**I do own Katelynn Odden and Chronos G. Reaper, however
Chronos waited for Katelynn to catch up to him at the foothold of the hill impatiently. After a groan, he yelled at her, "Hurry up, Viking! You're going to miss the contest."
"Keep your shirt on, I'm coming!" Katelynn snapped back bitterly. "What contest are you talking about?"
"Just come here." Chronos positioned Katelynn on the hill so she could see better as soon as she joined him.
Katelynn smacked his hands away. "No touchy…" she growled.
Chronos raised an eyebrow at her. "Remember who you're talking to?"
"Yeah, but I don't care." Katelynn huffed, "Why did you bring me here?"
Chronos pointed ahead. "See yourself."
Through the trees, there was a large crowd of people in traditional Scottish dresses, kilts, and outfits in a large open space. Behind the crowd was a huge stone castle and in front of the crowd were three men with a bow and quiver filled with arrows. Each man had their own unquiet attire and flag. The crowd was cheering wildly.
"…Get on with it!" a booming Scottish voice yelled over the crowd. It came from the wood spectator's box near the men and crowd.
In curiosity, Katelynn snuck her way towards to the spectator's box to get a better view of both the contest and the people in the box.
"Wha—? Viking!" Chronos called quietly towards Katelynn. "Get back here!"
Katelynn turned towards Chronos and stuck her tongue at him. She continued to get closer to the spectator's box.
Chronos groaned and quickly followed her. When he got to her, she was right next to the box, her back against the outer wall. She was about to peak her head around the wall to see who was inside the spectator's box. Chronos grabbed her arm and yanked her back out of sight before she was spotted. Katelynn was about to protest but Chronos slapped his hand over her mouth and with the other, he pressed his index finger onto his lips. He slowly took his hand away from her mouth and to his relief, she stayed quiet. Chronos glared at her as he silently scowled her. She just rolled her eyes. She returned her attention to the contest when she heard a frustrated yell. The man in the center of the line was throwing a tantrum.
Katelynn stifled a laugh, "Well, that's attractive…" She jumped when a young woman's voice said the same thing…at the same time.
The young voice continued, "Good arm!"
"And such lovely flowing locks," added the voice from before.
"Fergus…" warned a mature older woman voice.
Fergus, Katelynn assumed, asked innocently, "What?"
Back to the open range, the last of the men was struggling to get an arrow out of his quiver. He was chasing the quiver like a dog chasing its tail; he was littering the ground with arrows as he did so. When the boy finally got the arrow and set it, it kept on going to the side. He could barely keep a hold of the arrow!
"Oh, for the love of—! Shoot, boy!" Fergus yelled.
His yell startled the boy. He accidentally shot his arrow. The arrow whizzed through the air and hit the center of his target down the range. The crowd cheered. An older male voice chirped, "Well, done, my boy!" Katelynn assumed that was the boy's father.
Suddenly, the older woman's voice in the spectator's box, gasped and yelled, "Merida!"
Katelynn's eyes shot back to the range at the call of the name. She's heard it before. A figure in a black cloak came past the first shooter with the a flag of its own. Katelynn narrowed her eyes at the symbol, a vague familiarity coming to her of the symbol. When the person pulled off the cloak, Katelynn's heart nearly stopped and her eyes bugged out of her head.
Chronos pulled Katelynn away from the box, surprised that she came along with no word. Her eyes never left the girl, like she was in a trance. He was almost literally dragging behind him as they went back up the hill. "It would be helpful if you'd move your bloody feet."
"Huh? O-Oh, yeah…sorry." Katelynn mumbled.
Chronos raised an eyebrow and faced her. "What's with the jitters, Viking?"
"Who…who was that? The person in the cloak?"
"That was Merida Dunbroch. The first born of Queen Elinor and King Fergus Dunbroch, the oldest of four. Her younger brothers are Hamish, Hubert, and Harris, they are triplets." Chronos explained. "She also happens to be the Guardian of Summer, protector of Courage. She is one of the Big Four." He noticed that she still looked as if she saw a ghost. "Oi, come, now…it's not that heart stopping!" then it hit him, "It's something else, isn't it?"
Katelynn slowly nodded.
"Then what?"
"She…Merida…she looks like…she looks like my great-grandma. I mean…just like her…but younger."
Chronos raised an eyebrow. "She does?"
"Já, já…"
"What's her name?"
"Fiona DeBroach…"
"Fiona DeBroach…Fiona…DeBroach…oh! Fiona! Ah, she is a fiery old lady! Yes, she does! That is because DeBroach is a form of Dunbroch. The name was lost a couple centuries ago because it was merged with another name. Trust me, I know, because I was there."
"Are you saying…?"
"Yes. You are the many-greats-niece of Merida Dunbroch. Also, you may already know this but…you are also the many-greats-granddaughter of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third." Chronos interrupted. Then he clapped and rubbed his hands together. "Now then! One more to visit, Viking. And may I remind you, do not run off yourself again. We may have been invisible back in the Tower but right now, we aren't. You are not a ghost but I am. So be careful and not expose yourself." He paused before he asked her, "Got it?"
"…Já…" Katelynn mumbled.
"Good." Chronos clapped his hands twice once again. The red blood sand swirled around them once more. White took their visions.
Katelynn eyes opened when she felt something wet fall on her noise. Snow. That's all she could see.
"Welcome to Colonial America, where we find the final one of the Four," said Chronos from behind her.
"Colonial America?" Katelynn repeated. She whistled, "That's quite a jump…"
Chronos beckoned her to follow him. "This way, his family's cabin is by the pond." As they walked, he asked her, "Aren't you a bit chilly?"
Katelynn shrugged. "I'm fine. The cold never bothered me anyway." she narrowed her eyes off ahead. She stepped forward.
Chronos grabbed her arm and wagged his finger. "Ah-ah-ah…no running off."
"Oh. Right. Sorry…" Katelynn ripped her arm away from Chronos' grip. "And I told you 'no touchy'."
Chronos smirked. "You did, didn't you?" he suddenly shivered and rolled his shoulders.
"What's up?"
"I sense…" Chronos mumbled. "We need to hurry!"
They ran through the snow covered ground and trees. Chronos grabbed Katelynn and pulled her back when she almost fell off of the small cliff due to running to far. They backed up away from the ledge.
Katelynn looked down. "Hey, that's the pond near Jamie's house!" she scanned the pond and gasped. Down below there were two people ice skating, one older teenaged boy with brown hair and a young girl that had brown hair as well in 16th century clothing. "Jamie…oh, my God, it's Jamie!"
Chronos was just about to scold her for being so loud but his eyes snapped back below when he heard a yelp.
The boy below spun around quickly to face towards the cliff that Katelynn and Chronos were standing on. He made eye contact with Katelyn, making Katelyn's heart skip a beat. When he spun around, he let go of the young girl's hand. She slid out of control and fell on her butt to slide away from him. She wobbled as she slowly stood back to her feet. She yelped when she felt the ice below her suddenly crack. "Jack!"
The boy, now named Jack, spun around to her voice, breaking his eye contact with Katelynn. His eyes widened. "Emma!"
Katelynn covered her mouth and made a small squeak. 'Oh, my God…'
Jack skated his way towards the girl, now named Emma, he yelped when the ice cracked under his feet and back up until the spider web-like cracks stopped following him. Jack reached slowly down and removed his ice skates, leaving him barefoot. "It's okay. It's okay. Don't look down, just look at me," he said to her calmly yet seriously.
Emma was rooted to the spot. A spider's web of cracks emanated from where she stands. "Jack…I'm scared…" The ice below her splintered more. She wobbled as it started to separate.
"I know, I know...but you're gonna be alright. You're not gonna fall in," Jack assured her. He paused and said, "We're gonna have a little fun instead."
"No, we're not!" Emma yelled.
"Would I trick you?" Jack asked her.
"Yes, you always play tricks!" Emma said behind tears.
"Well, alright. Well, not, not this time. I promise. I promise, you're gonna be...you're gonna be fine." Jack fixed his gaze on her. "You have to believe me, sis."
Jack's sister paused a moment, then smiled through her fear.
Jack returned her smile. With a playful tone, he said, "You wanna play a game? We're going to play Hopscotch! Like we play every day!" Emma looked more reassured. "It's easy as…one…whoa…!" Jack leapt his first leap, but he mugged. He almost lost his balance.
Katelynn caught her breath. "Please don't fall in…please don't fall in…" she whispered.
Jack caught himself. His sister laughed. "Two…" he jumped again to the side. "Three! Alright..." he reached for a stick next to him that had a hook shaped end. "Now it's your turn."
Emma looked down, trying to gather up her courage.
Jack, never breaking his gaze on her, said softly, "One…" Emma hopped, wobbling, but caught her balance. Jack smiled. "That's it, that's it…two…" She was almost there, Jack's staff just beyond her reach. "Three."
Emma grabbed hold of Jack's staff and in one massive effort, he slung her with all his might to safety. But the movement propelled him onto the cracked ice. He looks up to see his sister safe and smiled to see that she was. Emma returned his smile.
Katelynn made a sigh of relief.
Then there was a loud crack. Jack flailed. "Whoa!" the ice bellow him broke underneath him. As he fell, he made desperate eye contact with Katelynn. It was like he was asking her, "Why?"
"JACK!" Emma screamed as her brother plunged into the icy water. He never came back up.
"Oh, my God!" Katelynn gasped. She ran down the hill to the pond. She watched Emma run towards the cabin and inside it. She made her way to the pond's edge and almost stepped on it.
Chronos grabbed her. "Hold it, hold it!"
"No! Let me go! Let me go!" Katelynn screamed. She beat against Chronos' grip. "I need to help him! It's my fault!"
"Birna!" Chronos. "Stop. He's gone."
Katelynn stared at Chronos and screamed at him, "He's not gone!"
"Yes, he is! I should know!"
There was a long pause before Katelynn asked behind bubbling snot coming up her throat, "What was his name?" Hot tears were streaming down her face.
"Jackson Overland Frost." Chronos answered. "At night, he'll become only Jack Frost, the Guardian of Fun. Or in the legend, the Guardian of Winter, protector of Fun. Jamie Bennett is his many-greats-nephew. And Rapunzel is Jamie's many-greats grandmother."
Katelynn fell to her knees and whispered, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry…"
Chronos hauled her up to her feet. "Come on. We need to leave before someone else sees us."
'I killed Jack Frost...and almost his sister…'
Now do you guys understand why Jack doesn't like Katelynn very much? I hope you liked this chapter! Sorry it's been forever! DX
