CHAPTER 14
"Read that again please?" Starfire asked. Her brain had a hard time wrapping itself around what it had just heard. Not because it was one of those common instances where she did not understand the vernacular of her earthling friends, it was something more this time, it was almost as if she didn't want to believe it.
Cyborg's computer read off the results again but it didn't change anything for Starfire. Cyborg put his head down at the repetition of the results.
"I still do not understand." Starfire remarked choking back tears.
"He's gone rogue Star, Robin has switched sides on us just like Ne'gan." Cyborg spoke softly as he felt his chest tightening, He crouched down in a catchers stance and stared at the floor. Bee stood next to him and placed her hand on his shoulder. Cyborg stared at the floor of museum in stunned rage. He started to think of all the memories he and Robin had together. All the good times of stopping evil, saving the world and most of all looking out for each other. They had their disagreements but Robin was always the guy that would never turn his back on what was right. He was always the guy that stood for it and would die to defend it.
What could possibly make him do this? The more Cyborg thought about, the worse the anger and confusion became. His train of thought was thankfully interrupted by the sounds of the team discussing what could have happened.
"I refuse to believe that Robin or Night- what the fuck his name is turned on us to work with miss martian." Speedy remarked.
"Either way look at the proof." Aqualad retorted.
"Garth, what do you mean?" Speedy asked.
"He disappears, breaks up with Star, no one hears from him after Gar's death, now he shows up with the person involved with his death and kidnaps Raven you refuse to believe it?" The tension was starting to build in the room.
"I'm sorry that I don't want to give up on a friend that we trained with and oh I don't know, SAVED COUNTLESS OF LIFES AND SACRIFICED SO MUCH MORE WITH." Speedy started to move towards Aqualad and get in his face.
"Amigos por favor." Mas y Menos called out.
"Friends please this will solve nothing." Starfire tried to insert herself between the two of them to stop the confrontation.
"Roy wake up, this isn't even the first time Robin has switched sides, he worked for Slade now he's working for someone that is clearly pulling the strings behind the murder of Beast Boy, the defection of double m and now the capture and undoubtable death of Raven." Speedy shoved Aqualad.
"Then maybe instead of running your mouth fish boy and trying to play counselor to Raven, to actually try to save someone for once." Bumblebee rose to her feet and tried to help separate the two.
"Guys please this isn't going to help, enough that's an order."
"Fuck that this kid needs his ass kicked." Speedy shoved Bee out of the way and dropped his bow and arrow.
"You've been running your mouth about Raven for months and now that Beast boy is dead, you magically care about her and want to counsel her? You're doing this to get yourself laid." Aqualad charged at Speedy which created a dog pile on to the floor. Speedy managed to roll himself on to Aqualad and land a few quick shots to his face. Starfire ripped him up into the air and flew above the group with him. He managed to wiggle free and land to the ground to be meted with an uppercut from Aqualad, sending him back into the wall. Speedy regained his balance to finally get a square up with him but it was interrupted by Cyborg screaming and grabbing the both of them by their shirt collars and lifting them up off of the ground.
"ENOUGH." The air left the room as Cyborg put the two of them back on the ground.
"Do you guys really think that this is going to help anything? You two fighting like a couple of bitches in here, is that going to help us get Raven back or figure out what is going on with our dead friend?" Speedy cleared his throat to Cyborgs rant.
"Look man, I'm sorry but that had to be said."
"Yeah I'm sorry too." Aqualad muttered.
"Your apologies don't mean dog shit to me right now, the only thing that matters is Starfire and I rescuing what is left of our friends." BumbleeBee was shocked at this.
"Wait Vic, what do you mean?" Cyborg turned away from them.
"You guys are our friends but this is our fight, Beastboy was our friend, Raven is our friend and Robin was our leader. We were all friends with Ne'gan but this is very personal. Whoever is behind this is going to pay at my hands for what they have done to my family, my team and I think for Starfire here when I say that it is something that we need to do."
Starfire stepped up and placed a hand on Cyborgs shoulder.
"Yes I agree." Cyborg and Starfire stared into each other's eyes. Starfire continued.
"We will not lose Raven, we will save Robin and we will avenge Beastboy by taking the martian and whoever she is working for down, we have no other choice but to protect our friends and do what is right." Starfire began to shed a tear. Bumblebee stepped up next to the two of them.
"We have you're guys back if you need us." Cyborg hugged her and the rest of the team joined in a very tight knit group hug. Once the group separated, Cyborg took the lead of the conversation.
"We'll be in touch with you guys when we need you." The titans east began to leave the room. Cyborg and Starfire looked at each other with complete exhaustion and emotional despair.
"Friend, what do we do now?" Starfire asked.
Cyborg pulled up a holographic projection of a map from his arm to reveal a red dot being tracked across the subway line of jump city.
"I've got a beat on Raven, her titans communicator is still active and it looks like she's underneath the post office on 34th if we hurry we can-." Cyborg's voice was cut off as he fell backwards to the ground due to lack of power.
"Friend we need rest, please we can continue tomorrow." Starfire began to carry Cyborg out of the building. Up in the corner of the room, the dark shadow began to manifest and communicate.
"Mother the plan worked, I shall return." The shadow then disappeared out of the window into the night sky.
