Chapter 41: It's Cool
A/N: Thank you Me A Genious for the helpful suggestions
Paige's Pov-
I was in the bat cave where Spencer was doing some tests on Ezra to make sure that the super power he had wouldn't be fatal to his health.
"It doesn't seem that there is anything wrong with his brain and his organs seems to work fine." Spencer said.
"Ok, so I don't have to worry about getting a disease?" Ezra said.
"No, if it was something dangerous with whatever you took it would have shown that by now." Spencer said.
"It's so awesome." Caleb said. "I want to have super powers like fire laser from my eyes, no acid breath, no shooting fire from my hands, no..."
"Caleb, you don't need powers to become a hero." I said.
"Yeah I guess you're... Now I know being able to freeze everything and create snow and ice, that would be so cool." Caleb said ignoring me.
"You mean like Elsa from Frozen?" Spencer sad mockingly.
"No, Like Frozone from the Incredibles, he's way more badass." Caleb said.
"As if." Ezra said.
"What Elsa is a queen who can't control her powers while Frozone is a crime fighter, he is more badass." Caleb said.
I left them to argue about their movie idols since I knew that A was out there somewhere and I was going to stop her someday.
I went upstairs where Emily was standing, she was holding a pair of coffee cups and handed me one.
"So how is our quick teacher?" Emily asked as I sipped my coffee.
"His organs are fine and he doesn't seem to have problems controlling his powers, but he did seem inpatient." I answered and Emily giggled.
"I... I think... I think he should... should probably avoid... energy drinks now." Emily shouted between her laughs and then I couldn't stop laughing.
"Yes, because giving the fast guy an energy boost would be a bad idea." We both heard someone say and when we turned around we saw that Ezra was standing there.
The way he looked at us made it hard to tell if he was mad or if he was just annoyed by the lame jokes.
"Here I made you some coffee to." Emily said and handed Ezra a cup.
"If you make a decaf joke I'll give you both F's." Ezra said as he started to drink his coffee.
After everyone but Emily had left I went back to the bat cave and printed a map over the city and marked out the areas where A had attacked.
"Where is the next area you'll strike?" I asked as I looked for a pattern of the map.
"Do you think you'll find out where A is?" I heard Emily's voice.
"I really hope so." I answered.
"Paige, I know that you want to stop A, but please don't let this take over your life." Emily said.
"I understand that you're worried but I'll never let that happen." I answered.
Emily smiled and kissed me softly.
"I love you." I said.
"Paige I..." Suddenly a crash was heard from upstairs.
"Stay down here Em, I'll see what's going on." I said and Emily nodded.
I went upstairs to find out what was going on. After I had checked the kitchen I remembered that I wasn't wearing my suit I was just Paige McCullers. Dammit I should have put it on before I went upstairs.
I kept searching and when I reached the living room I saw that it was a burglar in the room.
It was just a burglar, I never thought something like that would happen.
I was about to sneak up behind him when I remembered that I couldn't do that, the only reason that Batgirl got away with fighting villains was because no one knew that I was Batgirl and if I'd attack this burglar he'd press charges to the police and I really don't have time for that or worse he'd find Emily, When that thought crossed my mind I didn't care what he would do to me and instead I was more worried off what he'd do to Emily.
I sneaked out of the living room and grabbed a canister off knock out gas that I had hidden inside a vase in case I'd need something quickly.
I sneaked back and saw the burglar, he was still standing with his back turned to me.
I took a slow deep breath and throw the canister, as it hit the ground I closed the door and locked it to make sure the burglar hasn't going to get out.
It didn't take long until I heard a thud hitting the floor, that's when I knew the burglar got knocked out from the gas.
I walked back to the bat cave where Emily was and she walked up to me and asked. "What was that?"
"It was a burglar." I answered.
"What are you going to do now?" Emily asked.
"I'll put on my bat suite and then I'll question him, when he wakes up." I said.
"You fought him?" Emily asked.
"No I just used some knock out gas he didn't even see me." I said as I put my suit on.
"I'll be right back." I said as I went back upstairs.
When the gas had cleared I walked into the room, the burglar was unconscious on the floor. I drag his body out of my house and when he was on my lawn he started to show signs of waking up I dropped him and waited for him to wake up.
"Where am I?" The burglar said as he slowly opened his eyes.
"You're going to answer some questions." I said.
"Holy shit, you're Batgirl." The burglar said as he saw me in my suit.
"Why where you in that house?" I asked.
"It was a mansion I... I thought I could find some valuable stuffs to steal." The burglar said.
"Who do you work for?" I asked.
"No one I'm just a simple burglar." The man said and I could tell by the look in his eyes that he was too startled to lie.
I grabbed him by his shirt and glared into his eyes. "Leave." I said and as soon as I let him go he ran as fast as he could.
I returned to the mansion where I saw Emily waiting for me.
"Hello there, Batgirl." Emily said.
"Is something wrong?" I asked.
"It's just that, you dressed up to Batgirl just for one burglar I'm starting to think that you're a bit too obsessed with being Batgirl." Emily said sounding concerned.
"I had a burglar here if I'd attack him he'd know that I wasn't an ordinary girl and then A might add one and one together and find out that I'm Batgirl." I answered.
"You could just have dialed 911 like any other person would have done." Emily said sounding frustrated.
"I panicked okay, I'm used to fight guys like him." I said trying to stay calm.
"Let's just forget this." Emily said and started to walk.
"Emily please..." I said and reached for her.
"DON'T!" Emily yelled at me and I backed off.
As she walked out the door it felt like I was going to throw up, I couldn't believe what had just happened Emily was mad at me when all I did was protecting her.
I grabbed my cell phone and dialed her number. I only reached her voicemail.
"Emily I'm sorry for what I did I wasn't thinking... I'm sorry, I don't know what else to say I'm so sorry. Emily please call me. I love you..."
Emily's Pov-
Once I got home I went to my room and checked my phone, I saw that I had a voice mail from Paige, I wasn't sure if I should read it no not since I didn't wanted to her anything from Paige for now.
I just lied back on my bed and tried to fall asleep, I never liked to fight with Paige but she sometimes did things without thinking about the consequences.
"Emily are you sleeping?" I hear my mom.
"No, I can't." I said.
"Emily deer is something wrong?" My mom asked.
"Paige and I had a fight." I said.
"What was it about?" Mom asked.
"I don't feel like talking about it." I answered.
My mom walked next to me and sat down on the bed.
"Mom? Was dad overprotective when you two where together?"
"Well, he always wanted to make sure that I was safe and he'd go far at times but he only did those things to make sure that he wouldn't have to worry about me. Then when you were a baby he would set up these ridiculous rules like checking up on you every fifth minute when you were sleeping in your bed to make sure you weren't getting a fever or to make sure no kidnapper had broken in." My mom said.
"I acutely said that if he would stop being that overprotective I divorce him, then he seemed to dial down on being paranoid but when you were two years old I found out that he had installed security cameras outside the house. I wanted to scream at him but instead I started laughing. I never told him but I knew that he would protect us as much as he could, I just wish I told him that instead off yelling at him." My mom said and I started to cry since I knew Paige was only looking out for me.
I felt really bad over how I had reacted to Paige earlier and I felt how tears fell on my cheeks.
"Paige, must hate me." I said.
"No, she doesn't." My mom said, I wanted to believe her but I just couldn't, there was something that told me otherwise.
After a while I got ready to bed, my mom was downstairs and I was in my bathroom and brushed my teeth. When I got back to my room I listened to the voicemail that Paige had left me.
"Paige must really hate me now." I said to myself.
"No I don't." I heard a voice behind me, I turned around and saw Paige standing there in her Batgirl suite.
I ran into her and gave her a tight hug.
"You're here, you really here." I said as I buried my head in her shoulder.
"Why are you dressed like that?" I asked.
"Just to make sure that I can make a quick escape if your mom would walk in." Paige said.
I smiled at Paige and removed her mask to see her the way I always wanted to see her, her big brown eyes, her long auburn hair and her pink soft lips. Paige must have noticed that I was looking because she kissed me softly.
"I don't like it, when we fight." I said and Paige gave me a comforting hug.
She kissed the top off my head. "I'm so sorry." I sobbed into her shoulder
"You have nothing to forgive." Paige said.
"Emily? Are you still up?" I heard my mom call from downstairs.
"I'm just about to go to bed." I answered and look at Paige.
"Care to join me?" I asked Paige as I climb into bed.
"Sorry, but I don't think your mom wouldn't like it if she caught us in bed." Paige said.
"Ok, maybe some other time. Goodnight." Paige said and we kissed one last time, then Paige exit through my window, I wanted to do something with Paige and I knew just the thing.
The next day:
I was at school, it was lunch and I sat down with my friends and we talked about a lot of small things.
"So, how is the pregnancy?" Aria asked Hanna.
"Well, I've been eating more, but not so much... Are you going to finish that?" Hanna said and grabbed Spencer's tuna sandwich and took one big bite.
"Hanna! You don't even like tuna."
"Well my baby seems to love it." Hanna said and took another bite.
"Seems like I'm not eating that now." Spencer said and looked at me and Aria.
"So Emily, how are things with you and Paige?" Aria asked.
"She and I are good, I actually got a surprise for her after school." I said.
"Oooh, Emily got a surprise to her bed buddy." Hanna said in a flirty way.
"No not like that." I said and looked stern at Hanna. "I'm taking her ice skating." I said.
"Wow Em, I didn't think you were that romantic." Hanna said.
"Well, I am." I said and hoped Hanna wouldn't ask me any further questions.
Suddenly something covered my eyes "Guess who." a familiar voice said.
"My great love." I answered and smiled as I turned around and saw Paige standing there.
"Correct" Paige said and kissed me softly.
"So, got any plans for after school?" I asked.
"No, why?" Paige asked.
"Well there is this place I'd like you to come with me to." I answered.
"Where is this place?" Paige asked.
"I'll let you know when we get there" I answered and kissed her cheek then pulled her in for a hug.
"Meet me at the parking lot after class." I whispered to her, then I had to go to my class so I left Paige with the girls.
Later at the parking lot
I was leaning with my back against my car waiting for Paige.
I was getting a bit impatient waiting for her, I checked my watch and saw that I had only waited for five minutes but it felt like six hours.
I took a deep breath and checked my watch again, not much had changed there.
I looked up and saw Paige walking towards the parking lot. Finally.
I noticed that I was getting too excited so I closed my eyes and took a deep relaxing breath.
"Hi Em, have you waited long?" Paige asked me.
"Just six minutes." I answered. "Are you ready?" I said as we went in my car.
"Yeah, where are we going?" She asked.
"You'll see." I answered and I kept driving until we reached the ice rink.
"We're going ice skating." I said as I parked the car, I noticed that Paige looked a bit unsure.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"Nothing, I'm just a little tired." Paige answered and smiled.
We went inside the ice rink and got our skates I got on the ice just as my skates was on, I did an eight in the ice without any problem.
"Come on Paige!" I happily called and waved for her to come over, Paige slowly stepped on the ice and took a step before falling on her back. She stood up slowly and grabbed the rim.
"Paige? What are you doing?" I asked.
"I think my skates are a size too big." She answered and got back to changer her skates.
I stayed on the ice and started to skate backwards, I was a bit off an expert at this since my grandmother was a professional skater and she taught me a lot of things she could do until she passed away, I shock that last thought from my mind and jumped into the air and did a perfect landing.
I looked over and saw that Paige was slowly walking on the ice again, she took a few short steps on the ice and then she tripped. I skated over to her and helped her up.
"It wasn't the skates that was the problem right?" I said as I got Paige back on her feet.
"I've never did anything like this before." Paige said.
"Well, why didn't you tell me that?" I asked.
"You were so existed and I didn't want to ruin your mood." Paige answered and she lost her balance again but this time I caught her, I put her right arm on my right shoulder and made sure that we both faced the same way.
"Just do as I do." I said and started to move us, I went slowly and I noticed that Paige was looking down on our feet.
"Now tilt to your right." I said, she did and we both did a perfect right turn.
I kept started to move faster and Paige looked up and she saw how fast we were going and I could see her smile. We took another right turn and this time I ducked under Paige's arm so she was now skating on her own.
I skated up next to her and she seemed to notice that I wasn't holding her anymore.
"See you're doing it." I said.
"I preferred when we did it together." Paige said and smiled to me.
I moved next to her, put my arm behind her back and pulled her in close to me as we kept skating. We skated as we leaned against each other and laughed, we forgot time and just focused on each other as we skated around in the rink.
I suddenly got an idea to have some fun, I said "Go faster."
Paige looked at me and said "No I'm not sure I'm that good.
Then I broke away from Paige and said "Tag! You're it!" And stated to get some distance between her and me.
I turned around and started skating backwards again while Paige looked at me and said "Emily, Don't."
I looked at her and said "You are chicken." And then I flapped my arms like a pair off chicken wings.
"Oh, you did not just do that" Paige said.
"Oh, yes I did." I answered and started to skate away from Paige. "Catch me if you can!" I said mockingly in an attempt to get Paige to chase me.
"I'm going to get you for that." Paige said and she started to chase after me. I was obviously better than her since I found it very easy to stay at least five steps ahead off her.
"You're very slow, are you getting old?" I said.
"Why don't you get over here so I can show you just what I can do?" Paige shouted after me.
I loved Paige but I also found it really funny to tease her. I think I had finally figured out the one thing that Paige couldn't do to perfection.
I continued to skate making sure I was too far away from Paige to catch me but not too far away so she'd give up so the chase would go on for a long time.
"Are you going to catch me or do you just enjoy the rearview?" I asked Paige, wiggling my hips to tease her.
"Maybe." Paige answered.
I kept skating as I heard Paige breathing behind me, I knew she was getting closer, but I wasn't going to let her catch me just yet.
I skated towards the middle of the rink and made sure that Paige would close in on me, suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder then I lost my balance and fell right on top off Paige who was laying on her back on the ice.
"I caught you." Paige said as she breathed heavily.
"Yes you did." I said and smiled as I looked into Paige's big brown eyes.
I moved some hair that covered part of Paige's face and I leaned down to kiss her, but I changed my mind since there was a few very young children watching us and said that we were grows for almost kissing.
I got back to my feet and helped Paige back up.
"Well that could have gone better." I said.
"Emily, they were probably five or six years old, seeing people kiss are grows for them." Paige said.
"I know, but they did ruin a nice moment." I answered.
"Hey... Don't worry about that, we'll have more moments like that." Paige said.
"Yeah, I guess so. You were really great at the ice. When Hanna tried it she tripped so many times that some ice got stuck to her hair." I said.
"No way, really?" Paige said and tried to keep from laughing.
"Yes, she had so much ice pieces in her hair we called her Ice Blonde for a week, Caleb sometimes still call her that." I answered and Paige laughed so much she almost lost her balance, but I caught her and leaned close to her again. "Let's enjoy our time on the ice together." I said and them we both started to skate again.
"Ok everyone we'll just let you know that the rink will close in fifteen minutes." a voice said over the speakers. I looked at my watch and noticed that we had skated for three hours.
"Wow the time rally just flew by." I said and as I looked around I saw that Paige and I were the only two that was left in the rink, we were once again in the middle of the rink.
"Yeah, but now we can at least do this." Paige said and pulled me in for a soft kiss.
After the kiss I looked Paige into her eyes. "I want more happy moments like this." I said and hugged Paige.
"So do I Emily." Paige said and rubbed my back. "So do I."
