A/N: So much stuffff…. Well for starters this chapter wanted to fight, it stubbornly refused to be written. Then there was a wedding, college orientation, summer school, lifeguard, life in general, a huge falling out with an old friend, and yeah crap has happened.
And I just couldn't come up with how to open. If I could've just had Spectra and Masky just be fighting already I would be happy. But I can't do that goddamnit because I can't do that much of a jump. *shoots self* Drat.
But it all worked out in the end and its done so now you guys get to enjoy the much anticipated brawl in Dual Dimensions!
I don't own anything and ENJOY!
Chapter 64
Spectra grinned as the light faded around him and he found that his surroundings had changed from his room to the darkened halls of Masquerade's mansion. He briefly checked himself over to make sure he was still in one piece before reaching into his pocket to confirm that he still had Helios. After ensuring he was fine he straightened up and took out the DT from his gauntlet. He held it up and considered it. He could see that the edges were burnt slightly and a tiny spark occasionally erupted from its center. With a snort Spectra tossed it aside as he began to make his way down the hallway.
No point in wasting time with the busted old thing. He'd take the functional one off Masquerade. Spectra's lips curved up into a smirk as he continued to walk down the hall. Wasn't like he'd be needing it where he was going after all.
"Now where or where could little Masky be hiding?" Spectra mused pausing at a point where the hallway split into many. Standing in the center he turned his head looking this way and that with his mask switching between various wavelengths from x-ray to infrared and then some to locate Masquerade. "Come out come out wherever you-"
He paused as he heard the sound of rapid footsteps coming up behind him. Grinning he whipped around ready to strike, only to freeze in confusion. There was no one there, except for a few rapidly fading.
WHAM!
Something collided harshly with the back of Spectra's skull making the pyrus brawler stagger forwards and drop to one knee. His mask flew off with the force of the blow landing on the ground in front of him with a clatter. Spectra growled in pain reaching up to grab where he'd been hit whipping around to glare at the masked blond that stood before him.
Masquerade scowled at him arms crossed across his chest as he stood erect tension evident in the way he held himself. Dual Hydranoid was perched on his shoulder.
"You were right Hydranoid," Masquerade said glaring down at Spectra. "There was a rat scurrying about." He looked Spectra up and down and then at the mask scoffing slightly. "Are you supposed to be some idiot's interpretation of me? How pathetic." Masquerade moved forwards closer to Spectra the pyrus brawler gritting his teeth as he glanced at Masquerade and his fallen mask, blue eyes alight with rage and irritation. "I don't know how you got here, but I'll be sure to-ngh!" He was surprised when Spectra lashed out with a sweep kick to the legs knocking Masquerade off his feet.
With Masquerade down for the moment Spectra got to his feet and grabbed his mask replacing it onto his face.
"You're more irritating than they said," Spectra muttered as the tables turned with Spectra now standing over Masquerade who was starting to rise back onto his feet. "I am Spectra Phantom, the future King of Vestal, and soon the one who will claim your throne."
Masquerade laughed, "Oh is that so?" He inquired tilting his head with a sneer. "Big words for a nobody, if you had even a prayer of taking me you'd be on the listings." Masquerade's mask was running through the rankings and this 'masked phony' was nowhere to be found. "And you're nowhere to be found."
Spectra chuckled. "Then lets brawl," He said with a cackle clenching his fists. "The only way to truly settle this."
Masquerade smirked. "You're pretty eager to lose, bring it on, there's not enough room for two masked brawlers."
"There won't be," Spectra said evilly. "When I win, not only will I take your place at the top, I'll reveal who you really are to the entire world." He let out a laugh. "Then Masquerade will be no more as they learn whose the real you!"
Masquerade glared at him his teeth gritted as he bit back a snarl. "And I wonder why you even bother wearing the mask, besides to be an annoying prick of a copycat."
Spectra grinned and opened his mouth when Masquerade spat out.
"Enough!" He whipped out his field card and held it up. "Lets get on with this already, the sooner we start the sooner I can put you in your place."
Spectra chuckled as he raised his gauntlet activating it. "Ha, prepare for your end Masquerade."
Masquerade scowled.
"Field Open!" Masquerade shouted flipping his card over the face glowing bright purple.
"Gauntlet Power Strike!" Spectra said holding up his gauntlet.
For a moment like when Spectra first brawled Viki the two differing mechanisms clashed for a brief moment before the attribute circle appeared at their feet, the field activator within the gauntlet allowing for the old school field to open.
In a flash Masquerade and Spectra appeared in the white space surrounded by the floating attribute worlds.
Spectra glanced around. "I still need to get used to this strange field." He muttered to himself as he focused back on Masquerade who pulled out a gate card.
"Gate card set!" Masquerade shouted as he threw out his card, it appearing in front of Spectra with a flash of purple.
Spectra chuckled. "Fine, we'll start with you." He grabbed Helios. "Bakugan Brawl!" He shouted hurling his bakugan on the card only for it to bounce on the card before rolling to a stop in the empty space between Masquerade and his gate card. "What?" Spectra said drawing back as Helios popped open looking confused.
Masquerade however burst out laughing. "Yeah, beat me, right! HAHAHA!" He clutched his stomach as he doubled over and continued to laugh. "You do know you have to throw down your gatecard as well before we can battle." He snorted as he straightened up. "Ah, this is hilarious, they sent some moron to fight me, what were they expecting your idiocy would throw me off?" He chuckled as Spectra clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. Masquerade grinned. "Get your bakugan back and try again, oh I'm going to enjoy this so much."
Spectra growled holding out his hand, Helios flying back over to him and landing in his grasp. "Very well then," He said tightly pulling out a gate card and the throwing it out looking a bit resigned. "Gate card set!"
'I didn't even consider that the brawling style would've been different back in these days, urgh,' Spectra looked at Masquerade who was grinning with barely controlled mirth. 'Laugh all you want, this little incident will all be forgotten when my Helios starts ripping into your precious Hydranoid.' The image of Masquerade's face awash with shock and horror as his Dual Hydranoid was taken apart by his mighty Helios brought a smile to his face.
"Since you clearly need to learn the rules to this game, I'll go first." He pulled out a bakugan from his belt and threw it out onto the field. "Darkus Siege Stand!" He shouted.
The bakugan bounced a few times before coming to a stop on Masquerade's gate card. It popped open and in a flash of purple light a knight with purple skin and darker purple armor rose up wielding a staff with a wicked looking blade at the end.
'Darkus Siege at 400 gs.'
"Your move," Masquerade said folding his arms across his chest as he looked at Spectra. "Try not to screw up, I might die of laughter." He said with a sneer.
Spectra scowled. "We'll see who'll be laughing." He said grabbing Helios. "Bakugan Brawl! Obliterate him Pyrus Viper Helios!"
Spectra hurled Helios at Siege the pyrus bakugan landing on the card just a few inches from hitting Siege. The dragonoid popped open and in a flash of red light a massive shape erupted forth. A large clawed hand reached out and snatched Siege by the neck gripping it tightly in its grasp.
Masquerade's eyes widened as the light faded revealing the massive dragonoid that was Helios.
Helios snorted as he brought Siege closer to his face, the knight struggling in his grip trying to stab at him with his spear or pry his hand off its throat. "This is to be my opponent? Where's Hydranoid I want to destroy him!" He roared at Masquerade.
'Pyrus Viper Helios enters battle at 600 gs.'
"600 gs!" Masquerade breathed eyes wide behind his mask. "How, how the hell is that behemoth so strong!" Masquerade's mind raced. 'How could it have been hidden for so long? I should've known about its existence long before it could get that strong!'
"Are you laughing now Masquerade?" Spectra asked with a sneer. "Here, allow me to give you a demonstration of my Helios's power. Ability Activate! General Quasar!" He shouted slotting the ability card in his gauntlet which glowed red.
Helios chuckled. "Time for a barbecue." He said tossing Siege onto the ground the knight landing with a clang. Then Helios reared back flames gathering in his maw, "Goodbye small fry!" He said with a roar as he unleashed a massive ball of flames.
Helios power level increase by 200 gs. Helios now at 800 gs. Siege at 400 gs.
"Crap! Gate card open!" Masquerade shouted. The gate flashing underneath helios and Siege's feet. "Triple battle!"
A barrier erupted between Helios and Siege saving Siege from his doom, the knight moving to regain its feet in the brief reprieve.
Spectra raised an eyebrow. "So you're going to give me two small fry instead of the main course? Oh well, we'll obliterate whatever you've got."
Hydranoid turned to Masquerade. "Master, let us. Destroy him!"
Masquerade shook his head. "No not yet, this guy is packing a lot of power, however he isn't comfortable with this game as I am, so we're going to use that to our advantage." He said as he pulled out another bakugan.
"If you insist Master. We will obey." Dual Hydranoid relented.
Masquerade nodded. "You're powerful Helios, but nothing I can't handle! Bakugan Brawl! Stand Darkus Laserman!"
Laserman enters battle at 400 gs. Combined power level with Siege at 800 gs.
'This isn't my preferred strategy, but once I activate Even Steven's the battle will be forced to end in a tie, then I can use the darkus long shot to shoot at Helios from afar with Spectra unable to retaliate." Masquerade grinned.
Spectra sighed. "Oh how boring, Double Ability Activate." He slot in a card. "Void Stream plus-" He tried to slot another card in but the card was shot back out making Spectra frown glancing at Masquerade to see if he saw. To his slight relief the masked brawler seemed to be lost in thought. 'So no double abilities? Urgh, I'm starting to hate this version.' Sighing he relented and held up his gauntlet with Void Stream slotted in. "Ability Activate! Void Stream!"
Helios snorted smoke erupting from his nostrils before he opened his mouth and unleashed a stream of flames at the two darkus bakugan.
Siege and Laserman power level decrease by 400 gs. Laserman and Siege at 400 gs, Helios at 800 gs.
Masquerade's eyes widened 'Damnit! Not even Hydranoid can do that much damage! What the heck is with this bakugan?!' He thought his thoughts beginning to get panicked until Masquerade frowned and took a deep breath. 'Calm down you idiot, he's not thinking strategically he thinks a lot like Dan, throw out as much power as possible, with no regards for strategy. I'll save Even Stevens, see if I can have Spectra burn through a few more of his abilities before I use my trump card.'
"Ability Activate! Double Dimension!"
Siege jumped in front of Laserman and spun its staff the flames hitting it and being repelled.
Void Stream negated, battle tied at 800 gs.
Spectra snorted. "You're just delaying the inevitable.' He said with a sneer at Masquerade.
"Yes, I want a real fight! Bring on Hydranoid!" Helios roared loadly barring his teeth at Masquerade. "Unless, the 'ultimate bakugan' is too afraid to fight." He said curling his lip with a snort.
"Oh don't worry you'll get yours soon enough." Masquerade retorted folding his arms across his chest Hydranoid growling from where he was perched on Masquerade's shoulder.
"Hmph, try bouncing back from this! Ability Activate! Nova Defensor!" Spectra laughed as flames erupted around Helios who grabbed both of the opposing bakugan by the throats and held them up the flames licking at them as they surrounded Helios.
Helios power increase to 1000 gs, Siege and Laserman at 400 gs.
"Now how are you going to respond to this?!" Spectra demanded laughing at Masquerade who merely frowned.
Masquerade chuckled. "Reaching 1000 gs is quite the accomplishment, however, this battle isn't yours. Ability Activate! Even Stevens!" He shouted as he hurled the card out onto the field.
"Oh pipe down, I'm sick of these stalling tricks of yours, time for the real show!" Spectra said as the two power levels were evened out. "Ability Activate Burst Core!"
Masquerade watched in shock as fires consumed his ability card shattering it. "What?!"
Helios power level remains stable at 1000 gs, Siege and Laserman at 0 gs.
A massive explosion of flames erupted and slammed into Masquerade's bakugan.
Siege and Laserman both cried out before they disappeared into the flames. The sound of reverting was heard then two black and purple bakugan balls were flung back towards Masquerade both glowing slightly red from the heat of the flames.
"What, what just happened?" Masquerade said sounding shocked.
The flames began to clear and Masquerade could see the massive shape of Helios standing on the gate card, a glint of blue could be seen through the smoke and Masquerade watched as it cleared to reveal Spectra standing tall and smug with the one mechanical eye of his mask glinting maliciously. Helios roared in victory before he reverted and flew back to Spectra who caught him
"Burst core nullifies all your abilities." Spectra said as he tossed Helios's ball form up and down. "Meaning anything you activated was rendered obsolete." Then he frowned. "And your bakugan were dropped to zero, and Helios was at 1000 gs. Why are you not defeated and your bakugan in my grasp?"
Masquerade raised an eyebrow and rolled his eyes. "Oh right I forgot you were an idiot, the rules are you have to beat three of my bakugan, and likewise for me to beat you." He said. 'Though beating his helios will be extremely difficult, but luckily I still have Hydranoid left, and a few tricks left up my sleeve." He thought.
Spectra growled. "Fine, get on with it then!"
Masquerade rolled his eyes. "Patience my masked phony." He said mockingly. "There's still plenty of time for me to beat you!" He said. 'I just have to keep my cool and not lose it.' Pulling out a gate card from his deck he held it up. 'I hope my assumption is right.' "Gate Card set!" Masquerade shouted as he hurled out his gate card.
"Another gate card! Now that's just cowardice! Are you afraid to face me on my gatecard?!" Spectra said with a sneer.
"Wrong! Its strategy! Something you seem to know very little about!" Masquerade said as he grabbed Hydranoid. "Ready to watch my Hydranoid mop the floor with your helios?!"
"Bring it on." Spectra said catching helios and tightening his grip on his pyrus bakugan.
"Lets do this! Hydranoid!" Masquerade shouted hurling Hydranoid onto the field.
"Helios!" Spectra shouted hurling Helios onto the field as well.
The two bakugan smashed into each other in midair above Masquerade's gate card.
"BRAWL!" The two brawlers shouted as the two bakugan balls exploded into red and purple light Helios and Hydranoid appearing slashing biting and punching each other.
New battle commenced, Dual Hydranoid at 480 gs, Viper Helios at 600 gs.
"You've already lost this fight." Helios mocked as he bit into one of Hydranoid's necks making the two headed hydra bellow in pain.
"We're just. Getting started!" The two heads snapped back as the other head bit into Helios's neck.
The saw blade in Hydranoid's chest kicked in and began digging into Helios's belly as the two beasts clashed.
Helios let out a roar of agony as he drew back clutching the area where the blade had bit into him. Hydranoid drew back as well the head that hadn't been bitten glancing at the gaping wound in the throat of his other head.
The two combatants eyed each other while waiting for Masquerade to make a move to try and bridge the power gap that stood between Helios and Hydranoid.
"Ability Activate! Gazer Exedra!" Masquerade shouted as he tossed out the ability card. "Plus! Fusion Ability Activate! Destruction Impact!" He said holding up the card it fading out of sight.
Hydranoid roared as the injury to his throat was healed and he squared off against Helios.
"Prepare! For your end!" The two heads growled as dark energy blasts gathered in their maws.
Hydranoid power increase by 200 gs. Hydranoid at 680 gs.
The two heads sent their blasts flying at Helios who grunted at the hit and took a step back before shaking his head.
"Is that the best you've got?! Spectra! Let's finish these washed out has-beens!" Helios snarled glancing back at Spectra who smirked.
"Agreed." Spectra said slotting in an ability card. "Ability Activate! Maximum Quasar!"
Helios power increase by 300 gs. Helios at 900 gs.
"Try and beat me now Masquerade!" Spectra laughed as Helios unleashed an even larger ball of flames at Hydranoid.
"Oh I intend to!" Masquerade spat "Gate Card open! Character Card activate!" He said pointing at his gate card.
Spectra drew back frowning slightly. "Character Card?" He echoed as an image of Dual Hydranoid appeared at the feet of Helios and Hydranoid.
Masquerade smirked. "A character card is a card that doubles the power of that bakugan! So my Dual Hydranoid gets a major boost! Try to best that!" Masquerade said with a sneer as Hydranoid let out a roar dark energy gathering all around him and powering him up.
The flames hit Hydranoid who merely snorted raising an eyeridge at Helios.
"That all?" The darkus bakugan asked with a sneer.
Dual Hydranoid at 1360 gs. Helios at 900 gs.
"I can still win! If I take out your ability card Hydranoid's power will drop! Ability Activate! Nova Spiral!" Spectra shouted.
"Say bye bye to your boost!" Helios snarled as he sent a spiral of flames at Hydranoid that consumed the two headed beast.
"Ha! That's it! I've won!" Spectra shouted as the flames consumed the opposing bakugan.
Masquerade however merely tilted his head and chuckled.
Spectra glared at him and Helios snorted cutting off the flames.
"Its done." Helios said as the flames began to clear, but there was no sound of Hydranoid reverting, or of the field closing around them. Instead the shape of Dual Hydranoid began to come into view.
"No?! That's impossible!" Spectra shouted.
"So tell me Helios, was that your best shot?!" Hydranoid roared as he leaned forwards the flames dissipating around him.
Dual Hydranoid at 960 gs, Helios at 900 gs.
"No," Spectra said taking a step back as Helios's eyes widened. Dual Hydranoid gathering dark energy in his maws.
"No! No its not possible! You're weak! I beat you when you were at your best! How can you possibly win?!" Helios said drawing back. Hydranoid chuckled.
"Finish it Hydranoid." Masquerade said with a wave of his hand.
Dual Hydranoid roared as they unleashed a massive barrage of rapid fire darkus blasts at Helios the blasts pummeling him and pummeling him.
Helios let out a bellow of pain as he was steadily pushed back. The dragon dug in his feet trying to remain standing "No, no this cannot be! I am the AGH!" The pyrus bakugan let out one last cry as a blast slammed him in the head and he was sent flying off the gate card.
"Helios!" Spectra shouted as the pyrus bakugan flew over his head and reverted in an explosion of red light. The pyrus brawler watched dumbstruck as his bakugan dropped to the ground and began rolling towards him bumping into his foot. "No, how can this be! I am better, stronger, superior! How did you win?!" He demanded turning his head to glare at Masquerade.
Masquerade snorted as he held up his hand and let Hydranoid fly back into it. "I am the best for a reason moron, now throw down your next bakugan. I don't have all day."
Spectra scowled and reached down to pick up Helios before straightening up.
"Also don't go and try to throw out Helios, he's 'out' if you haven't realized." Masquerade added folding his arms across his chest.
Spectra clenched his fists. "Its time to end this." He said before he held up his gauntlet. "Field Closed!"
Masquerade's eyes widened in surprise as the field shattered around them. "So you intend to forfeit like a-ungh!" He grunted as he was met with a nasty punch to the face. The darkus brawler staggered back from the hit his mask going slightly askew from the blow, but still mostly remaining in place. "What the hell is your problem?!" Masquerade snapped adjusting his mask so that it sat better on his face, rubbing his bruised cheek slightly before shooting a glare at Spectra.
The hall seemed to feel darker than before, illuminated only by the glow of Spectra's mechanical eye. The pyrus brawler rubbed his aching knuckles before he reached behind him and pulled out a card.
"I'm done playing games." Spectra said as he slotted the card into his gauntlet and a glowing red blade of energy erupted from the end of it. "Its over for you!" He said rushing forwards and slashing at Masquerade.
"Whoa!" The darkus brawler gasped as he ducked under the swing and jumped back from the follow up. "What the hell?! Another person out to- You work for Vanessa don't you!" He said eyes widening behind his mask as he moved towards the wall crouching beside a small table with a vase on it.
Spectra smirked. "Took you long enough," He said as he swiped at Masquerade growling when the younger masked blond rolled away. Instead of cleaving through the masked blond the blade went straight through the vase and table he'd been crouching beside. Water, glass and wood went in two directions as Spectra's gauntlet blade hit the floor from the force of the slash.
Masquerade drew back walking backwards away from Spectra. 'Crap he just cleaved straight through glass and wood and it barely even slowed him down! I've gotta stop him!'
Spectra straightened up wincing as he noted the splinters and shards of glass that were sticking out of his gloved hand. Frowning he merely plucked them out ignoring the blood that flowed out of the cuts. He turned to Masquerade who was edging back. He smirked. "Scared now huh Masquerade? See Vanessa wanted you brought to her alive…. Granted." He brandished his gauntlet blade.
"She didn't say in how many pieces. Most clichéd line ever." Masquerade said continuing to draw back. 'The only real 'weapon' I've got is my DT. So I've got to get this right.' Reaching behind him he pulled the DT out of his pocket and held it tightly in his hand. 'If worse comes to worse I'll, I'll… I don't even know. He followed me once before. What's stopping him from doing it again?'
Spectra let out a cry as he rushed at Masquerade again the masked blond yelping and throwing himself to the side of the hall. But he was too slow and Spectra's blade caught him in the shoulder.
Masquerade howled in pain as he ducked low and rushed to the other side of the hall pausing to examine his bleeding shoulder.
The cut was deep, deep enough he could feel his arm beginning to numb from pain, but not deep enough for him to see bone thankfully. There was blood flowing steadily from the wound though.
'I need to get away! I have to stop the bleeding or I might lose my arm!' Masquerade could hear running footsteps towards him and snapped his head up to see Spectra running towards him raising his gauntlet blade to slice down on his head.
'Get me out of here!' Masquerade thought as his DT glowed and he disappeared in a flash of sparkles Spectra bringing his gauntlet blade down on only air.
Spectra blinked and looked around wildly before letting out a loud curse. "Masquerade you coward!" He roared. "Where are you?!" He said taking off down the hall.
/-/
Masquerade materialized in the library dropping to his knees and clutching his wounded upper arm, blood seeping through his fingers. "Agh it hurts." He muttered his DT lying beside him a few drops of blood on it.
"Gotta, gotta stop the bleeding." He muttered shedding his coat to examine the wound better. "Crap okay, pressure and wrap it." He glanced down at his coat. "I have others," He conceded before he grabbed onto it and tore a strip of white fabric from it and began to wrap it tightly around his bleeding arm. He held it up high so he could examine it and frowned when he could see the white fabric beginning to turn red. "That's not going to-"
He was cut off by the doors to the library being thrown open, the doors hitting the walls outside them with a loud bang. Masquerade's head snapping up to see the crazed Spectra standing there in the doorway panting heavily looking disheveled and angry his lips were curled up in a crazed grin.
"There you are." Spectra said advancing towards Masquerade the masked blond rising to his feet grabbing his DT from off the floor as he did so. "You shouldn't have run, I had to look so hard for you, but its all right," Brandishing the glowing gauntlet blade which looked to have the slightest hints of crimson on the edge. "Because you're mine now!" He said with a crazed laugh as he charged at Masquerade.
Masquerade looked wildly around the room when he spotted a chair that was along Spectra's path, if he timed it just right. Crouching Masquerade tightened his grip on his DT and braced himself.
Spectra laughed raising his gauntlet as he passed the chair Masquerade had targeted and took a swing at Masquerade. Masquerade disappeared in a flash of sparkles making Spectra slow and scowl.
"Not this again-nkh!" He gagged as Masquerade appeared on the chair behind him and jumped on him delivering a harsh kick to Spectra's back knocking the pyrus brawler to the ground.
"Yes! This again!" Masquerade hissed as he got on Spectra's back pinning him to the ground. Spectra tried to slash at him but Masquerade was able to grab his wrist and make Spectra stab himself in the side with it which earned him a cry of pain. Gritting his teeth Masquerade slammed Spectra's hand with the blade on the ground gripping his arm tightly enough to break it. "I am so sick of you people coming after me! What the hell do you want?! Is it revenge?! Did someone pay you for this?!" Spectra didn't answer as he struggled against Masquerade. "Answer me!" Masquerade roared.
There was no response just more thrashing. Masquerade could feel his temper rise along with growing hysteria. This was too much, it was becoming too much. He wanted answers and he'd get them. "TELL ME!" He snarled
Spectra frowned and turned his head slightly to glare at Masquerade with his blue mechanical eye. "No."
That was it. Masquerade's self control snapped. With a roar of rage he grabbed onto Spectra's head and pulled it up before he slammed the other boys skull into the hardwood floor below.
Spectra grunted in pain as Masquerade lifted his head up once more. "Tell me now." He hissed.
Spectra sneered at him, and Masquerade scowled slamming his head into the floor again.
Masquerade held his head there and waited, for a moment it was silent before Spectra chuckled.
"I wonder what you're precious… precious Jet. Would think of you… If you showed her the monster you really are. The freak you really are." He said with a laugh though it was thin with pain.
Masquerade's nostrils flared as he grabbed Spectra's head and slammed it into the floor and then repeated the action. "Shut up Shut up Shut up SHUT UP!" He roared at him. "You don't know any-" He trailed off as he noticed blood beginning to stain the floor. His eyes widened as he let go of Spectra's head the pyrus brawler's head just landing limply on the floor.
"Oh no." Masquerade rose shakily to his feet. He didn't know why he suddenly felt so weak. Was it bloodloss? Possibly, as he could see that the wound had bled through his wrapping. He staggered back from the limp form of Spectra who lay unmoving on the floor.
"You killed him." A voice spoke up behind him making Masquerade flinch. He turned his head and blanched at what he saw. In the library there was an old mirror that he'd put there out of lack of anywhere else to put it. It was behind several piles of books and in between two book shelves. A figure stood leaning against one of the bookshelves with his arms folded. As Masquerade tried to get a better look at the figure darkness began to swamp the area like a fog. Negative energy, and a whole lot of it.
Masquerade's breath caught in his throat as he drew back the sound of the figures footsteps telling him it was moving towards him. "What's the matter? Its what you wanted after all, to be the best. He was threatening to get rid of you, to ruin your chances of being the best."
"No, I couldn't have killed him." Masquerade said edging back as the figure laughed and he caught the flash of teeth and lips pulled back in a wicked grin.
"Who cares? You? Why, why should you allow yourself the weakness of remorse?" The figure questioned. "Come now, being the best is all that matters, having them all cower in fear at your feet! That's what you want! You want to be powerful! So powerful no one can ever touch you!"
Masquerade continued to walk backwards shaking his head uncertainly. Was this a nightmare? This voice. It was so familiar. He had a sinking feeling in his stomach. "Stop, I just, I just wanted it to stop!" He snapped clenching his fists. He had to try and grab his confidence back. "I don't know what I want! I want, I want to not have to look over my shoulder while these crazies hunt me down, I want to have."
"Oh please, you want that other worldly girl don't you. You want to have her at your side every moment. That's whats weakened you, made you no better than the rest. But its conflicting isn't it?" Masquerade drew back only to bump into the wall his heart racing as he could hear the footsteps drawing nearer and nearer. Cruel laughter sounded from in front of him. "Oh you poor poor thing, you want to be the best no matter what but you want the girl just as much. It's so confusing and conflicting you're losing everything." A blur of red erupted near the side of his vision and Masquerade's head snapped to the side pain erupting in his cheek. The masked brawler winced and before he could react he received another punch this time to the other side of his face.
"Stop it! What do you want?!" Masquerade demanded raising his hands to shield his face.
There was no answer just a punch to the gut that made Masquerade double over, followed with another punch to the face that sent him staggering sideways head slamming into the side of the nearby bookshelf. Masquerade groaned as he lay there feeling blood beginning to fall from where he'd slammed his temple into the side of the bookshelf. He could see the black boots of the figure and heard a rustling noise as they moved closer to him.
"What do I want?" The figure leaned in and grabbed Masquerade by the hair forcing him to look up at them.
Masquerade's head was spinning but he was shocked by what he saw, his jaw dropped and his mouth worked desperately to speak. "No, no, that's not, that's not-!"
A red and black gloved hand grasped Masquerade's mask. "I want your EVERYTHING!" It said with a laugh ripping the mask off the blond boy.
Masquerade's eyes widened in horror as the mask slipped off his face, his blood turning to ice as he watched the mask be held above him.
Then everything went black.
