Chapter 18: Surprise Week Part 4
Thursday morning the house was in full swing, the girls were out of the house first with an 8am class to get to. The boys didn't have class until 9:30am so they got a little extra time at the house.
Once the girls got to campus they headed towards the coffee cart to get there morning caffeine fix before heading to class. When the girls got to class they found seats and got their books out and ready for the professor to start the lecture.
Two and a half hours later the girls were heading to the quad before their next class. The girls had been sitting there for ten minutes when they realize someone is standing there. When they look up they find a smiling Uncle Cooper looking at them.
Rachel: Uncle Cooper! 'Said Rachel as she got up to hug him'
Brooke: what are you doing here Uncle Cooper?
Cooper: Rachel told me about the family dinner tonight with your Uncle Andy and his family and I wanted to be here to meet them and Rachel's new boyfriend.
Rachel: Uncle Cooper 'Rachel whined' how did you find out?
Cooper: Brooke told me
Brooke: thanks Uncle Coop now she's gonna kick my ass
Rachel: no I wont, don't wanna harm my niece or nephew so I'll wait the nine months
Cooper: what!?
Brooke: Surprise! I'm pregnant, thanks a lot slut
Rachel: your welcome bitch
Cooper: girls enough! Brooke congratulations, I'm disappointed you didn't tell me though and Rachel, Brooke is just looking out for you as am I, we gotta make sure Chase is a decent guy
Brooke: thanks Uncle Coop, and I was going to tell you, I just wanted a few days to adjust to the idea
Cooper: how long have you known?
Brooke: the day before yesterday but I only told Lucas last night
Rachel: I'm sorry Brooke
Brooke: I'm sorry too Rach
Cooper: that's my girls, now who had class?
Rachel: we all do
Brooke: I'm not going, I still have to get stuff for dinner tonight and I really don't wanna sit through Professor Hudson's class today, I still can't believe he decided to add an extra class this week
Cooper: and why not?
Rachel: because Bitch Victoria is assisting with his class this semester and Brooke and Clay have both had it out with her already
Cooper: oh… did you say Clay?
Brooke: yea, apparently my brother has been living in the city for awhile, and so have Victoria with her new husband and his kids
Cooper: wow, well why don't we go shopping and then you can show me this house of yours
Brooke: sounds good to me, lets go
Rachel: Hey, I wanna come too
Cooper: fine you can come; I would enjoy spending a day with my girls
Brooke: wait, we can't go otherwise Haley and Peyton won't be able to get home
Cooper: we can still go; I have a rental car here
Brooke: perfect, here Hales, the car is yours for the rest of the day
Haley: thanks Brooke, I'll see you at home in about 3 hours or so and I'll help you with dinner too
Peyton: I'll help too
Brooke: thanks girls
Cooper: okay, well we better go or we will never get everything in time
Brooke: right, let's go
Haley/Peyton: have fun!
Brooke/Rachel: we will!
Brooke, Rachel and Uncle Cooper headed towards Cooper's rental car. Once they reached the car they all piled in and headed off to the grocery store. 20 minutes later they pulled into the parking lot of Fresh Co and headed inside. The three of them grabbed a cart and headed towards the produce section.
Cooper: so Brooke what do we need for dinner tonight?
Brooke: well I'm making Pork Tenderloin with homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, roasted carrots, roasted onions, corn on the cob and Caesar salad. For dessert I was thinking id make a triple chocolate cake and a cherry cheese cake.
Rachel: mmm that sounds really good Brooke, your making me hungry
Cooper: I know right, your making me hungry too
Brooke: well you'll just have to wait till dinner tonight
Cooper: let's get the vegetables first and we will work our way through the store
Rachel: well let's get started
Uncle Cooper pushed the cart around while Brooke and Rachel were grabbing the fruits and vegetables they needed for dinner. They grabbed celery, potatoes, and corn on the cob, carrots, lettuce, onions, cherries and strawberries. They then headed to the meat section and Brooke picked out two pork tenderloins while Rachel went and grabbed the bread and rolls. Next they headed to the baking isle to get what they needed for the cheese cake and the triple chocolate cake. After they had everything they needed for dinner they headed to get pop, water and juice. Brooke also grabbed milk and cream for tea and coffee.
Once the trio had everything they needed they headed to the checkout. 15 minutes later they were out at the car loading all the groceries into the truck when that was done Uncle Cooper returned the shopping cart and Brooke drove them to the house. Half an hour later Brooke pulled Uncle Cooper's rental car into the driveway. The three of them got out and grabbed the groceries out of the truck and headed inside. Once in the house they took all the groceries to the kitchen and unpacked.
Brooke started in on the stuffing while Rachel prepared the pork tenderloins so it could be stuffed and put in the oven. Rachel finished prepping the pork and passed it off to Brooke so she could stuff it and tie it together as well as season it, once the pork tenderloins were ready Brooke put them in a pan and added a quarter cup of water to the pan and set it aside so she could prepare the carrots. Brooke turned to grab the carrots but couldn't find them.
Brooke: where are the carrots?
Cooper: right here, peeled and washed
Brooke: thanks Uncle Cooper, your awesome
Brooke added the carrots to the pan around the pork tenderloins and as she finished Rachel handed her half the onion cut into fours and Brooke added it to the pan as well and then she placed it in the oven at 350F.
Once Brooke had placed the pork roasts in the oven she turned to start peeling potatoes only to find Rachel already doing it, so she went to grab the corn but Uncle Cooper beat her to that as well. Brooke then decided she would start on the Caesar Salad, so she started chopping the lettuce and placed it in the bowl, and then she added the bacon bits and croutons. Once that was done she started grating the parmesan cheese on top. When that was done she covered it with tin foil and took it out to the table.
Uncle Cooper came back with the corn husked and ready to be put in the pot of boiling water. Rachel was done peeling and cutting potatoes so they went into another pit filled with water and put on the stove. Brooke had already started on the cherry cheese cake and was almost done, she just needed to add the cherries and put it in the fridge to chill
Rachel and Uncle Cooper started setting the table and once it was done Rachel pulled out two bottles of wine, a red and a white and placed them on the table. The duo then went back to the kitchen to help Brooke with the triple chocolate cake she was making. 20 minutes later the cake was ready to be placed in the oven for an hour.
When everything was either done or cooking Brooke figured it was time to show Uncle Cooper around.
Brooke: thank you guys for helping me with dinner, but I think its time for the grand tour
Cooper: your very welcome and sounds good, where do we start
Rachel: let's start in the basement and work our way up
Brooke: sounds good to me
Cooper: me too, lead the way Rachel
Rachel: okie dokie
Rachel headed for the basement with Brooke and Uncle Cooper following
Brooke: so down here is Rachel's room and bathroom as well as a work out room which mainly get used by the guys when they don't have practice
Cooper: very nice
Rachel: up stairs we go
With that the trio headed all the way up stairs
Brooke: this is Peyton, Jake and Jenny's space, they have their own kitchen and bathroom but we usually all eat together
Cooper: that's awesome, I bet they love it
Rachel: they do, it gives them their privacy
Brooke: onto the main floor
Uncle Cooper and Rachel followed Brooke back down to the main floor
Rachel: this is the living room, we have our movie nights in here, down the hallway we have the bathroom which Nathan and Haley use and that's their bedroom, across the hall is a spare
Brooke: at the end of the hall is mine & Luke's room and we have an on suit
Rachel: you saw the kitchen and dining room already
Brooke: and off the kitchen is the backyard complete with deck and BBQ. Were talking about putting in a hot tub this year and a swimming pool next year but its not guaranteed
Cooper: this house is amazing, the university was very generous, the only thing is when are you going to put the nursery when its time?
Brooke: well there are 3 bedrooms on the main floor so we could always use that but Haley and Nathan are expecting too but I didn't tell you that…
Cooper: my lips our sealed…
Brooke: so I was thinking we either share that bedroom as a nursery or we talk to Jake and Peyton about switching floors because they're four bedrooms up stairs which would be perfect
Cooper: seems like you've got it figured out
Brooke: not completely, it's just an idea
Rachel: yea but it's a start
Brooke: true, but we should go check on dinner and dessert it won't be long before people get here
Rachel: you go shower and get changed I'll check on dinner
Brooke: are you sure?
Cooper: yes go we've got dinner covered
Brooke: okay thank you, love you guys
Rachel: love you too slut
Cooper: love you too cookie
Brooke headed off to her bedroom to shower and change well Rachel and Uncle Cooper headed to the kitchen to check on dinner. 30 minutes later Brooke was coming out of the bedroom freshly showered and dressed when the front door opened and in walked Haley, Peyton, Jenny, Nathan, Jake and Lucas followed by Clay and Quinn.
Brooke: you guys are home earlier then I expected
Haley: yea Professor Hudson ended class early even though it was an added class, not sure why all he said was there was some kind of emergency. Point less going to begin with
Brooke: weird
Peyton: very, but I'm not complaining I didn't want to sit there any longer and listen to the same shit all over again
Haley: so boring, Victoria doesn't know what she's talking about half the time
Rachel: she never knows what she's talking about 'she said coming into the living room'
Brooke: why are you guys home, I thought you had practice?
Nathan: we were supposed to but half the team didn't show up so we cancelled it today
Brooke: oh okay
Haley: so what do you need help with?
Brooke: nothing, we got everything done
Rachel: the dessert is all made, the corn is done, the potatoes are done, salad is made, just waiting on the pork tenderloin and they are almost done as well
Peyton: wow, you guys have been busy
Brooke: yea, Rachel & Uncle Cooper have been a huge help
Clay: did you say Uncle Cooper?
Cooper: she most certainly did!
Clay: Uncle Coop what are you doing here?
Cooper: I came to see my two favourite girls and Brooke told this is where you've been living
Clay: yea, I was living with Uncle Andy for a while then I met Quinn and we got our own place.
Cooper: well I'm glad you're doing well
Clay: yea me too, it's been a bumpy road since I left California
Clay: I'm just glad to have my sister back as well as my best friend
Cooper: one big family reunion
Brooke: you have no idea
Cooper: oh I do, just think everybody in this room is related one way or another
Rachel: Uncle Cooper! Really?
Cooper: oh come on its funny
Brooke: not really
Cooper: yes it is
Rachel: how do you figure?
Cooper: cause, Lucas, Nathan and Rachel are siblings and cousins, Brooke and Clay are siblings and Haley and Quinn are sisters. Quinn is dating Clay, Haley is married to Nathan and Brooke and Lucas are engaged. Jake and Peyton are family Jenny is the cutest niece any of you could ask for and then there's me, I'm related to everybody in this room one way or another
Brooke: wow Uncle Cooper, I never thought of it that way
Rachel: yea, that's just creepy
Clay: makes us sound like a bunch of hillbillies
Cooper: oh it's not that bad, its better then finding out you all are related to each other
Everybody: UNCLE COOPER!
Cooper: what? 'He said laughing'
Brooke: it's not funny
Cooper: okay I'll stop
Rachel: good, if you follow me you can get cleaned up for dinner
Cooper: sounds good
Rachel led Cooper to the spare bedroom so he could get cleaned up and change his clothes before Brooke and Clay's uncle and his family arrived.
Back in the living room
Brooke: why don't the rest of use get cleaned up, Uncle Andy and his family will be here in 45 minutes. With that, Jake and Peyton headed upstairs with Jenny to get changed for dinner while Haley and Nathan went to their room to get changed and Lucas went to his and Brooke's room to get changed. Rachel made her way downstairs after showing Cooper to the guest room to get changed herself.
Brooke headed to the kitchen to check on the pork tenderloins and Clay and Quinn followed because they were already dressed for dinner
Clay: what can we help with Cookie?
Brooke: absolutely nothing, I've got everything covered
Clay: Brooke, please let us help you
Brooke: fine! You can set the table
Clay: okay then, how many settings do we need?
Brooke: well we've got you and Quinn, Rachel, Uncle Cooper, Jake, Peyton and Jenny, Haley, Nathan, Lucas and myself plus Uncle Andy, his wife and daughter so 14 seats
Clay: okay sounds good
Brooke: if you need more chairs they are in the basement, I think there's only ten in the dinning room.
Quinn: no worries, we've got it covered
Brooke: thank you
Clay and Quinn headed into the dinning room to set the table only to find it already set but they needed extra chairs, so they headed to the basement to get them while Brooke stayed in the Kitchen to check on dinner.
20 minutes later the kitchen started filling up and Brooke was pulling dinner out of the oven when the door bell rang. Clay and Quinn walked into the kitchen just as Brooke was heading to the front door.
Clay: I'll come with you Brooke
Brooke: okay
Brooke and Clay headed towards the front door to let their Uncle Andy and his family in. when they opened the front door Andy spoke up first.
Andy: Brooke, Clay so nice to see you guys
Brooke: nice to see you again too Uncle Andy, please come in
Andy and his family walked inside
Clay: let me take your coats
Andy: thank you Clay
At the point everybody else had walked into the living room but what nobody saw were the looks on Lucas' and Cooper's face when they realized who Andy's wife was
Brooke: let me introduce you to everybody, this is one of my best friends Peyton, her husband Jake and their daughter Jenny, this is another of my best friends Haley and her husband Nathan, this is my long time best friend Rachel and this is Cooper Roe but we all call him Uncle Cooper considering his is Rachel's, Nathan's and Lucas' uncle. I'm sure you already know Clay's girlfriend Quinn who is also Haley's sister and this is my fiancé Lucas Scott
Andy: wow you've got a big family; it's nice to meet all of you
Everybody: nice to meet you too
Andy: this is my wife Karen and our daughter Lily
Karen: nice to meet you all, thank you for inviting us to dinner
Brooke: it's our pleasure; dinner is ready so if you'll follow us to the dining room we can eat
Andy: it smells wonderful Brooke
Brooke: thank you but I can't take all the credit, Rachel and Uncle Cooper helped me
Karen: it still smells wonderful
Brooke: hopefully it tasted good too
With that everybody headed for the dinning room, while Brooke went to the kitchen followed by Lucas and Uncle Cooper. When it was just the three of them Lucas spoke up
Lucas: did you see what I saw Uncle Coop?
Cooper: I sure did, but it can't be
Lucas: it's hard to believe, but I'm 99% sure it's the same person
Cooper: only one way to find out
Brooke: what are you two talking about?
Lucas: your Uncle's wife is my mother
Cooper: and my sister
Brooke: that's not possible
Lucas: you're telling us
Cooper: I know my sister Brooke and that women is definitely her, there is no doubt about that
Brooke: but how? If she survived the accident then maybe Uncle Keith did too
Lucas: I'm not sure but I intend to find out
Cooper: well let's not do anything drastic there are children in the room
Brooke: what do you suggest then?
Cooper: just follow my lead
Lucas: okay
Brooke: okay
Brooke handed dishes to Lucas and Uncle Cooper to carry in and she followed with the pork tenderloins. Once everybody was seated and all the food was on the table Brooke said grace and let everybody dig in. Cooper decided to make conversation during dinner so he could figure out if it really was his sister.
Cooper: so Andy tell us about yourself
Andy: well I'm Brooke and Clay's uncle on their father's side, I was a professor for almost five years, then I met this beautiful woman next to me and about a year after we started dating we got married, then a year later we had Lily. Now I own my own security business and Karen owns her own café over on the west side
Cooper: wow, that's quite impressive
Brooke: very impressive, I can't believe it's been so long since I've seen you
Andy: I know, but we won't let that happen again
Brooke: no we won't, so Karen what did you do before meeting my Uncle?
Karen: not much really, I was in a bad car accident almost five years ago and according to the doctors I was lucky to survive but I lost part of my memories
Brooke: oh Karen, I'm so sorry, we don't have to talk about this if you don't want to
Karen: no its okay, my doctor encourages me to talk about it actually
Brooke: only if you're sure
Karen: I'm sure, so from what I was told my 1st husband and I were out for our anniversary I think and something happened and he lost control and we crashed. I was told Keith didn't make it and that I was lucky because I only had minor injuries besides the memory loss. Once I was discharged I decided to move to New York, I thought a new place might help but I haven't regained anything, then I met Andy and fell in love and had Lily. I couldn't ask for anything more but it would be nice to regain my memory.
Brooke: I'm so sorry Karen that must have been rough; can I ask you a question?
Karen: of course
Brooke: did you and your first husband have any children?
Karen: um….
Brooke: you don't have to answer if you don't want to
Karen: no it's okay, honestly I don't remember, I as told I had a son and a daughter but after everything the doctors tried I still couldn't remember so I just pushed it to the back of my mind. I thought it would be better for me and them especially if I didn't know who they were
Brooke: I can understand that to a point but don't you think your children would rather know your alive then think your dead
Andy: Brooke! Where is this coming from?
Brooke: I'm sorry Uncle Andy, but it's the truth
Karen: what do you mean Brooke?
Brooke: I mean that you did have children with your first husband and I know who they are
Karen: what are you talking about Brooke?
Brooke: I'm talking about my fiancé Lucas Scott and my best friend Rachel Roe being your son and daughter
Andy & Karen: What! Not possible
Rachel: seriously?
Brooke: I'm sorry to do this now but everybody needed to know before it was too late
Karen: that's not possible
Cooper: it ism I'm your brother and Lucas and Rachel are your children
Karen: then why do I not remember them?
Cooper: I honestly don't know, but we're going to find you the best doctor possible, I want my sister back
Andy: I'm not sure that's wise
Cooper: and why not?
Andy: because we've tried everything already no sense in putting her through more when its not gonna work
Cooper: how do you know it's not gonna work? And shouldn't it be Karen's decision?
Karen: please Andy, I want to try, I want to remember my children and brother
Andy: fine
Karen: thank you, let me know when and I'll be there
Cooper: I'll make some calls first thing tomorrow morning
Karen: perfect, thank you
Cooper: you're welcome
Brooke: how about some dessert?
Karen: that sounds like a wonderful idea
Brooke: okay then, I'll be right back
Lucas: let me help you Brooke
Brooke: well let's go broody
Brooke and Lucas started gathering plates from dinner and Rachel decided to help, then the three of them headed into the kitchen. Once in the kitchen Brooke was moving around getting plates and forks ready for dessert when Rachel spoke up
Rachel: I can't believe that women might be our mother
Lucas: there's no doubt about it Rach, she's our mother, I'm just sorry Keith didn't make it out alive
Rachel: yea me too, so what do we do now?
Lucas: we take it one day at a time, that's all we can do
Rachel: yea you're right, I love you little brother
Lucas: I love you too big sis
Brooke: I know this is a big shock to everyone but we can talk about it later, right now we need to serve dessert and enjoy the rest of our night
Lucas: you're right
Brooke: thank you, now Rach I thought Chase was coming tonight?
Rachel: turns out he had plans with his brother that he forgot to mention till this afternoon
Brooke: I'm sorry Rach
Rachel: me too, but its okay, I'll just drag him to meet Uncle Cooper tomorrow
Brooke: ha-ha poor Chase
Rachel: I know right
Lucas: okay ladies let's serve dessert
Brooke/Rachel: okay
Brooke, Rachel and Lucas grabbed everything they needed for dessert and headed back to the dining room. Once back in the dinning room plates and forks were handed out and dessert was passed around and everybody helped themselves to some of the cheese cake and triple chocolate cake. Dessert went over fantastically, with simple conversation and nobody brought up what happened earlier. Before long it was time for Andy, Karen and Lily to leave. Everybody got up from the table and headed to the door to say goodbye to Andy, Karen and Lily.
Andy: thank you for dinner Brooke, everything was delicious
Brooke: your very welcome, and thank you for coming tonight
Andy: it was our pleasure
Brooke: it was nice meeting you Karen and especially you Lily bug 'she said kneeling to Lily's eye level'
Karen: it was wonderful meeting all of you and I look forward to future get togethers
Cooper: I think that can be arranged, and I'll be talking to you in a few days
Karen: I look forward to it
Andy: well we should really be going, thank you again and take care
Brooke: your welcome, have a good night and drive safe
After hugs and goodbyes all around Andy ushered Karen and Lily out of the house to the car. Brooke closed the front door and turned to face everybody before speaking.
Brooke: that was interesting
Cooper: yes it was, my sister is alive
Lucas: I can't believe my mom is alive
Rachel: I can't believe this is the first time I've met her and she doesn't know who I am
Brooke: I'm so sorry this all happened
Cooper: it's not your fault Brookie, you didn't know
Brooke: it's all very confusing
Lucas: yes it is
Nathan: this may not be my place but did nobody else see Andy's reaction when you said you knew Karen or when Uncle Cooper offered to find the best doctor out there to help her
Clay: Nate's right, Uncle Andy looked very concerned with all the information tonight
Cooper: yea he certainly did, I wonder why
Brooke: I think we're all wondering what that was about and what really happened the night of the accident
Cooper: we'll get to the bottom of this I promise you that, but first I have to call Deb and d Dan and a friend of mine in California. So I'm gonna head to my room, don't worry guys, goodnight and I love all of you
Everyone: goodnight Uncle Coop, love you too
Cooper headed for the spare room to make his phone calls while Brooke headed to the kitchen the get beers for the guys and Rachel and a glass of wine for Quinn and some apple juice for Haley and herself, then she headed back to the living room to find everyone just sitting around starring into space.
Brooke: hey now, no mopping, tonight didn't go as planned but it was still a good night, now I've got beers for Lucas, Nate, Clay, Jake and Rachel, wine for Quinn and juice for Haley and I. we are going to get comfortable and put n a movie and relax, letting the events of tonight go to the back of our heads for right now.
Everyone silently agreed, so Brooke grabbed the remote and flipped through the channels to find a movie before hitting the on demand button and picking a funny family comedy and they settled into watch.
Meanwhile in the spare room
Cooper had just gotten off the phone with a shocked Deb and Dan who promised they would be in New York by end of day tomorrow to help Uncle Cooper figure things out. Cooper then dialled the number of his childhood friend out in California and it was answered on the second ring.
Female voice: Coop is that you?
Cooper: yea it's me, I know it's late but I need your help
Female voice: sure anything what can I do?
Cooper: I need all the information you can find on a one Andy Davis, he lives in New York, he's related to Richard Davis and the uncle of Brooke and Clay Davis. His wife's name is Karen and they have a two year old daughter named Lily.
Female voice: Coop what's this about?
Cooper: I'm 99% positive that his wife Karen is my sister who we thought died in that accident her and Keith were in almost 5 years ago, I also believe Andy is hiding something and I want to know what it is.
Female voice: I'll do the best I can but I can't promise anything you know that
Cooper: I know and I appreciate this you have no idea, I was also hopping you could dig up the files from the accident that Keith and Karen Scott were in, I want to know what I'm dealing with
Female voice: I'll do my best but that could be very tricky do you know where the accident happened?
Cooper: no but I can find out and get back to you by Saturday, I'm waiting for Deb and Dan to fly in from Tree Hill but they wont be in till tomorrow sometime
Female voice: okay let me know and we will go from there, for now I'll start digging into Andy Davis and get back to you when I have something
Cooper: okay thank you again, I really appreciate this you have no idea
Female voice: I think I do and you owe me Coop
Cooper: I know I do… oh and Lindsay I love you
Lindsay: I love you too Coop, stay safe and I'll talk to you in a couple of days
Cooper: you too, bye
Lindsay: bye
Cooper finished his conversation and decided he'd head back to the living room to watch some TV for a while only to find every available surface taken by the occupants of the house and the credits rolling on whatever movie they were watching. He laughed to himself and headed to the kitchen to get a beer and then went back to the spare bedroom to relax and go over the events of the night before falling asleep.

Did you like the twist at the end? I wanted to include Lindsay in this story and I wasn't sure how I was going to do that but then when I was typing the end of this chapter I was think on who I could use as Cooper's friend in California and I thought of Lindsay. Hopefully its not to out there and you all keep reading cause there are three more days to this surprise week, and you'll never know what I have in store unless you read and REVIEW.
