Chapter 35: Public Enemy Number One

Paige's Pov-

It had been two days since Aria had turned evil and it had hit everyone really hard. Caleb was at the hospital with a broken arm and some broken ribs so he wouldn't be able to help me on my late night missions, the risks are just too much.

Spencer had chosen to shut everything out, she just focused on upgrading my equipment and whenever anyone mentioned Aria she would just pretend like she didn't hear it.

Hanna was spending time in the mall trying to hide her pain by shopping.

Emily didn't try to hide how she felt she would cry very often and I was always there for her to offer my comfort.

But Mr. Fitz was most hurt of all, He was searching for answers at the bottom at a beer glass every night. Some days in school he would show up drunk or not at all.

I had a hard time believing that Aria would have turned on us like that, I knew that it was A controlling her somehow but I didn't know how. It must have happened sometime after she had gotten furious and left after she found out that I didn't know who A was. She must have gotten kidnapped when she was heading home and then A had turned Aria into that thing she had become.

I was blaming myself for what had happened to Aria, but I didn't let it show. Right now I had to be strong for everyone else, I had to be better than A in order to save Aria from A.

I went out to meet Emily at her house, she had the biggest heart of anyone I ever had met, which made it that much harder to see her heartbroken, but I had to be strong for everyone especially for Emily.

It was a cloudy day, it was so cloudy that no one could tell that the sun was up, it also seemed like it was going to rain any second so I was wearing a black raincoat.

As I walked to her house I stopped by a flower shop and bought a big bouquet of red roses. I knew those were her favorites.

When I was halfway to Emily's house it started to rain. I reached for the hood of my raincoat when I suddenly remembered that it had gotten torn off by accident when I was heading home from school once.

My hair got drenched as I walked down the street. Only five more blocks until I was there. Now the rain was pouring like crazy and some aggressive drops of rain hit my face so hard that it hurt a bit.

"Oh well, now I don't have to worry about watering these" I said to myself as I looked at the flowers, despite the hard rain they held, talk about real quality roses.

I kept walking until I finally had reached Emily's home, I knocked at the door and it took a while before Emily opened it.

"Hi Paige, whoa was your shower broken?" Emily says as she notices my drenched hair.

"No I just thought that you'd like it." I said jokingly making Emily smiles for a short moment.

"You can come in Paige I can give you a towel." Emily said and I entered.

I could see that Emily had cried earlier, it was obvious that it was because of Aria.

"Em, come here." I said and held my arms wide open to give her a hug.

"No! Paige I don't want to hug you, you're all wet." Emily said as took a few quick steps back to avoid my arms.

"Come on Em you know you want to." I said and walked towards her.

"Noooo!" Emily yells as she starts to run and as I chase after her I can hear that she is laughing.

After I case her through almost every room in the house she locks herself into her room, I stand outside and waits for her to open the door.

"Em babe, can you open this door?" I ask.

"No you're all wet and I'm wearing my favorite shirt." Emily says still laughing.

"Hey Em." I say to see if she is still listening.

"What is it now Paige?" She says still behind the locked door.

"Do you want to build a snowman? Come on, let's go and play I never see you anymore, come out the door it's like you've gone away" I sing and try to impersonate Anna from the Disney movie frozen.

"Are you seriously comparing me with Elsa from Frozen?" Emily says trying to hide that she is still laughing.

I remove my soaked rain coat and hangs it on a coat rack then I walk back to Emily's room and as I try to open the door I feel that it's still locked.

I start to sing again "Do you want to build a snowman? Or ride our bike around the hall? I think some company is overdue I've started talking to the pictures on the walls." I sing until I can't keep myself from laughing.

"Emily I've hanged up my coat now you can unlock the door now or I'll just climb through the window like I've done before." I say and I hear the door unlocks, but as Emily opens she throws a towel at me that lands on my face.

I reach for it, but I feel Emily's hands as she puts some pressure on the towel and she moves the towel over my head.

"Your hair is still wet." Emily says as she continues to dry my hair with the towel.

"Stop moving your head it makes it harder to dry your hair" Emily says as I try to get out of the towel.

"There, all done." Emily says as she removes the towel from me and pulls me in for a tight hug.

"I really appreciate that you're here Paige, you sure know what to do to make me feel much better, even when I'm at my worse." Emily said.

"Anytime." I answered and I looked deep into her brown eyes.

"I should probably tell you something." Emily said.

"What is it Em?" I asked.

"Your hair is a mess Paige." Emily said and I walked to the mirror and saw that my hair was pointing at a lot of directions, it looked like I had gotten an electric shock.

"Emily come here you!" I yelled and chased her around her room and once I caught her I wrestled her to the floor pinned down her arms and tickled her.

We spent the entire day together, but I knew that I couldn't stay with her, tonight I needed to get some answers as Batgirl.

I said my goodbyes and Emily gave me a quick kiss before I left. I wanted to save Aria from whatever A had done to her but I just didn't knew how.

I got back to my mansion and changed into my bat suit, it was dark so now the time was up for A's henchmen because once the night had fallen I was Batgirl and the rules had changed. During the days they could do a lot of things and the cops were the only once that could stop then, but during the nights I was Batgirl and I could stop them, since they feared Batgirl.

I exited the bat cave and it didn't take too long to find a group of A's henchmen, there were three guys and from the looks of it they were rookies so I could use the warm up.

I ran up to them and I smashed the first two guys heads together so they got knocked out, then I grabbed the third one by his shirt collar, just as I was about to punch him he removed his mask and said. "Wait I'm Ezra Fitz partner, I'm on your side."

I let go of him and he adjusted his shirt collar. "My name is Jason and I know how A is controlling the girl who took out your partner a few nights ago."

"How can I break A's control over her?" I asked.

"A has a machine that sends out signals to a chip planted into Aria Montgomery's brain and you can't remove her chip without killing her, but if you can destroy A's device then the control will disappear and Aria will be safe from A's control." Jason said.

"Were is that machine?" I asked.

"It's located somewhere at the broadcast tower. I have tried to go there myself to shut it off but A is too paranoid to let anyone near that thing." Jason said.

"Ok prepare the C.I.A once that machine is destroyed A will be vulnerable enough to get captured." I said as headed towards the broadcast tower.

Once I had reached the building I got a call from my Comm link.

"Batgirl why didn't you tell me you were going to free Aria? You know that I could help." Oracle said over the Comm link.

"I didn't know what I was going to find out." I said back.

"Just once can you tell me what's going on instead of letting me hear you say it over the Comm link, just once?" Oracle said annoyed.

"Calm down Oracle, I'm on my way to the broadcast tower and then Aria will be back to normal." I said and after that Oracle just mumble something sounding very annoyed.

Once I had arrived Oracle contacted me again.

"Ok Batgirl, there is a broadcast signal coming from under the tower but I'm also picking up some radio interference so once you're inside I'll lose contact and I won't be able to talk to you." Oracle said.

"Ok, then the machine must be well guarded, better be careful once I'm inside." I said as I walked closer to the broadcast tower, the statistics were getting stronger the closer I got to the tower.

I see four men dressed as security guards around something that just had to be the machine that A was using to control Aria.

I walked up to the security guards that must be A's henchmen dressed up as security guards so people wouldn't think something bad was going on.

I attacked the first one with a right hook that may have broken his nose, he fell to the ground with his hands covering his bleeding nose.

The other three looked shocked at me, like they didn't expect me to be there. I jumped to another one of the guards, I grabbed his right arm and kicked his elbow. He screamed from the pain and I kicked him in his head so he fell to the ground unconscious.

One of the last two guards grabbed his Comm radio to call A, but I threw a bat rang that destroyed the radio.

He looked at me in fear as I walked up to him and kneed him in his guts, followed by an elbow to the back of his head then he was unconscious.

The last one tried to escape, but I couldn't let him warn A so I fired my grapple hook around his ankles, he fell to the floor and screamed in panic as I walked up to him, I kicked him in the head with a lot of power that made him unconscious.

I turned to the machine and covered it with my explosive gel before I got to a safe distance and detonated it ready to set Aria free from A's control.

Once I detonated the explosive gel I saw the machine go up in a big explosion.

As I was about to call Oracle to tell her that the machine that was controlling Aria was destroyed I heard someone clapping sarcastically.

I turned around and saw that it was Jason.

"Great job Bats, you just saved A a lot of problems with controlling the towns power supply." He said as I noticed that all lights over the town went out. I had been tricked into helping A take over the town.

"Jason!" I shouted as I walked towards him, as I was about to hit him something grabbed my arm and threw me to the ground.

I got back up and saw Aria standing right in front of me looking like a dog ready to attack.

Aria charged me and I just blocked a right hook followed by a left hook. I head-butted her to gain some distance for this fight.

Aria walked in circles around me and I remained focused on her so she wouldn't surprise me.

Aria suddenly ran towards me again, she threw punch after punch at me that I blocked as I walked backwards until my back hit a wall, then she hit my right side with one of her fists followed by a powerful kick to my left shoulder before she slammed me to the ground.

For being short Aria sure was powerful I thought as I got back up, a bit dizzy from when she had slammed me onto the ground.

She ran towards me again and threw a left hook that I just dodged she brought up her right leg for another kick to my ribs, but I grabbed her ankle and swung her away from me, she landed on her stomach but she almost flew back up to her feet instantly.

I activated my power gloves so if I would hit her it could give me some advantage in this fight.

We both charged towards each other, I threw a right hook at her that she dodged, she tried to kick me but I blocked her foot with my right forearm, she grabbed a knife with her right hand and was about to cut my face, but I was just a heartbeat quicker than her, I just punched her in the stomach with my left fist. The impact from my power glove made her fly into the brick wall behind her and then she hit the ground.

I walked up towards her to make sure that I hadn't killed her. Once I was three steps away from her she opened her eyes and jumped back up, she growled as her eyes locked on to me.

She furiously ran towards me and I jumped over her as she attempted to hit me with a left hook.

"Aria, please listen this isn't you, you're being controlled by A!" I yelled in an attempt to reach out to her, but she just shouted again and throw her knife towards me. I dodge it in the last second, but when I was focused on the knife Aria had ran up in front of me and before I had time to dodge she hit me with a powerful right hand.

I didn't fall to the ground this time, instead I took a few dizzy steps before I regained my focus to dodge one of her kicks.

"Aria listen you're letting A control you, fight it!" I yelled as I blocked a few of Aria's punches.

Aria jumped into the air to kick me in the head, but I blocked it by grabbing her right foot "I don't want to hurt you!" I yelled as Aria growled at me as she glared with fury in her eyes.

"I'm sorry Aria." I said then I spun Aria around and so I was standing behind her then I put my arm around her throat staring to choke her.

She was struggling as I tighten my grip to make sure that she wouldn't be able to fight back, she was panicking from the lack of air and slowly she passed out from the lack of oxygen.

After a few minutes she was completely unconscious, but not dead. I looked down on her as she was lying there breathing slowly.

"I will never give up Aria, I will save you." I said as I returned to the bat cave.

"Paige what have you done!" Spencer yelled as I was in the bat cave.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"You destroyed the town's power supply. Now there is no electricity to anything in the entire Rosewood." Spencer said.

"I have a backup generator under the house it should kick in anytime soon." I said and then the light was turned on.

"This is serious Paige, without power there will be riots." Spenser said and I detected some panic in her voice.

Then suddenly the TV got turned on and it was a news report that showed me when I was beating up the security guards and then blew up the machine that provided the towns' electricity. Then a news reporter declared me a worse villain than A making me Rosewoods public enemy number one.

"A ticked me into doing it." I said to Spencer "I thought that I was saving Aria." I continued.

"What will you do now?" Spencer asked and right before I had anytime to answer the TV showed A sitting on a chair, she was wearing a black hoodie and a mask.

"For those of you who don't know me I'm A, the one in charge of this town. As you could see on the news my partner Batgirl has now destroyed the device that gives you your power and now it's under my control so I am the town's power provider and I owe it all to my partner Batgirl..."

I smashed the TV before A could finish that sentence.

I glared at the broken TV and said "A is fucking dead."
