Chapter Twenty-Two
Amanda and I stood in the middle of the pavement. We were getting very odd looks from people passing by. We were both dressed as if we were doing a play and had seemingly just come out of a porta-loo together.
'We need to get you to a hospital' Amanda said, being the voice of reason. She checked her phone but it had run out of battery a long time ago. She began to approach someone on the street to ask to use their phone. Everyone quickly scurried past. They seemed to think she wanted money or was just plain crazy. 'We'll have to go back to my flat to use the phone there. We'll call an ambulance. Come on' she led me as fast as I could go towards her flat.
I sat at the bottom of the stairs waiting for Manda to return. No way was I going to be able to make it up all of those stairs without passing out.
'Be there Piranha. Please, please' I could hear Manda beg as she hammered on her flat door.
'Where the pigging hell have you been?' I heard a man ask.
'Hello Michael' Manda replied. That was the last I heard as she pushed past him to enter the flat and the door closed behind them. I sat on the stairs and tried to wish the throbbing in my head away. The dizziness began to kick in and I knew that if I didn't get seen soon, I would pass out from the blood loss. All I wanted right now was for George to hold me.
Manda suddenly appeared next to me. I hadn't heard her approach. Maybe the blood loss was affecting me more than I thought. 'The ambulance will be here in 2 minutes. You get in the ambulance and I'll follow behind. Michael's got a moped. I need to find Elizabeth and tell her that her Dad's hurt' she told me.
Faster than I thought the ambulance had arrived. Paramedics bundled me into the ambulance and strapped me to a stretcher. They started speaking loud and urgent words over me. I couldn't focus and make out what they were saying. My vision began to blur and narrow. My thoughts remained on George. Maybe I was dying. Maybe I would live but how would we even get back into the fictional world. I never told him that I loved him. I let the darkness take me and gave into unconsciousness.
