The Truth ALWAYS Comes Out Chapter 17: Surprise Week Part 3
Wednesday morning arrived and everybody was out of the house except Brooke and Haley by 7:30am. Brooke and Haley were just getting up when Rachel Left. They both had toast for breakfast and then headed for the showers to get ready for their appointments. The girls left the house at 8:30am and headed to the doctors office while finishing their water bottles. Brooke pulled into the parking lot at the doctor's office at 8:50am and she and Haley headed inside, they signed in and sat down till they were called in.
At exactly 9am the nurse came out and called both Brooke and Haley and the girls followed her to the exam room.
Nurse: okay ladies, who's going first?
Brooke: I will
Nurse: alright Ms. Davis, if you could hop up on the table, lay back and lift your shirt up for me
Brooke: of course
Brooke got up on the table and pulled her shirt up enough that her stomach was in full view
Nurse: perfect, this gel is going to be a little cold at first
Brooke: okay
The nurse put the gel on Brooke's stomach and started the ultra sound
Nurse: congratulations Ms. Davis it looks like your 9 weeks pregnant and everything is right on schedule
Brooke: really 9 weeks?
Nurse: yes 9 weeks, would you like to see?
Brooke: yes please
The Nurse turned the monitor toward Brooke and pointed to the tiny blob on the screen that was her baby
Nurse: that there is your baby
Haley: wow
Brooke: yea wow is right; I can't believe Lucas and I made that
Nurse: well in a little under 7 months your gonna be a mommy
Brooke: I know
Nurse: you can clean up and switch places with Mrs. Scoot
Brooke: okay
Brooke cleaned up the goof and pulled her shirt down and got off the table so Haley could get up and have her ultra sound done.
Nurse: okay Mrs. Scoot this gel will be cold
Haley: okay
The nurse put the gel on Haley's stomach and started the ultra sound
Nurse: congratulations Mrs. Scott you are 9 weeks pregnant and everything is right on schedule
Haley: wow, can I see?
Nurse: of course
The nurse turned the monitor towards Haley and pointed towards the blob on the screen that was her baby
Haley: Nathan and I made this, it's incredible
Nurse: you can get cleaned up now and I'll print off pictures for the both of you
Brooke: Thank you
Haley: thank you very much
Haley cleaned off the goo and pulled her shirt down, got off the table and stood beside Brooke while the nurse printed off pictures from both their ultra sounds.
Nurse: here are your pictures Ms. Davis and yours Mrs. Scott, congratulations again
Brooke: thank you so much
Haley: we appreciate it
Nurse: your very welcome, have a good day and good luck!
Brooke and Haley slipped the pictures into their purses and head out to the front office to book their next appointment for 2 months down the road. After their appointments were booked the girls were headed back to the car when Brooke bumped into someone
Brooke: I'm so sorry
Male: no worries, it's all good
Brooke looked up and was shocked at who she saw standing in front of her
Brooke: Andy?
Male: I'm sorry do I know you?
Brooke: I would think so; I'm your niece Brooke Davis
Andy: Brookie cookie?
Brooke: nobody's called me that in years
Andy: what are you doing in New York? Last I heard you were living in California with clay and your mother
Brooke: yea well Victoria sent me back to dad's after Clay left home. I lived with dad until he passed away
Andy: Richard died? When?
Brooke: almost 2 years ago now, he suffered a fatal heart attack, I tried to find you to let you know but I had no luck
Andy: I'm so sorry Brooke, if I had known….
Brooke; I know, anyway I moved her with my boyfriend and friends so we could all go to NYU together, which reminds me Uncle Andy this is one of my best friends Haley Scott, Haley this is my dad's brother Andy Davis
Haley: It's nice to meet you Mr. Davis
Andy: please call me Andy and it's nice to meet you Ms. Scott
Haley: actually it's Mrs. Scott but you can call me Haley
Andy: oh I'm sorry
Haley: it's okay
Brooke: how long have been in New York Uncle Andy?
Andy: almost four years, I moved here with my wife Karen and we had a daughter two years ago here name is Lily
Brooke: wow congratulations I would love to meet them
Andy: I agree I would love for you to meet them too and I want to meet this boyfriend of yours as well
Brooke: his name is Lucas and I'm sorry he's my fiancé now gotta remember that when I introduce him
Andy: well congratulations Brookie, we should do dinner sometime
Brooke: absolutely, how about tomorrow night say 7pm?
Andy: that's perfect, where?
Brooke: you guys can come to the house for dinner I'll cook and you can meet Lucas and the gang
Andy: sounds perfect
Brooke: awesome, here's the address and my cell number and we will see you tomorrow night
Andy: we will see you tomorrow night
Brooke handed a piece of paper to Andy with her address and phone number on it. He put it in his pocket and gave Brooke a hug good-bye and shook Haley's hand before heading off the direction he was going in before bumping into Brooke and Haley. The girls headed to their car so they could head to campus for their 10:30am class.
Brooke and Haley made it to campus at 10:15 am with just enough time to get a hot chocolate and make it to their class with five minutes to spare.
1 ½ hours later Brooke and Haley were heading to the quad to meet everyone for lunch. The girls made it to their usual tale first and 10 minutes later Lucas and Nathan showed up.
Lucas: afternoon ladies
Brooke: afternoon broody
Haley: hey Luke
Nathan: hello ladies
Brooke: hotshot
Haley: husband
Lucas: so did you girls do more shopping this morning?
Brooke: no, we went for breakfast and then I literally bumped into someone on the street
Nathan: being your clumsy old self again cookie?
Brooke: yea laugh it up, it was a complete accident
Lucas: sure it was
Brooke: it was! However as it turns out it was my Uncle
Lucas: your uncle?
Brooke: yea my dad's brother Andy Davis
Lucas: why haven't we met him?
Brooke: I haven't seen him since my parents divorce and after my dad died he couldn't be found
Nathan: and now he suddenly turns up in the same city you're in, that's just a little weird
Brooke: Andy said he's been in the city for almost four years
Lucas: so do we get to meet him?
Brooke: yes Andy and his wife will be joining up for dinner tomorrow night with their daughter
Nathan: okay
Lucas: so who's cooking?
Brooke: don't worry boys I'll be cooking tomorrow night
Nathan: okay good
Brooke: oh can I feel the love, thanks boys
Lucas & Nathan: you're welcome
Peyton, Jake, Rachel, Clay and Quinn walked up and sat down at the table.
Clay: so Brookie how was your morning?
Brooke: oh it was very interesting but I'm sure you already know all about it
Clay: I have no idea what you're talking about
Brooke: yea I'm sure, how long have you known?
Clay: all along, I went to him when I left home. I'm sorry Brooke
Brooke: you're telling me you've been in touch since you left? How could you keep this from me?
Clay: I honestly didn't mean to I just haven't had a chance to tell you beside I haven't talked to him in weeks until this morning after he bumped into you and Haley
Brooke: hmm well okay, are you joining us for dinner tomorrow night?
Clay: of course I will be there
Brooke: so have you met his wife and daughter?
Clay: yes actually Quinn and I are Lily's god parents and his wife Karen is a lovely women
Brooke: well I can't wait to meet them.
Everybody sat and talked for a few minutes before getting lunch. After getting their lunch they made it back to their table and settled into light conversation with each other.
45 minutes later the gang was gathering their things and heading off to their next classes. The boys went left and the girls went right.
The girls were headed to Professor Hudson's class, the one that had been cancelled the previous day and rescheduled for today at 2pm. Brooke was not looking forward to seeing Victoria especially after receiving that voicemail the previous day.
Brooke, Haley, Rachel and Peyton walked into the classroom and found their seats just as Prof. Hudson and Victoria walked in.
Brooke mumbled under her breath "oh wonderful" and Haley, Peyton and Rachel heard it and snickered.
Prof: good afternoon everyone
Class: good afternoon Professor Hudson
Prof: I'm sorry about cancelling class yesterday, so today's class will be partly a filler for yesterday, so please pull out your notebooks and give your complete attention to Mrs. Evans.
The class pulled out their notebooks/laptops and started taking notes as Mrs. Evens continued to talk.
Victoria continued to talk for most of the class and by the time she finished it gave Professor Hudson just enough time to give the class their assignment for the week.
Once the class had the assignment written down Professor Hudson told them to pack up and he would see them the following Tuesday for their regular class.
Brooke, Haley, Peyton and Rachel gathered their things and headed out with Brooke leading the way so she didn't have to face Victoria. Brooke and Haley were headed for the car so the girls could go grocery shopping in order to make their special dinners for the guys to share the news.
Haley wanted to drive so Brooke put her bag in the back seat and climbed into the passenger seat while Haley did the same but got into the drivers seat and started the car and pulled out of the parking lot and headed to Target.
Haley pulled the car into the Target parking lot and found a parking spot near the front doors. They grabbed their purses and headed inside. Brooke grabbed a cart and they headed to the vegetables. They picked up carrots, potatoes, green pepper and onions before heading to the meat department where they picked up skinless boneless chicken breast. Haley went and grabbed rolls to go with dinner, while Brooke went to get Alfredo sauce and noodles. Haley and Brooke then made their way over to the pharmacy so they could pick up prenatal vitamins. After they finished at the pharmacy Brooke and Haley decided to get a couple movies as well once the girls had everything they needed for dinner they headed for the infant department to get something for Lucas and Nathan to surprise them after dinner with the gift and ultrasound pictures.
After searching through the infant section for what felt like hours, the girls finally found the perfect item to buy for the guys. Haley and Brooke both picked up black and orange shirts one said mini basketball star and the other said my daddy rocks. They bought two of each so the guys each got one. After putting the shirts in the cart the girls headed to get gift boxes and then they headed towards the checkout. Brooke and Haley put all the items together on one bill and split the total in half. Once everything was paid for the girls headed back to the car and leaded the groceries in and headed for home.
When Brooke and Haley arrived home they unloaded the car and headed to the kitchen, put the bags on the counter then they took the special bag into the dinning room and started to wrap and box everything up before anybody else got home. Once the stuff was wrapped and hidden the girls went into the kitchen to start dinner.
Haley started chopping the vegetables while Brooke was preparing the chicken so it could go in the frying pan. Once the chicken was in the frying pan Brooke filled a pot with water for the noodles.
Haley finished chopping the vegetables and threw them into the pan with oil and chicken broth to get the juices flowing before putting them in with the chicken.
The water started to boil and Brooke put the noodles in the water and went to check on the chicken. Once the chicken was done Brooke transferred all the vegetables and juices into the pan of chicken for ten minutes while the noodles finished. When the noodles were done Haley drained them and covered the bottom of a 9x13 glass pan with half the noodles and Brooke brought over the chicken and vegetable mix and evenly placed it on top of the noodles and then Haley poured one jar of alfredo sauce over top, then she poured the rest of the noodles on top and the second jar of alfredo sauce on top before putting it in the oven.
After dinner was put in the oven the girls cleaned up the kitchen and then headed to their rooms to shower and get dressed for when the boys got home.
An hour later the girls were dressed and just sitting down after turning the oven off when the front door opened and in walked Rachel and Peyton with Jenny.
Brooke: hey!
Rachel: hey, what smells so good?
Haley: oven baked chicken Alfredo
Peyton: mmm, sounds good
Brooke: well there's plenty for everybody
Rachel: thanks but I'm going out with Chase tonight, just came home to shower and change
Haley: okay, have fun tonight
Rachel: oh I will
Brooke: what about you and Jake? 'She asked Peyton'
Peyton: thanks but I think Jake and I are going to have a quiet night upstairs with Jenny
Brooke: okay but your welcome to join us for dinner or you can take some upstairs for you and Jake
Peyton: we might take you up on that, I don't really feel like cooking but Jake might
Haley: well the boys should be home anytime now
Just as Haley finished talking the front door opened and in walked Lucas, Nathan and Jake
Brooke: speak of the devils and they shall appear
Lucas: that's no way to talk to your fiancé
Brooke: oh I'm sorry 'she said trying not to laugh'
Lucas: I'm sure you are
Haley: you boys should go shower dinners almost ready
Nathan: I wondered what smelled so good
Brooke: well you're not going to find out until you go shower
Lucas: we see how it is; you just don't want to smell us
Nathan: we don't stink
Jake: hate to break it to you but we kinda do, we did just come from practice and didn't shower after
Nathan: oh hush Jake; you have to shower to if you want any dinner
Jake: I guess it's a good thing Peyton and I are having a quiet night upstairs with Jenny then
Peyton: yep but I don't feel like cooking
Jake: guess I'm cooking then
Brooke: you don't have to Jake, Haley and I made plenty so you're welcome to take some upstairs with you if you want
Jake: thanks Brooke we may take you up on that
With that Jake and Peyton headed upstairs with Jenny. Once upstairs Jake headed for the shower and Peyton took Jenny into the kitchen to feed her.
Meanwhile downstairs Brooke and Haley headed into the kitchen to put the finishing touches on dinner. They added the grated cheese on top of the chicken Alfredo and slipped it back in the oven while they threw together a salad and placed the garlic bread on the cookie tray to go in the oven for 10 minutes.
Once everything was in the oven the girls set the table for four but they also pulled out two extra plates for Jake and Peyton. As soon as the table was set the girls headed back into the kitchen to pull the garlic bread and the chicken Alfredo out of the oven. Brooke dished out the chicken Alfredo onto plates for Jake and Peyton as well as salad and garlic bread, and then she covered the plates with tin foil before taking them upstairs.
Haley was busy setting all the food out on the table when Brooke walked back in with two bottles of bear for the boys and two wine glasses full of apple juice for them selves so the boys didn't question them on not drinking alcohol before the girls could tell them.
5 minutes after the table was set the girls were standing in the entrance was waiting for Lucas and Nathan. When the boys rounded the corner they saw Brooke and Haley standing there waiting and started to get curious as to why.
Lucas: what's going on ladies?
Brooke: oh nothing, we just wanted to have a nice dinner with our fiancé/husband
Haley: is that such a crime?
Nathan: no, but it sounds like you two are up to something
Lucas: I agree with Nate, are you two up to something?
Brooke: we're not up to anything honest
Lucas & Nathan: okay
Haley: now that the third degree is over with shall we sit down for dinner
The girls turned and headed into the dining room with the boys following
Nathan: you girls certainly went to a lot of trouble for a simple dinner with us
Brooke: oh it was nothing at all
Haley: very easy, only took us about an hour and a half
Lucas: well I'm starved so let's dig in
Nathan: me too
Brooke: alright, alright dig in
And that's just what the boys did, they dug into the chicken Alfredo and the salad as well as the garlic bread and the girls followed suit filling up their plates which didn't go unnoticed by Lucas or Nathan and they shared a look figuring they would get to the bottom of it later.
Brooke, Haley, Lucas and Nathan sat and talked about their day and how classes were going. The girls asked about the team and if they were ready for the game on Friday and the guys asked about the squad and if the girls got the routine figured out. When they finished eating the guys decided it was time to find out what Brooke and Haley were hiding.
Nathan: so where did you guys have breakfast this morning?
Brooke: actually we didn't go for breakfast this morning
Lucas: then what did you do?
Haley: how about dessert?
Nathan: you're changing the subject Hales, why?
Haley: it's a surprise, now who wants dessert?
Lucas: what's the surprise?
Brooke: you'll find out soon, c'mon Hales lets clear the table and bring in dessert
Brooke and Haley cleared the table and headed into the kitchen to dish up the dessert they bought
Haley: that was close
Brooke: I know, they are on to us, thank goodness we're telling them tonight
Haley: I know right
Brooke: well let's grab the dessert and head back in before they come looking for us
Haley: good idea
The girls grabbed the dessert, clean plates and forks and headed back into the dining room where the guys were talking about the team and game on Friday.
Brooke: okay, who wants apple pie?
Lucas & Nathan: ME!
Haley: jeez you two are like five year olds when it comes to dessert
Nathan: yea, yea you tell us that all the time
Lucas: did you make it?
Brooke: no its store bought
Nathan: oh
Haley: you'll live; store bought isn't going to kill you
Lucas: it might
Brooke: oh stop being babies and just eat it
Haley: then maybe you can have your surprise
Lucas & Nathan: fine
Brooke and Haley just laughed and sat down to ear their pie before telling Lucas and Nathan. However Lucas decided it was the perfect time to ask Brooke about her Uncle Andy.
Lucas: so where did you bump into your Uncle this morning?
Nathan: seriously Brooke, we can't let you go out in public anymore, you're a danger to everyone not just yourself
Brooke: thanks a lot hot shot, you're just as bad and you know it
Nathan: ha-ha very funny
Brooke: I thought so
Lucas: anyway where did you bump into your uncle?
Brooke: outside the coffee shop on 12th street, thank god I wasn't actually drinking coffee
Lucas: did you talk for long?
Brooke: I'd say maybe 10 minutes, he and my dad had a disagreement years ago and I haven't seen him since. He said he's been living in New York for the last four years or so, his wife's name is Karen and they have a daughter named Lily.
Nathan: how old is Lily?
Brooke: she's two if I remember correctly
Lucas: so they're coming for dinner tomorrow night?
Brooke: yes they should be here around 7pm
Lucas: okay well we have practice till five but we should be home by 5:30-5:45 at the latest
Brooke: sounds good, I'll have dinner in the oven by six
Lucas: okay, sounds good
Nathan: is it time for our surprise yet?
Haley: I don't know, Brooke what do you think?
Brooke: I'm not sure; I think we should do the dishes first
Lucas: if you let us have our surprise we will do the dishes tonight and tomorrow night
Brooke: hmm that's a tempting offer, Hales?
Haley: very tempting but I'm not convinced they deserve it
Nathan: please, please we will do the dishes for a week
Brooke & Haley: deal
Lucas: jeez thanks Nate, a full week of dish duty
Nathan: it's only fair that we do the dishes, a week won't kill you
Haley: Brooke do you feel like our men have switched places?
Brooke: I know usually its Nate complaining
Nathan: hey, we want our surprise!
Haley: help us clear the table then we can go into the living room and we will give you your surprise
Lucas: okay deal
Brooke, Haley, Lucas and Nathan cleared the table, put all the leftovers away then headed into the living room. The boys each sat in the recliners so they could put their feet up and drink their beer, while the girls sat on the couch and each pulled a box out from behind the cushions.
Brooke and Haley handed the boys the boxes first and got their cameras ready to see the confused faces of their men.
Brooke: go ahead and open them
Lucas and Nathan opened the boxes as fast as they could and when they saw what was inside their jaws dropped open and they were looking back and fourth between the girls and the boxes. Haley and Brooke got the perfect pictures before handing them each an envelope to open.
Haley: now open the envelopes
Nathan and Lucas carefully opened their envelopes and pulled out the picture that was inside and just starred at it in shock while the girls took another picture. Nathan and Lucas were speechless for a good five minutes before speaking.
Lucas: Brooke?
Nathan: Haley?
Brooke & Haley: SURPRISE!
Lucas: are you pregnant Brooke?
Nathan: are you pregnant Haley?
Brooke & Haley: YES!
Nathan and Lucas jumped out of their seats and pulled the girls up and spun them around
Lucas: when did you find out?
Brooke: we went to the doctors yesterday and had blood work done then we went back this morning for the ultrasounds
Haley: that's why we wanted to know when your first class was this morning; we wanted you guys to come with us
Brooke: but then we decided a surprise would be better and much more fun
Nathan: how far along are you two?
Haley: 9 weeks
Brooke: 9 weeks
Lucas & Nathan: 9 weeks?
Brooke & Haley: yep
With all the excitement they didn't hear Jake and Peyton come down stairs
Jake: what's going on down here?
Lucas & Nathan: Brooke/Haley is pregnant 'they shouted at the same time'
Peyton: say that again but one at a time
Lucas: Brooke's pregnant
Nathan: Haley's pregnant
Rachel: what?
Brooke, Haley, Peyton, Jake, Lucas and Nathan turned around and found a shocked Rachel standing there
Brooke: hey slut, I thought you were out with Chase?
Rachel: I was, not what did I hear when I walked in?
Brooke: oh that, Haley and I are pregnant
Rachel: wow, congratulations
Brooke: thanks
Haley: thanks
Peyton: congratulations!
Brooke & Haley: thank you
Jake: congratulations, now Luke and Nate can get off my back about being over protective
Nathan: nope not going to happen
Lucas: its fun for us
Jake: well you guys are just gonna get it back ten fold then
Nathan & Lucas: bring it on
Brooke: okay boys, stop being babies
Haley: we're already gonna have two in less then 7 months we don't need you three acting like it all the time
Nathan & Lucas & Jake: fine
Brooke: is Jenny asleep Peyt?
Peyton: yea out like a light
Brooke: well why don't we sit down and watch a movie
Peyton: sounds good
Rachel: I'm game
Haley: me too
Lucas: sure
Nathan: okay
Jake: what movie?
Brooke: I don't care you guys pick, oh and Rach my uncle Andy and his family will be here tomorrow for dinner, you should invite Chase it's a family dinner so everybody is included
Rachel: okay I'll ask him and let you know
Brooke: perfect
The guys finally decided on a movie and they all settled down to watch Fast and the Furious 6, but before they started the movie Nathan and Lucas went into the kitchen to put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and pop popcorn for everyone. When they got back to the living room they sat down next to their girls and started the movie and that's how the unconventional family found themselves spending the rest of Wednesday night.
Well there ends Chapter 17. What did you guys think? Next chapter is the dinner with Brooke's Uncle Andy and his family with lots more surprises in store. Chapter 18 is about ¾ done and I should have it up by Friday at the latest.
