Chapter Five
Draco was working on some files in his office Monday morning when Ronald Weasley suddenly burst through his door, huffing as if he had run there. Draco dropped his book in surprise.
"What do you want, Weasley? I'm busy." He asked, bending over to pick the book from the floor.
"You! You're right foul git, you know that?" Ron said coldly.
"What are you on about Weasley? I have work to do, unlike you." Malfoy answered, changing into the sarcastic Malfoy he was supposed to be.
"Why the hell did you feed Harry on Friday? And my sister? What the hell did you do to them?" He nearly was yelling and Draco quickly placed a silencing charm around the office as to keep Kevlar from coming in.
"Ronald, calm down. My wife offered Harry and your sister some dinner, and he came over on his own decision. I did not force neither of them to come over. Now, if you would please step-" Draco cut off as Harry walked into the room. He was incredibly confused at the sight of his best mate and co worker.
"Ron, what are you doing here? You don't work anywhere near this office." Harry stated.
"No worries, Potter. He was just about to leave." Draco answered coldly as he gave Ron a cold stare.
Ron huffed and promptly left the room as he slammed the door shut behind him. Draco clenched his fists.
"What did Ron want?" Harry asked.
"He was under the impression that I forced you to eat dinner at my house the other night and wanted an explanation. I guess he thinks that I-" Draco stopped as Harry raised a hand.
"He will get over it, Draco. Don't worry about him. He's not talking to me, either. Well he was barely talking to me to begin with. But, it's okay. Stop fretting over it." Harry said as he placed the finished files onto Draco's desk.
"Do you regret coming over my house this weekend?" Draco had to ask.
Harry shook his head. "Ginny was quite happy about seeing your wife. And I was happy being with your family. Scorpius is so adorable. He looks exactly like you when you were his age."
"So, are you implying that I looked cute in Hogwarts?" Draco asked.
Harry blushed as he realized what he had said.
"Potter, really. I meant nothing by it. If you like me, it wouldn't be surprising at all. A lot of people seem to find me attractive." Draco said smugly.
"Draco, would you mind going to lunch with me later in my office?" Harry asked nervously.
Draco slowly felt a smile come on his face and he nodded.
Around lunchtime that day, Draco found himself being entertained by Harry's muggle contraptions that he had placed along the back end of his office. It seemed to be larger than his office, Draco noticed, but it wasn't as nearly as comforting.
"And what is this thing?" Draco asked, pointing to a piece of plastic.
"That, is a muggle camera. It takes pictures that will not move." Harry answered, smiling at the delighted man in his office.
He raised an eyebrow as Draco took the camera away from the shelf and pointed it at him. He pressed the big button at the top and smiled as a white flash momentarily filled the room. Harry smiled.
"Draco, what are you doing?" Harry asked, his eyes twinkling from the sudden flash of white.
"Testing it out." Draco answered, smiling slightly.
"You're acting like a kid at the candy store." Harry said amused.
"Well, I never seen these objects before until now." He said sheepishly.
Harry had to laugh. Draco smiled at the pleasant sound that had come from the man.
"What is this thing? This doesn't look like a chess board." Draco asked again, this time pointing to a checkerboard with black and red circles placed on it.
"It's a game called 'checkers'. It's sort of like chess, except not as logical." Harry explained, taking the board and placing it on his desk. He cleared most of the things away from his desk and told Draco to sit in front of him. Draco did as he was told.
"Potter, aren't we supposed to be working?" Draco asked as he watched Harry set the red and black pieces on opposite ends of the board, much like in chess.
"It's not as if Kingsley comes around and checks on me. He knows how I can be with my work. I do it when I want. He doesn't mind, as long as I get it done. And considering he knows how much I help you out, he's perfectly fine with me goofing off every so often." He said as he placed the last piece on the board. "Which color do you want to be?" He asked, looking up at Draco.
"Black." He said, refusing to be red for it was a Gyrffindor color.
Harry smiled and grabbed a piece off the board and moved it to a different spot.
"When your piece gets one space around mine, you can jump it to capture it. Whoever captures the last piece of the opponent, wins." He explained.
The game went on for almost an hour before Draco seemed to win. Harry smiled at him. "I want a rematch tomorrow, Draco." He was smiling as the familiar smirk that had crept onto Draco's features as he began to realise that he was going to win the game.
"Same time tomorrow, Potter?" He suggested as he walked to the door.
Harry nodded with a smile on his face.
