You heard footsteps coming from the staircase. You noticed the shadows of your parents'.
"Is everything okay?" you heard your dad spoke in a soft tone. Your brothers quickly turned their heads facing your parents. You saw Tadashi smiled at them before saying, "We're okay." Your dad smiled back at him.
"But I heard Hiro screaming. Are you sure that you're okay?" your mom seemed a bit concerned. Hiro quickly shook his head, "No, no. We're okay."
"We were just playing, that's all. No need to worry, Mom." You gave your biggest smile at her and made her laugh. "Okay then." Your mom checked her watch and right then you knew that they are about to leave.
You felt your heart sunk. You don't want them to leave you here – especially with your two annoying brothers. Your hands rolled into a fist and you bit your lower lip. You can feel your heart pounding hardly against your chest. You were afraid to ask the question that was playing inside your head. This question always pops out when your parents have their work outside the city. But you found your courage to ask them.
"Do you really have to go?" your voice drawn your parents' attention. When they gave no response for the few first seconds, you felt regret asking them that same old question. You looked down at your bare feet. You heard a sound of a sigh came from one of your parents and you assumed that was from your dad.
"Yes, dear." Your mom gave you a hug and you hugged her back, not wanting to let go. Your mom pulled your hand away and wiped out your tears. You didn't realize there were tears on your cheeks. "Hey, it's gonna be alright okay, [Y/N]?"
Your father held your mom's right shoulder and he knelt right beside her. You saw your dad's serious face and you quickly turned your head to face the wall. Your dad hugged you tightly and tears come streaming down your face. It was a quick hug but it felt longer.
"Okay, Mommy and Daddy needs to go now. You don't want us to return home late do you?" You quickly shook your head and gave a fake smile that only lasts a few seconds on your face. "Promise me that you would come home by tomorrow."
Your dad chuckled while shaking his head. "I have a lot more work than usual. I can't be home by tomorrow." You nodded and you gave him a sad smile. "Don't worry." Your dad whispered to you.
Your dad stood up and went straight to your mom before going down the stairs. Your brothers followed them as you looked at the clock. It's not even 5 p.m. yet. You sighed and checked your watch. Just to be sure.
You turned around and saw the empty room stared back at you. They're already downstairs? Suddenly the sound of the bell from downstairs snaps you from your reverie.
You ran downstairs and straight to the door and suddenly bumped into someone hardly until you fell backwards. It was Aunt Cass. You saw her face reaction – shocked plus with fear. She quickly picked you up and rubbed your back.
"Are you okay? I am so sorry!"
You didn't say nor think at that moment. You just wanted to wave at your parents before they leave. You have no idea why you felt uneasy when your parents entered the car. You pushed such thoughts away.
"I'm fine, Aunt Cass." You gave her a quick smile and asked her to put you down. She gave you the warmest smile while she did as you asked.
You ran to the door and hoped that your parents are still there waiting for you to say goodbye or a wave or even just to see your face. As you went outside, you saw your two brothers, already waving at your parents. You ran further away from the cafe to get the better view of your parents. Once you saw them, you tiptoed while waving at them with a big smile on your face.
"Bye Mom! Bye Dad!" you and Hiro said the words in unison and you saw your father was focusing on reversing the vehicle and your mother gave you a flying kiss. You did the same to her.
"Tadashi! Take good care of them okay? You're a big boy now!" you saw Tadashi nodded and kept on waving until the vehicle is out of sight. You stood there for awhile as you were waiting for their return.
You felt a grasp on your shoulder. You looked up and saw Tadashi smiling at you. "Come on. Let's go inside." You pushed his hand away playfully and raced him to the cafe. While you were running, you looked back and saw Tadashi walking while chuckling. "Hey, race ya!"
"No, no. I'm too old for this." You stopped and put your hands on your hips. You waited for Tadashi to come over you to hear something he wanted to say. He put his hand on your shoulder and smiled at you. You noticed that it wasn't just a warm smile.
He quickly pushed you backwards and he ran to the cafe. You quickly chased him while screaming his name. Both of you were panting as you walk inside the cafe. You sat on the nearest chair and he sits next to you. "I win." He said while breathing heavily.
"That didn't count! You cheated!" you pushed Tadashi while he stuck his tongue out at you. You noticed Hiro was staring at both of you and you just ignored him.
"Okay. Fine." He raised his both hands as a surrender sign. "You win. Happy?"
You hummed and you put your index finger on your chin, thinking. You brought your nose up and shook your head. "Nope. Nope." You then smiled at him with an idea popped in your head. "If you want me to be happy, you have to buy me a bag of jelly beans!"
"Why not gummy bears?" finally Hiro let out some words. He got closer to you and you pulled your seat a bit further from him. You knew Hiro when it comes to candy and sweets. He'll get all crazy. He looked at Tadashi and went to him. "Can you buy me some gummy bears too?"
"Ah, geez Hiro. 'Some' isn't enough for you, I know. Just say that you want the whole gummy bears on earth." You tapped you foot and crossed your arms. You knew Hiro to well. He will ask for more if he gets some of it. He will never stop till he gets more. The only way to stop him is to deal with his sobs and cries for hours.
"If I asked for that, I'll be fat – just like you!" Hiro teased and you show no reaction. You just gave him a serious look and this stopped him from looking at you.
"Not funny." You looked away and heard Tadashi chuckled.
"I'll buy you gummy bears and those jelly beans too.. If.." he raised his index finger and then put it down. "If you guys will come with me to the candy store."
"Why wouldn't we? The candy store here is so full of sweets and I love to see it!" you put your hands on your chest and imagining all the candy in the store.
"Just promise me one thing.." Tadashi crossed his arms and looked at you with his serious face. "Don't ask anything else when we got there."
Both you and Hiro nodded and crossed your hearts. "We promise!"
