I thought I had you figured out

Can't breathe whenever you're gone

Can't turn back now, I'm haunted

Stood there and watched you walk away

From everything we had

But I still mean every word I said to you

Chapter 4: How Things Used To Be

Caitlyn ran into the dance studio, waving a paper around in excitement. Mary stopped her exercising to look at Caitlyn. She tilted her head in confusion, taking the paper from her dance partner. It was a flyer talking about a dance competition being held next month. The prize was a dinner out in town at the most exclusive restaurant in town.

"Why are you handing me this?" Mary sighed, although she already knew the answer to her own question.

"We have to enter it! Please?" Caitlyn begged.

Mary couldn't understand why Caitlyn wanted this so badly.

"I don't know…" Mary mumbled, she had never actually performed on stage.

Everyone knew she was a great dancer but Mary had only ever really performed when she was younger.

"Please?" Caitlyn asked again, resorting to puckering up her lip into a very cute pout.

"Oh no, not the puppy dog look." Mary exclaimed, trying to look away.

"Maryyy." Caitlyn whined.

"Fine. Ill enter the contest with you okay?" Mary sighed, finally giving in.

Caitlyn squealed in excitement, kissing Mary on the cheek. Mary chuckled and turned to look Caitlyn in the eyes, her breath catching in her throat as she realized how close their faces were. Mary cleared her throat and took a step back.

"If we're going to enter this contest then we better start figuring out a dance routine." Mary said quickly.

Alex, Faith, Mary. Grace and Carter were all in their family living room later that day, arguing on what to watch as usual. Justin was down working in the subshop along with their younger brother Max. Just then a knock came at the door.

"It's open!" Alex shouted as Nate opened the door followed by the rest of the gang.

It was a lazy day in Waverly so the gang had decided to have a sleepover at the Russo's. Carter got up and popped in a horror movie since none of them could agree on the movie. Grace disappeared and a few minutes later reappeared with popcorn. Carter ended up sitting in the middle of Nate and Rosie on the couch. Sonny sat next to Rosie and Grace took her seat next to Sonny. Faith sat down on the carpet with Mitchie laying in her lap. Alex spread herself out on the carpet next to them. Caitlyn and Mary sat on one of the beanbags. Shane and Miley sat in the loveseat next to the couch. Kevin sat on the other beanbag.

Halfway through the movie, Alex looked up at the sound of whimpers coming from behind her. Sonny was trembling and Grace had her arm around the girl, comforting her. Alex then looked away, catching Mitchies eyes. She and Mitchie used to be bestfriends until Alex went through a rough period, dealing with a rough breakup. Alex had been in an abusive relationship with a guy who had thankfully moved away due to the fact that his dad got offered a job that he couldn't turn down. When the relationship had finally ended, Alex was a wreck. Mitchie had stuck with Alex through all of that but once Alex had finally gotten herself together, they weren't as close as they used to be. Alex hung out a lot more with Caitlyn or she would keep to herself, burying herself in her art. Faith and Mitchie had been bestfriends before but she and Faith got closer over time because Mitchie needed someone to turn to too. Mitchie was getting into some pretty bad stuff while Alex wasn't herself. It affected her and she turned to drugs and mindless sex. It wasn't the best coping mechanism but it was how she coped. Alex was about to say something but just then she felt two arms wrap around her waist. Alex looked up to see Sonny grabbing onto her.

"I don't feel good." Sonny mumbled into Alexs ear.

Alex wriggled uncomfortably out of Sonnys grasp. She thought Sonny was absolutely adorable and she didn't mind taking care of the pretty girl but Mitchie was watching so Alex didn't want to give the wrong impression. Alex took Sonnys hand in hers, causing the girl to blush before she led her up to her room. She could feel Mitchie staring at them as they left. Mitchie probably thought something was going on with them but really Alex was only taking care of Sonny due to the fact that Alex was the only one who knew Sonny was pregnant,

"You need to tell your mom." Alex murmured, as she let Sonny lay on her bed.

"I cant." Sonny whispered, looking pale as she closed her eyes.

Alex handed her a glass of water and a pill for nausea.

"Youre going to have to. I can help you but youre going to need your familys support too and telling your mom is a good way to start." Alex replied.

"Okay…" Sonny sighed, not up for much arguing.

She and Alex had gotten closer. Sonny was no longer as shy as she used to be around Alex. Alex still could get to the girl and Sonny was still head over heels for her but now she was finally getting the attention she craved from the younger girl. Maybe a pregnancy was not the kind of attention she hoped for but Sonny trusted Alex. Alex was turning out to be a great help with the pregnancy and it gave Sonny a chance to spend time with the usually very secretive girl. After a moment Alex realized that Sonny had fallen asleep so she quietly crept out of the room. Alex was about to go join the others when she heard singing out on the balcony. The singing was painfully familiar. Alex quietly made her way out onto the balcony where she found Mitchie. Mitchie turned to face her, her brown eyes betraying no emotion.

"Shouldn't you be with Sonny?" Mitchie asked bitterly.

"Sonny didn't feel good so I let her sleep on my bed. You know…Its been a while since Ive heard you sing." Alex mumbled.

"Yeah well..you haven't been around much." Mitchie replied quietly.

"Yeah…I know." Alex sighed, looking away, shivering slightly.

"Lets get inside. Its cold out here." Mitchie murmured, her protective instinct kicking in.

The two girls made their way inside. Alex looked around. Most of her friends had passed out due to the fact that the movie was done. The only two that were awake were Shane and Miley who were sitting in a corner watching funny videos on Shanes laptop. Mitchie and Alex made their way to an empty space in the room. Alex pulled out blankets and pillows.

"You can share the blankets with me. I don't bite." Alex offered, with a small smirk.

Mitchie couldn't help but smile. "Ill take you up on that offer kiddo."

Kiddo and Princess were two of the nicknames Mitchie used to call Alex all the time. Mitchie used to be like Alex's protector even though the independent girl didn't need protecting. Mitchie used to be the only one Alex would let take care of her. Alex may appear to be selfish but she was anything but selfish. She took care of people without anyone realizing it. She looked after her friends. Mitchie laid down beside the pretty girl. Alex turned to face her, a smirk still playing on her lips, letting their faces get really close. Another thing Alex loved to do was play games.

"Told you I don't bite." Alex smirked, before turning around.

Mitchie wasn't like Sonny. Mitchie didn't fall into Alexs little traps. She instread played the game with her.

"Oh but I do." Mitchie whispered softly into the girls ear, causing her to shiver as Mitchie pulled away.

Mitchie chuckled, closing her eyes in content. She and Alex used to play little games like this with eachother all the time. Maybe things were finally getting back to the way they used to be.
