Chapter 49: The Journey Back
A/n: This chapter will be a bit jumpy since I'm going to cover what Paige did and where she was after the cargo plane, just giving you guys a heads up
Paige's Pov-
On the cargo plane:
I was hitting my fists against the locked door but it was too hard to even make a dent.
I looked at Robin and saw him holding a fire axe trying to cut through the door, but I knew it was all in vain.
I looked at Robin and remembered how hard I had it was growing up without parents and I couldn't let his baby grow up without a father. "ROBIN, GET OUT OF HERE, YOU'R KID SHOULD HAVE A FATHER!" I shouted and Robin looked up to me and said "I'm sorry" then he ran.
I sat down on the floor holding my head in my hands, I didn't care what was going to happened to me I was just worried about Emily, I prayed that she'd be safe and find somewhere she could be safe, far away from A. I looked up and thought that Caleb must have left the plane I saw that the bomb was going to blow up in just a few seconds, then I looked out the plane windshield and leaned both my hands against it enjoying my final view, suddenly I felt a small crack in the windshield just under my left hand.
"It's just glass." I said and started to punch the windshield over and over again until I had smashed a hole in the glass, then the entire windshield got sucked away and I got pulled out from the plane and I was free falling.
This maybe wasn't such good idea, I reached for my cape to use it to break the fall and then I heard the plane explode behind me, I could feel the impact from the explosion and pieces of the plane started to fly past me, some of them were on fire.
I turned around in the air just to get hit in the head by some scrap metal, it grazed over my head and I felt its sharp edge cutting my forehead, even if it was for a split second it was incredibly painful. I tried to regain my focus to land safety but I heard a ripping sound from my cape, as it broke I had it harder to break my fall. Noticed the lake under me and then I crash landed onto some floating debriefs, the pain was unbearable. I tried to get back but once I put some weight on my left leg but I felt an explosive pain from my leg. Fuck, it's broken. I was laying no my stomach and tried to spot land.
"Oracle, come in." I said over the comm link. "Oracle? Robin? Emily?" I said but I only got statistics interference.
"Cheap piece of crap." I said as I tried to figure out where I was and more importantly where Rosewood was, I was just drifting in the water.
After a while I saw something that looked like a dock, I started to peddle with my arms so the floating debriefs I used as a raft would get closer to land.
It took a lot of energy and almost all my remaining arm strength until I finally had gotten ashore, I dragged myself of my raft and then I felt how tired I was, the last thing I saw was a blurry figure moving towards me. "Emily" I said then I passed out.
A few weeks later:
I woke up from something that felt like a horrifying nightmare, but I shortly remembered that what had happened on the plane had happened for real. I noticed I was in a dark room and I was in a bed, but I wasn't in my mansion. I tried to move but I felt a sharp pain in my leg.
I saw some light coming from the crack of the door and I could hear someone sing something.
"Hey ho! Hey ho!" I heard the voice sing.
"I struggled to get out of bed but I just fell onto the floor and once my leg hit the floor I screamed in pain and a girl ran into the room, she was very young, had brown hair, dark brown eyes and she didn't looked hostile.
"I see you're up" She said and smiled.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"My name is Sydney and I'm not working for A if that's what you think." She said and she walked up next to me.
"What are you doing?" I quickly asked.
"I'm helping you to bed." She answered and started to lift me and I used my other leg to balance myself as Sydney helped me back to bed.
"I found you on the dock and I knew A's men would kill you so I got you here to help you since now you're the only one that can stop A." She said. "Your suite was destroyed to I threw it." She continued.
"How bad are things now?" I asked
"A is holding the town hostage." Sydney said.
"What? How did that happened?" I asked shocked.
Sidney told me everything that had happened and as I heard what she said.
"I failed." I said.
"No, there is still a chance, everyone thinks Batgirl is dead and that gives you an advantage." Sidney said.
"No, I won't try again, I have fought A several times and failed, I tried to outsmart her and failed and now Batgirl is dead." I said.
"I know you don't think you can defeat A but you're stronger than you think, you've faced A and survived and she had to trick you into a plane and blow it up just to kill you. A is scared off you and if Batgirl showed herself A would panic." Sydney said as I leaned back in bed.
"But for now, you need to get your strength back." Sydney said and gave me a bowl of soup, I started eating the soup and Sidney started to sing.

"Ok, now I think you are just messing with me." I said when Sydney finished the song.
After the food Sydney went to get me some painkillers for my leg and it left me thinking about how I failed, I was supposed to stop A and everyone was doomed, I should never have been Batgirl I'm just a girl myself. The more I thought about what had happened when I had been asleep the more painful it got to stay awake.
"What's wrong?" Sydney asked.
"I can't be Batgirl anymore." I answered.
She looked disappointed at me and said. "Very well, but you should still stay here until your leg is better."
I wasn't sure on what I could do, I couldn't just walk up to Emily and say that I wasn't dead, I knew that she worried every time I was out being Batgirl and since I had been gone for a long time I was sure that I was declared dead.
A few weeks later:
As the days passed my leg got better and one day I went outside for the first time and what I saw was terrifying but I had no idea what I could do, I had lost my edge, that motivation that made me keep fighting A and now it was gone.
As I walked I went to the dock where Sydney had found me, then I saw someone sitting by the dock sitting down and crying, once I saw that it was Emily I hid since I couldn't let her see me like this.
I hid next to a building and moved close to Emily so I heard what she said.
"Paige, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." Emily said.
"I've tried to get over you, I've tried for months but I can't. I just… I love you too much." She continued then she dipped her head and cried.
"I love you to Emily." I whispered as I sat down and watched Emily cry, I lost track of time, it got dark and Emily was still crying and I was watching her, neither one of us had moved an inch.
Then Toby, Spencer, Hanna and Caleb appeared so I ran and hid a bit further away since I couldn't let them see me.
They were all talking to Emily then all of them ran and hide, I kept looking from where I was and saw a van approaching them. I saw that Emily wasn't running she was just standing still.
"Come on Em, run" I whispered but Emily didn't show any signs of running so I knew I had to do something, I grabbed a rusty nail and threw it at the van tire and I hit it perfectly and Emily suddenly ran into cover. I knew she was safe for now, but I stayed until the van had left just to make sure that Emily wasn't in any more danger.
Once the van was gone I ran to my mansion and went to the back side and looked at the tree I had carved mine and Emily's initials in. I thought back to when it had happened. I wished I had a time machine so I could return to that time and be with Emily. I suddenly heard someone approaching and I quickly climbed up the tree to hide.
I saw Emily walking up towards the tree.
"Oh Paige, why is it that even when you're not here you still protect me from A." Emily said as she sat down facing the tree.
"Paige, I can't go on like this, without you I feel empty. I miss you so much." Emily said and I looked and said "I miss you to." I said and then Emily looked up but I was fast to hide from her sight.
"Paige?" She said and I wanted to answer but it was like everything inside me struggled to make me quite.
Once Emily was back in my mansion I went back to Sydney's place and told her what had happened.
"It sounds to me that you want Emily to remain safe." Sydney said.
"Of course I do, I love her." I said.
"But why didn't you talk to her and let her know that you're alive?" Sydney said.
"I'm ashamed." I answered.
"Well, if she is a kind as you're saying she'll probably forgive you." Sydney said.
"Hey look" She suddenly said as she turned on her TV and it showed recordings from security cameras in rosewoods, on one Emily was, she was hiding in a bush as two of A's henchmen was walking towards her.
"Do something!" I said in panic and Sydney grabbed something that looked like a comm radio got a baby with an old radio, she sent out a fake S.O.S to the two henchmen that made them ran away from Emily.
"I have to get out there." I said.
"But you don't have your Bat suite." Sydney said.
"I don't care, Emily is in danger." I said and grabbed a black hoodie and pulled the hood down to cover my face.
"Wait, take this." Sydney said and handed me a bat rang.
I ran out the door and hurried to where I had last seen Emily. "Please Em, be ok." I said to myself as I ran as fast as I could until I reached the park where I had seen Emily hiding from those henchmen.
Ok here was the last time I had seen Emily where could she be now. I checked the ground for clues when I suddenly saw Emily, she was being chased by the same two henchmen that she was hiding from earlier.
I ran after them until they reached an alley I went in and saw the two men looking for Emily, that's when I snapped. I ran up to one of the men and tackled him to the ground, as he fell to the ground I started to punch him over and over again, the other draw his gun but I threw the bat rang Sydney had given me, it hit his hand so he dropped his gun. Once I was sure the first man was knocked out I ran up to the other man and I kicked him right on his mouth then I grabbed him by the collar and threw him onto some trashcans standing next to him. Both men were knocked out and Emily was safe.
I started to run as I her Emily crawling out from her hiding spot, I couldn't face her just yet but maybe the bat rang I left would give her some hope.
I ran back to Sydney's place and she looked at me like she was a fan girl. "I saw everything on the surveillance recording, you were awesome!" She said.
"I just wanted Emily to be safe." I said.
"The way you fought, it was like you were Batgirl once more." Sydney said.
"I just hope I'll be able to tell Emily that I'm alive." I said.
"Well, if you're half as good to talk as you are to fight I think you won't have any problems." Sydney said.
"Ok, but at first I need to get some rest, it feels like I've been up for an entire lifetime." I said and Sydney nodded.
The next night
I woke up and looked at the time, it was very late. I had slept past the entire day. Sydney walked in the room and looked very sad at me.
"Paige there is something I should tell you." She said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"It's A's men… they kidnapped your friends… they kidnapped Emily." Sydney said.
"What? How did that happened?" I asked in panic.
"They chased them down, but I've managed to track down where A's men brought your friends." Sydney said.
"They are going to kill your friends." She then said.
"Call the police." I said in panic.
"I can't, A has taken over everything the police can't do anything to help." Sydney said.
"There is only one who can do something." Sydney said and I knew that she was talking about Batgirl and I was about to tell her that I couldn't but then I thought about Emily and then I looked to Sydney.
"I'll do it." I said and then I left the room. "Where are you going?" Sydney asked as I run.
"I'm returning!" I yelled as I exit the building and ran to my mansion where I entered the bat cave and I walked up to my bat suites and picked up a mask.
"I'm back." I quickly got dressed and called Sydney or her phone. Once she gave me the location where Emily and the others were I jumped on my stealth bike, it had been a very long time since I had been riding it but once I was in my suite and started the bike it all came back to me.
I got to the building where my friends where and at first I used my grappling hock to get to the roof of the building where I found a henchman, he was facing away from me so I sneaked up behind him and once I got behind him I grabbed him by his neck and pushed him so he fell on his face, he rolled over to his back and looked up to me.
Once he noticed that I was Batgirl he had already given up.
"Where are the captives?" I asked.
"Down there." He answered and pointed at the glass window on the roof.
I put my foot on his chest she he knew he'd stay down. I looked down the window and saw that they were about to shoot Emily.
I quickly grabbed the henchman pulled him up to his feet still holding him by his jacket.
"Tell them Batgirl is coming." I said and threw the henchman through the window.
Once he had said what I told him to say I jumped down and first I knocked out the leader of this group with a punched in his gut, then I hit him in the face and finished with a kick to his stomach so he fell to the ground knocked out.
The other henchmen surrounded me but I could tell they were all scared and this was going to be an easy fight.
I ran up to one and hit him with an uppercut, then I quickly turned to the next and kicked his chest so he fell down, then I turned my attention to the last guy who was holding a lead pipe, he swing the pipe at me but I blocked his swing and then I elbowed the guy's nose so he lost his grip on the pipe. He grabbed his gun but I quickly threw a bat rang that made him lose his weapon and then I jumped into the air and punched his jaw as I landed knocking out the last one.
Once all those guys where defeated I turned my attention to Emily. I walked up to her and cut through the ropes. Emily got up to her feet and placed her hands on the sides of my face and we looked into our eyes, Emily was silently asking for permission to remove my mask. I nodded and Emily slowly lifted off the mask and I was still scared on how she was going to react since she had thought I was dead all this time.
