Fuseiseki : Failure
Chapter Nineteen : The Ghosts, They Sing
...
It couldn't be real. It couldn't be. In all the years he'd fought, after all the blood he'd seen, never could he have imagined how empty he'd feel when she was gone. It was an inescapable black hole, swallowing his heart and all that came with it. Her eyes were still open. Still that deep and beautiful blue. But they were unseeing. The blood was sticky on his fingers. He ran a hand over her pale face to close her eyes and spread it across her skin.
Milliardo was screaming for Rashid, the best doctor they had... But he knew. Even though this felt like a dream, Relena was really gone. He had failed the first mission he'd ever really cared about. He'd every really given himself. She'd taken her life by her own hands. The gun was beneath him. He could feel the metal touching his shin. It felt like it was burning a hole in his skin. Rashid entered the room out of breath, his eyes widening at what he saw.
His fists clenched in the dress she wore. The dress that was now stained with the blood from her fatal wound, and for the first time ever in Hiiro Yui's life that he could remember, he laid his face on her chest, and let the tears flow. He was barely aware of Wufei's strong arms pulling him away from her prone body. But when he opened his eyes they were on her and only her.
Rashid was checking for a pulse. He shook his head sadly. From his perspective, it was as if someone had taken a remote and pressed mute. There was no sound, only her still body, and her true red blood. He watched numbly as Quatre, tears running down his face, sat next to the body of the prone Sanq Queen. His hands trembling, he brought the computer of Mercury into existence, his forehead blazing with the sigils of Mercury and Neptune so bright the room was covered in a myriad of their light.
"Relena." His voice was broken. The Arabian then laid both trembling hands on her chest, whispering. "Return what rightfully belongs to Serenity, Usagi, Goddess of the Stars. This servant of Mercury Commands it." There was a glow beneath his fingers, soft and white, and a crystal melted through Relena's skin and clothes. When it was safe in Quatre's palm, Hiiro looked at Relena's prone form again. It would have looked like nothing was wrong, save the deep pool of blood beneath her. The blood that stained her face.
All this, for what looked like a palm sized diamond. Beautiful, but worthless by his comparison. Quatre clutched it in his shaking hands, and Hiiro watched with empty eyes as a figure formed on the other side of Relena, kneeling next to the girl, her eyes wise and sad. She did not look up at any of them, but spoke as she brushed a ghostly hand over Relena's cheek.
"Forgive me." She said, and then she looked up, at the occupants of the room. Her hair was white, done in odangos on each side, and trailing to the floor. Though she was so ghostly she looked as if she would seep through the cracks, her eyes were a solid, sad, grey blue. "I would never have wanted it this way."
"And yet my sister lies there, dead on the floor." Milliardo's voice was hard, and the woman flinched at the tone.
"One life for billions." The woman whispered. "A choice no one should have to make. I wonder sometimes, how things went so wrong. When I sent my dear Serenity to Earth to be reborn, I wished them only happiness. It was my folly to think that Serenity's power would be ignored. My mistake to think they'd all be left alone." She sighed, and brushed absently at Relena's hair. Though she was no more than a ghostly image, it moved with her touch. "I had hoped there would be no more death... but all that's left now is a trail of blood."
"You are Queen Selenity." Duo said. Hilde was in his arms, her face buried in his chest. The ghostly figure nodded, slowly.
Hiiro found his voice. "You told her she had to die. You told her it was the only way." His fists were clenched. The anger was rising in him. "Why?"
"Because it was the only way." She said. Her voice was soft and sad. "The only way to save this world. To save my daughter from a fate worse than death. You may hate me for it. She may hate me for it. But it was what had to be done. If Chaos reigns, not only this world will die, but all others after it. This one life. This one life has guaranteed the safety of life everywhere." She turned her eyes to Hiiro, her gaze not wavering in the slightest. "I'm sorry to have caused you so much pain. You don't deserve it. None of you do. But it was the only way."
"So what do we do now?" Duo asked. "We have the crystal, and Chaos still has Usa."
"Chaos will come to you." Queen Selenity said. "Once he feels the power of the crystal, which no doubt will be soon, he will have no choice. He is as drawn to it as my daughter is." She brushed the face of Relena one last time, sad and sorrowful. "And now I must take my leave. I am sorry for the pain I so unwittingly caused. Know that the moon smiles down on you all. Perhaps... I can aid you yet in your quest."
And then she was gone, simply fading out of existence. Quatre stood, slowly, and turned to face Hiiro. In his hand, the Ginshinzou pulsed. "Will you take it?" Quatre asked. "Will you protect it as you did Relena?" Hiiro wanted to curse him for his words. The blond knew just how to pull him in. He had failed one mission. He did not intend to fail another.
"Mission accepted." He took the pulsing gem from Quatre. It was warm in his palm. His key reacted to it immediately, glowing cherry blossom pink and shaking beneath his clothes. He could feel the eyes on him as he drew it from behind his shirt, and laid in atop the Ginshinzou in his hand. It flashed once, so bright he had to look away, and when he looked back, his key had changed. Instead of being silver, the key was now made of crystal, studded with the two gems of his guardian planets.
"Good." Quatre said, but he did not sound happy. He looked down at the still body of Relena, blinking slowly and taking a deep breath before speaking again. "There are many things to be taken care of. Milliardo, you must find a way to explain the absence of the Queen. At this moment news of her death would hurt us rather than help us. She shall have a decent burial when this is over."
"It will be over soon." Wufei's fists were both clenched. "If Chaos is coming to us, as that Onna said, we must prepare for war."
"I'm so there." Duo said. There was no smile to accompany it, just a grave agreement. A solid resolve.
"The Gundams are ready and waiting." Noin said. She stood in Milliardo's embrace. He held onto her like she was a lifeline, his eyes cold. "As are Four Talgeese. I expect you will be flying with us, Hilde, Sally?"
Duo opened his mouth to protest, as did Wufei, but Sally held up a hand. "Don't boys. Please. You know we can handle those machines nearly as well as you can. We won't be left behind in this fight." Duo snapped his mouth closed, and Wufei had it in him to look ashamed.
"Rashid, please take Miss Relena to be cleaned and dressed. I trust you and Lana will keep her well when we are at war." Quatre's voice belied the tears that were still in his eyes.
Rashid bowed low, and Hiiro saw Milliardo visibly wince when the strong magunac lifted Relena into his arms. "She will be treated with the utmost care and respect, Master Milliardo." He said, looking at the Prince of Sanq, before turning and carrying his charge away. Hiiro stared at the blood she left behind, then at the one who had been his rival for so long.
Milliardo could only nod, words lost to him. Hiiro wondered, if the black hole had swallowed his heart too.
"I know this is hard. But Relena gave what she thought she must so we could win this fight. And we will win this fight." Quatre's voice was strong, though he still visibly shook. He sighed, and the visor that fed him the information his computer collected vanished. "We must all prepare. Meet me in the conference room in two hours."
There was no answer. No one really knew what to say. For a moment, they all stood there in silence. Then, slowly, Quatre took Trowa's hand and led him away, and Wufei and Sally followed, as well as Noin, Catherine, Millardo, Duo and Hilde. When they were gone, Hiiro slumped into a chair that was behind him, his eyes still on the blood that stained the floor.
He touched the key around his neck absentmindedly, and it pulsed as he did so, warm, perhaps trying to comfort him? This was a piece of Usagi that he held close to him, but looking at the blood and back at the key, he didn't see the trade as fair. A bright light snuffed out by one that was even brighter... this was the way of war. Would all light be snuffed out by the coming dark? It was their job to make sure that did not happen. With strength that stemmed only from a resolve to finally end this... he stood, and walked slowly up to stairs to his room, to wash the blood off of his hands.
Later, though he had sat under the water for 45 minutes or more, he swore he could still see it.
...
Even with all the barriers Chaos had put up to keep her from them, she still felt it. Perhaps because it was a wave that enveloped them all, one of supreme sadness, grief, anger. It nearly stopped her heart it was so strong. For a moment, she forgot how to breathe. When she remembered again, her breath came out in short gasps.
A light had faded from existence. And from it a new light had been born. The light of the power she'd been looking for since she'd landed on this Earth. Her Ginshinzou. She knew not who had passed. The feelings that came to her were a rush, but every single one was from her knights. She sighed in half-relief just to feel them. Though their hearts were aching, they were all alive. Who then, had left them? Noin or Milliardo? Relena, Sally, or Catherine? It could be any of them, or none at all. She hoped for the latter. Hoped their sadness was because of something else, but she had seen the light fade in her mind's eye. She chose consciously to keep her faith, and her hope.
She had expected that Chaos would appear when he did. She had been sitting at the vanity of her bedroom cell. He appeared behind her, his arms wrapped loosely around her shoulders. She looked up at him in the mirror, trying to keep from her features her relief.
"And so the Ginshinzou makes its appearance." He breathed in her ear. She shuddered; it could not be contained when he was so near. "I was wondering where you were hiding it, Sweet Serenity."
His blood red eyes looked amused. "Or weren't you hiding it at all? So cruel are the fates to you, to keep the only power capable of defeating me from your grasp. It won't be long before I hold it in mine."
"The Ginshinzou will never be tainted by someone like you." She spit. He responded by taking her chin in a tight grasp, and whispering in her ear.
"But I have you my sweet. And that alone shall do. Kione, Vega!" The twins appeared a moment after he called their names. Kione was smiling. Vega looked as dull as ever. "Prepare the troops. Tomorrow we rid this world of its protectors, one by one."
The twins nodded and disappeared. "Is there some hope left in you, My Dear?" He whsipered in her ear again. "That perhaps this battle will be won? That you will stand before me with the crystal and save the day?"
His fingers were tight on her jaw, but she spoke, her tone harsh. "As long as I am alive I will fight." She said. "And my friends beside me. As long as we draw breath you must keep looking behind you. Whatever made you think we'd give up easily?"
(Warning : This Part is definitely for the Mature.)
"Ah Serenity." Chaos said, and his smile was beautiful and horrible in the mirror. "You giving up easily would make it no fun for me. None at all." He turned her face to his, lifting her up off the chair and into his arms easily. With one arm tight around her waist and the other still on her jaw, he kissed her hard, biting at her lip as she tried to shake him off.
"I expect you to fight every second, every moment." He whispered, and his voice was heavy with lust. Holding her head up, he trailed his tongue down her neck, tasting her. "Every touch." She squirmed, but it did no good. He was much stronger than she was, after so long trapped in the dark of his castle. In an effort to keep him away, she pulled at the power she had, disappointed when all that changed was her hair and her eyes. It fell in waves to the ground, and Chaos smiled.
"Did you really think I wouldn't take precautions against you transforming here?" he asked. "Oh Serenity, how you amuse me. Though I must admit you are even more beautiful with your long silver waves, your glorious silver eyes." He carried her to the bed and threw her upon it, and she could not help the fear that was in her heart.
"Are you afraid?" He asked, and chuckled. "You should be. For I think now, before the battle that will end the lives of your foolish friends, I should consummate with my Queen."
"Don't touch me." She spit.
Chaos removed his shirt. He was a perfect example of a beautiful male, his abs taut, and his skin creamy and begging to be touched. "Try and stop me."
She raised her hands to hit him, push him away, anything, but he merely grabbed them and trapped her beneath him, his muscles flexing as she fought. When her strength had all but drained away, he laid a soft kiss on her collarbone, smiling. "Spent already?" He asked.
With one hand he held her down, her breath labored. "You are so beautiful My Serenity. Especially when you fight me so uselessly." With the other hand he ripped her dress at her bosom, and he stared at her full chest with hungry eyes. He moved his hand then to lift her dress to her waist, letting it roam where it would.
She could not help the tears that ran from her eyes. Not this. She pleaded to no one, for no one could hear. Anything but this. She had endured so much. She could only watch as he flicked a finger, and chains snaked towards her limbs, her hands and feet, holding her there for him. They seemed to be attached to nothing, but when she pulled at them, they did not budge.
He ripped the dress from her and now she was completely nude, with nothing to cover her, under his hungry gaze. "Lovely." She winced when he ran his fingers over her stomach, scratching at her with sharp nails. The blood that beaded up only excited him more.
He snapped his fingers and the light in the room shut off, lit candles floating into existence so that when she looked at him, his face was a canvas of flickering light and soft shadow. "Finally, My lovely Serenity, you shall be wholly mine."
His eyes blazed with his full power, a blinding red in the otherwise dark room, and though she fought it with all her might, he invaded her mind easily. *I was saving this for my victory, but I suppose it will be just as sweet right now.* She found herself unable to fight him. Slowly, the struggling stopped, and she stilled. *You will be mine whether you like it or not. Though I do admit your struggle arouses me more... your compliance will make this more enjoyable for both of us.*
The chains slinked away, and she did not move, but in her mind she was screaming. The part of her that was still Usagi, that was beyond his control, shuddered as he ran his fingers over her skin, his eyes still glowing with his power, and she responded with an excited gasp.
*Say you want me.* He ran his fingers over her, unbuttoning his pants and dropping them to reveal just how aroused he was. He climbed over her, his hands touching, his mouth tasting.
"Chaos..." She was trying so hard to fight the desire he'd planted in her. It wasn't working. "Don't..."
He smiled, and gave her a deep kiss, and she felt her resolve weakening under his power. When he pulled away, he looked right into her eyes, and spoke aloud. "Don't what? My Sweet Queen?"
She felt her body arch beneath him, no longer under her own control, but his, and heard herself say the words even as she fought to stop them. "Don't Stop."
He laughed, and the sound was pleasant, something that made her tingle from head to foot. The part of her that was still Usagi weeped, and the body Chaos held in his grasp moaned in pleasure as he took her.
...
"Everything is prepared." Quatre said. He was tired. Retrieving the crystal had burned away at his energy. Trowa sat next to him in the conference room, and all were present. Even Catherine, who would not fight, but worried for the people she resided with, Trowa most of all. "The Gundams are ready, as are various other mobile dolls we have in our service."
"All the troops we have are being sent towards the Moon as we speak." Milliardo said. His voice was devoid of any emotion. This too, was draining the Arabian Pilot. Though he tried to ignore it, tried to get past it, the emotions swirling in the room were powerful. Though Milliardo sounded indifferent, his heart was split in two. "Better to fight where there will be no civilian casualties."
Quatre opened his palm, and the visor that came with his computer appeared, with the keyboard. "Chaos is following our lead. The masses of dark energy that were in Japan are moving as well."
"How long until we leave?" Wufei asked. Sally looked just as tired as Quatre felt, beside him. In fact they all looked drained. He supposed it was hard not to feel this way, due to current circumstances.
"Two hours." Quatre said. He looked out the window, into the dark of the night, no morning. It would be morning soon. It mattered not, in space, all was dark and cold. "Two hours before we fight for all the lives on Earth. Chaos has proven he cares little for life. He destroyed L4 with no provocation."
"It will be a hard battle." Trowa said.
"Yes." Hilde said, her voice was soft.
"But one we will win." Duo said. "Shinigami rises again." He smiled, but it did not reach his eyes. His hand found the key at his throat, and he raised it. The colors of his guiding planets shone with intensity. "For Relena, and Usagi."
Following suit, each night raised their key as well, and the room was suddenly covered in a rainbow of lights. "For Relena and Usagi." They all repeated.
When the light had died, there were more figures than there should be in the room. Standing behind each Pilot at their seats, was the ghostly figure of a two Sailor Scouts. And behind Hiiro was Mamoru, with Chibi-Usa in his arms.
"Whoa." Duo said. "Hey babes." Sailor Venus laughed into her hand.
"Hey Duo." She said when her giggle had ceased. "Bet you're wondering what we're doing here."
"Yeah, I kinda am." He said. She laughed again.
"We are here." Sailor Mars said, rolling her eyes at Sailor Venus. "By the grace of Our Queen's Mother."
"Perhaps I can aid you yet." Quatre said. "So that's what she meant. But I don't understand. We already have the Sailor Powers."
Sailor Uranus nodded. "You do." She said. "But what you do not have, are our Sailor Stars."
"Sailor Stars?" Wufei said. "Onna, explain yourself."
Uranus' hand fisted instantly, but Neptune raised hers from behind Quatre. "Calm yourself Ruka." She said softly. "Our Sailor Stars are pieces of our Soul, as the Ginshinzou is a piece of Usagi's. When she landed, they split from the crystal upon impact."
"She was unable to sense them due to her unwillingness to accept our deaths. But Queen Selenity has given us the power to bring them to you." Mamoru's voice was strong.
"But I thought Usagi said Chaos had a hold of Sailor Pluto's Star?" Hilde said, her eyes roaming over the figures of the past with interest.
Pluto spoke. "Chaos cannot hold our crystals from us any more than he could hold the wind in his hand. He expects my crystal to stay because I cannot call for it. Clearly this is his folly."
"Chaos No-baka doesn't know what's coming his way." Chibi-Usa smirked, and was chided by her father.
"Such language little love." He said, but he was smiling.
"Shall we girls?" Sailor Jupiter asked, winking. They all nodded, though Sailor Mars and Sailor Uranus rolled an eye at their friends tone.
They raised their hands together, each calling out to their guardian planets. Floating in their palms seconds later, were small gems in their respective colors.
"With these you will receive power far beyond what you have now. You will be able to tap into any attack and ability we carried ourselves. As well as powers not yet seen before our demise. Our eternal birthrights. " Saturn said softly. "Usa-mama is depending on you."
"As are we." Jupiter said.
"Once these powers are ingrained in you, they will be with you for always." Mercury said. "Are you sure you are ready to take them on?"
"You're kidding right?" Duo said, actually managing to look incredulous. "Lay it on me babes."
Wufei rolled his eyes at Duo, which made Mars smirk behind him. "Of course we accept the power. If it helps Usagi."
"No Onna?" Uranus asked with a smirk. "She amazes me to this day. Save our Princess from the clutches of that bakayaro. I fear she is not coping well."
"She will be home with us soon." Hiiro said. His voice was cold, but he spoke strongly.
"That's what I like to hear." Uranus said, the smirk still gracing her face.
"Are we all agreed?" Pluto asked. There was a collective nod. "Lovely. Will you start, Mamoru-sama, Chibi-sama?"
Mamoru nodded. "Planet Earth, your King of long ago calls to you! I ask that you grant your power to Hiiro Yui, to aid the Queen!" His Sailor Star was glowing intensely, as Chibi-Usa spoke. "Hear me great moon, grant this power to Hiiro Yui, so that he may save my Mama and this world!" Her star shone bright pink, and in a flash, they were sucked into Hiiro's chest, above his heart. The sigils of the earth and Moon were bright on his forehead.
The Sailors continued one by one, until the boys all wore the symbols of the planets above their brow. When it was done, Chibi-Usa spoke.
"That is all we have to give, and we run low on the energy Obaa-san used to bring us here. We must go back to the fields of Elysion. Perhaps, one day, we shall see you all there."
"Sayonara, Tsuki No Bushi." Mamoru said, and in a flurry of sparkles, the Senshi and their former King and Princess disappeared.
"Tsuki No Bushi?" Duo said, confused.
"Samurai of The Moon." Hiiro said quietly.
"Hmmm. I like it." Wufei said. Sally smiled softly.
"You would."
"Let's adjourn." Quatre said, "And ready ourselves." They all stood together, and Quatre was filled with a sense of Pride and Hope. With the Universe on their side, and the Senshi of long past rooting them on, they would win this battle. They would win this battle, or all would perish.
...
So the boys have received access to the ultimate power of each Senshi, immediately. Surely this will aid in the coming battle? If you want to find out, you'll have to stay tuned. New chapter up tomorrow! Ja,
