure if Tyler had used any sort of explosives to take out a wall to pin a goon, they would've at least been fined, if not thrown in juvie for such a deed. But the stories did their job. They allowed Mike to get past the icy shell Dan had erected around himself due to Shun being in the state he was in. And although Shun's wellbeing was always in the back of his mind, Dan allowed himself to enjoy Mike's clearly exaggerated stories and tell some of his own. The two boys laughing until they became so tired they had to go to sleep.
The girls would've all been doing the same except, when Julie and Alice went to invite Jet, who was in the room she would be sharing with Viki, she chose to decline their invitation saying her injury was acting up and she really just wanted to rest.
Really it was just Jet throwing a pity party about Viki having the perfect romance while Jet was stuck with a 'romance' with a guy that, at times was a girl, and was also the bad guy. So Jet pretty much spent bedtime crying herself to sleep with no comfort as Viki didn't return from her date before sleep claimed Jet.
Thus it was just Julie, Runo and Alice in the room across from Jet and Viki's. Mainly they gossiped about boys, and who they thought was cute. However they sort of ran into a wall when it came to Spectra and both Runo and Alice looked at Julie like she was crazy when she asked them what they thought of Masquerade.
"What? Are you crazy?!" Runo said eyes wide. "He's the main baddie, the worst of the worst!" She said narrowing her eyes. "Don't tell me that since he helped you and Jet escape you feel that he's, not so bad?"
"Well." Julie frowned putting her hands on her hips as she tilted her head to the side. "I guess yeah he's not so bad, I mean okay yeah he is obviously a villain but he has his nice moments." She said shifting her shoulders up in a shrug. "Plus I was more asking in what your guys opinions were on his looks-"
"HEY!" There was banging on their door making the girls jump and they turned shakily to look at the door as the pounding continued before stopping. "Some of us are trying to sleep!" It was then they recognized Gus's voice and heaved a sigh of relief.
"Okay we're going to bed!" Runo yelled back. "Go away!"
"I will once you guys go to bed!" Gus retorted. "I'd like to get some sleep tonight."
"The nerve of that guy." Julie growled glaring daggers at the door wishing Gus could see the nasty look she was giving him through the door.
Alice however frowned and glanced at the door and then at her friends. "You know we should just go to sleep, its not like we were talking about something that important." She said rising from where she was sitting on her cot and she slowly pulled back the covers and slid in under them. "Besides we must be disturbing the others as well."
Runo and Julie exchanged irritated looks and looked like they wanted to argue before they relented and slid under their own covers as well.
"We're going to bed! Scram you creep!" Runo shouted at Gus before she flicked off the light in the room and shifted to get comfortable.
"All right." Gus said much quieter and the girls could all hear his footsteps fading away as he walked down the hall to the room that he and Spectra shared.
Despite their decision to go to sleep that early having been decided grudgingly, fall asleep they did.
Alice had been sleeping particularly peacefully until, she heard the sound of knocking.
Frowning, still mostly asleep she rolled onto her side and covered her ears and squeezed her eyes shut trying to coerce her brain to go to sleep once more. However the knocking continued making Alice open her eyes and heave a sigh.
Sitting up she rubbed her eyes sleepily and glanced over at Runo and Julie. She frowned when she saw that they were both sound asleep. She debated waking them up but decided against it.
When the knocking sounded again her head snapped in the direction of the bedroom door where the sound was emanating from. She could even see the door shuddering with each of the knocks upon it.
Heaving a sigh, Alice pushed the covers away and slipped out of bed and moved towards the bedroom door.
When she reached it, the knocking sounded once more, Alice hesitating until it died down. Then she reached down and grabbed the handle slowly turning it.
"Hello?" She cautiously whispered pulling the door open a crack and peering out into the dark hallway. Her eyebrows furrowed when she found the hallway to be empty, void of anyone.
"Hello?" She repeated opening the door further and cautiously maneuvering herself out of her room and peering out. She slipped out of her room fully and glanced around the hall. "Is there someone else awake?" She asked, her heart beginning to pound as the halls only held darkness, not a soul in sight.
Then she heard something from down the hall and she whipped herself around to face that way. "Hello?" She spoke a little louder, though still quiet enough not to wake anyone else. She took a tentative step towards the noise. "Is there someone there?" She asked.
A swish of fabric made her turn and she found herself faced with a dark figure looming over her. Her eyes widened as they tracked upwards the only thing she could make out was a glowing blue eye.
She opened her mouth to scream in alarm but Spectra was faster he clamped a hand around her mouth and spun her around. Alice struggled violently her cries barely muffled by the gloved hand clamped over her mouth.
Spectra sighed as he chopped her in the neck Alice's brown eyes bugging out in alarm, before she slumped over her eyelids slipping closed as she fell unconscious.
Spectra sighed as let her slump against him, then reaching around her he pressed a few buttons on his gauntlet. Then there was a flash of light and a portal came into being in front of him.
Spectra considered the portal for a moment before he picked up Alice bridal style and carried her into the portal. He chuckled smirking his eye glinting. "I've got you now, Masquerade."
A/N:
So initially this chapter was a whole lot longer, then I realized that if I shoved all of what happened into one chapter it was too much and there were timeskips within the chapter to the point it didn't work… Like at all.
So there is now one more chapter between us and the Spectra vs Masquerade brawl of awesomeness!

Also considering the next chapter after this one will be posted in the next hour or so, depends on how long it takes to write the brawlers relenting and giving into Spectra's demands, you can enjoy this and then that new chapter will be up and the greatest brawl that was never shown but will finally be read will be upon us!
