"The police?", your eyes widen in shock. "Why, Aunt Cass?"
You saw her shook her head slightly. She let out a sigh. "It's... nothing." She gave you a smile.
"Oh, what time is it? It's getting late. You should be in bed." You stayed quiet. You knew that she is hiding something but you gave her time to clear her mind. She went over to Hiro and picked him up.
"Tadashi, dear", Tadashi looked up to her. "Turn off the TV, please. It's getting late." Tadashi did as told and came to you.
"Come on. Let's go upstairs." You nodded.
"Aunt Cass...", you said as she tuck you to bed.
"Yes, dear?", she patted you on the head before she give you a kiss on your forehead.
You planned not to ask but curiosity takes the best of you. Especially when you saw her in tears on her knees. She was always the happy-go-lucky person.
"Why did the police called?", you saw her stare into oblivion. She had no words to say. You saw her tears pooling in her eyes and she quickly wiped it off.
"Oh, just some little tax that I forgot", she smiled. "Now, go to sleep."
"But why did you cried, Aunt Cass?", you noticed her eyes widen in shock. She then looked away and stood from the bed. "Aunt Cass?" you called as she opened the door. She stopped but didn't turn her head to face you.
"Just go to sleep, [Y/N]." she closed the door shut and the nightlight in your room gleamed through the darkness. You still wondered about the news your aunt received.
You got out of bed to go to Tadashi's room – which was upstairs. You took a step at a time slowly and quietly, trying to not make a sound that will alarm your aunt. As you reached the stairs, you can hear a loud snore came from upstairs. And you knew it was Hiro's. He had the loudest snore ever in your family. You walked up the stairs cautiously and quickly upstairs.
"Tadashi." You called out his name several times and he finally woke up.
"Hey, it's past your bedtime." He said while rubbing his eyes. You let out a sigh and sat in front of him.
"Sorry but I can't sleep thinking about this." You said as you play with your fingers.
"Think about what?" Tadashi yawned and he started to get sleepy. You shook his body to make him stay awake. "What?"
"Look, you saw Aunt Cass cried, right?"
"Yeah? Why?", he replied while yawning.
"Well, I think there's something very wrong here. I mean, did you ever see her cry before?" You started to mumble and this make Tadashi sighed.
"Well, did you ever see your teacher cry before?" he said while palming his face. You stared at him.
"Tadashi!", he shushed you. "Tadashi, I'm serious here." You said with a quieter tone.
"Look, all I'm saying is that we don't always around her so we never actually see her crying or laughing wildly or getting sick so bad. You know what I'm saying?" you shrugged. "The thing is that we never see her cry just because we were not there, okay? Maybe she just received news that's not that bad."
"But Tadashi. She said that the police called. How come that's not a problem?"
"Police? The police called her? Did she say anything else?" he leaned closer to hear you more clearly.
"No. She kinda tried to stay away from the topic when I asked her." You both stayed silent for a couple of minutes. Then Tadashi pulled his blanket up to his face and told you to get some rest.
You walked into your room and sat on the bed. You can't sleep. But after some minutes, you forced yourself to sleep by resting your head on the pillow. By the next time you knew it, it's already morning.
You washed your face and brushed your teeth then you headed for the dining area. It was quiet that morning. Very quiet. You wondered off to downstairs just to see an empty café. Then, you heard footsteps from the stairs.
"Wow, you're up early." Tadashi chuckled and went to the dining table to see some delicious pancakes and some donuts. He also found a note saying :
Breakfast is ready. If you want some desserts, they're in the fridge.
-Aunt Cass
"Where's Aunt Cass?", you asked and only received an answer with just a shrug from Tadashi.
"Maybe she needs to head out to do some errands. Don't worry much, okay? She cooked breakfast already, so let's just have breakfast." He pulled a chair to sit on and start to put some food on his plate.
Few hours passed and Aunt Cass is still not home. You and your brothers are worried.
"Tadashi, when is Aunt Cass gonna be home?", Tadashi just shrugged. "Oh, don't worry, Hiro. She might have a lot of things to do."
"But she work here, right? Why would she be doing work somewhere else?" Tadashi just looked at him. "I don't know."
"Maybe it was about the call last night!", you stood. "She said the police called. Maybe she went to the police station." You lift your eyebrows, asking for a response. "Maybe we could go look for her there! It's not far."
"No, no. We have to wait for her here. She'll be worried if she finds out that we're not home." Tadashi shook his head.
"But.. it's not that- "
"[Y/N], if I say no, then it's a no." He glared at you. You looked down to your feet and then sat. "Fine."
"What did the police say?" Hiro got closer to you. "I don't know."
There was a silence. You can only hear the clock ticking.
"I had a bad dream last night." Hiro cracked the silence. He look at you and then to Tadashi.
"What is it, Hiro?", Tadashi asked.
"Well, I can't remember all of it but the only I do remember is that…" he stopped. Maybe trying to remember what was in his dream.
"What? What is it? Oh, Hiro could you please stop making me wait? I hate waiting games, you know?", you sighed.
"Okay, okay. I only remember me in the back seat of a car. And I saw flames coming from the engine so I pulled myself out. I found out that I was in the middle of nowhere."
You saw his eyes started to tear. He sniffed. "Hiro, what's wrong?", Tadashi asked in concern.
"I saw… I…", he cried and then hugged Tadashi. You looked at Tadashi and he raised his shoulders.
"Mom… and dad…"
And then suddenly you heard the doorbell chimed.
