Chapter 43: Hypocrite
A/N: My story is now one year old, I never expected it to go on for s long and I want to thank each and everyone who's favorited and followed my story.
You guys are the reason I kept going on so thank you, all of you without you I'd never made it this far. You guys are the best and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.
Emily's Pov-
I was sitting at the dinner table with my mom and Hanna. When mom had found out that Hanna was pregnant she got very concern for Hanna and she didn't mind inviting her for dinner. Paige had also been invited but since she had recovered from her gunshot injury she was going to be Batgirl tonight.
I had tried to talk her into staying but she had said that making sure that I could sleep at nights where the only thing that could get her to sleep, which I found very ironic since I've only seen her sleep after we had made love, at this point I'm starting to consider to have sex with her more often since that's probably the way to get her to sleep.
"Too bad Paige couldn't get here. She's such a nice girl." Mom said.
"Yeah well she'll soon turn eighteen and then she will be in charge off her parents company so she'll have to start with some off the paperwork so everything will be set when she starts working there." I lied.
"So what are we eating?" Hanna asked.
"Meatloaf."
"Oh, is it done yet?" Hanna asked.
"Almost." Mom said and checked the oven, at this point I'm starting to compare Hanna to Homer Simpson when it came to eating.
"So, Paige won't join us?" Hanna asked.
"Yeah she's got some stuff with her future work to take care off." I answered.
"And she's done this often?" Hanna asked, now I'm starting to get worried off what she'll say next.
"Yeah, what are you trying to say?"
"That if Paige is going out this late most nights she must have a good reason for it." Hanna said and put her hand on my shoulder.
"Are you thinking that Paige is cheating on me?" I was really offended when I realized what Hanna thought.
"I'm just saying that she's probably not jumping into any burning buildings." Hanna said.
Paige's Pov-
I had just jumped into a building that was on fire, earlier tonight I saw a gang of A's men throwing Molotov's into a building and now the fire had spread very fast. The firemen had saved most of the civilians but there was one small boy who was still inside the building and the firemen couldn't get in there so I used my grappling hook and swung inside the building.
The fire made it hard to breathe so I used a gas mask that I had in my belt, it made it easier to breath but I had nothing that would help me from not fainting from the heat.
I kept moving forward and I reached for a door handle but once I touched it I could feel the fire burn my hand so I quickly left go for the handle.
"HELP!" I heard a voice scream from further down the hall so I ran towards it, as I did I heard the cries for help getting weaker and I heard coughing so I knew that I had to get there fast.
"Please... someone... help me." I ran towards the screams. Hold on kid, just hold on. Once I got to the end of the hall I could tell that the kid was in his room, I reached for the door handle but then I remembered that it was probably just as hot as the last one, so instead I took a few steps back, then I ran up to the door and kicked it. The door didn't break so I tried again and this time I saw a crack in it, I kicked three or four more times but the damn door was still there only now it was barely holding together so I gave it one last powerful kick and it broke in half as it fell to the floor.
"Kid! KID! Are you there?" I knew the kid was in here but I couldn't tell just where he was.
"I'm going to get you out of here." I said as I noticed that the floor was starting to give up, where was this kid?
Suddenly something (or more specifically someone) shove me so I lost my balance and fell to the floor. When I looked up I saw the kid, he couldn't be older than eight and he was terrified and he was running into the hall. I knew that he was scared but it wasn't because off the fire. He was scared off me.
"Don't run I'm here to help!" I yelled as I got up just as the floor collapsed, I managed to grab a pipe to break my fall. I pulled myself up the pipe and I climbed out the door opening into the hall. Now I had to hurry if I was going to save the kid before this entire place falls down.
Emily's Pov-
We sat down at the table and Hanna had a very big slice of meatloaf and I mean a really big slice like three times bigger than what she'd usually eat for a meal maybe even more than she'd eat for a day.
"Please pass the humus... oh and some sliced onions." Hanna said when she had already drowned her meatloaf in gravy.
"Erm... ok." Mom said and went to the refrigerator to get the humus.
"Hanna are you sure about... that?" I asked and nodded towards her plate.
"Yes, I feel like eating this today and I'll eat this today." She answered.
I wasn't really sure on what to say next, I just ate my food and hope that Hanna wouldn't comment more on the food.
When my mom returned I almost prayed that Hanna wouldn't add more things to her already overfull plate. We ate and had some small talk.
After the dinner Hanna and I went to my room while mom did the dishes.
"So what do you think Paige does at night when she isn't with you?" Hanna asked. Why Hanna?
"I don't know, I'm not going to snoop on my girlfriend." I answered.
"Well, isn't it strange that Paige isn't here, eating dinner with her girlfriend?" Hanna asked.
"She is busy, Hanna. I talked to Paige earlier today and she said she was busy with homework." I said, it was true, Paige did tell me that she was going to be busy tonight.
"I just think it's strange that she always does these thing at nights, if I didn't know any better I'd say that Paige is Batgirl." Hanna said and I just laughed like a moron.
"Paige is Batgirl, come on Hanna get real." I said as I kept fake laugh.
"Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking." Hanna said and started to laugh to.
Paige's Pov-
I walked slowly towards the terrified kid who was walking towards the balcony.
"I'm here to help you, I'm one of the good guys." I said as I walked closer.
The kid just backed away from me "You don't look like a good guy." He said when he noticed that he was standing on the edge of the balcony.
"This is just to scare the bad guys." I said as I stood on the other side of the balcony, I had to let the kid come to me.
Suddenly the railing that the kid was leaning against broke and he lost his balance and fell over the edge.
"NO!" I ran to that edge and saw the kid hanging from a flagpole.
"Give me your hand." I said as I reach for him, I reached out as far as I could but he was just out of my reach. "Hey, kid!" He looked at me but he was still too scared to trust me. "Give me your hand." I shouted but the kid didn't answer, he just stared at me still terrified. "Dammit all." I said then I took of my mask showing the kid that I wasn't a monster. "You're... you're just a girl." The kid said stunned, then he reached for my hand. I was just fingertips away from reaching him, suddenly the flagpole the kid held on to snapped and the kid fell.
I quickly jumped after him, I wasn't going to let him die. He screamed in horror as he fell to the ground but I managed to grab him with my left hand, with my other hand I grabbed my grappling hook and fired it onto a nearby building that broke our fall and we both landed safely on the ground.
As soon as the kids' feet were on the ground I put my mask back on and he looked at me and smiled.
Emily's Pov-
The next day:
I'm with Aria, Spencer and Hanna at Hanna's house, she's standing by the blender and filled it with guacamole and pumpkin, guess it's another one off her cravings.
I'm not going to lie, yesterday when Hanna said that Paige could be Batgirl I froze, I was really worried that Hanna had figured it out and what exactly was I going to say, It's a good thing she started to laugh when she did otherwise I wouldn't know what to say.
"Hanna that's disgusting." Aria said as she looked at the things Hanna put in the blender.
"Maybe, but that's what I feel like eating." Hanna said and reached for some ice cream that she put in the blender before she started to mix it.
"So Aria congratulations on getting the lead in the Batgirl musical." I said trying to change the subject.
"Yeah, really good job." Spencer said and patted Aria on her back.
"Thank you guys I was worried that I wasn't going to... oh my god." Aria said and covered her eyes and when me and Spencer looked where Aria had looked we wanted to cover our eyes to, Hanna was drinking whatever that thing she had mixed and it was just discussing to watch.
"I can't believe you just drank that." I said when Hanna wiped the green stains around her mouth.
"What?" Hanna asked like it wasn't a big deal. All we could do was to stare at her.
We didn't know what to say since Hanna would get offended no matter how we'd say it, I had no idea if it was her hormones or if she was faking it but I wasn't going to say that to Hanna.
"So you guys want to go to the mall?" I asked and everyone agreed.
Paige's Pov-
I was at Mrs. DiLaurentis house where she showed me her high school year book.
"You see that blonde shy girl over there?" Mrs. DiLaurentis said and pointed to a blonde girl wearing a lab coat. "That's your mother.
"No that's not her." I said after looking at the girl.
"You're not easy to trick." Mrs. DiLaurentis said and turned to another picture in the book "There she is." She said and pointed at another picture and this time I knew it was my mom.
"You look so much like her." She said and I smiled.
I liked this, my aunt never talked about my parents but Mrs. DiLaurentis told me everything she knew about them, it was like there was a part of them still living.
"I really like this." I said.
"I know, it's nice for me to have someone around that won't try to kill me." Mrs. DiLaurentis said.
After a few hours I had to leave so I said my goodbyes to Mrs. DiLaurentis and when I reached my mansion I met Irina, she was standing at the front door.
"Hi Paige, I need you to help me with something, tonight." She said sounding like something was wrong.
"What is it?" I asked.
"I've found A's lair where she keeps all information and I'm going to hack into A's computer and then this could all be over" Irina said.
I got worried because if Irina had found what she claimed she had found it meant that A would kill Irina as soon as she'd found out what Irina had done.
"Irina listen I'm not going to let you risk your life for something that probably doesn't even exist." I said. I wasn't going to let Irina go on a suicide mission on a hunch.
"This is the real deal Paige, I've been tracking A for a long and I know a lot because I've been sneaking around watching A's activities for a while so I know where it is and I know it's exists and I know exactly where it is." Irina answered.
"Listen, Paige. We can end this tonight, all you have to do is to get me inside undetected and let me find the info I need than A won't have anything to hide behind and it'll be over." Irina said, I do like the idea to get rid of A once and for all.
"What do you want me to do?" I asked.
"I need you to get in and out undetected, A won't know what I have done until it's too late." Irina said.
"Ok, I'll just get my Batsuit." I said but Irina grabbed my shoulder when I was about to enter my mansion. "No Paige, if they see Batgirl they'll know something is up and destroy all evidence before you'll get there. Just grab some of your equipment, we need to do this differently." Irina said.
Later:
Irina and I were in her car driving down a road in an abandoned neighborhood. We were dressed in dark jeans, black sweaters and we had brought ski masks, I felt like a hypocrite wearing this.
"I know you hate wearing this but if you was wearing your Batgirl suit A's villains would be very suspicious and put that place in full lockdown." Irina said.
"I know, but still this feels... just so wrong." I said.
"We're almost there." Irina said and parked her car and walked out. "Where are you going? I asked. "To the place." She answered. "It's a few blocks this way." Irina said and started to walk.
"What was the point with the car if we're going to walk?" I asked.
"A can't see my car leaving the area, then she'd track me down." Irina said and kept walking down the street.
After a few more blocks we reached a semi-open manhole that she moved enough for us to climb down.
"You really thought through everything." I said as we put on our masks and walked around the sewer.
"There are lots of surveillance cameras around this last block, that's why we're going... that way." Irina said after checking her cellphone. "I got the blueprints downloaded." she said and we kept moving until we reached a ladder. We climb up and then she pushed the roof and then it opened like a secret door and we both climbed up.
"Where are we?" I asked as I looked around and saw that I was inside a bathroom.
"We're in an old bank, they left it years ago." Irina said.
"So what do you need me to do?" I asked.
"You're going to help me get to the main computer undetected." Irina said.
"So no fighting?" I asked.
"Yeah, we're going in and out undetected no one can see us." Irina said.
"Ok." I said and leaned against the door. "It's no one on the other side." I said and opened the door.
Once we had reached the hallway I heard a voice coming our way. "Irina" I wave her over to me and then I used my grappling hook and used it to pull us up to the roof.
Two henchmen walked into the hallway, Irina and I didn't move a muscle waiting for them to pass.
"I heard the boss is thinking about cancelling the shipment." Once of the henchmen said.
"A won't do it, there is too much money at stake." The other said.
"Ok, but..."
"No buts, once this deal is done we'll have enough firepower to be more powerful than ever."
"And the Bat?"
"As soon as she's dead nothing can stand in our way."
Both men walked out of the hallway and Irina and I dropped very silently to the floor.
We kept sneaking until we reached the vault, it was locked but Irina seemed to know the code to open it.
Once the vault was open we saw something that I wasn't expecting, It looked like something from a spy movie, it was lots of computers all linked together to tons of servers.
"This is what we've been looking for." Irina said. "I'll hack this thing and find some useful files then I can find out who A is. You stay guard and warn me if someone is coming." Irina said and I checked the surveillance cameras. This felt strange, I was Batgirl and now I'm doing this like a thief.
I looked at the surveillance and saw one-off the henchmen heading to the vault, he was armed with an assault rifle. I grabbed some batrangs and moved to take care of him.
"What are you doing?" Irina said as I moved to the vault door that we had left ajar.
"There's a guard on his way here so I'll take care of it." I answered.
"You can't do that, if you do A will know that someone was in here." Irina said.
"Well I have to do something." I said.
"Yes, close the vault door and wait for him to leave." Irina said so I did that.
This sucked, I was used to fight A's men not hide from them, but for now I did what Irina told me since it was the smartest thing to do.
"See he's not even going to get inside here, like I said I've watched A's activities and I know more than you think." Irina said, she was smart like a genius an evil genius.
After a few hours Irina left the computer. "Ok I got the files but there decrypted so I'll decrypt them from my dorm." She said sounding a bit self-disappointed.
The guard had just left for a bathroom break so we sneaked out of the vault and then I used my grappling hook to get to an air duct that we used to get back to the bathroom where we had entered and sneaked back to the sewers and once we were back on the street I removed my ski mask and took a deep breath.
"This smell will take a while to get rid of." I said.
"Yeah you probably want to burn those clothes I know I'm going to." Irina said.
"I hope this will be worth it."
"Don't worry cousin this will be all worth it." Irina said and grabbed her cellphone and called a taxi.
"We got here by car." I said.
"I'll get it later." Irina said it's hard to tell if she was careful or paranoid.
The cab came and picked us both up and it dropped me off at my mansion, I stepped out and Irina smiled. "It's soon over Paige just a little longer I swear it." She said and the cab drove away to her student dorm.
