Chapter Three

"Draco, why would you ask him anything like that?" Astoria asked curiously as she set Draco's dinner down on the table in front of him later that evening. Astoria was surprised, but very happy to see that he had come home early that day.

"I was only curious, honey that's all." He said simply as he grabbed a spoon and started to dig into his mashed potatoes.

"Draco, you shouldn't have asked him anything. The war did horrible things to Harry and he's no longer the confident child he once was. He's very shy about his personal life and you should have respected that." She scolded her husband.

"Astoria, I was only curious. I'm not going to report him to The Daily Prophet. Nor am I going to force him into coming out and announcing to the world about his sexuality. Although I am quite curious as to why he is gay at all. He's married to a very attractive woman with three children, isn't he?" He asked.

"He's not gay Draco. He's bisexual. He loves Ginny with all of his heart. And his children." She explained, playing around with her corn.

So Potter is gay after all. He thought to himself as a small smirk fell upon his lips. The smirk didn't go past Astoria's notice.

"Draco, please promise-"

"Astoria, I promise you. I will not force Potter to out himself nor will I ask him about it." He said solemnly as Astoria looked relieved.

Later that night, another owl arrived. Draco opened the window, expecting the owl to fly in towards Astoria, who was sitting in the armchair next to the fireplace, reading a book, particularly A Monster Book of Monsters. Astoria looked up from the book and smiled at Draco's confused face. The owl hooted impatiently, blinking its large brown eyes up at Draco. Only then did Draco realize that the letter was for him, and not his wife. He curiously took the parchment from the owl and gave the owl an owl treat before the owl flew out of the window once more. He looked curiously at the letter, which had seemed to have been folded quickly and ungratefully. Astoria smiled secretly to herself as she knew what the letter held within its contents.

Draco,

I understand that you were only curious as to why I had been secretly owling your wife for months, and I assure you, I respect your marriage and would never do anything to hurt your marriage with her. I guess I should start this letter by explaining why I had started to write to her in secret first before I get any farther into this letter.

I started owling her, because as I'm sure she's told you already, I am having an extremely rough time with Ginny and the kids as of lately. Our marriage is slowly falling apart, day by day. It's nobody's fault really. But I can't help but think of our conversation that we had back in your office a few days ago. I figured by now that you would have told the Daily Prophet, and I can quite honestly say, I'm shocked that you haven't. I guess that Astoria was right in saying that you are indeed, a very changed man.

And I appreciate it. But anyway, Ginny has no idea of my sexuality. Nor do Ron or Hermione. Though, I'm sure Hermione has some suspicions about it. After all, none of my past relationships ever went that well. And some of it, I'm sad to say, was your fault. You were such an arrogant fool when we had been in school together. And when you asked- no begged- for my forgiveness after the war, I was in total shock. I thought you would have known that I had already forgiven you when I had not turned you into the Aurors when they were doing the trials or even before that when I had saved you from the Room of Requirement in Hogwarts.

Draco, we may not be friends, never, but I'm really writing you tonight, just to thank you for keeping my secret from the world, whether it was because Astoria asked you to do so, or it was your own choice, thank you.

Thank you ever so much,

Harry James Potter

Draco looked up at Astoria with his eyebrows slightly furrowed. She was smiling somewhat which made Draco even more confused than ever.

"Did you tell Harry to do this?" He asked, voice cracking slightly as he spoke Potter's first name.

"Not fully. He suggested the whole thing and I just agreed that it was a good idea for him to do it. I'm more surprised that he actually did it, to be honest." She said as she walked over to him. She glanced at the letter, reading it quickly.

"I... I... I don't know how to respond to this... Potter, was never the apologetic type... He was more of an ego than anything. He acted first and then thought later...Why did he send me this?" Draco asked nobody in particular as he slightly shook his head.

"Did you not understand what was in that letter, love?" She asked unsure.

He nodded quickly. "Yes, I did. I'm just confused, that's all. He seemed really angry at me when we were in my office a few days ago. I thought he was regretting his decision to let me free from Azkaban. But I guess he..." Draco let his voice trail away as he looked outside from the window.

"Draco, the past is called the past for a reason, why can't you let go of that? Even Hermione forgave you for the way you were towards her in Hogwarts." She said softly as she walked over to her husband who was looking back and forth between the letter in his hands to the leaves on the trees of the window.

If only you knew the real reason for why I'm so confused right now Astoria. He shook his head as he seemed to come back to reality.

"Astoria, can you invite Ginny and Harry over here for dinner on Friday? And ask them to bring along their children, too, if it's no trouble for them. I want to properly speak to them all, especially Harry." Draco asked.

She nodded and walked off to the owlery. The one thing Draco knew why he loved Astoria (besides her beauty) was the fact that she rarely ever asked questions. He smiled to himself as he made his way up the many flights of stairs to his bedroom.
