Chapter 24: The Bet
Paige's POV-
It was gym class and we were playing volleyball. I was team captain for my team and Spencer was the captain of the other team.
Spencer was really competitive, of course so am I. When we got divided into our teams. Spencer walked up to me and said. "This time I'll win." apparently she still hadn't gotten over that I had beaten her at bowling last week.
"Oh yeah you want to make a bet on it Hastings?" I said to her showing that I'm not backing down.
"If you lose you'll have to help me finding clues to whoever Batgirl is tonight." Spencer said, talk about stupid choice.
"Fine and if you lose you'll have to come to school tomorrow in some of Hanna's clothes." I said knowing that Spenser hated to wear those sorts of clothes. While Hanna wore them on a daily basis.
We both shaked on it, before we walked to our teams.
Spencer was really playing aggressively, she really didn't want to lose but I never want to give up. The first ball Spencer served almost hit me in my face if I hadn't dodged it in the last second.
"What's the matter McCullers? Are you a bit slow today?" Spencer said apparently she wanted to win this, but I wasn't going to give up that easily, if Spencer wanted to beat me she had to fight for it.
I served the ball and Spencer returned it, but this time I jumped up and smashed it so it landed behind Spencer. "That's one point each Hastings" I said back and Spencer growled as she grabbed the ball.
We continued to play and after a while it was like we had forgotten that we weren't the only once on the team. Since we both focused on each other waiting for the other one to make a mistake that we could take advantage of.
The game had gone on for almost an hour and we were tied as the gym teacher walked up to us and said the team who gets the last point wins.
Spencer served it and I returned it. Spencer smashed but I was ready one on my team send the ball up in the air and I returned it to her. So it went on back and forward until the coach told us to stop since we had played this last game for fifteen minutes.
We both got stunned, fifteen minutes we thought that it had gone two minutes, three tops.
"So who won?" We both asked.
The coach said "According to the volleyball rules it's the one that serves wins if the game has to break during a tie." The coach says and we both head to the locker rooms.
I undress and enter the shower. When I enter the shower I notice how exhausted I am from the volleyball match, the hot water felt great after my game with Spencer that really had been more challenging than I thought it would get. I lean my head back and closed my eyes enjoying how the water felt against my body.
"So McCullers do you want me to pick you up tonight or will you come to my place?" I heard Spence's voices behind me.
I opened my eyes and looked towards Spencer and said. "The class got cancelled you didn't won."
"Oh yes I did McCullers. I said if you lose with you did since that rule practically meant that you forfeited, so you lost." Spencer said.
"Fine. You can pick me up at 7:00 pm and then we can look for clues." I said since I knew that I couldn't talk my way out of this since Spencer was on the debate team, it was like she was on every team in the school.
"Great I'll bring the coffee." Spencer says and almost trips on the wet floor, but she regained her balance very quickly and exited her shower.
So tonight I'll be on a stakeout with Spencer where I'm basically searching for clues left by myself... Wait a minute I can plan one of my suits that is the wrong size and then when Spencer finds it. She'll look for someone that fits that suite and then my secret will be safe, I thought as I relaxed in the shower.
When I was done I dried myself and got dressed. Once I exited the locker room Emily walked up to me.
"Hi Paige, I just heard about your bet with Spencer. Tough break she'll probably have up searching all night after traces of yourself." She said.
"Don't worry Em, I have a plan that will make sure she'll be busy trying to find girls that doesn't match the description of Batgirl." I said and Emily nodded knowing that I had a plan in motions.
"And there is one thing I want to talk to you about." I said as I took a step back so I ended up behind Emily.
I wrapped my arms around her and rested my head on her shoulder.
"There is this dance in two months." I said referring to the school annual winter dance that apparently was a very formal event. "And I'd like to go with the hottest girl in the school." I said leaning towards her ear. "Emily Fields will you be my date for that dance?" I say and spin Emily around so we are now standing front to front and she looks into my eyes and I can see that she is almost crying.
"Yes Paige of course I'll go with you." She say and we crashed our lips together not caring that we were in the school hallways, we were in our own world where there was just the two of us.
"You guys, People are staring." We heard someone say but we didn't care we just kept pressing our lips together until we felt that it was enough. I loved Emily and I wasn't afraid to let everyone know that and she felt the same way about me.
We looked to where the sound come from and we saw Hanna, Toby and Caleb looking at us. "So what reason did you guys have, for kissing like that?" Hanna asked as she gave both of us a questioning stare.
"Well Hanna, Paige just asked me to the annual winter dance." Emily said and Hanna ran up and hugged us both tightly.
"OH MY GOD THAT'S SO INCREDIBLE!" She shouted as she hugged us.
She let go of us and said. "You'll need dresses and I'm great at that. I can take you both shopping separate days." Great now she is planning our lives.
"Great job Paige." Caleb said as he gave me a man hug.
Then Toby said "Nice going Paige." as he gave me a handshake. Clearly I was accepted by Emily's friends.
We walked outside the school to tell Spencer and Aria the good news we saw that it was a crowd that was gathered in a circle around something. Everyone was shouting "FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!" So we knew that whatever was happening wasn't good.
As we walked towards the racket we saw that the tow that was fighting was Aria and Mona. Mona was lying on the ground and Aria was sitting on her and threw punches towards her face.
"You stay away from my brother!" Aria yelled furiously and I could see that there was a fire in her eyes.
Suddenly Mona grabbed Aria by her hair and pulled her down to the ground. Mona lets out a crazy scream as she started to kick Aria making sure she wasn't going to get back up.
"ENOUGH! STOP IT! BREAK IT UP BOTH OF YOU!" We heard someone shout. When we all turned our heads we saw that it was Mr. Fitz.
He walked up to them and they both and Mona backed away. He looked at Aria with concern in his eyes. Aria had a cut above her right eye and she was bleeding from her nose. Ezra helped her up and said. "I'll take you to the school nurse."
After that we all went to the school nurse's office and waited outside since we couldn't just walk in and disturb her.
When Aria walked out of the nurse's office. She had some stitched over her right eye and she was walking slower so it was obvious that she was in a lot of pain.
"Hey guys, thank you for waiting." Aria said looking expressionless.
"Aria, why did Mona fight you?" Emily asked sounding concerned.
Aria took a deep breath and said. "I told her to stay away from Mike, but she said that he could date whomever he wants to date. So I told her to back off. Then she said he was a great kisser and I just snapped and punched her." We all looked shocked, Aria wasn't the one that started fights so to hear her say that she threw the first punch was really not what any one of us expected.
After that we gave Aria some space since she clearly didn't want to talk about it anymore, so we wouldn't push her.
Later at my mansion
The rest of the day had gone by very slowly. I had told Caleb that the night was off and now I had to find the bat suit that was the furthest away from my size.
I walked into the bat cave and started searching through my rejected sites trying to find one that was perfect to put Spencer on a fake track.
After a while I found the perfect suit, it was too short in length and the cup size was completely wrong Spencer would definitely start looking for a girl with those measures when I was done with the suit.
Since I'd never used it before. It looked new so I had to change that. I took on a pair of glove to make sure I wouldn't leave any fingerprints. I started to kick the suite leaving some marks from my boots. Then I started to cut it with a pocket knife leaving deep cuts all over the site and to top it off I ran over it with my stealth bike so now it looked like that suit had been in some real combat.
Once I was done with that I put on a cape and a belt that had gotten defected during one of my missions on the suit and now I just had to hide it somewhere safe until Spencer and I started our search and just to be on the safe side I added a little something in the belt to make sure that Spencer would narrow down her search wrong.
Later that night
I had hidden the bat suit in the park and now I waited for Spencer to come over and I could just get this over with.
I heard some knocking at my door, I opened the door and it was Spencer.
We walked into her car and she started driving.
"So where are we headed?" I asked.
"To the church, I think we can find something there." Spencer said as she started to drive.
We had driven around town for hours and Spencer still hadn't given up. She even looked in places where I knew Batgirl hadn't been, but I couldn't tell her that without revealing my secret.
When we finally had reached the park after what felt like an eternity I suggested that we should spread out to cover more ground and Spencer agreed. I had purposely pointed her towards where I had hidden the suit so it didn't take long for Spencer to find it.
"Paige. I've found something over here." She said and I ran over to her and that's where I pretend to be surprised when I saw my fake bat suit.
Spencer moved her hands onto it. "Yes it's the real deal." She said smiling. She holds up the suite smiling at her friend. "She is smaller than I thought, no wonder all my suspects were dead ends." That sentence made me wonder how many suspects she had.
Then she mover her hands inside the suite and after a while she said. "She must have a slim body and she must be an a cup." Spencer said. It was creepy that she could tell that just by touching it.
Then she started digging into the belts pockets and pulled out my little something. "And she dyes her hair auburn, clever Batgirl." She said as she threw the suit over her shoulder.
"You can go home now Paige I'll check this thing for more clues and I'll tell you what I can find in the morning. She said and ran to her car leaving me in the park so I had to walk all the way home.
The next morning
I woke up and started to make myself some coffee to start the day after having to walk home after Spencer had ditched me in the park. Oh well at least now I know that my secret is safe.
Once I was drinking my coffee Spencer walked into the front door.
"Ever heard of knocking?" I said sipping on my coffee.
"Well I know who Batgirl is now." Spencer said and I just raised my cup.
"It's funny, I never thought it was you." Once Spencer said that I chocked on my coffee.
"What do you mean?" I said pretending to think that I had no idea what Spencer was talking about.
"Well when I brought the suit home I found this inside it." Spencer said and held up a journal that I had gotten from Emily. I hadn't written any of my secrets in it just my dreams for the future and some of my tech upgrades, so that was enough proof for Spencer that I was Batgirl.
"So what are you going to do now?" I asked worried, looking at Spencer who looked conflicted.
"Nothing." Spencer said and handed me my journal.
"What?" I said as I looked confused at Spencer.
"If I reveal this secret it will be the end of this town's hope of getting rid of A and ratting you out would be an insanely cruel thing to do to Emily." Spencer said and stared to walk away.
As she walked, I realized that me and Caleb had talked about getting someone to stay in the bat cave and give us information about our missions and analyze chemical samples, me and Caleb had gathered. Spencer was perfect for that job so I had to ask her to help us.
"Wait" I said and Spencer turned to me. "You want to help me stopping A?" I asked and Spencer nodded and said. "What do you got for me, Batgirl?"
