Christmas present to all who are still following :)
"That wasn't so bad." Prim remarked as she met up with Rue outside the Agricultural Sciences building the Monday of Homecomming week.
"My test was easy." Rue commented. "Of course, Jo said the intro to ag class is pretty easy anyway." The girls giggled as they walked toward the library. Loud music was blasting from The Plaza and crowds of students were gathered around different tables. "Hey guys! Pin the feather on the eagle! GO PANEM EAGLES!" Rue and Prim walked up to the table manned by Glimmer and Clove. A sign behind them proclaimed Tri-Delta Homecomming Challenge. "Ready?" Glimmer asked Rue as she handed Rue a red bandanna with the Panem Eagle mascot painted on it.
"When you are." Rue giggled as Prim dug her phone out of her pocket. "NO! Ok – fine, text it to me. Do NOT post it to Facebook!"
"Ok." Prim agreed.
"Girl, I know where you live –" Rue muttered as Glimmer tied the bandanna over her eyes.
"Ok, three spins should do it – one – two – three –" Glimmer and Clove chuckled as Rue groped around before pinning the balsa wood painted feather to the eye of the eagle painted on the large corkboard resting on the table.
"Right in the eye!" Clove cheered. "Ha!"
"I'll try." Prim said as Rue took off the blindfold.
"Do you have aim like your sister?" Clove asked interestedly as Glimmer blinfolded the younger Everdeen.
"No." Rue replied before Clove snorted down a laugh.
"Shut up." Prim muttered before handing Rue her phone. "No Facebook either." Glimmer spun her before she pinned the feather a good inch from the eagle.
"Told you. No aim." Rue smirked as Prim rolled her eyes.
"We're still doing rush if any girls on your floor are interested." Glimmer said gesturing to the sorority's phamplets on the table.
"Thanks." Rue took one before the girls continued to the student center. Several other student clubs were out offering Homecoming school spirit related activities to promote their clubs.
"Spirit cookie?" Peeta called from a table near the booth hosted by 90.5 KPNM, the student radio station. "Free food!" He called before several students came to his table where other students were setting out Baking Club brochures.
"Thanks. Mmm – buttercreame!" Prim muttered as she bit into her cookie.
"Student Union or dining hall?" Prim asked Rue as they nibbled on their cookies.
"Dining hall. I'm broke." Rue said. "I don't get paid at my research assistant job until Friday."
"What? You get paid?" Prim yelped as they walked to the nearest dining hall which was in one of the dorms right next to the academic buildings.
"Well – not officially, but the PI – Principal Investigator gives us a few bucks at the end of the week." Rue admitted. Prim grinned.
"Lucky. I need a job." Prim muttered as they got in the serving line. Lunch was spaghetti and meatballs or eggplant Parmesan. The girls smiled at Lavinia who was dishing up spaghetti noodles and sauce to the students.
"You work here too?" Prim asked surprised as they saw her at her during breakfast at her usual morning post swiping ID cards in the "Nerd Hall" dining hall.
"Yeah. I do shifts at three dining halls." Lavinia said. "How much spaghetti do you two want?"
"A lot." Prim giggled. After they were served, they wished Lavinia good luck on her exams before hitting the salad bar and beverage station. As they looked for a place to sit, they spotted Peeta refilling his mug at the latte station.
"Hey, Peeta." Prim said kindly seeing the tired look in the Junior's eyes.
"Hey, Prim." Peeta muttered filling his mug. "I'm on my third latte."
"How long have you been here?" Rue asked. "Can we join you?" Peeta nodded and the girls followed him to a table that could seat four people. Books were strewn about along with some notebooks and Peeta's laptop.
"I don't have class until one. I've been here since ten and the dining hall closes at two."
"Wow. So why do you study here?" Prim asked curiously. She figured the library would be a better place to study as it was quieter than the dining hall.
"Free coffee." Peeta said before devouring his two hamburgers, plate of fries, mashed potatoes, and plate of glazed carrots that he got on the other side of the dining hall. The two girls chatted among themselves before Peeta let out an almighty belch. "Ooooooh yeeeeeeaaah." He promptly blushed as Prim burst out laughing.
"Rory said – sometimes – when you were over at Kat and my place, he could hear you burp and he's two houses away –" Prim gasped in between giggles. A few students at another table began clapping.
"You are not telling anyone." Peeta groaned. "I'm so hungry. Coach is training us hard and we have our first around of exams this week. You too?" Prim and Rue nodded.
"Prim aced her bio one, I did alright on my Intro to Ag."
"Did you hear if Katniss did ok on any tests?" Prim asked curiously.
"She has her exams mid-week." Peeta answered before he began shoveling food into his mouth. That was the cue for the girls to chat among themselves as Peeta inhaled his food. "Is the spaghetti good? I just got food from the other side of the place."
"Yeah. It's filling though, and you just ate a ton." Rue pointed out as Prim snickered.
"Ok." Peeta got in Lavinia's serving line with his iPad cued to his notes for one of his classes. He sat back down as the girls finished their lunches. "You girls heading to class soon?"
"Yeah." Prim replied. "Oh, Kat said she already picked up tickets for all of us, so we'll see you at the game on Saturday!"
"Good luck with your tests. Oh, and with practice." Rue said grinning. "GO EAGLES!" The girls cheered for Peeta before leaving the dining hall. They only had a few more tests then they could check one-fourth of their first semester of college off their lists. And on Saturday, they would attend their first Homecoming game of college.
