:The rust, will it ever leave me? Hi everyone! Before we get started I wanted to answer a question a reviewer left me, what inspired me to write such an obscure idea and piece of work that seems like it's a crack fic? For one, it was a request; many reviewers in the past had asked me to write a high-school fic and to tell the truth, I didn't want to. However, I wanted to try my hand at a comedy, weird fanfic even though I'm used to dark and mysterious ones with a complex plot. The thing that helped me actually do this fanfic was weird dreams I would have. I admit I am having fun with this fanfic but I am having complications with it as well. Many writers out there have already made High-school life based fanfics but I wanted mine to be extra weird and strange. I hope this answered your question, I am happy someone actually asked me this :) Anyway! Here's the next chapter, please enjoy! :
The curtains lowered slowly, the students cheering becoming dimmer as they flowed down gently onto the stage, hiding the royals and the principal behind their red thin walls. The four royals stood there, staring starstruck at the man in front of them. They were asking only 2 questions in their minds, why was he wearing the school uniform as well? And why on earth were all of them being used as a prize?!
"What just happened?" Malik asked, being the first to break the awkward silence that had enveloped the backstage area. Pegasus simply smiled and let out a sigh as he straightened his tie and turned around to face all four of them.
"I believe," He spoke, a hint of teasing in his voice. "That the Prince here chose The Extreme Standard Race event." He turned his dark eyes to Atemu, who at the moment was as shocked as the other three. Atemu wasn't surprised to know that there was a prize that had to do with him, but why did it have to involve the other three? Other then that, what kind of race was that? It sounded complicated and just plain awkward.
"Why are we all being used as a prize?" Seto questioned, finally snapping out of his shocked trance. "I am sure you are aware that Malik and I are not royalty." He crossed his arms, sending a menacing glare at the odd principal. Malik was just a friend of the royal family and he was the adviser of the royals, there was no reason for them to be in the race as a prize.
"Is that why you all look so shocked?" Pegasus questioned, surprise laid out in the tone. He lowered his eyes and shut them, raising a hand to his chin, thinking about what had been said. True, the adviser and friend were not royalty, but he would have thought that they would have been happy to participate as a prize. He knew that all four of the royals had someone they liked, ever since they went around the school they had a more glowing aura around them. After all, when you are in love you appear brighter than ever in front of others. He had already told the school that the four of them would be the prize, he wouldn't mind removing one but there had to be at least three...
"Very well." Pegasus spoke, clapping his hands together. "I will allow you, Mr. Kaiba." He gestured at Seto. "To not be a prize, but to just stand to the sidelines in a surveillance box and to have a spectacular view of the entire race!" Seto rose an eyebrow at this, stand to the sidelines? It sounded fine, he could keep an eye on everything and even make sure Atemu and Mana were doing what they were supposed to do. Malik took a step forward and pointed at himself.
"What about me?!" He asked. "I'm not a royal, I shouldn't be used as a prize!" Pegasus sighed and shook his head. He looked to Malik and shrugged.
"I apologize, but I simply cannot remove two of the prizes." He glanced at Seto. "I am only able to remove him as a prize due to the fact he is the adviser, you however, are still required to be one." Malik pouted and looked down. Mana felt bad for him, but she didn't think it was that big of a deal. From what she had heard from what the principal had said was that all they had to do was stand still and wait for the winner. And...to be used as a prize for that winner. Mana felt a shiver go down her back, she could still remember those lust filled gazes from the male students when she had first entered the school grounds. No doubt that those students would be trying their best to have a chance to be alone with her.
"I believe I should give you four a gift in turn for suddenly pulling this off on you..." Pegasus voiced, a smile now coming back onto his face. The four glanced at him. "I believe you remember that I mentioned that everybody must participate." The four nodded. "I noticed that all four of you have found yourselves someone that you like through my surveillance cameras that I have set throughout the school, it is simple to determine this due to the fact you all are quite different when around these students." The four royals blushed a bright pink color at this, where the hell had there been cameras?! Atemu panicked for a minute, did Pegasus see what he did to Yugi behind the stage? Would he chew him out for it? He hadn't yet, but he was still cautious.
"Do not worry, I will not voice who you are in love with." Pegasus said, raising a hand in a promise. "I swear, I am not the kind of man to do that." Seto blushed brighter and glared at him in anger.
"We are not in love with anyone!" He yelled out, his face heating up even more at this statement. The other three royals turned toward him in surprise while Pegasus just smiled at him and rose an eyebrow as if to say 'Is that so?'
"You out of everyone here," Pegasus chuckled. "are the most unconvincing of all, well excluding our own prince here." He gestured at Atemu with a hand. Atemu shrugged at that, he knew he was open with how he felt about Yugi. Heck, he had gotten down on his knees to kiss the boy's hand and even sung a love song with him, he didn't who knew. Everyone would know that they were meant to be anyway, after he won the bet at least. Pegasus smiled at him, royals in love were amusing to watch. Seto just flushed brighter and turned his head, he was not in love, he hadn't spoken to Joey yet! How could he be in love with someone he hadn't spoken to?! Stupid, weird principal...
"Any who..." Pegasus resumed. "Since there will now be three tracks, I will allow you three," He made a wide gesture to Mana, Malik, and Atemu. "To pick one student to be forced into your race. Everyone else in the school, however, will be able to choose the one they wish to enter." He looked to Seto. "Since you will standing to the sidelines in a surveillance box alone, I will allow you to choose a student to be in there with you for the whole duration of the race. And since you seem to be in denial." Seto glared at him, biting his tongue to force himself not to go off on the man. "You will be able to have a lunch alone with them as well." The royals blinked in confusion, they were allowed to choose one person to be forced into their race? Mana looked to her brother, knowing he'd choose Yugi. But Yugi seemed to hate Atemu, wouldn't he throw the race? She rose a hand up, Pegasus smiled warmly at her and nodded in her direction.
"Mr. Pegasus, but what if the person we choose decides to throw the race?" She questioned, crossing her arms. "If what you say is true about being able to see who we love, then you know that Atemu's crush does not seem to like him much, it is obvious that he will not try to win." Pegasus closed his eyes and chuckled.
"Yes, I know." He spoke. "But, I know my students like the back of my hand. I know for a fact that Yugi and his friends," Pegasus reopened his eyes and narrowed them in amusement as all the royals felt sweat roll down their backs, Pegasus knew that they were into Yugi's group. He had seen them and how they acted around the people in it, that's great... "Hate to fail classes. If I simply tell the school that if you do not try your best you will fail the semester, I assure you that they will have a very high chance at winning." Malik looked down, feeling nervous all of a sudden, how the heck did this guy know that Yugi's group of friends were good at races? He's just the principal!
"And how in the world do you know that they have a high chance at winning?" Atemu questioned, crossing his own arms as he narrowed his eyes. Pegasus smiled at him, causing Atemu to feel a shiver down his spine, that smile was beyond creepy!
"Because, your highness." He chuckled and reopened his eyes before he winked at the freaked out prince. "Like I had said before, I know my students like the back of my hand." He put his hands together and smiled. "I have always wanted to have a close friendship with all of my students, I do not want to be just their principal. I want to be someone they can rely on, a friend, a parent, anyone to help them when they need me. So I take time out of my day throughout the school year to talk to each and everyone of them almost everyday." He put his hands at his sides. "Our school students are based on trust to the staff, it makes life better here. So, please do not doubt my knowledge on the students here." Seto couldn't help but feel surprised and even kind of happy at the fact that a principal cared so much for their students. Those were rare, and he really did seem to love them. Perhaps he had been too hard on him...But telling him if he was in love or not was not something he wanted to know.
"Now enough of my rambling." Pegasus smiled and let out an awkward laugh. He looked at all of the royals, catching all of their eyes with his own.
"Who shall you choose?"

"So, anyone good at running?" Joey asked, breaking the silence amongst the four friends at the lunch table. They had been there for around an hour or more and all they had done was get something to eat and talked a little. And it didn't even relate to the event that was going to be happening soon! Didn't they care about the race? He never liked to be athletic, but he sure the heck wouldn't lose! Anzu rose her eyes to Joey, her hands holding the roses. She had been rearranging them within the bouquet and letting her fingers play with the petals, they were silk smooth in-between her fingertips.
"Yugi's pretty fast if I remember correctly." Anzu told him, returning her attention to her roses. They really were beautiful, and she enjoyed flowers far more then talking about running or races, she wasn't that bad of a runner. But she didn't know how to drive a car! What the heck was with the last part of the race anyway? What if someone had a crash?! Yugi looked to Anzu, his eyes forcing themselves away from the notebook in his hands. He could now tell his friends everything that was needed in the cake recipe, now he just needed to memorize how to make it. He always studied things like this one part at a time, it was easier and more fun this way.
"I guess I am but,"Yugi gestured to Bakura with his notebook. "Bakura's better at driving a car." You needed to run, you needed to roll down a hill, and you needed to drive a car. Great, Yugi rolled his eyes at the thought of the dumb race. He knew how to drive, his grandfather had taught him, he actually was pretty good at running, but rolling down a hill on a scooter? Why was the scooter needed? And what kind of scooter was it, the only kind of scooter he knew of was the ones they used in elementary school! Wouldn't it be plain silly to ride down on one of those things? Bakura took a bite of a Tuna sandwich he had gotten and grumbled back in response, he didn't care about the damned race. He leaned back in his chair, placing his feet on the table, for once, Yugi didn't nag at him for being impolite.
"Yeah, but I loathe running." He mumbled out, swallowing before he spoke so Yugi wouldn't get on him. He took another bite as he thought of the race. He was great at driving, he hated running though. He never liked doing anything athletic at all, if anything he'd throw the race and hope that he wouldn't get in trouble for it.
"You guys think we're gonna be able to choose which royal we wanna race for?" Joey asked, trying to start a conversation about the race. Bakura glared at him and shot himself forward, removing his feet from the table and straightening himself up in his seat. He rested his arms on the table.
"They better let us or I'm not participating." Bakura hissed out, taking a harsh bite of his sandwich and finishing it. He swallowed the bite and growled. "I'll be damned if I have to race for that stupid blond royal." Anzu chuckled at the statement as she remembered Bakura running away from Malik the other day, it had been an interesting show.
"If I would run for anyone, I'd run for the brown headed guy." Bakura admitted. "He seems like a guy who'll just eat and try to get the hell out of the place before I'm even done, which is exactly how I like it." Joey couldn't help but agree with him. Seto looked like the kind of guy who would eat and leave, without even saying a word. Bakura seemed like he just wanted a free meal if anything.
"I'd run for the blonde one, like I said before." Joey smiled. "He's kind of cute." Bakura felt a sting in his chest and his stomach feel funny at those words, was the tuna in his sandwich bad? He doubted it, the school food was always topnotch. He shrugged at him and made a gesture with his hand.
"You can have him, I hope he clings to you." Bakura grumbled, he couldn't help but feel slightly angry at Joey. What the hell was wrong with him? Joey laughed and nodded at him.
"Yeah, thanks." Joey chuckled and winked. "I'll take care of him." Bakura forced a small laugh, he didn't feel right at the thought of Joey with Malik. Odd, but he still blamed the tuna. Joey looked at Yugi. "What about you, Yugi?"
Yugi looked up at Joey with a risen eyebrow. What made him think he even wanted to participate? Well, you have to. He cursed Pegasus for a minute before he simply sighed and shrugged.
"Dunno, since you guys chose Malik and Seto." Yugi said, his eyes memorizing the page he was studying. "I'll choose Mana." Anzu turned toward him quickly, shocked that he would run for Mana. Did Yugi like her? No, the other two had chosen the other two royals so it left Yugi with Mana or Atemu, which means he would obviously choose Mana. Anzu sighed with relief at her thoughts, she didn't know why, but Yugi with Mana pained her heart. She was just overprotective of her friend, she guessed.
"That leaves the prince with Anzu." Joey laughed, causing Anzu to blush brightly. Race for Atemu? She wouldn't mind, and it could give her a chance to get closer to him and to see if she could convince him to like her. But, he might just use that time to ask her more about Yugi. So, she wasn't sure if she would want to race for him.
"Why don't you guys just use their names?" Yugi asked, removing his eyes from his notebook again. "You guys always say the blonde one or the brown headed one, why don't you guys just say their names?" Bakura rolled his eyes.
"Because we can't memorize their names like you and Anzu." Bakura answered. "And we also aren't around them a lot, from what I saw from you and Malik. You two seemed pretty close."
"Now that I think about it," Joey thought, adding himself to the conversation again. "You and the princess chick were pretty friendly and the brown headed guy didn't seem to hate you." Yugi rose an eyebrow, did he really seem like he got along with them? It was true, he preferred Atemu's friends over Atemu himself, but saying he was really friendly and close with them was an exaggeration. He hadn't spent much time with the royals at all.
"Maybe if you guys studied more often, you would be used to memorizing things easier." Anzu scolded, glaring at Bakura and Joey. The boys cringed over the glare and looked away. Bakura studied, and what was she talking about?! She didn't study much either! She was just good at memorizing names! He was about to say this, if he wasn't interrupted by the loud noise in the ceiling...
"Please return to the Auditorium in 10 minutes. I repeat; Please return-"
"Please return to the Auditorium in 10 minutes, blah blah blah." Bakura mocked, moving his head and making a weird voice. His friends laughed at this as they all made their move to stand up. They began to walk side by side out to the exit of the cafeteria, all of the students thinking of one sentence.
Were they going to be able to choose who they race for?
()()()()()()()()()()
When Yugi entered the auditorium with everyone, the curtains were already drawn and the bright numbers were counting down and were almost to 0:00:00. He looked at the stage, the royals looking as they did before. Confident and elegant, exactly how royalty was supposed to look. Pegasus stood in the center of all the royals, smiling as he witnessed the entry of the students and even waved and greeted some of them. The royals, from what Yugi could see, looked pleased with themselves. After all, what else could a smirk from Atemu's face mean? Everyone was smiling, but Atemu was smirking and Yugi could hear the squealing from the girls around him just from looking at him.
"What're they so cheery about?" Bakura questioned harshly under his breath. Joey was wondering the same thing, Seto wasn't smiling, but he looked more happy in a sense. His face wasn't as tight and he seemed more calm, Joey blinked in surprise as he noticed all these features. How could he see that from here? He was all the way in the back of the auditorium!
Anzu let out a gasp as a large buzzer sounded off and rung in her ears, she put her hands to her ears in an effort to block out the sound. It didn't help at all, she was relieved when the buzzer finally shut up.
"Welcome back!" Pegasus welcomed as he spread out his arms. "It is time for us to retreat to the back of the school, where this event shall take place! But, before we do this. I must tell you a few things before we head off." The students talked amongst themselves, asking one another if they knew what he was talking about.
"Seto Kaiba, the royal adviser shall not be a prize any longer, due to his personal request." Pegasus announced, hearing the aw's and complaints from some of the students. "But! He has chosen one student to watch the race with him and to even have lunch with!" The students began to cheer. "Not only has he chosen a student, but the other royals have chosen one student that must take part in their race! Everyone who is not chosen, is allowed to choose the one they wish to race for." Yugi's eyes widened, he didn't have to know who Atemu chose. He knew Atemu would choose him, but there could that slight chance that he could pick Anzu. He darted his eyes to Anzu, who at the moment, looked as shocked as the rest of the people in his group. He prayed that Atemu chose Anzu...
"Now, we shall allow the royals to voice exactly who they chose to participate in their race!" Pegasus gestured to Mana. "Ladies first, princess." Mana nodded at him with a smile and took a step forward. She moved her eyes around, searching for who she chose. She smiled as she noticed a spike haired child and just knew that the one she chose would be near that kid. Pine green eyes locked with sky blue ones, and Mana felt a warmth envelop her heart before she smiled brightly.
"I choose Anzu Mazaki." She spoke clearly, narrowing her eyes and smiling sweetly at Anzu. The audience let out cheers and some disappointed aws as Yugi 's group widened their eyes and the boys in it turned them toward their female friend. Anzu clutched the roses tightly to her body, holding them as she rose one hand to her mouth, hiding her gaped lips. No way...Mana couldn't help but smile wider when she noticed that Anzu held pink roses in her arms, she was glad she liked them. She stepped back, nodding at Pegasus to continue.
"Your highness, if you may." Pegasus said, gesturing to Atemu. Atemu nodded, dropping his smirk and reverting it to a smile. He took a step forward and directed his eyes to Yugi, he could spot him easily due to his looks. Who could miss those beautiful amethyst orbs of his? Crimson met amethyst, the crimson being sweet and playful, the amethyst being hateful and embarrassed.
"I have chosen Yugi Mutou." Atemu announced with a wink. The female audience members squealed and groaned at the choice, being sad and yet happy at the same time. Yugi just clutched his fists in anger as he glared up at the flirtatious royal, damn him! Yugi had to make sure he threw the race, he couldn't win! If he won, he didn't know what would happen if him and Atemu were alone again. He's adorable when he is angered, Atemu thought, he was tempted to blow the boy a kiss. But instead simply stepped back and nodded at Pegasus.
"Malik." Pegasus spoke, smiling and touching Malik on the shoulder to gain his attention. Malik smiled brightly and nodded quickly before he stepped up, trying not to hop. He was excited, he couldn't wait to see his choice do his best for him! He looked around for his white haired god and nearly cheered when he found him and gained his eyes on his own.
"I choose Bakura Shi!" Malik said cheerfully, he giggled and waved at Bakura as he mouthed the word 'Kura at him. Bakura's cheeks turned a bright pink at that and began to growl at the choice, he did not just do a stupid cutesy wave at him! The idiot looked like a moron. Anzu could barely restrain her giggles at the choice, it was obvious that Yugi was trying not to do the same. Joey was left out on the joke, all he knew was that Bakura hated the guy. Malik took his hand and blew a kiss out to Bakura, which instead, began to cause the crowd to cheer for him as if he had blown a kiss to them instead. Bakura turned his head and forced his face to cool down, stupid idiot... Malik took a step back and nodded at Pegasus.
"Now, Mr. Kaiba." Pegasus smiled at Seto, Seto glared at him. "It is time for you to announce who you have chosen to watch the race with and to eat with." Seto couldn't control the slight shade of pink on his face that made the girls in the crowd go wild. Apparently they thought he was cute! He grunted and took a step forward, crossing his arms. He looked around, searching for the adorable blonde. He narrowed his eyes, trying to look intimidating as he found him.
"I have chosen Joey Wheeler." The crowd gasped but began to cheer at the choice. Only Joey was surprised, everyone else in the group knew that Seto liked Joey. Bakura heard from Yugi, Anzu had heard from Malik, and Yugi was there when Seto had first met Joey. Joey's face turned pink as he looked up at the stage at Seto. He looked like he didn't care! Didn't he know what he had just done? He just chosen to basically go on a date with him! Joey wanted to scream at him, and he nearly did if it wasn't for the fact Pegasus took a step forward and began to speak.
"The royals have chosen and now..." Pegasus closed his eyes and smiled brightly.
"Let us head outside!"
:That was totally unexpected...Not! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter I worked very hard! Please review!:
