A/N: This is a shortish chapter but it is a necessary one. What to expect: things moving quickly and it's told in many different POVs. I clearly outlined who was talking or thinking to lessen any confusions. I will say that everything happened in roughly 2 hours. And also, I am not a medical personnel so please do not hold any errors against me. I tried my best to research stuffs on Google and you already know how that goes sometimes. Haha. Also, for the first time you will read Iya's POV. In the future as the kids grow older you will get their POVS. Anyways, without further ado, I present to you chapter 25! Thank you for your continuous support and reviews. Please continue to leave them.

Iya's POV

Iya had never felt more terrified in her life; the look on her father's face haunted her as she rode over to the hospital with her Aunty Raye, her husband, cousin and brother. She was used to seeing her father strong and in charge taking care of them, so much so that she wasn't prepared to see the devastating look on his face when he climbed into the ambulance with her mother. He looked like he was one second away from breaking down and it was a look she hoped to never witness again. She could feel her heart beating fast and her palms became clammy the closer they got to the hospital. Her Aunty Raye was talking on the phone but she couldn't make out what was being said. Her emotions were completely focused on her mother and grandfather. She silently recited the Lord's Prayer she'd learned during one of her several church visits.

"Iya," she heard the faint sound of her little brother's voice. She almost forgot that he was sitting besides her, holding on tightly to her little hand. She knew he was scared seeing their mother in pain and grandfather unconscious.

"Tommy," she whispered his name softly.

"Is mommy and grandpa going to be alright?" She saw the tears welled up in his grey eyes, threatening to spill over. She bit the inside of her cheeks from breaking into tears, and nodded her head yes. She didn't know what was going on but she believed that they would be ok.

Tommy still didn't look convinced and she knew her brother was probably thinking up the worst possible thoughts. Doing what she was expected to do as his big sister; she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him to her small chest. At the contact, they both let out their worried tears on each other.

Fitz' POV

Meanwhile at Winthrop University Hospital, Fitz felt like he was going out of his mind. Again, time felt like it had stopped and he was going through the motions as he climbed out of the ambulance. His left hand hurting from being squeezed tightly by his panting wife, her contractions were coming fast and close. By the look of things they would be meeting baby Grant soon. Fitz was completely torn on where he should be, on one hand his wife was in labor and on the other hand his father was having a heart attack – and from the look of things it didn't look good. Fitz tilted his head backwards to keep the tears at bay as he walked alongside the paramedics that pushed his wife on a gurney. Dear Lord please don't take my father on the day that my baby will be born. Fitz mentally prayed.

He could hardly hear the screams of his wife, everything sounded so far away and he felt trapped in a dream. He didn't realize that they had reached an examining room until they transferred her onto the bed. A doctor came in to examine her and said that she was already six centimeters dilated. That was the only thing he heard as he stared at the clinical white walls. He felt a sharp pain when her fingernails bore into his skin from her tight grip – it was a particularly big contraction that hit her. In that moment Fitz forced himself to snap out of the shock and fear that was crippling him. His wife needed him and he needed to be there for her despite of the circumstances.

When his eyes finally focused on her he saw her eyes reflecting cold, dead fear. Something was wrong, something was gravely wrong. Olivia was losing consciousness. Fitz began panicking and the nurses held him back as they began examining her.

He was one hairbreadth away from blacking out. This was too much for him to bear. Why God? Why? I won't forgive you if you take them away from me, his thoughts.

Janet's POV

Janet rode over in the ambulance that held her husband's lifeless body. She couldn't remember the last time she had prayed so much. She recited the 23 Psalms over and over. Praying that the God of the universe wouldn't take away her best friend, her confidant and lover. They still had so much to do, places to visit and grandchildren to be there for. He couldn't die, not now, not now, she internally mused. When they used the defibrillator on his chest she held her breath as though it would somehow bring him back. The paramedics did it once, no response, twice, no response. Her tears fell faster with each attempt to revive his ailing heart but nothing seemed to be working. From the distance she saw one of the paramedics turned up the volume on the AED, it looked like it was on the highest. With that much electrical current they applied it to his chest and before her eyes she saw his piercing grey eyes open, and he gasped for oxygen.

Janet cried out in relief but she didn't celebrate, they were still many miles away from the end of the tunnel. With an oxygen mask on his face, he was unable to speak to her – but she would take the firm grip that was now wrapped around her hand versus the cold lifeless hand she held minutes before she had to release him.

Raye's POV

Raye tried to be a tough trooper as they sat waiting in the private waiting room. A minute ago she saw her brother's two bodyguards entered the room, no doubt he had called them to ward off any nosy reporter or persons that were looking to gather information about them in such a sensitive situation. Her husband tried to comfort her but it wasn't working, her mind was with her father. She shook her legs nervously as her eyes darted back and forth at each passerby that she saw through the fiberglass walls of the room, hoping that it would be the figure of her mother or brother.

"Aunty Raye, can I go see, my mommy?" Tommy asked from his position next to his sister. They were drawing strength from each other and she felt bad that she wasn't the one offering them any; she truly didn't have any to give.

"Not yet, sweetheart. Your father will come get you." As she was speaking her little boy climbed off of his father's lap to come sit on hers. When he was on top of her, he hugged her tightly with his little arms and she hugged him back.

Fitz' POV

"We have to operate on her. Please sign this form giving us permission to do so. The baby is in distress and we need to perform an emergency C-section." The doctor stated.

Fitz quickly grabbed the clipboard and pen, and scribbled his signature on the paper.

"It's going to be ok, honey," he turned his attention on Olivia. She had regained consciousness within a split second of losing it. They didn't know what had caused her to blackout but she was conscious now, which was a good sign. However, the baby's heart rate dropped significantly during the last contraction so they were all clearly worried.

"I'm scared," Olivia returned. Her doe shaped eyes that were normally full of life seemed bleak and cold.

"It's going to be ok," Fitz half chuckled, trying to lighten up the room.

"Take care of my kids, if –"

"Don't! Don't… do that, Olivia! Don't say that! You and our baby are going to be fine." Fitz spoke louder than he had meant to. How could she question if she was going to make it? He couldn't go on without her if she didn't. Then he realized that it was probably the anesthesia that has her speaking like that.

"We need to take her into the OR now," one of the nurses said, breaking up the solemn atmosphere.

Iya's POV

It felt like hours had passed by and they hadn't received any update about what was going on. She was thinking to herself by now her father was supposed to be coming to give them the good news of their new baby brother or sister, or her nana coming to tell them that grandpa was ok but neither happened. She tried to fight the nervous habit of biting her fingernails but she succumbed. She knew that if her mother was there that she would chided her for it, and the thought made her sadder. She wanted to see her mommy; she wanted to see her grandpa. She wanted to know what was going on, she hated being left in the dark.

The sound of her father's stage name pulled her out of her thoughts. She looked up at the small flat screen TV that was housed on the wall and was surprised to see a picture of her, her father and brother at the basketball game the night before. They looked so happy and relaxed compared to the other picture of her and her brother walking into the hospital with their Aunty Raye and the others with tear stained faces. Somehow the news of her grandfather's heart attack and mother's labor had gotten out. And now it was for the public consumption. She never cared for the gossip news outlet but now she hated them. Why were they plastering her and her brother's face talking about how they felt their pain when they didn't? How dare them! They didn't know the half of what she was feeling.

"Turn that off!" Iya yelled before she could stop herself, and burst into tears – sobbing uncontrollably. She wanted her parents. No! She needed her parents and they weren't there.

From her peripheral view she saw Mr. Tom turning the TV off.

Big Jerry's POV

Meanwhile in one of the ICU rooms, a recovering Big Jerry laid listening to his doctor as he delivered the bad news. Dr. Travis was the lead cardiologist at Winthrop, he was also the reason why Big Jerry had came to this very hospital 3 months ago when his primary physician told him that his annual EKG was off. After several tests were done he was diagnosed with heart disease. His wife and him never told the kids because they didn't want to worry them. In his mind, he thought that as long as he exercised, ate right and took his meds that he would be ok. But apparently that wasn't good enough.

"Mr. Grant, what I'm trying to say is, we are going to have to go in and plant stents into your arteries. Some are too weak to hold up on their own while some have blockage. The sooner we do this the better."

Big Jerry looked at his wife who was standing to his right side, her hand forever grasping his. He saw the clear worry on her face and he didn't like her wearing it. He knew that he was getting up in age, but at 73 he never thought that he would need heart surgery.

"Are you sure that will rectify the situation instead of doing a bypass surgery?" Janet asked. Being that she was a retired nurse albeit pediatric she was aware of the choices a heart attack victim has.

"At this time no. We do not see the need for him to go through such an invasive procedure."

"How soon can we do this?" Big Jerry spoke up.

Janet looked at the young doctor who looked like he was ready to do more convincing if necessary but was surprised that he didn't have to.

Olivia's POV

"You look beautiful today," she heard her husband said in a loving tone, trying to reassure her and keep her calm. He was fully suited up in scrubs as he stood close to her head. There was a sheet or curtain she didn't know which one it was that obstructed their views from the operating doctors and nurses.

She gave him a weak smile in return. Olivia felt drowsy but not on the precipice of sleep. However, she felt no pain. She was flabbergasted that she was lying in the operating room undergoing a caesarean. With her two other children this wasn't even an option because she always had healthy pregnancies. She mentally chalked this one up to probably the stress of watching her father in law succumbed to a heart attack while trying to catch him. The thought of her father in law made her heartbeat speed up and the doctors took notice.

One of them lifted their head to tell her that she needed to breath deeply to calm her racing heart. Fitz took over and began instructing her to breathe. She took deep breaths for a minute or so before her heart rate returned to regular.

"How is Big Jerry?" she asked in a faint voice. She took note of the sad look that flashed across his face. Her eyes widen in alarm. "Did he?" She couldn't voice the other part of the question, which was died.

Fitz looked down at her, his facial expression mirroring hers and he simply shrugged his shoulder.

Harrison's POV

He had just returned from the vending machine down the hall with snacks and sodas for the kids. He distributed them around the room and the kids, including his started eating – clearly hungry. He wasn't too hungry because of the present circumstance that his family faced. He knew that his wife couldn't handle losing her father so unexpectedly. Even though she was a grown woman, wife and mother, she was still a daddy's girl. She adored her father to the moon and back. He didn't know what losing her father would be like and quite frankly he didn't want to find out – at least not today. His thoughts were startled when he saw one of Fitz's bodyguards open the door and his mother in law entered. His wife immediately got up from her place next to his and rushed towards her mother, the children did the same and they all enveloped her in a hug.

"Mom, where is he? Is he ok? Please tell me he's ok." His wife rushed out between tears.

Janet's small reassuring smile was enough to relieve him. However, he could tell his wife did not feel the same way. She needed words to assuage her worry and fear.

"Your father is awake. Yes, he did have a heart attack but he's awake." His mother in law finally spoke the words that would give his wife reprieve.

"Where? I want to go see him?" Raye implored.

"Me too," Iya spoke up.

"Where's my mommy?" Tommy asked instead.

And it wasn't until that moment that Janet noticed that her son and daughter in law weren't in the room.

Fitz' POV

After what felt like forever he finally heard the sound of their baby crying. Loud, strong wails escaped their little mouth. He watched the tears that fell from his wife's eyes and he couldn't help but shed a few of his own. Their baby was finally here.

"Congrats, Mr. and Mrs. Grant, you have a healthy baby girl."

Olivia's eyes widen at the doctor's words and she whispered, " a girl."

"A girl," Fitz confirmed.

"Would you like to cut the umbilical cord?" The doctor asked, pulling them out of their revere. Fitz sobered up and ventured pass the curtain for the first time to see his baby girl. He held the scissors that was given to him and used it to clip the cord.

"She looks just like you, Livvie." Fitz said, his voiced choked on unshed tears.

"Welcome Amia (uh-mee-ah)," he said to his little girl. That was the name they had settled on when they'd met an orphan girl on their visit at an orphanage in Paris. She was the sweetest little girl they had ever met, even though life had thrown her the biggest hurdles she somehow continued to live with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes. They'd spent an entire afternoon as a family with her. Fitz even invited her, along with the other orphans and caregiver to come to his concert the following evening. So in honor of the sweet little girl they promised to name the baby Amia if it was a girl. It meant beloved and no other name would be more befitting for their little princess.

Fitz returned to his wife's side and held her hand. "You did good, baby." He leaned down and kissed her forehead. In this moment he was able to push aside all worry and negative thoughts as he basked in the atmosphere of being a father again.

"Poor Tommy," Olivia said with a smile. "He's sandwich by estrogen."

Fitz chuckled deeply, "he'll be fine."

Their moment was broken when the nurse brought over a swaddled in pink hospital blanket, Amia. "You have a big one here, 9lbs 6 oz." The nurse relayed the measurement.

"Oh my Lord!" Olivia exclaimed. "No wonder I became the size of a house," she said as she collected her baby girl into her awaiting arms. Her energy was renewed, even more so that she didn't have to give birth naturally and the numbness from the anesthesia also helped.

Fitz took in the sight of mother and daughter bonding for the first time and his heart swelled with happiness. He grabbed his phone that was held in the front pocket of the scrub, it was placed on silent before they entered the room. He wanted to take a picture of the duo. When he took out the phone it was then that he saw he had countless amount of text messages and missed phone calls. However, one stood out to him. It was from his sister saying, "Dad is awake and doing well."

"Thank God!" he exclaimed, feeling the weight and the pressure around his chest instantly being released.

"He's awake," he told his wife when he saw her looking at him with expectant eyes.

"Who is?" And just like a light bulb being turned on, her eyes brighten with realization. "Mia, your grandpa is awake," she cooed at her little girl.

Fitz turned on his camera and crouch next to Olivia and Amia, and then snapped a picture of them. He quickly sent it to Raye with the following attachment, "We're also doing good. Amia is here."

Iya's POV

She and Tommy were visiting their grandfather who looked paler than usual lying in the hospital bed. They had moved him from the ICU to a private room, he was doing much better and his surgery was scheduled for the next morning. She was happy that he was awake, even though she was still terrified about what had transpired a few hours earlier. Her grandmother and Aunty Raye were clearly relieved, as they stood closest to him. Though, she and Tommy stood by the door afraid of getting any closer to him, terrified of causing him pain.

"Come see your grandfather," Nana urged.

Iya gave her a small smile and touched Tommy's back to usher him forward. Together they took tentative steps towards them.

"Hey kiddoes," grandfather said in a deep tone.

"Hey grandpa," Iya returned in a small voice.

"Hey Tommy boy."

Tommy looked down at his feet but didn't respond. She elbowed him but that didn't do anything. Her brother needed to see that mommy was ok in order for him to be ok. She prayed that would happen soon.

"Tommy…" Nana Janet began, coming to her grandson's side.

The sound of a cellphone startled her in place.

"Sorry," Raye said, retrieving her cellphone from her pocket. "It's from Fitz." They head learned that they were in the delivery room but that was all that was told to them by the nurses.

"Oh my gosh!" Raye squealed. "The baby is here. It's a girl guys! You have a baby sister!"

Iya burst into a smile. "Let me see!" She asked, stretching out her petite hand for her aunt's iPhone.

Raye turned the phone around and showed them the picture of her father, mother and her baby sister. Fresh tears welled in her eyes as she took in the scene.

"I want to go see them!" Tommy vocalized; he was clearly excited and relieved to see his parents, especially his mother. It had been two long hours since he had last seen either of them.

Iya clasped her hands together and smiled, she has a baby sister. A baby sister, she thought in wonderment. She was very happy about it.

Olivia's POV

She was relocated to a private room with her baby while Fitz went in search of their other two children. As she sat up in bed nursing Amia, she felt a sense of calm and peace. Thanks to her attending nurse she was able to be in a somewhat seated position. Today has to be chalked up as one of the worst but also blessed days of her life. It was only blessed because of life that was given to them and life that was returned to them. Other than that she hoped to never relive it.

When Amia looked like she had her fill of breast milk, Olivia put away her breast and began rubbing circles onto her back.

The sound of her children's voice accompanied by her husband's alerted her to their impending presence.

"Mommy!" Tommy broke away from the pack as soon as they entered through the door and rushed to her side. She immediately reached for him, she stretched as far as she could without affecting her incision, while supporting Amia with her other hand.

"I…I…I thought something happened to…you…you… disappeared…and…and," Tommy choked through tears.

"Baby, mommy is here. I'm right here sweetie, I'm not going anywhere," she hoped. "I have someone for you to meet. This is your baby sister, Amia." She watched as his bloodshot eyes looked up at his sister for the first. His frown instantly turned into a smile as he observed the curly hair newborn with pink lips and pale skin. He couldn't decipher her eyes color because they were tightly shut.

"Hi Amia," he whispered as if his loud voice would startle her awake.

Iya joined them at the bedside and she too also peered down on her twin. "She's beautiful, mommy. Welcome to the family, Mia." She said, playing with the newborn's feet.

Olivia looked up and gave her eldest daughter a dashing smile; tears sprang to her eyes as she took in the scenery in front of her. This beautiful baby she really didn't plan for or necessarily wanted was finally here and she was clearly loved by all of them. This moment was everything.

She didn't realize that her husband was secretly taking pictures of the four of them until she caught him. He gave her a heartwarming smile and walked over to them.

"I love you all so much, and I'm so sorry that you were scared today. Life is so short and all we have is each other, we must remember that every day that we live. Family is what is important and you four are the most important to me. I love you so much that words can't begin to describe it." Everything that happened that day triggered her to profess her unconditional lover for her family. They were truly her everything.

"We love you too, sweetheart. " Her husband's baritone voice assured, and he kissed her on her forehead.

The Grants stayed in the room for as long as they could before Baby Amia had to go retire in the nursery.

And from that moment things had never been the same, literally. However, they would make it because at the end of the day, Family First…

A/N: Did you enjoy it? Again, please don't judge my medical/hospital procedures, etc. which is clearly not accurate. Anyways, let me know your thoughts on the entire chapter, so much happened. Big Jerry has to do surgery, Liv underwent a caesarean, and Baby Amia is here – woohoo! Poor Tommy was going out of his mind while wondering where his mother was, and Iya tried to be the strong and supporting big sister. Let me know your thoughts via review.

Next chapter will be a time jump. Not by a lot, probably just a few weeks.

Until next time,

XOXO
