Chapter 19
"So, what's our plan for tonight?" Mimi asked as she sat down at our table. "I was thinking, since Chloe's proficient with staffs, we should move on to something different. Maybe throwing stars? Have you guys done anything with that yet?" I glanced over to Alek. Does Mimi know that we're dating? Are we dating? Yes, we're going on our second date tonight, but that doesn't mean we're dating officially.
"Actually, I was going to take Chloe out later tonight after my game. Could we push back the practice time?" Alek asked.
"Sure, we'll start the training at midnight rather than at ten tonight. Throwing stars still okay though?"
"Sure, I know that's a favorite of yours. Chloe and I will meet you at midnight at the park where we usually practice."
Alek's POV
"Thanks for coming to my game tonight, Chloe." I said as we arrived at the school. After this morning, I was afraid that she wasn't going to come tonight, but right at seven, she walked through the gym doors. I had offered to drive her, but she said that she had to work a little later than usual to make up for being a little late and didn't want me to be late for practice before the game.
"Of course, I wouldn't miss it."
Telling Mimi that we were dating turned out to be a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. I had told her early this morning before Chloe and the others had shown up.
"Hey Mimi, can we talk for a sec?" I asked her as she walked into the kitchen.
"Yeah, of course. You know you can tell me anything."
"I'm just going to be blunt here." Since I had no clue how to do it any better. "Chloe and I are dating. Or, at least, we're starting to date and since we used to go out, I thought it would be better if I told you rather than you hearing it somewhere at school from someone else." I said the last part quickly.
"Alek," She laughed. "I'm happy that you found someone for you and Chloe seems like a really nice girl. And, I appreciate that you told me before I had to find out somewhere else. I hope you guys are happy." She said sincerely, making me wonder why I was even freaking out at all in the first place. I've known Mimi a long time, and she's really cool. She wouldn't have acted like a jealous ex. "But, you have to be careful." She warned.
"Careful?" Now I was confused.
"You can't let your feelings for Chloe interfere with what's best for her safety. From what I've heard, she doesn't like being watched, and I want to make sure that you're not going to change her security because she doesn't want anybody following her. Protecting her is still the number one priority." Oh.
"I know that, and I promise you that protecting her is still my priority. If anything, feeling what I'm feeling for her, it just wants me to protect her even more."
"Good," Mimi smiled. "Now, I'm going to go finish getting ready. See ya later."
"I was thinking that afterwards we could maybe go see a movie before training later tonight," I suggested as we walked through the gym.
"That sounds nice, but, maybe we could just go back to your apartment? Movie prices are just so expensive that they aren't really worth it right now."
"You know money isn't an object for me Chloe." My parents had left me quite a bit of money before they passed. Though, I guess I never really told Chloe that.
"But there's not even anything really worth seeing at the movies at the moment. Besides, if we go back to your apartment, we could order a pizza, and talk. It would just be the two of us rather than us and a billion other people in the movie theatre."
"Sure," I said, making her smile. "If that's what you want to do, we'll do that."
A group of three girls came into the gym and sat down on the bleachers, near where Chloe and I were standing. One blond, one red head, and one brunette, whose names I think are Ashley, Emily, and Rebecca. A blond, red head and brunette walked into a bar… I couldn't help but smirking at my own joke. They are all in my English class. I think.
I can't believe Chloe is dating Alek. Who would've guessed? Said the blond, Ashley. They were sitting far enough, and talking low enough that they assumed we wouldn't be able to hear them. If we were human, we wouldn't be able to. We weren't human and they didn't know that though.
I know, right? What does he even see in her? She's not ugly, but he could totally do better. Rebecca, the brunette, said to the others.
Don't worry. They'll break up soon enough. Even if she is having sex with him, they won't last more than a week. He'll dump her ass as soon as he realizes he can have anybody he wants. Maybe he'll even go out with me. Emily smiled, not realizing that I could hear everything that she said. I glanced over at Chloe, hoping that she didn't hear anything. Her watery eyes told me that she did.
Throughout the day, people have been talking about us starting to go out. Some have just been observing the change in an uninterested detached way while others have said some pretty cruel stuff. Of course, they didn't think that we could hear it, so they probably didn't think much about saying it.
"Hey, maybe you should go to your team. I don't want you to miss out on any important strategies they might be discussing." Chloe told me, attempting to smile. It wasn't very convincing though.
Without a second thought, I leaned over and kissed her. I could feel her smile beneath my lips and I moved my hands to around her hips while slowly pushing her up against the wall. She tangled her hands into my hair and pulled me closer to her. I started to hear the rude remarks that the girls were saying, but I focused on Chloe's heart rate instead. Her heart was beating faster than normal, but it was soothing.
I was about to pull away when I heard a very quiet, almost nonexistent moan from Chloe and instead just deepened the kiss. I slowly pushed my tongue against her lips, asking for entrance. There was a moment of fighting for dominance between our tongues before I won. Her heart was beating against my chest and I knew that mine was doing the same exact thing to her.
This kiss was starting to become a little too much PDA but I didn't really care. All I cared about was how amazing it felt to be this close to her, yet somehow still wanting to be closer. That's when I thought it was going to far while at school.
I slowly pulled myself away from her. "As much as I would love to do that all night, I have to go." I said breathlessly, my breath a little uneven after that. Her cheeks grew slightly pink as she smiled.
"Good luck, I hope you guys win." Her breath was just as breathless as mine.
"If we win this one, we go into the tournament." I said even though I couldn't care less about the game at the moment. "Sit close to the benches and I'll try to sneak away to talk to you during halftime."
Chloe's POV
"Next time, get a room," Mimi joked as I went to sit next to her, Amy, and Paul. I didn't realize that the gym started to get crowded when Alek and I were talking. Amy squealed.
"You guys are soooooooo cute together!" I glanced over at Mimi again. Now that I knew that they used to date, I don't know if Mimi really wanted to talk about me and Alek dating, and I didn't want to rub it into her face that we were.
"Mimi, are you okay with me dating Alek?" For now, I'm just going to call it dating. It was better than saying the possibility that I might be dating him.
"Honestly, it's cool. He's a great guy and he deserves someone like you. Besides, our relationship ended a while ago. Any feelings we might've had are done. We're just friends now and I'm good with that." It sounded like she was sincere. "So it's okay for Amy to squeal and talk about it. It's not going to hurt my feelings so relax."
They ended up winning the game by twenty points, so they were going to be in the tournament for the championships. I said goodbye to everyone as they left the gym and waited on the lockers for Alek. All throughout the game, I thought about the kiss. While he probably did that to cheer me up from what the girls said, it was still the best kiss. Though, the only people I've kissed have been Xavier and Alek. And look at how the first one went.
"Hey," Alek said, interrupting me from my thoughts. "Ready to go?"
"Yep," I nodded while walking towards him. His hair was wet like he had just taken a shower, and he smelled of a really nice cologne. "The ref totally shouldn't have called that foul on you in the third quarter. It was a fair pick?" The last part was a question because I didn't really know if it was a true statement or not.
"Nice, has Paul been feeding you lines on basketball?" He laughed.
"No," I admitted. "It was Mimi. But I'm slowly learning the rules of basketball. Mimi was explaining all of them when you guys were playing." Alek wrapped his arms around me.
"It means a lot that you come to the games." He said before giving me a peck on the cheek. Although we've only been dating for a few days, it already feels like the most normal thing to be in his arms. "Ready to go back to the apartment?"
"Sounds good." When we were walking back to his car, we came across some of his teammates.
"Yo, Alek. We're celebrating at my house tonight. Want to come? You can bring your girl along if you want." Said a guy in a jersey with the number twenty two.
"I'm good, thanks though."
"Come on, Matt was able to score some beer from his older brother. It's going to be a rockin' party."
"I'll see you guys Monday."
"You could go to the party with them if you want. I won't mind." I said as we were walking away from them. It seemed unfair that Alek and Jasmine didn't get much time just to relax with friends without having to worry about everything all the time.
"There are multiple reasons why I didn't want to go with them tonight, Chloe. First of all, l don't like drinking. Secondly, since Jasmines on a date with Derek, I'm your guard for tonight, and I can't do that as well if I'm at a party." He said while opening up my door for me. After he closed it and got into the drivers seat, he continued his reasoning. "And thirdly, why would I want to spend the night with them when I can have you all to myself tonight?" I smiled at that last part, but was curious about something.
"Why don't you like drinking? I understand that it's stupid to drink sometimes like if you are driving afterwards, but it can be a little fun occasionally." Paul, Amy and I have been able to get some alcohol to try occasionally. And, we did go to the club for my birthday.
"Trying to protect you while drunk or hung-over is a bad idea. Scarface is hard enough to fight off, let's not give him the advantage of us getting drunk."
"Is Mimi going to be at the apartment?" I asked.
"No, I texted her saying that we were going to go there after the game to watch a movie and asked her if she could go somewhere else for an hour or so. She texted back that she was going to grab some dinner with Amy so no biggie."
"What movie do you want to watch?" Alek asked as he walked into the apartment.
"You pick, I'm good with anything you want."
"Do you want to order some pizza?" He asked. I nodded and pulled out my cell phone.
"Hello, you've reached Dominos. This is Eric speaking. What can we get you today?" The voice said after picking up the phone. I gave him our order and our address, and then hung up.
I walked over to the couch and rested in Alek's arms while the movie started to play.
